Do You Compress Your Website Images?

Figured I'd share this video with fellow Wealthy Affiliate members as I know some of you may find this helpful moving forward.

The video is 8 minutes long, but I cover a little more than just compressing images.

However, if you don't have time to watch and want to know the method I use to compress images I insert into my blog posts and pages, it's simple.

(or jump to the 2 minute point of the video and watch the following 90 seconds)

Step 1: Capture and save images to hard drive/computer.

I use Monosnap to capture screenshots, works great and I highly recommend it:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/monosnap-help-us-to-help-you

Step 2: Visit the website TinyPNG.com and drag my saved images into the browser for compressing.

Step 3: Download newly compressed images to computer hard drive..

Step 4: Upload and insert in post/page.

-----------

In the video, I perform I few tests to see the different between compressed and uncompressed images. If you'd like to test your own site here are the following links:

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

http://gtmetrix.com/

http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/

I would recommend testing not just the homepage, but some of the internal pages too.

Final note, if you use Google page speed tool, please don't get too stressed out over things it's recommending you fix or improve upon. Focusing on your site content is more important.

This is just excellent training - I basically went through all my images on my web site and used TinyPNG.com to compress all of them. I was amazed at some of the results I got, - 60-80% size reduction in most cases. That's got to help. Thanks VERY much for making this. Glyn

I thought I was good with re-sizing the images down to 600px.....now I see how that's not the correct compression!:)P Thanks Bro.

Thanks for the comment Cathy, I just had a quick look at your Bonsai site, some of the large images defiantly have room for compressing.

Thanks for this info. That's amazing how much of difference you got by compressing your images and adding a couple of plugins. This is something I will do :) Thanks!
