What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

So could a niche just be trying different things? I love trying new things whether it be little arts and crafts ideas with my kids, trying to grow a new plant that I've never heard of in my life in a garden, to seeing what surveys online actually are legit and pay out, or the nice new tech stuff like a new video gaming system that my husband has been begging me to get for a year now.

Hi Rose
Its always best to go with something you have experience and knowledge of.
This way you can write articles with authority and that authority will come across to your sire visitors and they will come to trust you.
Gaining the trust of your potential customers is very important.
Enjoy your Saturday.

A niche should be focused on one topic so you're seen as an expert about it by Google. You don't want your site to be all over the place because it's hard to optimize it that way.

I have a couple of ideas about what my niche could be. I am a musician in a very successful "Golden Oldies Group. We do over 300 songs from the decades of the 50's-80's. In order to do those songs we have chord sheets for every song that can be downloaded into an iPad. It eliminates having to carry a huge notebook or have a music stand... Lot of musicians are using iPads these days..Problem is there are not that many "working musicians"

1. One idea I have would be to assemble all of these chord sheets as a pdf book and market it to other musicians or people who are learning guitar and want to play that type of music (older people). I could also include links to other affiliates dealing with music.... My reservation about this is, I am wondering how big the market would be for something like this...is it to small?
2. I also do all the booking for our group and am very good at marketing and promoting our group or anything for that matter.. So I was thinking about writing a blog as to how to go about that and make it available to other musicians that are struggling to find gis... but is the market too small for that?
3. I have about 100 videos up on youtube of our group doing many of these songs. Would it make sense to try to get exposure on Youtube and monetize what I have up there???

4. I really like the idea of promoting WA. I am good at promoting things but I have seen others here say not to start off doing that. They say it would be better to promote a product or a blog first before getting involved promoting WA...
So here I am ....what should I choose... Boot Camp? or Online Certification path??? any and all advice would be appreciated...TY

First of all, I have a 17 year old with a group of friends doing songs from these eras. Just sayin'

Don't give yourself the idea that only "Working Musicians" will be interested in what you have to offer. Even if you have a limited imagination about how many musicians might be interested, there's some potential in your idea!

I was in a garage band whose goal was to be...believe it or not...a garage band. So we played each other's birthday parties and our wive's and friends parties too...for nothing, but I would have loved something like this at the time. I was the lead vocals and would like this for lyrics, so we could better take requests that we are only familiar with.

There might be licensing issues, I'm not sure, but I think you've got a good idea there!
Reply
Thank you for your encouragement... about licensing...all of the lyrics can be found on several websites and cane be accessed and downloaded at no cost. ...What we have done is put those lyrics in a different format so they can easily be read on an iPad. When I upgrade to premium I will attach and example... What do you think of the other ideas listed? a blog about how to get gigs??? I would make an online book with table of contents...or something.. maybe arrange and list the songs by the decade they are in..

Funny someone said #4. That is my journey as we speak. My niche will have to be put on the back burner, for the time being. I will eventually complete it for my niche requires videos that I'm finding a way to do it. Y'know directing my video and creating examples, etc.

I chose now WA as another niche I will focus my attention towards and going thru Boothcamp, which to me the appropriate steps to take. Seems pretty exciting to me.

I think I have narrowed in on my niche (exciting)!..Natural weight loss supplements for women. Weight loss and things related (nutrition, exercise, etc) is something I am very passionate about, definitely experienced in, and know a little bit about :)

However, with so many different "supplements" and affiliate programs (it's quite overwhelming), I am wondering if I should narrow down even further to a selection of specific supplements..ones that I would actually use and honestly recommend. For example, Garcinia Cambogia, Raspberry Ketones, Green tea, Green coffee, Probiotics/prebiotics would all be specific supplements that I personally would endorse. Or, is it best to just leave it as "natural weight loss supplements for women"?

Any advice would be wonderful..thank you kindly!

Consider what you think people are looking for...is it info on specific supplement or supplements for women in general...the way I see it is make the site the more general and the post’s and categories the more specific as the support the site as a whole.

Greetings. I just finished the segment on choosing a Niche. I have written an ebook which chronicles my experience in selling stock options in which I have been able to earn
in excess of $6,500 in premiums. So, I am planning on building a website to market this
ebook. This is not a how to trade options book. I wouldn't know how, nor am I qualified to
write such a book. It is only a chronicle of my personal experience.

Why did I write it? Well as I mention, it is not to train anyone, but perhaps encourage them
to do their own research, and maybe even some paper trade, another term for pretend trade,
to see whether it is something they might want to explore.

So, I have my first niche. W.Clark

Hi, I want to choose a niche on personal development. Not too sure if this is the best place to start, as a beginner. As I would probably need a huge email list, squeeze pages, etc. And you have some heavy weights out there as well. I like change, and I have found in the past, most, not all though are not open to change. Also baby related niche is the other.
Reply

I would narrow this down a bit, what do you want to help people personally develop. Personal development is a bit of a trap niche because it can mean so many different things to different people.

After giving this thought I see choosing a niche is not a easy task I could get in where I fit in that would lead me to musical instuments and equipment but I don't know if there is a online demand for buying instuments is a personal experience when you buy something you want to be able to play it to hear what it sounds like so I will probably choose a more profitable niche
Reply

Yes, buying instruments (people interested in buy a guitar, etc) is definitely a niche. So is playing music, learning how to play it, along with many other aspects of the music industry. Lots of directions that you could head.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Hey Kyle, thank you for video link It was very helpful,
I think I found my niche or what you can call segment as it is a bit broader to niche
I want to go into the segment of "babies 0-2 yrs".
I think in this segment I would like to create a website providing the needs of babies and moms as the first 2 years of human life the things are pretty much in need.
I want to help people find and guide them for the requirements for babies growth.

Please guide me to create this!!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Sure, what aspect of babies do you want to help people out with. Obviously that is a huge audience and there are many things parents are looking for when it comes to their infants.

