I have TheNotes Lite theme. I have published the About Me section. On my home page, it shows an empty picture icon next to the blog post. I have already updated my profile picture under admin settings. How do I add a picture to the About Me or how do I delete the icon?

I just watched the video on creating content and it was excellent. T he question I have regarding the content that I am about to is that, I know the affiliate program that I will be promoting but, I have not signed up with them yet. Should I go a head and write the content anyway and post it befrore I sign up with the affiliate company or wait until I actually sign up?

I would just write the content now, and add the affiliate links later. You can do it the other way too, and I've done this, but with a brand new website I recommend getting some content on your site first before applying to affiliate programs. (Kyle shows you that in Level 3).

Hi, I am creating my first post "About Us" page. I have followed through the video lesson, however at the publish content part I am having a problem. I have created my own content and removed the defaults wordings. When I have published my new content and went to view my newly edited changes on the website, it is still showing my old post and not the new one?

I would recommend visiting sites that you enjoy and see how they do it. But don't get too hung up on it. Your About page is just a short introduction to your site, and maybe a quick bio with a few interesting facts about you as a person. Just be yourself and it'll be great :-)

1. I noticed that published About as a blog post. This is the first post. As you publish further posts, doesn’t this get pushed further down i.e. it will not be the first thing to be seen by viewer. Most sites have About as a static item in the menu. If this was published as a page, is that where it would show?
2. Does WP have a search feature by default or is a plug-in required? If so, which one is recommended?
Reply

That is correct. You will turn this into a static page later. The reason you create it as a post first is to allow you to receive comments on it. Just follow the training and all will be "revealed". lol

@kyle Hi, in my theme even though I posted the Privacy Policy as a Page, it did not create a menu on the top like you said could happen but is there a way to adjust that so it does for future pages? Also, my Privacy Policy says "Posted on (date) by admin" as if it were a Blog post even though it's a page. How can we delete that byline/date?

I'm also trying to figure out how to delete my email address that is showing up on my blog posts (it says "posted by admin" with my email address underneath. Others have told me there's no way to get rid of it without going into the code editor, but I am confused as to where I should look for the code and don't want to mess it up. Thanks for any help you can provide!
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Many themes don't create the main menu automatically. Log in to your site and go to Appearance > Menus. In the left column you will see all of your "stuff". Just checkmark what you want on there and click "add to menu" and it should appear in the right column. Make sure the box underneath for "primary menu" is checked and hit save. Go back to your site and hit refresh and the new menu should show up at the top. Hope this helps :-)

My niche and website will be about type 2 diabetes, and I want to put a medical disclaimer (saying please see doctor or medical professional regarding any content on this blog) which I want to be very prominent. Where would be a good place to put that where it is very noticeable.

You might try it at the top of your sidebar; this would allow it to display on every page and post.

I clicked on my publish content button and successfully posted my "About Me" page - but forgot to check my grammar, so I figured that I would just check it in WordPress. Only I can't locate any grammar check or spell check feature when editing in WordPress. My only other option has been to copy and past my content in a word document and use the spell checker there, then paste it back into WordPress.
Is there a spell checker in the WordPress editor?

Thanks!

I don't believe WP has one specifically built in, although there may be a plugin for it. I just use Grammarly. You can install it on your Chrome browser and it works great.

I found the video and the web site word press did not have the same features, or head them but not in the same format.
Making it hard for me to follow the lesson.
I saved it as a draft but when I tried to get it back it was no where to be found.
Will I have to log out then log back in to see the draft. If so I missed that in the lesson

This video of Creating Initial Website Content is not difficult to do because it starts with the "About Me" portion of your website. I am assuming that everyone is comfortable with writing about themselves and telling their own story. The second portion of this video deals with the "Privacy Policy" of your site. This is extremely important and I am glad that WA trains its members to do this up front. What is great about the way WA does it is the fact that everything is already pre-written for you within a template. That saves a lot of time. I think this was a good move on the part of the WA team.

