Keywords

In the training, Jay discusses how content not matching the chosen keywords can result in high bounce rates (and exit rates too.) A feeling of anxiety came over me...

In spite of the training on here, I have been listening to other members on here saying that keyword research can be compulsive, leaving the impression that well, keyword research really isn't that important is it? So, a few in here justify their beliefs in this by simply not doing it. Some do it in only half of their content, or just for the domain.

Besides, just hammering out content will just take care of itself and Google will find keywords in there already. So I was influenced by this nefarious method of madness...

Coming Clean with a Bad Habit

I've been here a long time and should know better... The moral of this story ... If you are doing this, STOP!

Keyword research being taught in here is for VERY good reason! Reason(s) at that! So I come clean with this. Corny as this may sound, I'm not going to listen to the talk about just putting up content without bothering with the keyword research, and I'm going to do it going forward. If you are doing this and you believe in what you are doing, please don't publicize it. Even doing it partly and expressing this can cause others, especially the new folks to take on a bad habit that you may be somewhat successful in doing. Some are currently doing this, but it's not new by any means. It's instances in this membership are probably as old as WA is itself.

Take heed to the following three pages, especially you who are new to this...

I'm very glad some of the stuff I write is useful. It needs to be this way "out there" too.

Thanks Daniel, I enjoyed your words of wisdom as it was an excellent reminder to stick to the plan that the proven experts have set out for me and not let others influence me to stray from that training.
Much appreciated
John

In spite of the training, I let it happen to me too. Now I've got to fix it.

This is an excellent resource, Daniel. You have done a great job of reinforcing the training through your personal example.

Well written and insightful. Spot on the money.

Keep it up, my friend.

Thank you Scott. I hope you are doing okay with your own campaigns :) Haven't heard much from you lately but glad to see you are still here and working in it. I will never forget that you out of everyone was the one who noticed the change in color in my shirt LOL!

If it wasn't for Jay and his live training, this resource wouldn't even be here. Two reasons to learn in here - you learn new stuff, and you re-learn stuff. I'm often having to go over these kind of things, especially analytics and stuff like Google authorship. Every time I do this, I have to go back and review how to do them.

I`ve done and more recently, seen others make all kinds of errors when it comes to keywords. Nice job clearing up some of the most common mistakes!

It's one thing to make errors with keywords. A whole another ball game when you leave them out altogether. There are some pages I have that, unfortunately I won't be able to find keywords for and they won't pull like I would they would.

It's still possible to make use of keywords as subheadings so as not to seem like keyword stuffing. As far as results go, I've always found myself getting good rankings under terms I never even targeted at all! Keywords are important but not the end all be all by any means.

Yes, that's right. Kyle was doing it in the Boot Camp, I think the first lesson in Level 5.