You could create a brand like the "first 2 years", I just would be careful about covering too broad of topics whens starting out or you are going to be left with a sense of being overwhelmed. Even something like Swaddling is a HUGE niche, just something to consider before you go too broad.
Reply
yes Kyle, exactly my point I do have an idea how broad this segment is, but thanx to your video this idea popped up to my head and I remember my experience with my kids, and as a parent a lot of experiences I have been through and helping new parents is what I was thinking to get in. certainly, I will narrow it down to start within the next couple of days, and later I will think of adding horizontally and vertically expansions. though this area has a lot of room.

hey hi Barry & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate Starter!

All good questions:

1. If you have a niche site for affiliate marketing -- then it depends upon the affiliate company -- it varies.... you would need to find this out during your research of each affiliate company that you've selected to possibly work with... recommend you get rolling on your training: 2. If you are promoting a product, then, of course, you would need to be sufficiently knowledgeable about the product in order to write product reviews.... it really is up to you whether you want to purchase the product or not...

3. if you would like to promote Wealthy Affiliate, then, you would need to build your site around that and do the training to success.... and it would be recommended to become a WA Premium member to obtain all the amazing benefits & advantages....

hope this helps to answer your questions a wee bit for clarity and understanding...

all the best & enjoy the amazing WA journey to success, cheerio ... 😊

How far would you narrow down your niche? I have been in programs where the focus on on super narrow niches so it becomes difficult when I have a lot of interests. All in a similar field, fitness, strength training, nutrition, mindset coaching etc. Recently I've been doing work with women's strength coaching so I could start there.

StefanC Premium
In my opinion, should not go too narrow to the point where you can struggle to find topics that can attract people to your site.

I think your niche should have the size that allows you to write at least 100 posts. These include How to's, reviews and top X type of posts. The more you can write about your specific niche, the better.

My advice is Choose your niche, but don't choose a domain name that will limit your ability to cover related topics. It's good to have some space to adapt as you gain more experience in your niche. As long as you are not covering topics that are not related to your site, it's Ok!

The point: you need to promote something you honestly appreciate ... And there is only one secret: you can (in fact you need to) do a lot of research ...

hey hi David & welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

... pretty much any niche can be a successful one -- depends upon you -- you have a couple of great ideas there ... once selected, keep in mind, that whichever one you choose, that you have a high level of interest or passion about it enough to write / blog in-depth over an extended period of time ...

another consideration would be: "I want to help others ............... and complete the sentence to your liking ...

with your professional mechanic experience -- one would think that you could easily blog about that and help people with their vehicles ... and there's lots of vehicle owners out there ... might want to fine-tune the topic to, perhaps, by brand, or vehicle-type, etc.

hope this helps to answer your question a bit ... all the best for every success, cheerio ...😊

You could choose products for children aged 6months - 2 years or something like that
Coolkidsproducts for example or Toddlerstoys or Qualitykidstoys and this way you could do 100's of product reviews helping learn about quality products for their children and you will make money from this as well

There is not enough around for plus (+) sizes regardless of gender. You can also consider a men's range and children (both sexes).

I do know that lingerie (women) is quite lucrative so being in a plus size range would be a bonus. Regardless specifics for men, I don't know at this stage. I do know that men's toiletries (shaving/beard grooming etc) is a lucrative niche also.

By the way, in case you are wondering if this is something I would consider - YES however I have other niches to keep myself occupied with at present.

1. Does this seem a viable option?

2. Is it too broad or not broad enough since it doesn't include say, vitamins or pre-workout supplements?

3. Should I get more specific and instead of looking at all sources of protein, focus on say vegan/organic sources?

You are your main domain on say protein (or health) and either go two ways forward:

Expand on Vitamins then another section on prre-workout supplements, then another on protein etc etc

or add sub-domains under your main domain, a bit like a pyramid triangle? (don't stress too much on this one as you will learn it as you will go through the training and everything will make much more sense to you on what I am taking about.

My niche would be about traveling, art and lifestyle. I'm currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. I used to live in the US but I still frequently travel to the UK. There are way more affiliate programs and online products available in the US and the UK than here in Thailand especially in art-related categories. Plus, it takes much longer time and higher tax to order products from aboard. In this case, do you think it's better to aim for audience in the countries where the products could be delivered easily without taxes? What do you think are the chances to drive traffic internationally with this niche?

I'd focus on your largest market but make sure you can take advantage of affiliate programs in that market (i.e. can the pay you if you're in another country). Since you're familiar with the US and UK, I'd say those are great markets to consider.

OK, maybe not out of thin air but it shows you how you can find your "targets", in case of this ad there's probably some new law that may affect this people and someone tries to make money by helping/ scaring them.

I have a passion for travel, especially for travel to historic places, and I could create content around that subject. Also, I can think of various things someone who travels would need. But it's harder for me to think of a specific single travel related product to focus on and to create my content around it. For instance, I can't get excited about suitcases or fanny packs. But I'd love to write about touring the USS Ironsides or organizing a trip to Mammoth Caves for a Boy Scout troop. Any suggestions on how I can join my passion to a specific product?

Maybe your niche could be traveling related. It needs to be something people will search for specifically.

You can make a website about “the basics of traveling” or something like that. But I would do some keyword research and find out what people are searching for related to traveling. Maybe “best way to travel.”

Then you can sell specific accessories in different posts on your website. But the more specific you are the better your website will be and it will be easier to build your brand.

Does that help?

It sounds like an excellent and unique niche, but as you said, you should consider the monetization possibilities too ...

USS Ironsides = historical books?

trip to Mammoth Caves = maybe specific equipment for exploring caves?

Here are a few tips that can help you to evaluate your niche ideas

Thanks for the link. You wrote, "To put it simply, you are looking for niches that can sell lots of different products or services that people really need or want to solve an existing problem. That, along with a laser-targeted website that provides the best genuine solution(s) to their problem(s), and you’ll start making some real super-affiliate commissions."

So, getting back to my interest in traveling, there are a lot of products and services travelers really need. To have a laser targeted website, should I only focus on one for of travel related product (say, suitcases)? Or should I focus more on a specific content (say, educational travel) and sell various products (luggage, tours, first aid kits, toiletry bags, etc.)?

