Hi and welcome to another edition of Shawn's Tutorials!

Today I want to walk you through how to change a title of a post or page in Wordpress. This will be a short tutorial that is easy to follow.

Before we start first lets take a look some reasons for changing a title of a post or page.

One reason to change the title is several members have tried to use keyword phrases that do not make sense for titles. For instance " Help Payday Loan Debt" will rank but not on it's own so I would change it to "Help WITH Payday Loan Debt"

Adding the WITH makes it read right.

Usually a proper keyword phrase will also rank the improper phrases, so you can kill two birds with one stone by using the proper one, and you will be Google friendly. Google likes the proper phrases and looks down on ones that do not read right, thus you are actually hurting your ranking by trying to use them.

Another reason would be if you made a mistake in the spelling or wording of a title. It might seem you just correct the title and be done with it, but you must do it properly in order to have it display correctly, as you will see in this tutorial.

These are just a couple reasons and there are more, if you want to add any of them do so in the comments below.

As always check your keyword research when changing a title and make sure you are using a good phrase or keyword.

Ready to see how it is done?

Lets get on with it :)

Yep as Nathaniell says, we could use the way to change the 404 error message. Thanks!
But yes I agree with you. I have used broken fragmented keywords trying to get traction that way and it has not worked. Might as well make the key word phrase read right. You then have a chance of getting some traffic. Even if it is not the 6000 monthly you see with the broken fragment key word phrase.
Thanks!

And you may even rank that broken one with the proper one!

I edited the last page and added the training for the 404 error message there. Craig has a good video on that. :)

I'll just add that if any links are pointing to the old post, ie social media, links from other websites, or links from your own blogs, they will now return a 404 error to the old post and need to be updated.
