Why Copyscape?

If as a content writer or freelance writer you've never used Copyscape, it's because you do not know the benefits. This section uncovers some of the reasons you should use Copyscape.

I - Protect the Content of Your Website

You can either type in the URL, or use Copysentry to scan for duplicate copies. By doing this, you will be able to find out if there are people who reproduce your articles.

II - Check for Uniqueness of Your Articles

To enable you to deliver original content to your clients, you will need to run a plagiarism check. If clients find out that your work is lifted from an earlier article, your credibility may take a hard blow.

Using Copyscape to perform plagiarism checks puts your mind to rest as to the uniqueness of your content.

III - SEO Best Practice

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices are techniques used for achieving higher search engine rankings. It requires compliance with certain rules in order for search engines to rank your web pages better.

One such rule is the creation and distribution of original pieces of content. And if your content is discovered to contain duplicate copies, your web page will be penalized.

I love Copyscape and do use it, though not with every article. I consider one of the many tools I use (also Grammarly, Yoast, etc)

Good tutorial on CS!

Excellent article.

I didn't even know that such software existed.

I guess Copyscape will even locate one own duplicate articles in FB, Youtube, and other social media. I have duplicate content in FB, Youtube, twitter.

I guess that it will find duplicates somewhere. Probably, it is impossible to avoid partial content duplicates.

For example: The animal and/or pet/dog niche. There are hundreds of blogs in this niche. I have found many with almost the same content. All seem original, but saying the same thing.

How can I avoid duplicating something that there seems to be no other way to say it?

Blessings.

I use Copyscape and yes, you will find some duplicates, even if you are writing fresh information. The important part is to make sure you are adding something more than you have read before. So, for instance, on my pet blog, I wrote an article on traveling with pets. Most of the points I brought out were similar to others I've seen. But I expanded on them from my own experiences. I tried to make the information truly helpful, rather than just points of interest.

I hope that helps. It can be a busy world out there but there is always a new way to look at something.

Yes, that could be "unique" about content, personal experience in the subject or content.

Welcome once again! In as much as nothing is completely new in this world, and you want to be unique in all of your content, I believe you can achieve that by making frantic effort to be unique from others. Then, try running plagiarism checks using two or more tools.

Good training. I have used Copyscape.
Then this becomes a 2-part question.
With millions of writers copying parts of other people's content, what is the definition of plagiarism?
The 2nd part, once found how does one effectively police the plagiarism?

Thanks for asking, Kaju! To my own understanding, plagiarism is the act of duplicating an integral part of someone else's work without making any frantic effort to make it unique.

You can effectively police plagiarized content by making use of strong plagiarism detection tools like Copyscape and issuing a DMCA takedown notice when found. Thanks again!

However, plagiarizing one sentence verbatim may not constitute "plagiarism"; so its also the AMOUNT of duplicated content, not only the act of duplicating ANY content that would constitute plagiarism.