I'd go for the second option because it gives you a more "colorful" monetization arsenal

Write about travel to historic places. As you said, you could write about that. Build your website around that. Then you can promote travel-related products. That includes hotel bookings, transportation, and yes, even suitcases and fancy packs.

I could... if you offer unusual trips and included your suggestions for updating my luggage. Eg. a day pack designed for very small framed women, that doesn't drag & pain my lower my back. - all part of the 'Wellness' aspects of travel

In the video, Kyle seemed to be encouraging us to select a product to focus on selling. And that does meet the definition of a niche: a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service. So a specific, product focused site like the NFL helmet snack bowls fits that model.

But if I can't get excited about a specific product as much as a specific type of content, would it be valid for me to focus on a subject matter and then figuring out what types of products would appeal to people interested in that subject matter?

i used to sell advertising first for radio and then magazines. I was selling advertisers access to the audience each magazine attracted. So in deciding which companies to call on, I would consider who might want to promote their products to the Christian women who read one magazine and to the home educators who read another magazine. I had many products to promote, not just one type. How is affiliate marketing different?

What aspect of the health/fitness niche do you want to help people with? There are literally 1,000's of niches within these categories and you will want to narrow it down.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Fishing is definitely the direction that you should head then. What aspect though, equipment for what type of fishing? What type of tackle? Fresh water, river, salt water, etc?

You can definitely narrow this down a little here, fishing is a vast niche.

Hi Kyle, Thank you for reply. It would be Fresh water/River, Equipment would be ? un-decided, Rod's/Reel's ? I feel that "worldwide " those could be targeted... As a Fisherman myself, if "guided" by Website, I personally would be interested, lets say buy a rod/reel from USA even though i am UK & visa/versa If that makes sense... Hi,
I was thinking about creating a niche around Exercice, training and well-being. I would like to help young adults who are out-of-shape, skinny or overweight feel good about themselves by offering them insights and products that helped me. By adopting these products and the way of life I'm suggesting they will build muscle, loose that extra weight or just feel good in their own shoes.

Basically, I would like to help young adults who feel insecure about themselves reach their full potential and get the most out of life.

Is it a good direction to go on? What do you guys think about it? Is it too general or too specific? What am I missing? Suggestions?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Good Luck.

That's a great idea and I like that you said "that helped me". That tells me you have actual experience and are invested in the niche. I'd say your focus is pretty spot on, young, out of shape and helping young insecure adults to feel good about themselves.

It's not too specific, limiting your options and I don't think it's too broad. I say go for it.

Calin, that is a great niche. There are so many people, including myself , who are always looking for ways to get this weight control thing down. What is good about this niche is that it can start as helping people and their potential, it can then include exercise and choosing the right program, add nutrition, add exercise gear etc. This is a wide niche, a good niche so i suggest you start in a small area and expand. This is because when you start in a small area, you will get results easier and build a trusting customer base. I've been writing in a personal blog (that all just sit as drafts) for a few months now and I'm realizing that I have a couple of topics in very different niches lol! I haven't decided which one to follow first, so I'm looking into affiliate programs first to help me decide. Some of my possible niches include:
1) Music: learn to read music, learn an instrument, learn to sing better, where to get good cheap beginner equipment, apps and software... (have found 10+ affiliate programs of interest)
2/2.5) Consumer Electronics: phone accessory reviews, new gadgets, how to use your phone, how to fix phone problems, 2.5 Electronics & the environment: electronics recycling, enviro-friendly products, health tech.... (have found 5 or more affiliate programs of interest)
3) Becoming self employed in an affordable way (British Columbia, Canada specific laws), starting an online business (have found somewhat similar affiliate programs of interest)

As you can see I'm going way too broad but really do have knowledge and the desire to share it on every aspect!!!

It balances out - don't worry too much about that. I had a site where I was earning literally pennies in commissions on the products (songs) but they were purchased much more frequently due to the lower price so yeah, it worked out just the same in the long run. Ultimately though even though you're targeting dance shoes, you know your audience is related to dance so there's nothing stopping you from later promoting more expensive stuff on the site, for example dance classes etc too.

Here’s a short list of things that help
Large ice packs
Valerian root as sleep aid
Merrell hiking shoes
WonderGel seat cushion
Zinus cushion mattress
Vitamin c to soften stools (no constipation for back pain people)
Cushy socks yuedge are favs
Treadmills for slow walking

Any jump out at you guys or hit a chord?

Freebies
Be kind and gentle with yourself
Practice gratitude and notice small wonders
Minimize the pain mentally
Breathe normally and try to walk without limping
Don’t give energy to pain by complaining or talking about it
Don’t practice self pity
Don’t be a victim
Remember life can still be good even when your in pain
Don’t maximize problems
Focus and wildly celebrate on any improvements
Fully Rely On God
Transfer the weight of your expectations and problems to God
Be strong enough to hope to get better but be ok if you don’t
Don’t compare yourself to nonsufferers that’s not fair
Quit the addiction cycle , coping is not solving
Tune in with your Maker - This doesn’t surprise Him

I’ve lots more freebies than monitization ideas.

Yeah, focus on just one product that you like to start with. One of my sites is about this topic and I suffer chronic back pain.

The site is a great example of what you can do with one product. And a pretty nice example niche site. It's not updated and hasn't been worked on for a long time, but you can see it here.. TherapyBoy.com as an example.

The product I found and like is called the Invertabelt. But you could use foam rollers, therapy balls, inversion tables, digital training products, books, etc..

Try to focus on one helpful product. You can always add helpful content about the free therapeutic ways to help people. But to start a business related site, focus on one helpful product for now and market that.

My Invertabelt review got the owners attention and I can easily add this to the site as a physical product (eCommerce) vs. an Amazon affiliate. So a lot of things can develop from finding the right product.

