One of the drawbacks to using Gutenberg is that it may break old posts when you edit them. One of my posts made extensive use of jump links and anchor text. And after editing it using Gutenberg the jump links no longer worked. Needless to say I was not happy.

Then I discovered that I could use the Classic Editor plugin in conjunction with Gutenberg.

It's not a matter of choosing one or the other, you can use both together!

This video will show you how you can make Gutenberg and the Classic Editor plugin work hand in hand.

Update December 10th, 2018

The latest update to the Classic Editor plugin adds a new option as well as streamlining the original option.

You can choose the default editor for all users and you can choose whether or not to allow users to switch editors. Consider the implications before making your choices.

I don't have the option to use both Gutenberg and Classic Editor, I can use only one of them at the same time. Anyone know how I can enable both editors, like Marion is showing in this tutorial ?

Check out her post under the video - under the heading of "Update December 10th, 2018" you'll see how to do it. You need to make sure the plugin is updated & enable the option as she has shown in her screenshot.

Choose "Yes" to allow users to switch editors in your Settings > Writing. Then you'll see the option to use either Classic or Block Editor when you go to Posts > All Posts and hover your mouse over the title of an existing post.

Ok, got it, now it is working perfectly well ! Thank you so much, Marion !

I still have an issue with highlighting paragraphs in my posts

I have followed this tutorial of Athanasia The problem is that when I change the mode from text editor to visual, the p tag that has to be at the end of paragraph goes up, and the result is that only one phrase of the paragraph is highlighted, not all I wanted it to be

I have tried to highlight in both Gutenberg and Classic editor and the problem is the same. Can you help me please to figure out how to fix this ?

Yes, when you're using the blocks editor (as you should be now) you can add a "Classic" block instead of a Paragraph block. The Classic block allows you to highlight or change the color of bits of text within a paragraph just as you were able to previously.

Thanks, Marion, I will do that right now as I have stumbled a bit with Gutenberg. You are doing us all a great favour by making us take on a challenge we must eventually do but resist because of change.
In appreciation

It was my great fear that Gutenberg would "break" my old posts like installing my new theme did. What a pain in the butt that was sorting through the problems. So, I feel relieved. Thanks a lot.
