What is a Landing Page?

(Welcome to my very first tutorial!)

Typically a landing page is any page that link to from another website and show to visitors....

This "can" be your normal Home page.

But, additionally, you can have a separate landing page to sell an item OR request a signup for your newsletter.

When a signup is requested on a landing page, it's synonymous with the term:

Squeeze Page

I guess that came about because you're trying to "squeeze" someone for information.

:-)

A typical landing page should be short and sweet and have a definite "Call to Action".

The landing page or Squeeze page can be and should be very simple....

It can ask for email address only, or email address, first name and last name (typically).

Really...man that was good info. Thanks.
But I'm still alittle confused at the moment.

So my question is:
Are there any free landing page builders that will allow what you've mentioned?

Because some companies are charging quite a bit for a subscription per month...is there any way around this?

One website I just checked are starting from $25 per month for some features, then its $48 per month for more, then $199 a month.
All being billed annually.

Is there any recommendation as to which company to use?
Which company are you using?
Will a wordpress plugin have all the features needed?
Or will we just have to go and purchase this software?

Sorry...man...I know it was more than one question.

there are free plugins that allow you to create these pages - there are also themes which have a lnding page template ( no header, footer or sidebar)
i am using elementor which allows you to build a page how you want to - there is a free version of this.
so lots of options.
but yes the paid programs are money for convenience.
their pages have been created and tested for performance - so if you come across some which you like - save them and maybe reconstruct them with a pagebuilder - especially the successful ones.
good luck Mustafa.

Elementor...is a wordpress plugin?
How's it doing for you? Are you converting using this?
Reply
feigner Premium
elementor is a plugin for wordpress.
i am using it to design the style of my site.
i don't have a dedicated landing page at the moment as i don't have a giveaway - need to get on with it.
but the site is getting there - it does take time - so be warned it will take away time from creating articles.

Where is your step by step video? I came up with some pages that are different from your description. You are close but the video is missing.
As a newbie, I need the video. Thank you for giving me an idea of what to do.

This is a member's training and it's not in video format, that is why you don't see a video here.

You have to read this training instead, and there are 5 lessons to go through as you can see you can click on the blue "Next Page" button above the comments on the right to go to the next lesson.

I found it. Click on inbound forms (about half way down on the left hand side just above appearance).
Choose your form and click edit.
Under form name it should say: Redirect URL.
simply entre the URL you want them to be taken to and hit save.
Don't forget to test. Hope this helps.

I can't figure out how to get the landing page I have created to be my home page on WP. Anyone able to tell me how please?
Reply
Arashehf Premium
You have to choose a static front page and choose that page as the front page. You can do that from Settings - reading in the dashboard.
Or in theme settings - customize (usually)

Hope that helps :)
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Once you have the page you want as your landing page (static page) go to the Dashboard, Settings, and then Reading.

There you will find Front page displays – click on static page
Then go to the Front page and select the page you have created.

Now your post blogs won’t show on the home page so firstly create a page called Blogs (or other name you want). Then go back to Settings, Reading, go to Posts page and select blogs.

I did these in two steps, so don’t know if doing it in one works but try it. If not then go back and do in in two steps.

Hit Save Changes

Go to Appearance, Menus and add your post blog page and place it at the top. Then Update.

Note your site will still show Home (at least mine did) but if you click on it you only get the landing page.

If you have trouble go and watch Jay’s Live Video Classes, Case Study Week 3 of 5. He shows you how to do this (plus many other things).

If you look at Jay's Live Video aired this past week (15 or 16 April), called Week 3 of 5, he goes through a lot of this stuff and makes it look very easy. He is building a site so lots of the stuff will be relevant to anyone. If you haven't attended any of these live classes just click on the Live Video under Training just to the left of here.

Hi PJ,
This is a very helpful tutorial and I appreciate you creating it. However, I was wondering why you wouldn't just use the landing page feature offered through your email marketing account like Getresponse, mailchimp, ect....instead of installing an additional plugin which could slow down your site (if you have to many)
Reply
PjGermain Premium
You CAN certainly, Sheila! But, I wanted to kinda show a hybrid and it appears most WA members don't use a paid service like GetResponse. Also, the plugin seems to have differing features that the WordPress MailChimp plugin. But, great point! Test both and see which one you prefer! Thanks!

You can take the HTML elements (copy the HTML source code) and go into WordPress and switch to "Text" view (which is actually html) and paste it in there.

Depending on your theme and CSS (style sheets) you'll likely need to tweak a bit. But, it is possible.

Looks great Pj. I find this concept hard, in that to my way of thinking if I was asked for details when I first arrived on a page, my first reaction would be to back out and go elsewhere. I am assuming you have tested with and without and found it to be worthwhile.
Reply
PjGermain Premium
Indeed it is. When you are able to get someone's information and send them more over time, it can be huge. Being able to communicate with them of course, gives you the ability to pitch sales every so often..... drastically increasing the likelyhood of getting them off the fence to make a purchase of some kind.