Hope that helps,
Todd

She got a lot of things at her baby shower but there's always some little things you really really need but nobody thinks to get so I was thinking about a website where people that don't have a lot of money can either swap each other baby items like one person had something that another person needed and vice versa, they could swap for a small fee or they could just outright buy what they needed from someone with that item. All items would have to be priced to make sure the seating was fair financial wise. What do y'all think? Too hard? Not doable?

I would stick to one Niche and relevant services / products.
Therefore one site for passive income and another for the health products.
However you should stick to one and don't get ahead of yourself.
It takes a lot of work to get a website up and running and actually making money from it so as I said - best stick to one.

Ric - i would take each of those, health products, passive income and dieting as sepereate niches - even narrow them down for that.
Health products covers avery broad topic, who are you trying to help.
if you say everyone then you will tlk to no one.
imagine all of yuor friends in a room together - can you talk to all of them about the same topic or do you have to modify it for some and change it for others - it i exactly the same for your site, talk to one niche - group of people who are interested in getting the same problems solved.
you can always add another small niche after you have setup the initial niche.
so i would go back and see which one of those topics you are really interested in and see if you can find an area of that topic you want to help people with and concentrate on that.
Good luck

I have an idea for my Niche, I have been interested in the depletion of nutrients in our soil due to over farming and the use of pesticides, this is a recognised fact, which has created more interest in Organically grown products, these we are seeing more of on our supermarket shelves. But it’s the soil they are grown in that is nutrient deficient, therefore they are not in the soil they cannot be in the plant that’s grown in the soil. If we search for a product that would replace these lost minerals we find that most of them are metallic minerals and my understanding is that our bodies require plant derived minerals, these are grown in the plant and consequently more easily absorbed by our bodies. So the search begins.

Hi paan,

There's always something you can connect your niche with. I don't know what you had in mind as a more abstract niche, but you could promote books about your niche, or e-courses, or subscriptions or art work that's related to the niche, or printables, or tools.

It depends on what your niche is. But there are products about anything and everything. Sometimes you just need to think outside the box.

All affiliate programs are associated with particular products. And all products must have some objective reality. You cannot have a product that is totally abstract. Even an abstract philosophical concept must be sold in the form of an e-book. The e-book becomes the product.

Hi Kyle,Please let me know if you think my concept would work. My niche is dressage riders. Dressage is a subset of horse riding in general. I would call my website Working Dressage Riders. com which narrows things even more. I say "working" dressage riders because I'm interested in talking about the role of a good horse and rider beyond performance in a horseshow. I already have a year's worth of articles pertaining to the preparation of a good working dressage horse. This is the beginning training of a young horse on the ground, or in-hand training. I have a lot of experience with this as I do the whole area of dressage. I've already thought of articles having to do with schooling when one doesn't have a trainer, schooling a stallion when you're 71 years old (like I am), problems associated when working alone with a horse such as trying to get the bit in when he won't open his mouth, etc. Accessories which go with my niche would include bridles, saddles, bits, pads, boots, rider clothing, spurs, etc. I don't know what affiliate programs would be associated with this, however. I'd have to research it. What do you think?

Hi! So, I know the direction i want to go in, but I'm not sure how specific I should get. I'd like my website to be targeted toward vegan moms. Should I choose just one aspect of it, such as vegan nipple cream, or vegan infant formula? Or could I choose something more broad?
Reply
C-Lab Premium
The more specific, the better. This is because you'll face less competition as well as increasing the likely hood that people who visit your site will be looking for exactly what you're promoting. Perhaps you could create multiple sites, one for each of the subniche contained within the broader context of vegan mom's. I bet mom's of different ethnicities, ages, areas, and other things will have varying interests even within that one niche. You mentioned two sub niches already, that seems like two sites worth of valuable content to me!

I think vegan moms is specific enough. If you write about vegan infant formula, you'll be locked into that for YEARS. "Vegan mom" gives you enough room to grow in the future, but it's still a very specific audience.

Vegan infant formula COULD be a great website too. But you really need a passion for that specific topic to make it work!

One of my long term goals is to be an AODA Counselor as I have been through hell and back -like a lot of others- but I am looking to give back. Recovery/Rehabilitation is something that is going to be a lifetime "affair".. so after all that what I am looking for is an idea as to which way to go? Or am I starting in the right place with TREATMENT being my niche? If that makes sense..THANKS in advance!

could you blog about your journey? if it is not too painful why not empathise with other addicts with your journey - starting with your want to give up and flowing to your recovery and continuing journey with its highs and lows.
you could try to 'recruit' others who want to recover and map their journeys to give other some inspiration to also seek recovery?
how do you monetise it? don't know - councelling services? books? self help programs?
all of those you could review.
good luck with your journey online Leya .

oh my gosh! Thanks so much for your help! That actually is a GREAT idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that!? I actually have dabbled in motivational speaking or "telling your story" at fundraisers. That was actually what helped me to stay on the correct path after my battle with addiction and the beginning of my "recovery road.." I have actually even thought about writing an autobiography at some point in time as I would like to think that it is something that can just give others hope, encouragement, or just that extra motivation that can be needed - single, struggling mothers FOREMOST, as that is what I am all to familiar with. So AGAIN, THANKS!! you have given me a little boost here as this just may be exactly what I have been waiting to find.. this website, this niche to carry out my goals of helping others who feel hopeless. I truly DO CARE! Just because..

This is what I would do (probably) I would commit some time ( days for sure, or a week or two) and do nothing but google everything I could think of related to recovery. I would sit down with a notebook and start by googling addiction recovery. Then I would start filtering through the results on the first few pages, and I would look for related topics on the bottom of the google search results and click through them. I call this research! I would be making notes and thinking about how I could fit myself in, and how i could narrow the niche down to some one part of the process that interest me the most. I would do all of that, because I Know the most common thing is to feel pressured, start a website, get overwhelmed, and then see other niches or sub niches we think or know we should have started with. And before I started I would write a date that I could not go beyond without starting my domain name and site so that I wouldn't spend the rest of my life deciding.....

