Have some questions. Why plugin? You can do this directly in Customize, Site Identity.
WP suggests minimum 512 x 512 pxl, which makes no sense. You use 32 x 32 which makes sense for a tiny image of a couple of millimeters. So which way is best? I asked here at WA and did not get any proper answer.
How to make it transparent? For some reasons it does not work at my side.

A lot of people like using plugins as it is simple. I have never tried doing it your way before. There are many ways to do everything in Wordpress. This is just one of them.
Many people install everything through FTP, I only use it when I have to as I am not a big fan. I find plugins are an easy shortcut for many things, even for people with little to no experience.
Maybe you should do a training on how to do it the other way when you figure it out ;-)
