Hi I have been trying to find an answer to my problem which is how to change the background color on the Header of the heirs theme and even Support has not been able to help? This is the problem I am having? I have tried filling the whole header with my logo but get this?

Hey Ann,

From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize > Header Image
That being said, I installed the Hiero theme on my test website and saw that this option is not available for your chosen theme.

To view all themes that support custom headers, go to Appearance > Theme and click on the Add New button. Then click on Feature Filter and check mark the Custom Header box.

Hope you find this helpful.

Background colors rarely affect the conversions of your website in significant ways, especially in the beginning.

The customization of this header will be done through Appearance settings, or you'll have to change the code.

Hi my sponsor. I actually figured out how to change the colour via the inspect stuff. But I couldn't save it!

Ran across your training this evening and found it very helpful.

I do have a couple of problems though. First - after inserting my custom header - when the site is viewed - the "auto header" wit the site name is still there. How do I remove that?

Second, I don't have any quality photo/image creating or editing software. I used MS PowerPoint to create the custom header. I made the text white and I filled the background black...but.. when the site is viewed the text comes out a shade of blue and the background field of the image is white.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Joel

Joel, I don't know if this will help but take a look at Jay's Live Video Class, Hello Canva, 23 Sept 2017. If it doesn't it will still give you some good ideas.

The Hiero theme is no longer supported in Wordpress unfortunately. What theme are you using?

I am using the Hiero theme pretty much as a default. I'm not completely satisfied with it though. I would like to change to another theme but there are so many it is hard to know which to choose.

I had another niche site that I originally started out with when I first joined WA. I had gotten to Level 2 lesson 2 and decided to change the theme and it totally jacked up the entire site.

Do you have any suggestions on another theme? Maybe something you have worked with a good bit and are comfortable using. Also, are there any particular pitfalls or IED's I need to look out for?

Thanks for the help.

What I'm saying is that it's not available at all in Wordpress. How are you even using it?

It was in the library of themes when I was going back through the training. In the training Kyle stated that he used it because of the ease of use etc. I really wanted to use another theme but like I said there are so many that after spending too much time trying to decide, I used it by default. Also I chose it because of Kyle mentioning it in the training and I felt like it would be a good idea to use what he was using as a demonstration in the training - easier to follow along.

The link to my site is https://diabetes-infoandsupport.com/ - I hope that you and I are talking about the same theme.

Thanks again for the input.

Hmm. Interesting. Well I'm a little miffed because I had been using Hiero for almost 3 years and then last week, all of a sudden, it went missing from the theme library inside wordpress. I had to transfer all my stuff over to a new theme, as it has not been updated in over 2 years. I'm not sure why you're still able to use it, but to be safe I would go ahead and switch over to something like Publishable Mag. It's a very similar theme to Hiero, but a little easier to use and you can get your logo in the header with way less headache. If you would like me to do a small tutorial on it I will.

I'm looking at other theme options as I write. My internet connection really sucks so it is slowly loading the 2,500 + options. When I first went to the "Themes" page and selected popular, after scrolling down a little I saw a theme with the perfect layout - truly what i was looking for. It was loading so slow that I did a refresh and it scrambled the order in which the themes are presented and I can't find that specific theme.

Once I find the theme I want do you have any suggestions on how to make a smooth problem free transfer? When I first started with WA back in Feb I built a site and decided to change themes and after I did the transfer I ended up with a website architectural mess. Would love to avoid that situation.

Publishable Mag looks good. It is a different layout than the other theme I mentioned but I kinda like it.

Sadly there's no quick fix for that. Wordpress does make most of the process fairly pain free though. For example: Because I used Publishable mag, and it was so similar to Hiero, all I really had to do was set up the menu with one click inside the Appearance panel. That took care of the backbone of the site, and thankfully so. I have over 300 posts and 62 pages! Lol. I was able to restore it looking exactly like it did in Hiero.

For the rest of your site, you'll have to do it manually. For instance, I had to replace all my images by hand which was a pain, get all the plugins I had, fix the logo in the header, edit the footer, and just generally do some cleanup. If you really buckle down, the entire process should only take around 2-3 days. Because my site was completely blank due to the Hiero debacle, I missed out on a few hours of traffic. No big deal in the long run I suppose.

I don't know how big your blog is, so your time frame may vary.

I did change over to Publishable Mag - really like the layout. Still having issues with importing my custom header though. I did not add the header via the modified code as your training suggested. I used the dashboard "customize" - and used the "Import Header" field.

I had mixed results. The first time I tried I had the same issues as I did w/Hiero - it turned the background color to white and the text to sky blue. I deleted that from the site and even went back to the file and recreated it. I then imported the new file (as same as the old file) and this time it brought the file in exactly as I wanted -- BUT..this time it displayed a duplicate!??? In other words it showed the custom header twice side by side.

I'm now going to try your method of modifying the code - really hope that works cause this is getting old. I have been trying to get a custom header since about 4 PM yesterday. I worked on it until 2:46 this morning.

You made the same mistake I did. First off though, how did you create your logo? You want it to be a vector file with a transparent background. This keeps things clean and simple so there's no issue when importing. Do you have Adobe illustrator? Send me a copy of your logo so I can take a look.

But yeah, I did the same thing as you at first. Don't use the import header tab. Instead go to Apperance > Customize > Site Identity. Then upload your logo!

But make sure it's very big. At first I used too small of one and it came out looking blurry. I don't know what I was thinking (as I'm a designer) lol, and resized it in illustrator to 2000x2000px. It looks fantastic now, and is very crisp and clear.

The reason it's so important to have a PNG file with transparent background is that it will naturally blend in with the color of the header. The last thing you want is like white on black or something crazy

I don't have the Adobe program. I used PowerPoint to create the image and I then imported it into Paint and saved it as a PNG file.

I just inserted the code and the file path - It shows up just as it should as far as position but it looks a bit fuzzy and does not completely fill the "Header" space. Also the color of the background in the custom header is a bit darker than that of the site default. I'll be glad to send you the file - I don't have any worthwhile imaging/photo , graphics program. I have a very old version of an Adobe program that was great but I can't find the disk.
How do I send you the file.

Once again I appreciate the help - I know this is taking up a lot of your time so feel free to opt out any time.

Hey Stu I found this thread in google when looking into Hiero updates and I'm wondering about this comment of yours as the theme did receive updates after this and was being used by Kyle in the 2018 training -Labman had a post last month about it not having been updated yet again but if it came back last time maybe it will come back this time?

I could not personally ever get mine to update and in fact had to call on tech support to rescue my site from the abyss. So no, I do not recommend it but apparently it still works? This doesn't make any sense to me and kind of actually pisses me off since I went through hell and high water to revive my site a few months back.

Awesome Training. Just what I was looking for. I actually found this when I googled the question.

I was able to make a custom header in record time.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this very useful and easy to understand training.

Well done my friend!