I really wish you the best with it Leya, it sometimes rakes a little nudge to remind you.
As Mike says have a look at what is out there.
if you google it and ads come up then you know it is a niche worthy of people spending money on.
maybe to learn the business system pick something else easier to blog about, learn the system and then create your passion site.
it is just you might get caught up in emotion of through not being all the way through the course have to go back and alter bits.
You could use a siterubix one for this - and use them as test sites for testing ideas.
but plan out your site as far as you can- break it into large areas - categories- and see what keywords you can come up with.
I hope a lot of addicts will thank you for your hard work in the future.
good luck

Great video. Once I began to understand a little more about the business it wasn't hard for me to decide on a Niche. (This is not a good word for a southern boy like me) :) I absolutely love any type of power tool or equipment especially how they contribute to the building industry. My Niche will be related to power equipment / tools.

Many people pronounce it different, some say nitch, others say neesh. Just depends on where you are form lol.

Power tools could be a direction you could head, but I would keep to a specific type of power tool or a certain trade. You just don't want to be too broad with that.

I have identified a 3-part structure for managing niches. Capture, Expand, and Narrow. That is, first capture the area or activity of what might be my main passion. Then, expand that idea over a range of goods and services identified with that passion; and lastly, narrow down that field of goods and/or services to be applied per website or websites. The idea is to create a wide spectrum of audience or client appeal over several websites.
Reply
realityshifter Premium
An alternative paradigm would be to create sub-niches within a niche. Then build a specific website per specific sub-niche. That way, you are actually catering to a niche with several websites. Good to try if you can manage the workload of simultaneously developing several websites. The alternative will be to do it one at a time.
Reply
toddmatthews Premium
I agree. I did this for one of my niches because it was beyond broad and I've seen several others on here with the same overall niche as me, but have narrowed down to the sub-niche category. Not just that, you can also build a network with those in the same niche as you but are in different or even at times the same sub-niche.

Hi Guys,I have two niche Ideas.

1 - Since I like sci-fi movies, I was thinking about some "nerd" niche, because it's something I could write about and maybe i could place some product like gadgets or live figures.

2 - I was thinking also a "programmer" niche, that is the branch in which i work, maybe I could put some article to help programmers in some problems and put affiliate links of software to make affiliate marketing.

What do you think?

I have a few niche ideas, just need to choose 1 to start:

1. Keto supplements/food/advice- maybe a supplement review site? Cookbook reviews? General advice/keto discussion? I've been keto for a few months and totally credit the internet for my success. I'd love to add to the keto community online.
2. Pilates- just got into reformer pilates and love it. I could promote reformers, workout gear, home videos, etc.
3. Productivity for remote workers- I'm into productivity in general, and with the amount of people choosing to work from home/remotely I think this could be a cool niche to get into.

Now only to choose which one comes first! I'd love to hear what you all think:)

Here is How to Find a Profitable Niche to Sell on ClickBank

Go to the Clickbank Marketplace SIGN UP FOR A FREE CLICKBANK ACCOUNT IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE
Then Go to the Clickbank Marketplace and search for any niche. For instance Diabetes.

Sort results by gravity you will see this is
a site with the gravity of over 90

Use Gravity

The gravity number is a visible picture to find what is selling
and what is not selling. Gravity score indicates is that those various affiliates are marketing the merchandise.

Each moment a different affiliate sells a product within a specified period, a point is added to gravity. So If someone sells 200 products or 500 products, it still only counts as one point.

So imagine, when a product has been sold actively by more than 200 persons, it is a great niche – one with a lot of profit potential.

Look for products with a gravity of over 30.

Typically there will be between 30 and 80 products on Clickbank with those type of gravity. So choose the highest gravity it is continuously a great indication that the niche is converting and that niche product is doing well.

(if you want to see the complete article visit my profile hope this helps)

Don't Stick

You should not only stick with Clickbank which isn’t the only tool around. There other affiliate networks, such as......

I'm a fan of choosing niches I love and are also ones that people are actively searching for. Think about what you have in common to what people might be interested in. Something like apparel is always a good one, but specialize in a specific type, like athletic or business casual.

If your niche is fitness, perhaps try targeting a specific population, like older or younger adults, men or women, or bodybuilders.

Yeah, that is a great idea Todd. You always want to narrow your niche down to something more specific. It allows you to establish expertise and authority within the given niche with much more efficiency (as it is more targeted).

Do you think wine would be a good niche? Like promoting different online wine clubs? Is this an area with good affiliate profit margins?

Also, is the idea to start with one niche and then expand into others? I have lots of ideas for niches that I think my audience would like but I'm guessing starting with lots of different ones might get overwhelming?

And you can "test" it further with these tips Expanding into more niches is a common practice, but is recommended to have different sites for different niches. Otherwise it could be confusing both for readers and search engines

Of course Amy! Please check this out https://www.winemag.com/, one of the sites about wine that is highly ranked. Yes, you will get overwhelmed working on various niches. I think wine is a potential niche but I believe it's great if you could niche down to a specific aspect/product of wine. There are a lot of affiliate programs on wine. Just type "wine affiliate" in Google search.

You're right that you only need one niche built on one site to be successful. You may expand the niche later covering related products or create a totally new site with a new niche. When starting out, it's important to focus on one niche first.

Hope that helps.

Helpppp!!! So part of the reason I decided to join was to get insight on how to pick a niche... when I visit my webpage and business its more of an informative site. I vision a wide spread of topics being discussed, different products being advertised and sold, and of course me sharing my DIY crafts, t-shirts, couponing deal etc. I don’t know where to start with even finding a niche. I have had a few businesses that I either didn’t produce money like I thought, became a job I dreaded to do, did not know how to market myself, or I simply got bored with. I just do not know where to start...

