If you're like many people you're probably doing reviews on your website.

In this short video I show you how to create a Review tab for your menu that includes a drop down menu with specific categories for your reviews.

Now you can do this for anything I just used reviews as the example in the video.

Enjoy

I Believe In You!

Hi Leo, thank you for this!

Being here for 7 weeks, it's easy to understand this step by step video. You had also helped me with another video that was just as simple.

I am now following you seeing how you have helped me in a couple of big ways so far. Looking forward to learning more with your videos.

Thanks Again

What if my reviews are located under comments , how do I migrate them to the sub menu of reviews? Also this was a great video, I like the no frills fast and easy technique.
Reply
leoemery Premium
Not sure what you mean - a review cannot be placed under a comment - the post has to be created first - then people can leave a comment.

As mentioned in the video only posts no matter what type, review or otherwise can be placed in a category.
Reply
Tdsmithinc Premium
Well somehow my Home page is accessed through the post in WP. I think I will need to change that to a Page, then the drop down will work the right way?

Hi Leo, thanks for this training. I have a question in regards to pages. My reviews are mainly pages. They appear under Menu Tab "My personal reviews". But now I would like to reorganize the reviews I have already written under different categories. How can I do this and would it affect the URL (because they are already indexed)?
Thanks in advance from Anke

Reply
SGMartin Premium
If your talking about SiteRubix I had the same problem, just had to make sure I moved sideways to the drop down menu, then I could move down to the selection I wanted.
Hope this helps.
Reply
leoemery Premium
No fix required, it's a hover issue, meaning when you place your cursor over the drop-down if oyu move incorrectly the drop down will close.

Just me more precise with moving your cursor over your drop down. This can happen with any drop down

High All How do i add a "contact me tab" so when pressed it will go straight to my contact details? I.e. Name and Email addresses
Reply
Loes Premium
You add a new page, and call it Contact
and add on that page your contact data.
You can add that page to any menu,
and you can make a link to that page too by selecting the word "Contact" and click on the link button to make a reference

Hope this will help you

Pages and posts are different, so I assume you mean you have a lot of posts. Either way, you will need to create the categories that you want your posts in and then yes you will need to go through each post and place them in the appropriate category

Really enjoyed the lesson! However, I was wondering if I could do this to an already existing tab on a page where my blog roll is located?
Reply
Labman Premium
Yes, you should be able to add a drop down to your blog page. That will somewhat obscure the blog roll however.
Reply
RigoS Premium
Yeah, you're right about that. However, I feel that if I were a visitor on my page I'd like to have the blog roll there to check out the newest content as well as have the option to look for specific products. I review skate shoes, so I imagine some of my readers will be on the market for a specific shoe and I don't want them to get frustrated and leave my page scrolling through the blog roll and not finding what they need. Thanks for the response!

Add a side menu to showcase the products.

Leo I just wanted to say that I really like your videos. Even though you go through the instructional process very quickly, I can pause the video for my brain can catch up or I can parrallel my own wction with yours.

I especially like the fact that you explain what your are clicking on and why, so that we know what we are doing.

Other traing video's don't do this and can be very confusing to get thru.

I hope that makes sense. Anyway, a big thanks, love your training style!!

Reply
Missa3 Premium
No I don't think that is necessary, as you can always review or reverse as necessary. For those who can keep up as you go, it would be a diservice to them.

I actually meant it as a complement, you know what you are doing, are comfortable with it, and get right to it, I wouldn't change a thing!! Really.

Hi Leo! I'm hoping this is what I needed to do for my site. I'm still getting 404 errors in GWT for categories. I had created a main category with 2 sub categories instead of using the # and "link to" as you described. I changed my menu as per your video and deleted the main category but left the 2 sub categories and added the # and link to text. Do you think I'm out of the woods now or did I just create a whole new set of problems? Should I resubmit my site map?

I loved the video! I am SO CLOSE but must still be missing something. I just can't seem to add my post content to a menu category. Would you mind looking at my site and then giving me a "walk through"? For example - I have recipes that I have added as posts but I cannot get them to the 'Grandpa Z's Recipe Box' tab on menu. Too confusing for guests to find recipes without scrolling through ALL my posts! Thanks!!

www.thehomemakerswindow.com
Reply
leoemery Premium
I think I see the problem. In the drop down menu of Grandpa Z - those look like recipes not Categories. SO remove those from your drop down.

Now go to your dashboard, go to categories and create some recipe categories. For example Cakes, Breakfast, Dinner, Desert.

Now go to your posts and then pick the appropriate category to place each post.
Reply
KimberelyW Premium
Ok thanks so much! I am almost there!! ;) I got the drop downs right...now I just can't get the post to be accessed through the specific category - For instance, I can go to 'Supper'...and see Swedish Meatballs but when I click on it...it takes me to a page stating "cannot be found". ?? Thanks again for your time.

I know you can change the number of posts shown on your blog roll, but as for changing the number of post displayed on a category page, sounds like that may be a code change within the theme.

Personally I don't mind having pages, in one of my categories I have 6 pages and growing. I think it looks a lot cleaner with only 5 or 6 posts showing one each page, but that's just me.

Reply
scottn1323 Premium
Not Leo but I do know that not all themes are the same. But in my theme I do have a category section in the edit post mode located on the right sidebar and I have the ability to ADD NEW CATEGORY. This is where you can name a new category. Uncategorized is the default and only one provided until you add a new one. Hope this helps.

Hi there, thank you for your reply, the thing is that I remember that there used to be a category box there? Very strange , thank you
Reply

If you don't see the Category section chances are you may have the Category tab unchecked in your screen options.

Open a post, and at the top of the page open the tab that says Screen Options and make sure you have Comments checked.

Your blog roll or as you are calling it "presentation page" can only show posts - however you can place any post in categories if you like.

The post will still show on your blog roll as well as the category you choose.

One question. How can I add the privacy policy to the footer navigation?
Reply
leoemery Premium
If your theme supports footer widgets it can be done that way.

I have done a training video showing how to create a text link and then adding to your widget - you can do this for your privacy policy.

If your theme does not support footer widgets - you can place the widget in your sidebar- call it Policies and place the link there. That's how I have it on my site Showing how to create a link is around the 4:30 minute mark in the video

Hope this helps

But you could add a tab to the drop down on the main review tab and have that tab directly linked to your page with the multiple reviews.
