Hi Leo,
Great training, so straight-forward, I can't believe I was nervous to do this until I watched your training, thank you.
One thing though, there was no option to uncheck 'show suggested videos' when I tried it. Is this something YouTube have changed or is there a new way to stop it from doing this?
Thanks again :-)
Reply
leoemery Premium
Yeah YouTube has made that change not long after I made this video (go figure) and you can't turn that feature off any more -
Reply
rubyandally Premium
Thanks Leo, I read somewhere that you can however ensure it stays on the same channel but I don't know how that's done.
Reply
mmussehl Premium
So how do you keep it from showing suggested videos now that YouTube made that change? Is there another way to prevent this from happening?
Thanks,
Michelle

Have you figured out how to ensure it stays on the same channel or video and prevent other suggested videos from playing yet? Please let me know as I am getting frustrated trying to figure it out.

rubyandally Premium
I haven't I'm afraid. I've had to find a whole new theme for my site because the one I have has so many errors in it. My replacement theme is a compromise so I've been putting my energies into getting the rest of the site looking acceptable. The video run-on is a minor concern for me right now.
Reply
leoemery Premium
No you can't prevent it - which sucks
Reply
leoemery Premium
You can do that for any videos you want to embed on a post or page. You do that by adding a small additional piece of code to your video ID known as the Rel Parameter

Copy the embed code and place it on the post or page you want the video on - now modify the code by adding ?rel=0 at the end of the code. So for example - "src=//www.youtube.com/embed/ABNcgSDRT?rel=0

Hope that helps
Reply
leoemery Premium
I replied to ruby explaining how to do that
Reply
mmussehl Premium
So I tried adding?rel=0 to my embed code. I updated my post but it is still showing relevant videos at the end of my YouTube video inside my post. Did this work for you? Am I missing something?
Thanks!
Reply
leoemery Premium
it will always so suggested videos you can't stop tjat from happening - however this code makes it so it shows videos from the YouTube channel that the viewed video is from - just a heads up I'm on my phone and I'm getting on a plane so i can't reply

Great training, thanks for sharing with us.
I share my You Tube videos on my blog and for that I just click share, get the link of that video and paste it on my blog post. Is that the right way to embed video on your post or not?

Best Wishes,
Bushra
Reply
leoemery Premium
If you're just providing the link then you're not actually embedding the video itself. And that's ok. But if you want get the most benefit (SEO wise) from your video it's best to embed the video itself as I have shown.

I embed my videos exactly the way it was done in the video. I switch back over to visual and the videos are there. Then I hit update and when it's done updating all the videos disappear! I don't know what i'm doing wrong. There is 10 videos I need in my article but can't get them to show up on my site..... Any help would be awesome! thank you

Hi Leo I cannot seem to find the embedded button has the format changed or do I need to sign in to google first ? which now owns utube ?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Nope you'll still find the Share button under the video. Now the buttons are right under the YouTube channel owners picture and subscribe button.- and you don't need to be signed into google.
Reply
MJKells Premium
thanks do you advocate putting at least 1 video on each page as long as they are relevant -because they do bump up your google scores don't they ?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Yes you can do that. And they do help, if the video going onto your page is yours - not someone else's
Reply
MJKells Premium
what if they are someone elses that are relevent- not so much help getting better google rankings ?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Correct they are not much help to your rankings if they are someone else's video

The problem I have with this training tape concerns what happens after you play the first tape. Some totally unrelated stuff appears in the video box and it goes off into completely different and unrelated videos.
Reply
leoemery Premium
Nothing can be added to the video after it has been uploaded and published - so it can't go off in a completely different direction.

The video owner would have to make a completely new video if he/she wants to change the video.

As for what videos are shown after a video plays is determined by YouTube and they only suggested related videos.

Plus you can turn off the video suggestion feature after the video plays

Leo, once I embed the video it just comes up as a giant blank space, any ideas on how to fix that?
Reply
TJamil Premium
Have you gone to your website or is this giant space shown on your site manager?
Reply
DavidHale Premium
It's a grey box in the site manager and a space on the actual site....
Reply
TJamil Premium
I'm not sure what could be the reason. Could be the browse. Try and test with a different browser.

If it not works, you can ask in the live chat to get an instant reply.

I can't seem to get the text to fit around my video, like I can with regular photos. Is there a way to do that?
Reply
TheOldSilly Premium
I have the same issue, and wish I knew the answer also.
Reply
leoemery Premium
You need to add some html code before and after the embed code.

This code below will float the text to the left - which means the text will be to the right of the video. Youtube embeded video are set to be justified to the left by default.

<div style="float:left;margin:0 15px 5px 0;">

This will float it to the right which means the text will be to the left of the video (of course you would need to justify the video to the right for the text to wrap to the left.

<div style="float:right;margin:0 15px 5px 0;">

So place the code before the embed code and then at the end of the embed code have this tag:

</div>

This closes the container -

So it will look like this:

<div style="float:right;margin:0 15px 5px 0;">THE EMBED YOUTUBE CODE</div>

You also have to make sure you have enough room for your text to be wrapped around the video. If you don't you can simple change the video dimensions within the embed code.

The numbers inside the code are for the margins and are as follows:

The first number (0) is for the top, the (15px) is for the right, (5px) is for the bottom and the last (0) is for the left

You can play with these numbers to set the margins.

I will make a training video showing how to do this as well.

This is such an easy to follow training. However I am still having problems. I do not have an update button on my theme. So I copy the code and than I can not seem to get it to stay. When I preview it is gone. What do I do instead of update? Mine says publish.
Reply
leoemery Premium
Then click publish or save it as draft

After you publish that button changes to update and if you make changes you can preview the page/post before updating

If you save things as a draft the publish button will still be there - if you're not ready to publish - to update the page/post click Update Draft

Hope that helps

Dan-L Premium
When you do it this way. Is the verification of ownership code from Google in the embed code.
Reply
leoemery Premium
When you upload a video to YouTube you need a youtube channel to do so.

Within the embed code is the link that was created when you uploaded the video to your channel.

Anyone that embeds your video has to use the share link or embed code. This code identifies the video as yours.

Can an embedded video be optimized as a photo can be with titles, descriptions, etc? I can't find that feature.
Reply
leoemery Premium
No you don't have access to features as it is not your video. Only the creator of a video has access to those features.
Reply
ShellSummers Premium
Ok, unlike a jpeg image, huh?
Reply
leoemery Premium
Exactly, images you can play around with all day long. But- with YouTube videos you cannot alter the video at all - as you are not the creator.

You can use U tube videos on your site because once they are on u tube they are public property