I feel you, it can be overwhelming at times.
Let's see if I can help by using one of my own niches as an example.
I love music in general. But that is too broad.
What about music? Listening to it? Reviewing it? Composing it? Performing it? What about equipment or culture or education?
Hmm. that's a lot of options.
I play 4 different instruments but I don't want to create a site about drums, bass, piano, and guitar. Most people don't play that many instruments and would not be intersted in all those things.
So I decided to pick one: guitars. Ok, well what about guitars?
So I decided on another sub-niche: Education.
I combined them and got to the "guitar education" niche.
Now I can focus on writing blog posts about guitar education and I can ignore a great many other things that may serve to only confuse my direction more.
So instead of making one site dedicated to everything music, I can now create multiple sites.
Guitar education, guitar equipment, guitar culture, guitar history, etc...
I can then repeat this process with the other 3 instruments I'm familiar with.
Bass education, Piano education, Drumming education.
Bass equipment, Piano equipment, drumming equipment etc...
With each site I can focus my efforts on creating content that will reach the most people who are interested in that specific "sub-genre" of music. These niches allow me to market products and services to the people who are most likely to want them: people who search for those specific things. This is where keywords come in. You want to find a wording your content such that it reaches the most people, giving you the most oppertunites to help readers and provide value. This increases trust in your brand and also increases the number of chances you have to turn site visitors into loyal, repeat customers.

I know this was a long winded explanation, but I hope it helps, even a little bit.
Reply
Thank you it has helped with the insight on how I need to look at it... so I will now try to focus on not only my niche but what could I could do to show off my niche and maybe utilize multiple sites in the future instead of cluttering everything into one site.

Christina,
Take a deep breath and know that you have picked a good niche already in the DIY crafts and subjects. Imagine having both informational products and real (physical) products that you can sell to schools and craft stores. Also, on your site, you can have some affiliate links to craft supply providers that can generate some motivation (in cash form) to expanding. So, not knowing a lot about you, do you have a few articles that you could write about various DIY crafts? A little late now, but creating new and unique halloween costumes would have been a big option.

I totally understand Christina. I have several companies that I have become an affiliate for their product(s) but as I am reading these insightful posts and questions from our members, a niche unrelated is coming to my mind., What do I think I could write the live long day about? DOGS. So I think I will be looking up products that dog owners could benefit from that I could be an affiliate. I did not plan on this outcome, I have a passion for several things, but things helping dogs and dog owners has somehow risen to the front of my mind. And I think it is because I would feel comfortable researching, reading, writing, and sharing products for purchase for dogs and their owners. WOW. i may have shocked myself. Any suggestions? I could look ion Google trending to see what people are interested in. I could type in a search for affiliate products for dogs and dog owners. Last time I viewed Click Bank there was at least one product. So onward I go.... my new niche....Thank you everyone for your contributions.

OK. Let me try to clarify for myself on all of this....
There are two approaches - one is based on products and the other promoting WA.
There are two approaches to doing a product type niche - one is based on the things you are interested in (that may or may not be a "hot topic" of interest OR to learn about a niche that in fact is identified as something that people are PROVEN to be buying into and learning and then educating yourself about that area of products. Wouldn't it be better to go with an area that is "selling" and learn about it than to pursue an obscure concept that may not be anywhere near as popular as sports fan products as the example given?? I have heard other people say - "if it makes me money, i can learn to love it!"
Another question: As "the internet grows to 4 billion plus people", most of them are speakers of foreign languages as the english speakers are fairly much covered already. Right? So it begs to be asked how to focus the website then -- Only on the areas of the world with traffic that has money and speaks english. It is actually a smaller cache of people in proportion. Is there a way within WA that allows you scale into the foreign speaking markets?? Can you have a multi language website that translates itself also? Just wondering if that can be done.

Hi Don
The internet is growing so rapidly it is truly incredible as more and more companies turn to online to sell their products
The most used language in the world is English and always will be and the opportunities to make a successful online business have never been more worth it and this potential keeps growing due to the trends over the world.
Having product reviews and niche marketing is huge and I hope this better clarifies what you are going to do
I suggest you choose something you enjoy or a product you have always wanted to sell or learn more about and create a niche around this
As you move through the training step by step things will become clearer on how it all works being a premium member here in WA
Wishing you all the best

My opinion would be that you would be better off using the Spanish words if that's what people will be typing in.

I think the only time when Google may automatically translate it, is if you have installed the Google Translate Plugin on your site, but I stand to be corrected if this is not the case.

Again, I would go with using Spanish words rather if that is the keyword you are targeting.

Let me know if you need further assistance via private message.

HI if you want to find a good niche I think we need to focus on people and what they are looking for but also you have to stay away from the competition because the risk is to struggle with 100 of sites like yours; at the same time when you make a reseach based on your interest, your passions the risk is to find a tiny audience not much responsive and that's bad too. It's very difficoult to make a choice. Aslo I do not know how I can do this kind of research ... what are the tools and the process to be applied to make this research possible? .. what do you think about it? Make sense?

I understand what you're saying but you should never be afraid of competition. If there are100 other sites about the Niche you are interested in, you just need to do it better then the others. Research today is easier then ever, you have Bing, Google and others available to you. Do searches on your competition, find out what they do and work on what you can do better. Jim

I want to reach out to as many people as possible with my core message where I can help people understand themselves better and from that change their view on life, themselves, and other people. This applies to the whole world and is not a niche.

What if your basic product/service is not a confined niche, but you market it to different niches with different needs prior to the main product/service? As a random example, everybody uses shoes, and so you can sell shoes to everybody in all variations, but when you market it, you focus on one niche at the time?

If you focus on one single product for one single niche, the market is quite narrow when it comes to potential reach.

Within my topic, my expertise is to help people stop judging themselves and others, to help them see exactly why we as homo sapiens think, feel, act, and react the way we do. This knowledge has changed my life completely, and it took me a long time to study different fields of science and put the pieces together to eventually implement it into my own life. This knowledge applies to everybody, not only specific groups of people. I cured myself in less than a minute after decades suffering from PTSD - but I don't want to share this only with people who suffer from PTSD, because it applies to everybody.

Does anyone have a strategic input on this? Do we HAVE TO focus on ONE niche product/service for ONE niche market? Or could it be enough to MARKET to segmented niches and bring content to each of them? Maybe my issue is that I have my own product that I want to create and sell, and have affiliate marketing as a side gig to it...My core issue is not to create money through affiliate links but to learn how to market, drive traffic, and create leads/sales for my product.

