I'm following Kyle's Online Certification Training and just got to the part where we monetize our sites with Google Adsense.

Course 3, Lesson 7: Getting Paid for Ads on Your Site

Signing up for Google Adsense was simple but being very un-techy I couldn't work out where to add the verification code. The instruction was as follows:

Eek! Adding HTML code is definitely not my forte. But I couldn't find any training on it so I gave it a shot.

How NOT to add the code to your WordPress site:

Took a deep breath and logged into my Wordpress Back Office.

Clicked on Appearance - Editor - Theme Header (header.php file), found the spot to place the code and clicked update file.

Another deep breath and Fingers crossed that I hadn't disturbed the peace of my back-end HTML code rendering my site useless.

Fortunately, all that happened was this email arrived in my inbox today:

Hi, Lauren, you have created a nice step-by-step training, perfect for beginners' understanding!

I am trying to follow it, I have the Insert Headers and Footers plugin installed and activated, but I don't see the Configure button, so I am lost on this step.

Any suggestions, how I can move forward?

Hey Natalia, for adsense, it's best to use a plugin like Ads Inserter:

Hi, Grace, I have managed to solve the issue with Insert Headers and Footers Plugin, but I will bookmark these training as well for further consulting.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!

Okay, that's cool. The Ads Inserter plugin can be used for just text you want on every page as well, not just ad codes, so it's multipurpose.

Can I now change the plugin if I have already checked the Adsense box, notifying them that I have pasted the code into my website?

Thank you Lauren! I also didn`t find any tutorial about that. So I am so happy that YOU wrote this tutorial here. I made that now and wait for google adsens replay...is it ready now or what? Hope everything went right :)

Why is it you overrule the request from Amazon? To place it behind the /head? Just curious

Hi Loes, because when I did that it didn't work. Adsense didn't pick up that I had added the code.

And beneath the head tag it did pick you up, thanks, nice to know

Oops! Sorry Loes, I cannot verify that just yet. My sincere apologies, I have jumped the gun by adding this training before I could verify that these methods actually work. However, I am testing both methods. Option 1 on Inspiring Mompreneurs and Option 2 on Happy Human Pacifier, so should be able to confirm in 3 days.

Great post, but I can't access editor on here. WA restricts me to do so and It's been over a week since AdSense has responded to me so I don't know if they are going to approve my site or not. How did you manage to access editor?

Hi Dawn, the beauty of the plugin is there's no need to access editor at all. I found that method way simpler and less scary because you're not messing around with code.
I had no problem accessing the editor on my WA site. As far as I know, WA allows access to editor.
Perhaps the issue is your theme?
Have you asked Site Support to check why your editor is not working?

Thanks for the quick reply! I just thought it was standard saying we are restricted to it because people can really mess up their site. I know a bit of HTML and have edited PHP files outside of WA so I would like access to editor. I will get in touch with support. Thanks!
