Google keeps raising the bar for both search users and site owners on its search platform.

The recent introduction of Google Discover has given users more access to freshly-updated content. Plus users are able to receive different kinds of content that may interest them. And the good thing is that they need not perform any Google search before getting these pieces of content.

Webmasters are also given a platform through which they will be able to increase the reach of their content. By this, there will be greater opportunity to increase their brand awareness and also earn more traffic.

All that is needed is to optimize their content, so Google Discover can find and present the content to search users who find them interesting. But before you can optimize your content for Google Discover, you will need to have the basic knowledge of how it works.

And so we start off our tutorial from the very basics on all that you need to know about it.

Overview of Google Discover

Google Discover, previously known as Google Feeds, refers to the personalized content that Google displays on its mobile home page without any search input.

The major difference between Google search and Google Discover is that the former requires you to type in a search query before getting the content displayed. Google Discover on the other hand does not require search users to type in any search query before Google serves them with the content feeds.

Google's goal is to deliver a rewarding user experience by offering freshly-updated pieces of content that are of interest to its users.

So in essence, content delivered via Google Discover must be both "fresh" and "interesting" content.

In a sense, you could refer to Google Discover as a kind of social feed for Google users. And it is quite evident that users appreciate this feature through the 800+ million users that have signed up for the service.

As a webmaster, how do you take advantage of this platform to increase the reach of your web content? You will first have to create pieces of content that Google finds satisfactory before they are even considered for Google Discover.

Social media networks are based on users' connections and those that they follow while Google Discover is based on Interest that users follow.

Some of the top Google Discover interests are cars, pets, Smartphone, Android, business, music, news, and movies. Users' feeds are based on the different interactions that they have had in the past with Google.

However, if a user does not provide Google with details to match their interests, information from the search history will be used to create the Discover feeds.