Thank you :))

I would create a website about you and promote yourself as an expert in personal development. Then you just start by targeting one specific group of people who you believe to be the ones you can reach initially that will help you expand your influence. (bloggers who can benefit from a personal development strategy which is proven to work because you start gathering testimonials from people who tried out what you offer.)

Anyway, I am interested in what your strategy is because I work on a personal development blog myself. As you may or may not know that is a gigantic industry and getting other people to notice you will take time.

You can start by using any niche so that you will be trying things out, gaining valuable lessons learned, and then have even more knowledge about affiliate marketing to share with your readers.

Basically, it's what I am doing except that I use a domain business instead of my own name.

Thank you @cramervod ...i do follow your thoughts, and after considering further, I decided to start out with a niche within the Law of Attraction field. Yes, there is a lot of 'competition' out there on the personal development side, which is good. It means that there's a huge market. And also, i agree with you that it takes time to build a name. Currently, I have only started posting videos on my Facebook profile with some topics that involve my expertise without revealing it all...just to test the field :)

What area are you focused on within the Personal Development field? If there are a few of us, we could actually help each other build authority through introduction, interviews, references and so on... Special for the personal development industry is that 'competitors' are not really competing at all, but rather promoting each other and collaborating to bring awareness. I love that :)

The angle that I have taken on is "recovering from a difficult past" and "not living up to your full potential". My story is one that involves alcohol addiction which stemmed from many underlying problems where I was feeling inferior, worthless, and deprived of many things.

I have spent a considerable amount of time working on gathering information but still experience some areas where I often feel stuck and unsure of what to do next. I blog about a lot of experiences I have had, where I am going, and where it will lead to once I have put the time and effort into following through with the promises I make myself.

We are in agreement on working with others to help our own interests. I am completely open to working on things and to gain more knowledge while doing so. I am following you now and if you follow back you can check out my site under the "follow me on" section which is located at the bottom right side of my profile page.

i would like to have feedback from others regarding a possible niche for myself. I have always enjoyed music/playing musical instruments. As an example, I am self-taught in playing flute and something that I enjoy doing. It is a great way for me to relieve stress. I learned to play flute by purchasing how to books and videos from e-bay as well as videos. I was determined and spent many hours practicing/playing because I was determined to learn. I am thinking about self-taught instructions on how to play various instruments. Maybe start with playing piano or guitar? What are some feelings on this niche from others? Many thanks in advance!

How to play a certain musical instrument sounds like a great idea for a niche. You might want to consider which instrument you would like to teach others to play the most, and start with that one. Maybe promote the best book(s) that you used or even the actual instrument itself.

Hi. I think it sounds like a fantastic website. Any Niche you choose will need to be one you will be able to write heaps about . By not restricting your blogs to just flutes will mean you will find a lot of material to post on your website, plus you'll be able to construct lots of reviews. A Niche needs to be broad enough so that it gives you enough information and narrow enough so that you can control it . Jim

Good to see someone else doing a similar website to me. I play the flute too. :-) I don't know about you but my issue is recommending instruments. I am a big believer in instruments singing to you so for me I could not recommend one instrument over another as it's very much a personal choice.

bella2018 Premium
I was thinking about something like"learning to play piano" or "learning to play guitar". Even though I don't play either instrument, I feel many people would be interested in learning to play either. What are your thoughts? Many thanks for your input. It is greatly appreciated.

Choosing a niche is proving to be a bit overwhelming for me. Though I think I have an idea and would love some input from others.
The niche I was thinking of is "clothing for dogs and cats".
As a major animal lover I think this would be really fun but I am not too sure how this would work. What do you think?
Reply
adreyna Premium
Since it's something that you're real interested in, it sounds like a niche that you could work with. You might want to do a "clothing for animals" site and choose one (dog or cat) to start with. Once you create quality content on the first animal, you could eventually add the other one.

damn, why didnt i think of that, very narrowed down

I like the idea and agree cat and dog clothing could each be their own niche. Maybe you will end up with a website for each!

i had this little niche idea that i would enjoy to go down due to my friends and i just enjoying playing cards and how he always wants to get a new unique pack. So i'm thinking of basing my first website around unique cards and how easy it is to learn simple tricks. However, i just keep doubting if it is a good one. :s this hurst my brain.

Don't get overwhelmed by all this information; I know it's a lot to take in, especially if you are brand new to this. Once you get into it and start working, everything that seems complicated now will be so simple to you in the future.

I have started on 5 or 6 different niche ideas and after working on some of them I have finally figured out a plan. It just takes time and patience. I have faith you'll be successful!

Thanks for the encouragement. Hope you achieve your goals too.

So. I love books and I'm thinking books for my website. Either audible, Kindle or paperback should people wish to go down that way. I guess in time I could also focus on eBook devices too. However, I'm thinking that this might be a pretty boring website as I would probably be writing loads of book reviews. Also, is books too broad and should I be breaking it down by format/genre?
Reply
Dale123 Premium
You should definitely break it down as you suggested, but also on the boring front - it will only be boring to people not interested in books. People with an interest in books will surely find your website very useful :)

Well, after giving it some thought I've decided to do a website about learning to play the Ukulele. I've been playing for a year, and I might as well do a website on something I wish to become expert in and find out about. Taking earning and learning to a new level :-)

I am passionate about sewing and animals. I know, both are broad subjects! I cringe at all the wrong info online about certain animal care that people are following! Seems like most sites are just copy and pasting the same incorrect info and newbies have no clue and follow blindly. It infuriates me to know so many animals are being harmed by this. Maybe I can turn that into my first niche.

Just do it. Don't think so much about it. Your first website will be like learning to ride a bicycle. The type of your first bicycle does not matter that much. It is important to learn to ropes first. There will be more challenges ahead.

