Maybe you have a report or a PDF document that you want to give to your visitors who visit your website.

One of the best ways to do this is create a downloadable file for them.

In this short video I'll show you how easy it is to create a text link and an image link for your downloadable file.

Enjoy!

Thanks Leo. Just wondering, if I want to get the readers name and email before giving access to the file, what is the easiest way to go about that?

Best way is to set up a specific optin page, or have an optin on your website

But if I set it up on a specific page like you did in the video they still don't need to provide their info. I have a free mailchimp account but I can't figure out how to link the book to the sign up box.

You would provide the download page link in your email message after they have signed up.

So you would create the optin page - and in your welcome email message you provide the link to the download page and on that page is the link to download the file.

Or you can even provide the link to the file in your email message - skipping the step of having a download page

Ah ok. It doesn't look like an autoresponder is part of the free mailchimp account. I assume an auto responder is what you are referring to when you are talking about my welcome email message?

Yes, free accounts, from places like mailchimp do not have autoresponder capabilities - they will once you upgrade to the paid version

Unfortunately I am not able to pay for any more monthly memberships right now. I was hoping to be able to start a list without having to pay for an auto responder service. Do you know of any ways around this?

I guess for now, whenever someone subscribes to my list I can manually send them an email with the ebook (pdf) attached. Or do you think this is not a good idea?

I don't have too much traffic at this point (my site is just over 7 months old) so sending manual emails should be manageable. However, if they subscribe in the middle of the night they wouldn't get the link until I am able to send it.

You could do it manually, but it's not the best solution. There Is no real work around for building your list and sending your PDF automatically without using an autoresponder.

Right now I would focus on building your traffic and once that is growing and you are making some money then you can think about build your list.

Ok thanks. I recently finished my ebook and would like to give it away. Do you suggest I just put a link on a page like you did in the video?

On a somewhat positive note, I logged into my amazon associates account a few minutes ago and saw I made my first sale! My commission is 16 cents! Hahaha. It wasn't for a product that I recommended.

16 cents - Hey it's a start. What I would do is create a nice download page with a picture of your book and make the image the download link.

And then put a positive spin on it, make special note they don't have give up any information to get your free book. The just have to click the image and they are good to go.

So the page layout could be text, then the image and then text below.

Not sure what your book is about, but make sure to include affiliate links within the book.

Thanks so much for the info and help! My niche is a tough one to monetize (I think). Its child development - specially encouraging language development and learning through play. I was only able to fit in one affiliate link and 2 links to articles on the site. I think know it would have come across as salesy with more than that.

I started thinking maybe I was doing something wrong or missed some crucial steps in the training but the people who have been to my site and given me feedback have all been very positive. So I guess I will just keep at it.

Sweet and to the point, thanks!!
My question is if I put a link to a document on one of my pages, does that mean the option to save in the visitor's computer always comes up? Is there a way to prevent that if I don't want something available for saving for my visitors?

It's a downloadable file the save option will always appear. If you don't want people to save anything you can't have a downloadable link.

What makes it downloadable?

Because the link is connected to the file. It's not like a link to a page or a post.

If you want to share something your visitors but not have it available for download - simply put whatever it is you want to share on a page just like you do with any other content and have a link to that page.

If you don't want people to copy any of the content - then install a plugin that prevents content theft.

I remember someone here posted about such a plug in, it's a great idea, I will have to go look for it.

Used to be a hassle of using landing pages and Aweber to accomplish this which always confused me. This is simple and easy. Thanks a million Leo. Keep your training coming. Love it.

Good stuff. I wish I knew all the things you do about video, SEO, training, tutorals. Wow! I see so many utube video's which just crawl along and you get so tired of sitting there going in slow motion! Better to be fast, and then poeple can click pause! :)

Thanks.

Yeah I can't stand videos that drag on and on - that's why I try and make my videos a short as possible.

For me it's get to the point show me what I need to know and call it a day.
