In case you have just come over from my post "Find Your Keyword Density Sweet Spot" or have found my training through the search bar, I hope you will enjoy this training and find it very useful.

These are SEO conclusions I've arrived upon through reading many articles, asking lots of questions and receiving answers from people "in the know", and through results from applied experience.

Who Is This Training For?

This training is for anyone, however it is particularly for those who have tried hard to write great content using the 'ol "tried and true" simpler method as I've previously explained in my post "SEO, The Simple Way" but have struggled with getting higher rankings in the SERPs.

SEO, The Simple Way

There is more than one way to rank high in the SERPs.

Here’s another way how I do it.

So let's start the training.

Introduction: Finding Your Keyword Density Sweet Spot

This training will include the example of finding your keyword density sweet spot using an article of 2000 words, and then leveraging your keyword strategy to your best advantage.

However, you can use the formula I'm about to give you to plan and implement your SEO keyword strategy for any length article.

Keep in mind, I am not counting LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords here.

When you are ready, let’s move on to Lesson 1.

Kaju, where did you get this SEO information from? Kyle and Jay have never taught this. Are you saying to repeat your target keyword several times in your content? There is no exact formula for keyword density. Google said this back in 2011, see video.

https://youtu.be/Rk4qgQdp2UA

Google doesn't need to see your target keyword more than twice to rank you for it. Put it in the title, first paragraph and that's it. Perhaps one more time near the end in a H2 or H3 heading tag if content is 2000 words and up.

Kyle, Jay, myself and others getting page one rankings never use our target keyword more than 3 times. Jay was even asked last night in his 2019 SEO Checklist training if he puts the keyword in the last paragraph and he said No.

Robert, if you use Yoast SEO ( a great plugin),the plugin will correct you if you are using the keyword for too few instances or too many. There is much comprehensive training there as well on this topic.

Not only this, many SEO experts agree it helps to use the target keyword between 0.003 - 1.5%, some even have said up to 1.5% - 3% of your article.(although I believe this is too high). I've used this formula, and have seen my articles reach Page One in the SERPs.

That's also why there is this formula: KD = KA / TW

However to be fair, I've also used the target keyword in my HI heading, the first paragraph, and last paragraph and ranked on Page 1 too. IMO, the reason for this is I wrote great content for those particular articles, and that great content naturally added many LSI keywords.

Notice in this training, I emphasize a most important trait is in #6 that can't be over-emphasized. "Write natural content."

Matt Cutts of Google (in the video link you sent) emphasizes from 1:27 - 1:34 to "...work keywords into your copy in a natural way, not an artificial way."

He also points out from 1:45 - 2:28 in his great "Red Widget" keyword example where he states to "..have your copy read naturally where a person is not going to be annoyed by it." He then recites his "Red Widget example where he includes 4 target keywords in one sentence and tells you this is "not what to do."

However, the examples Matt expresses is exactly NOT what my training is about, and what I am communicating here. In fact, I totally agree with what Matt Cutt's message is, and writing natural content is completely consistent with this training.

And once again, Matt summarizes at 2:57 to "make sure the words on the page read naturally..."

Write natural content.

And once again, this training is in total agreement on that topic with Matt.

There is more than one way to rank. The fact that you are getting high rankings in the SERPs proves that if you write great natural content, you can still rank well with only 2-3 instances of the target keyword, and this is also due to Latent Semantic Indexing. Same reason I ranked high for some of my articles where I did the same.

I've also emphasized this in my recent past post. However, let's be realistic: not every article we write is going to be great content. Many times we will miss that mark.

But we can also add improvements to that mediocre content we write and get it ranked higher. Therefore, according to many SEO experts, the "sweet spot" of keyword density is 0.003 - 1.5% of an article and is a way that will even optimize any article further. I feel this is the way to accomplish that.

So based on many experts, the Yoast SEO plugin, training online, and having some personal success employing this, this is my opinion:

Those who are trying hard to write great content but are not having any success ranking their articles using only their target keyword in the HI heading and in their first paragraph, should try to further optimize their content using the approach in this training.

Yes I know about and have used Yoast. But what Yoast tells us are only their guidelines and they are not in line with what Google says we are to do, nor WA training tells us.

That being said, why complicate matters by having to worry about a keyword density formula which Google says does not exist? The Panda update made keyword density obsolete.

Like Matt Cutts says in the video, once you start using your keyword 7 or more times in your content, Google hurts the rankings by bringing it down.

I feel that what is taught here in the WA training is spot on. Like Kyle and Jay have said, once in the title, meta description, and in the first paragraph. That is a very simple formula that works.

And why would you claim that search engine bots mostly scan only the first 50% of our content? Googlebot reads/indexes ALL of our content.

If it does what you say then your direction in point number 7 of this tutorial for adding the keyword in the last paragraph is a waste of time. Right?

Not so. As I mentioned I agree with Mat Cutts, but he makes an example of using a keyword 4-7 times in a short span . If you re-read my training more carefully, you will see I state that "...search engine bots mostly scan only up to 50% of your content from the beginning of your article." The key word is "mostly".

Matt's main point is to work your keywords into your content in "a natural way." I didn't see anywhere in his article where he specifically stated you could not use a target keyword 7 times. His "red widget" example demonstrates a keyword 4x within one sentence, which is grossly too much and "unnatural".

There are several SEO people "in the know" who have told me privately that Google bots mostly scan the first 30-50% of your content. Some of the bots do scan your whole content, so it doesn't hurt to place your target keyword in the last paragraph.

When you use a target keyword 7 times in an article of 2000 total words (0.003) where you "write naturally", that is not a high density, and certainly not keyword stuffing. This is something that could be used for articles that are struggling in the rankings.

Matt Cutts says, "The first one or two times you mention a word, that might help with your ranking. Absolutely. But just because you can say it 7 or 8 times that doesn't mean it will necessarily help your rankings."

"There is not hard and fast rule. And anybody who tells you there is a hard and fast rule, you might be careful, because they might be selling you keyword density software or something along those lines."

I am sure these people "in the know" do not know more than my friend David who is a Senior SEO Programmer for Google. Like I said in my WA blogs back in July, David says that what we learn here is in line with what Google requires.

That being said, can you give us an example of a low hanging fruit keyword with 40 or more monthly searches you have used 7 or more times that is ranking on page one of Google? Then I'll stop with the third degree. LOL

Thanks Kaju. I will have to note this as I write. Think I might have done some keyword stuffing in the past. Always learning.

Thanks Ray:) Yeah Ray, keyword stuffing is bad!
Err on the lower side of keyword instances, but make sure you have enough. Try to use Yoast SEO is you are not sure.

Love this post, easy to follow tips. I have just reviewed my last post based on this and a post that Jay made as well. I was dissapointed that a really good post was down on page 8 on Google.

Approx 2500 words and having just reviewed it including meta title and description I only used the keyword 6 times and twice in the last 2 paragraphs!

I have edited and included it 3 more times in the first 50% of the post and also added an internal link (as recommended by Jay)

I have just resubmitted to google so lets see if we can be higher than page 7. I will let you know

Thank You Kevin, read some further details in the comments I've made to others.

SEO is often a subject fraught with some disagreement, however if you use the Yoast SEO plugin ( a great plugin), it will correct you if you are using the keyword for too few instances or too many. This alone should provide further support to this training.

There is more than one way we can rank high in the SERPs. Try a few of them, and see what works best for you.

Wishing you the Best,
Kaju