Thanks! I just fell off the bike and skinned my pride though. Now I remember why I gave up making a website all those years ago

Hello I really enjoyed the niche video thank you. So my passion is writing and am interested in health, freedom like financial and relationship and wellness in general. How do I come up with a niche with all these. I was thinking Health Freedom and Wellness can be a niche. What do you think? I am open for all correction, advice and help thank you. And am so excited!

I agree, I would narrow down your niche here to ONE of these categories, and then narrow it down even further to an aspect of that broader category.

I have started in a niche but I have loss my momentum. I really would like to select a niche that has to do with discipleship. Promoting Christian literature, training materials, devotionals, dvd's, christian music, etc. This is my real passion. My first goal is to help others find direction for their life that is meaningful. To be complete the spiritual aspect of life must be addressed. Do I have the possibility of being helpful first and make a little money also? I only want to supplement my retirement income. Making money is not my first priority. In your opinion, can I be successful here?
Thank you for your wonderful training. I love it.
God bless

Hi Lee, I have just chosen my niche and don't know if it will be good or not, but my opinion on your niche idea as a brother in Christ, I don't see how you can go wrong. I believe when we put others needs ahead of our own, God will take care of our needs for us. If you need to make a little money and you are doing what God called you to do, then he will provide the money you need. Just my opinion. God bless you in your efforts.

No matter what niche you are in idea of BEING HELPFUL FIRST is going to be the key to making money.

Christian or not, when it comes to niches, people use the web to get questions answered and solve problems which can turn into buying products.

Hi I am a lighting technician but my wife who is a French teacher who loves and knows more about Cosmetics than most people I know, so I want to use this as my Niche. Do you think that this will work. I think it is different but I like a challenge.

Sure, you can head in any direction. Unless your wife is going to be in full control of the content/website, I would recommend choosing something that you are passionate about versus her (or you could both build websites). A niche can be anything.

I'm into singing and googled a little bit. Without searching too long, I typed affiliate programs + Learn to sing from the heart which I found an affiliate program for it. The question is, do I pick a niche based on what my heart is telling me or what is trending and more profitable?

Hi Richard
I am also a Singer and passionate about music
I would suggest if you are going to do a niche on singing, pick your genre and focus on this however before you decide, have a think about how you will monetize this niche further down the track once you have built a solid foundation
Are a lot of people going to visit your site?
Are you going to have products to sell or services to sell?
These types of things need to be considered and I hope this helps

Good question. IMO a balance of both would be nice but since you are just learning why not go for what your heart is into? You can always try something new later when you are more experienced. Besides, I'm sure there are millions of people out there that want to improve their vocals and if you can provide something like that through the internet then you've found a winner. Best of good fortune to you.

Thanks a lot @vickic3. That's what I'm what I'm getting to consideration now and it's actually slowing me down at the moment. I want to get my niche finalized before I move on to the Website creation training. This is when it gets tricky.

Appreciate it @tslazyk5894. I'm not sure if you see my reply to vickic3, but I mentioned there that this is when it gets tricky. I don't want to move on to the website creation training until I have a niche that I'm happy about, because I started thinking if I could actually have enough knowledge and expertise when it comes to creating content and make it a winner. Singing is very broad and I'm trying to find a way to narrow it down to be more specific. I was considering "How to learn to sing from the heart", but is this even a niche? I'd appreciate some input. Thanks again.

I know it's best to focus on one niche only but I can't help but to have two since I am already involved with affiliate marketing. My one niche is going to be affiliate marketing/internet marketing and the other will be some form of survival supply, not all of them but a certain segment I have yet to decide on. I'm looking right now.

It's perfectly okay to have more than one niche, it's just better to start with one. It takes a while to build up your site, write quality content and establish credibility as an authority website. Once your first site becomes productive it will be fine to start another one.

Hi everyone, the niche that i have chosen is Football (Soccer) kits. The only thing I'm a little unsure on is the affiliate program search into google. Do I have to use the websites that come up in this search or can I use any website that sells Football kits?

Literally speaking you can use any affiliate platform just be sure to evaluate them individually

So just to clarify if I was to advertise Liverpool FC shirts on my website then i would join the Liverpool FC affiliate programme? Thanks for the help!
Reply

Yes something like that ...

But you probably won't find a "Liverpool FC shirts" affiliate program ....

You'll have to make your own research to find relevant affiliate platforms and/or products that are focusing on soccer kits

Is it a taboo blogging using our own names as our domain names? My dream niche seems to be triangular, too: Musical Intelligence Solution, Health Wealth RelationShip, Musical Instruments & Musical Toys - if I want to follow my passion. But, in this case I have to put the importance to support my family first. I have tried selling eproducts with the famous seems awkward system/platform nearly everybody is using them and boasting their success on youtube, but I am still zero minus all of those costs and quite a few upsell sort of scams? I hope this WA is my last stop in search of a helping success better living big multi background netizen family. (",)

its a great lesson but am still kind of confuse. Am interested in beauty/fitness. Do i have to get amazon or the company to approve me before getting my niche link up to their site? or do i just go on with it and make all the description on the Niche.

what exactly is the difference between a niche and a website? please i need a very simple explanatory answers all. thank you
Reply
JJones352 Premium
A niche is simply the subject you are going to focus on. In your case it may be beauty or fitness.
Your website is place where you inform the world on specific topics within your niche. For example, specific make up if in the beauty niche.
You do not need an amazon account before your start your site. In fact, I advise to wait until you have a few posts on your site.
One thing with Amazon affiliate program is that they require 3 sales in 1st 6 months.
In the beauty and fitness niches, there are many affiliate programs beyond amazon. The training will guide you accordingly.
Good luck. Wishing you much success.

This was a great video - so I definitely was thinking about focusing on "making money online" and "digital products" niche - even before I got to the end of the niche video.

Would you still recommend only doing the Affiliate Bootcamp training (and NOT doing the Online Entrepreneur Certification training), even if you want to sell other products in addition to just WA?
Reply
adreyna Premium
If you want to sell other products in addition to promoting WA, you will want to go through the OEC training as well because you are still looking at two websites. You will want to choose the one that you're most passionate about and start with that one first. You can always add the other later after the first one is completed and doing well.