So as he is explaining to us the content on our sites, he is very much so aiming it to what seems to be an interactive, more social site. How would one change this to be a site to sell things? Or would I just be better off to follow this exactly and make a more information/discussion based website?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Follow the system. Unless you already have a well established name and a loyal audience, you will not likely be successful just creating a site with a bunch of stuff for sale. You will need to build trust with your visitors before they will buy anything, and the best way to do that is by following the process and creating quality content. You have to give (a LOT) before you can expect to receive.
Reply
suzieq Premium
Hey Dana. The idea is to create content that’s helpful to your readers. That’s how you will rank in Google. If you created a site that just offered things for sale, Google won’t rank you so no one would find you. So no sales lol.
When you write valuable content with the right keywords, people will find you. And eventually your site will gain “authority” and draw a lot more traffic. That’s the point when you start to see a big increase in sales.
Lots to digest at the beginning. But it works!! Just keep going forward step by step. You’re doing great!

Whew, that was simple but extensive in scope. I am in need of a lot of practice, which I am sure is in the plan for all of us. It's almost like memorizing the Webster's unabridged dictionary, but maybe a little easier, LOL. Thanks for going through all that. I look forward to understanding and USING the subjects taught. That is NOT a DIY without this instruction!!!! Thanks for teaching it so very well.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
Just hang in there. And I wouldn't worry too much about memorizing anything. One of the benefits of Premium membership is that you will have access to the training forever. So, even after you have completed the program, you can always go back and look. Eventually, it will just become ingrained like muscle-memory, but until then just review individual lessons as needed.

I've been doing this a while, and I will still go back and work through each lesson as a digital "to-do" list when launching a new site just to ensure I don't miss something.

The privacy policy is updated since then. Under the THIRD PARTIES heading on the last sentence, it says "We may share your above mentioned data with following third party companies from time to time".

I had thought it was supposed to say "data with THE following third parties" and then list them if you have any. But maybe I am wrong?

Regardless, I followed all the instructions and I am excited about the next step!

I apologize for some of my basic questions but I need to be able to go directly from the training videos sometimes to my web page to be sure I'm doing stuff correctly. Yes. I have the exact same challenge. Just open a second window in your browser and login to WA on it as well.

I will have one window open to the lesson, and the other window logged into my site (or whatever I'm working on), and then I just bounce back and forth. It makes things very easy and efficient.

Hi, Kyle. I watched the About Me and Privacy Policy video twice and have a question.
There is, what seems to be a page layout or content deminsions, that says 97 words for
about me page. I started writing one and about half way through, I noticed my number
of words was around 230 and climbing. And, I noticed your site in the video seemed
longer than 97 words. Am I understand the word content number correctly?

Thank you for the video, Kyle. It raises a couple of questions and comments.

1. In my WP websites outside WA, I have always created About Us as a page, because I can then make it a menu item that is always just 1 click away for a visitor. Surely if you create it as your first post, it is going to gradually disappear under the weight of subsequent posts. I can see an argument for creating it as a post AND a page, but not just as a post.

2. Your Site Content editor could really do with a search and replace facility.

3. Does it automatically obfuscate the email address in your Privacy Policy page. If not, it's an invitation to harvesting bots to trawl the page and harvest your email address. If Site Content editor doesn't do this, there are plenty of plugins that do, and it could be worth mentioning. Just sayin'.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
If you follow the training step by step, and don't move on to the next lesson until you complete the tasks, all will be revealed. Your comments about the About page and your concerns regarding bots on the Privacy Policy are both addressed in later lessons.

Trust the process. :-)

I find it very useful when in video presentations you say at certain point, something like :
"But you don´t need to worry too much about this at this point right now, because you can change and adjust this at any time later on." It gives relief of "doing something wrong" or "everything has to be perfect NOW"

Of all the pages that are needed on a website, this one is the scariest one for me. So much so that it has often stopped me from going forward.

It ranks right up there to writing, what we use to call a resume. I have been on disability all of my adult life, consequently, I do not have a list of 'work accomplishments' or skills.

Today this will be a challenge: how to write something about myself that is true and worthy of acceptance in a world full of achievers.
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
See it at just that, a challenge, but don't let fear get in the way.

Look at it this way: your About page doesn't need to be a resume of list of accomplishments; it just needs to be about the real you. In fact, speaking about your disability and life experiences open and honestly will endure you to your readers even that much more.

