Here is something that we may not think about as we are plugging away with enthusiasm to create our next page or post....

You can injure yourself while typing. If you are spending hours writing to contribute to the Wealthy Affiliate community or the audience of your blog in poor posture at your computer or desk, and your hands are not correctly aligned you are increasing the risk of injuries to your one and only body.

SO....do you have Blogging Pain? Are you experiencing any of these 'symptoms' after spending a few hours at your keyboard?

  • Get a Headache While Researching and Writing?
  • Do Your Shoulders Feel Like Rocks?
  • Is it Hard to Straighten Up After Working at Your Desk?
  • Do Your Hands Tingle Like You Just Hit Your Funny Bone?
  • Do You Have Pain in Your Elbow or Shoulders?
  • Are Your Wrists Feeling Like A Big Balloon?
  • Do You Feel Like You Need to Stop and Shake Your Hands Now and Again?
  • Does You Neck Hurt?

These are all signs of not having your work environment set up for you! Not adjusting your space to fit you can result in repetitive or stress injuries. I have seen statistics of people sitting for hours at their computer and just leaning over to pick up a pen from the floor and they injure their backs. They did not even get out of their chair and they are now in terrific, sometimes disabling pain.

We don't want you to be in pain because you are putting your heart into your blog or sharing here in the Wealthy Affiliate community. Read on to learn how you can reduce your risk for injuries.

There is no single “correct” posture or arrangement of components that will fit everyone. However, there are basic design goals, some of which are shown in the next few pages and images in this training. Do take this into consideration when setting up your work environment wherever you are or performing computer-related tasks.

Here is a checklist that Federal OSHA created for employees to use in assessing their work environments for ergonomic hazards. It is extensive and totally workplace oriented. Nevertheless, it could provide you with some insights if you care to walk through it and just apply to your setting at home or wherever you are studying and blogging.

Thank you Linda. Great training. much appreciated. I do have a bad back at present but not due to the ergonomics.

Thanks for the feedback, Kenny. I expect that its even more important for you to have a good work space where you write and study so as not to complicate an already injured back.

I appreciate you dropping in.

Great training! Back in my cubicle days I had my workstation set up perfectly. Not as easy to do with a small laptop and tablet working on a boat or whatever random location I can get wifi.

Oh yeah... I so get this. Working on a boat or whatever random location and on a laptop or tablet is going to be a VERY big challenge.

Taking a break to look out over the water and to get up and stretch and massage those hands and wrists will help. Let me know how you are doing. The idea is to reduce the tendons from creating inflammation in the carpal tunnel by the constant movement. Give your hands a break now and again is going to help.

Working less hours than most people helps. As ambitious and nice as some other people's goals sound...I wouldn't mind $100k/year, but I don't even need half that to support being a pirate. Freedom and location independence are both worth much more than money. Doing as much as I can on my tablet helps too, because it's much easier to work in a more comfortable position with less strain.
