In this training, I am going to walk you through the process of purchasing a domain through the SiteDomains platform here at Wealthy Affiliate.

As you build out your website and building out your respective businesses online, having your own domain name will become a very important aspect of your business.

This video will walk you through the process from searching and finding your domain, to adding your payment details, to verifying your domain name.

There are several advantages to using SiteDomains over other domain registrars and these include:
  • Email Accounts
  • Instant DNS
  • WhoIs Privacy
  • Domain Security
  • Price Protection
  • No Upsells!

To purchase your domain names, you can do so directly within the SiteDomains platform using the following link:

I own my domain, I purchased it the first day. Are there still advantages to moving the site or is it okay to leave the site where it is under WA? If I move the site, won't I have to purchase hosting as well? All answers appreciated.

Thank you.

I would leave the site right here at Wealthy Affiliate. I bought my URL like you did and it is being hosted right here. If you move the site you will need to purchase hosting as well. The SiteRubix Site Manager and dashboard is so easy to use I would not want to move it. It is working out just great here.

Thank you Darleen. I just wondered if I have to install another theme (I have one, but...) and then transfer, but I'd rather leave it right where it is and just customize the existing theme with CSS. I just wondered if there is a big SEO advantage to hosting it separately.

There is no benefit to moving your website.

The Managed Wordpress hosting you have access to here at WA is matched by very few hosts in the industry in terms of quality, security, speed, and support. It definitely is not a budget host like the other shared hosting companies out there. The hosting you get here at WA is comparable to $250 per MONTH hosting packages.

You can learn more about it here:

http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/hosting/

You can host up to 25 of your own domains and 25 free .siterubix.com websites on your Premium hosting platform here at WA.

There are many themes to choose from here at Wealthy Affiliate as a Premium member especially and you can still customize with CSS if you want to. Also the websites here come with All In One SEO Pack, so SEO is great.

Thanks Loes. Is domain compulsory? Does it mean that if we build a website we must have a domain name? Can several websites belong to 1 domain name? I know that by having a domain it is unique to everyone and we can own our domain. Also, once we set up our websites, apply domain name and adsense, how do we receive our revenue? the advertisers will transfer to the account we give? sorry, just started this WA and super new, when going thru the lessons a lot of questions just popped up in my mind. Thanks in advance whoever that can solve my queries.

You eventually want a domain, but you can absolutely start with a free website. A domain is something that you will own and is an asset you will be building out moving forward.

You want ONE website per domain though. You don't want to have a bunch of niches or websites all connected to one domain.

I have spent some time breaking down the process in the most simplistic way possible. Success online is at the core a 4 step process and I have broken them down within this video: Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose your niche
Step 2: Build your website/content
Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)
Step 4: Monetize your traffic (the make money part, through affiliate programs, etc!)

This applies in absolutely every niche and as you work through the training here at WA, you are going to be walked through this exact process. This is fundamental for ANY success online.

If you have any further questions let me know Pk. :)

can we set up our website at wordpress first and when everything is done then buy our domain name? any difference? as it will take quite a while to set up wordpress. thx

Yes, you can start with a siterubix domain name, and transfer anytime to your own domain name. Quite sensible to take some time to find yourself the perfect domain name.

Hi Kyle, I just purchased my domain name :)
Where is the 'Move' button to replace it with the .siterubix.com domain? I am left on the main page where you do a search for domain names. Thanks

Hi Kyle...Update on finding the 'move' button to switch domain names.
I went back to my notes remembering that 'move' button and found it in Lesson #4 from the 'Get started Course' :) It pays to take notes from those videos.
I'm happy to own my own domain name!

WA would not take my debit card for my premium membership, I had to use Pay Pal. Site domains wouldn't take either my debit card or Pay Pal. I had to use a e-check. My bank shows that the e-check has been paid. My domain name is still in my cart at Site Domains. What should I do now?

My first year domain purchase will be credit card. When I get a Paypal account, would I be able to change my payments over to Paypal?
Reply
eddieviray Premium
I've not yet experienced this, but it's up to you. If you find it beneficial to use Paypal, then do it. Either of the 2 is okay, but for convenience and for security reasons, I think, Paypal is the best option to make payments because your personal identification and other data will not be divulge to anyone. You have to be very careful though because there are others there who will use paypal asking for your informations, when in fact, they will use it for their self interest.

I bought my domain through NameCheap, and hosted here at WA, when it's time to renew, can I just buy it again through SiteDomains so I don't have to have multiple sites to keep track of? If so, what is the process of doing so?
Reply
Kyle Premium
You can transfer your domains over here at WA. Also, you can purchase any domain that you need going forward through the SiteDomains platform.

