Let’s cover the WHY first...

The old version of Google Search Console and the “Fetch as Google” tool will no longer be available after March 2019.

If you’re familiar with the Google Search Console, then you may be accustomed to the “old version,” which included a “crawl” feature with a tool known as “Fetch as Google.”

The new version of Google Search Console has a different dashboard, with quite a different sidebar menu.

As the process of creating and releasing the new version of Search Console continues, many people are reverting back to the old version to regain access to the previous tools.

However, many of these tools are being updated or replaced.

If you’re wondering why there is no menu selection for “Fetch as Google” on the new version, it’s because the tool has been replaced with the “URL Inspection Tool.”

In the image above, you can see the new Dashboard, and I've used the Help box to display the transition message.

So, HOW do you use the new URL Inspection Tool?

Let’s find out…

Thanks for this tutorial Cris. I often have issues with sitemaps and the new search console was driving me up a wall.

Hey Cris,
After typing in my full URL of a post into inspection tool it came back not found, but I don't see a request indexing button. Am I doing something wrong here on this new inspection tool bar?

Hi,
When it returns the message "URL not found," look to the right of the message box. There will be a rectangle box link that says "Request Indexing." Click it, and a new message will tell you if it is able to be indexed, or if there is an error. If you don't see it, take a screenshot of what you do see, and PM me. Or if you receive an error, do the same. I will help.

Thank you - I needed this training.

I've been fetching and indexing via the old version of Google Console, and I know it's time to acquaint myself with the new version.

Your explanations and images were easily understood, and took away my trepidation!

You have made it easier! In fact, having just published a new post, I used the URL inspection/index request feature in the new version a few minutes ago ... 'worked just like you explained! :)