This biggest mistake I see with many websites is that they come across as "fake" or just interested in making money. So be the exception. Treat your readers with respect and I promise they will connect with you at a deeper level than you ever thought possible.

If you need any help with anything, do not hesitate to ask. One of the best benefits with being a member of WA is the huge community of like-minded people, all supporting one another with achieving our dreams.

You can do this!

Why would you post your "About Kyle" as a post and not a page? Could you post as both a page and post so that the about me stays static in one place for new visitors to come and learn about you and the why of your blog without having to search through your blog?
Reply
AJTrimble1 Premium
You are correct. I thought the same thing when I was in this section, but I found if you stick with the lessons, all seems to work out in the end. In a later lesson this is covered and, yes, you will turn this into a permanent page. Kyle explains that the reason for it to be a post first is so Google picks it up quicker (apparently the Big G is a bit slow on the uptake of pages compared to posts, so in a sense it's a way to "beat the system" for faster results.)

Hope this helps.

Ok, I really need some assistance. I'm loving the program so far, however I'm a little confused.
So I did what Kyle suggested and went to amazon to find a niche and settled on Artwork/decor for childrens rooms.

Now I know that I can't actually become an affiliate for these products until I have a lot of traffic and the way to do that is through posting etc. But how many posts can I make about childrens artwork?

I started to make the goal heading of my first post about "providing a one stop shop for childrens artwork and decor etc etc" then remembered, I wont actually have anything to sell yet.

For example in the niche video where Kyle shows us the Snack Helmets site, how many posts could the owner of that site possibly have written in order to get traffic to his site without any affiliate links to actually buy them?

I created and published my site as a page for a reason. I built the site around product/service of which I'm a reseller.

It's not intended to be a site for interaction nor is it a capture page. It is meant to direct viewers to pages with my affiliate links.

Those pages will have all of the content needed to get the message across and calls to action done.

So I've intentionally avoided setting up as a post, privacy page, and SEO (since that would be covered by the creator of the product/service). Should I reconsider doing this differently?

I think we will be more successful if we follow the training. THEN once we know what we are doing, we can tweak and adjust. Right now, we do not know what we think we know. Or we'd already be doing it. ;)

Yes. Without the SEO and posts, google yahoo and bing will not be able to index you to show your product in their searches. You want people to view your site and use your affiliate link to get to the product. That is how you get paid.

That video certainly clarified the mystery in website structure for me, especially regarding the Privacy Policy page.

The text editors are going to be beneficial to me as they will allow me to focus on my content and not become distracted by the placement on the page or post.

I'm looking forward to browsing the millions of images as well.

Thanks Kyle, I liked your presentation. It was thorough, engaging and very helpful.

Hello! I was wondering about the portion of the video where you mention always putting up content as a post instead of a page (aside from the privacy policy). I had originally planned to set up my site with a standard home page which then linked to other pages with individual products and descriptions. You mentioned that Google likes it when you put things up as posts because it makes your page look active, if I set it up with pages instead will it hurt my rankings? Can I perhaps just have a running list of the newest articles I've published on the home page which then link to an individual product page? Thank you, in advance, I hope to hear from you.

Everything you're describing can be done with posts :) Your blog roll would be that running list of newest articles which can link to other review posts with products and descriptions. You could also link to pages as well. The only difference between a post and a page is that a page is like a "sticky" post that doesn't show up in your blog roll and needs to be nested in a menu.

Hello. I dont have too much passion about my Niche, to have alot to say about it, so i was wondering if within WA there are videos or posts to help me out writing about my particular niche , in creating a post About Me, Creating My Story, and The Goal of My Site? My Niche is Toddlers Clothing. Thank You. ☺

hey Kyle my Privacy Policy is a little different than the one shown in the video. It asks for the name of a third party AUTO RESPONDER SERVICE and also at what URL they can always find the most current version of the privacy policy

So that's done. I have completed my about me post and published the privacy policy. It was easier than I thought after I followed Kyle's instructions to write as though am speaking to a friend. Prior to this I have always blogged with some tension, fearing that I would not get it right. I hesitated for a day and a half on my page. Then when I began to write, it all flowed. Wooowwwee, am really enjoying this. Praise the Lord. Thank you Kyle, and the others who have answered my questions along the way, like "onmyownterms"