Hi,

I'm trying to park a domain I just bought, and need to verify it for the parking service (Sedo.)

How can I do this with privacy still active, and who is the domain registrar when I buy through Site Domains?

Thanks!
Reply
Kyle Premium
The domain registrar is us if you are parking a domain. What is your benefit of "parking" a domain, I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish here? Just so you know, parked domains do not make money and if you are just going to sit on domains there is not much benefit at all in parking it.
Reply
RKingsley Premium
Good to know, thanks Kyle.

This is part of a wider experiment in domain flipping, project creation and short term trading. I'll be parking this domain while offering it for sale at a tiny profit, I'll also be trying out startup websites and a few other things whilst my niche site remains my main focus.

So far it's a lot of work setting up, so the $10 profit I'm aiming for is not extremely worthwhile, but it's still a very educational experiment.
Reply
Kyle Premium
There should be no need to park it, there is no benefit. Why don't you through a WP site on it and it might actually increase the value of the site. Buy this domain w/ wordpress website on it!
Reply
RKingsley Premium
Yeah, since your last reply, that's the way I'm leaning.

I'm building a framework for it now, but I'm getting too into the idea. It's probably going to end up being my second niche site!

Hi Kyle,
I'm trying to buy a domain name with SiteDomains but I keep on getting the message "Oh no, something went wrong with your order and we were not able to process payment. Please try your payment again by entering your details below." I don't know what to do.

I recommend if you are having issues buying a domain, that you buy credits and use those credits to purchase a domain name.

This will likely solve your issues here Naume. :)

Hi Kyle,

So there's a domain name that I'd like to buy, but it's currently registered by someone else...

Based on WHOIS the registrar is ENOM, INC and it's reseller is NAMECHEAP .COM.

It doesn't look like anyone is going to renew it because if I visit the web address there's only a Host Gator suspended page.

So I'm assuming the person has already stopped paying for hosting and will not be paying to renew the domain.

What do I need to do to ensure I become the next owner of the domain name?

Do I have to wait until it expires?

Thank you!
Reply
Kyle Premium
You never know if they are going to renew it or not, I would not hold your breath on a domain and simply look around and find one that is available. People could renew this for the next 10 years, you have no idea by looking at their domain data.

You have to basically pay every year to go on a watch list and that doesn't even guarantee you will be the domain owner, they could sell it or they could hold it forever. Move on and find a domain that is available.

Any plans on developing affiliate links and banners for SiteDomains. I currently use and advertise Namecheap. I wouldn't mind having a ready made affiliate banner for SiteDomains. Do you think it would be possible to have a search widget similar to the one we have for SiteRubix?
Cheers

Thank you for that wonderful tutorial. Is Domain name the same as web blog?
Reply
vic62 Premium
The Domain name is the URL, which is where people will locate your website. EG Wealthy Affiliate's Domain Name or URL is http://wealthaffiliate.com
Once you have a domain name ( which you can purchase here at WA or you can use a siterubix domain for free) you will start to build your webiste or blog/

Hi Kyle, does this sitedomains provision cost money? And how much if so? And does it also mean that I won't have to go to namecheap?
Reply
vic62 Premium
HI, Yes - if you wanted to buy your own domain - it would be at a cost. At WA a domian name would cost you $13.99 yearly but this includes who.is privacy, email, backups, support and as a premium member you also get hosting.
The short video will give you all the details as well as guide you if you wanted to make your purchase. Here's a copy of the link I hope this helps.

Depending on the domain extension, the price will vary. You can learn more about the domain platform here:

http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/domains

This will really give you a good idea of some things we are doing that other domain registrars are not and the true value in terms of using SiteDomains.

I absolutely love it! I've been putting off purchasing my own domain because I was so confused with the whole DNS process. I am not a technical person at all. Sometimes I wish I were a nerd so that some things can come naturally, but nope lol. Anyway I love this process. It is so simple, and I am so excited to start building my brand.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, that is our ongoing goal. To take technology completely out of the business creation process through our own "complex" and sophisticated developments. I feel as though we are just getting started, there is so much that we will have to left to accomplish.

Yeah, DNS was a real headache for folks and not just that, the waiting game you have to play with other domain registrars after you purchase the domain name (up to 24 hours before the DNS resolves).

When you buy a domain through SiteDomains it is literally ready to build a website on in a matter of seconds!
