When you have established the default colour of your theme, hover your cursor over the colour and right click and at the bottom of the pop up you will see "Inspect"

From the image you can see the background colour your theme is using and the hex# number beside it.

Make a note of this number, only the number, disregard the semi colon.

I always find it easier to copy and paste the number so as not to make any mistakes.

Maybe put it into notepad or Google docs for future reference.
