What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

As a noobie in the online business industry choosing a niche could be really overwhelming.

I would like to ask the people who had already gone through this, how did you choose an exact niche? I am sure that you, just like everybody else, have had at least a couple of ideas. How did you make the choice between any one of them? Because for me right now every idea seems like a good one, while it also seems like a bad one (due to big competition on the market for instance)...

I am thinking of making a blog about fashion or sports and put the links of the products there, but the competition is too high and I will probably need to narrow the niche down to a specific category.
Another idea that I am seriously considering is billiard accessories? Do you guys think there is potential in there? There is a chance for high ticket sales in this category as well.

What makes an affiliate website stands out from a original seller website? Aren`t they all using the same online marketing methods?

I am sure I will get some nice answers, so THANK YOU guys in advance for the help and support! I am really enjoying this community.

That shouldn’t be a problem. Are you most passionate about what? Do you think you are going to write good reviews about what topic? Generally speaking, check the searches and competition to know how big the market is (and how profitable the niche is) for the product you are trying to blog about, always following the WA training. Stop overthinking your niche, overcome the analysis paralysis moving on...

Hi Teodor7,

Choosing a niche can be overwhelming, BUT IT'S NOT.

Keep it simple - choose a PASSION you have such as -

Health
Cuisine
Gardening
Weight Training
Running
Nutrition
D.I.Y.
even....bringing up kids...

The major niche headings go on...

We all have a passion. Once you've found a major niche, then just simply go in a specific area of that major niche until you really get to an area that you -

1) Want to learn more about

2). Want to pass that knowledge onto others

3). And this is the SIMPLE ONE - WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

Kind regards,

Hey Kyle and WA Community,
If I wanted to choose an aspect of travel or the travel industry how would you narrow that down to a specific niche? With travel there really isn't anything to sell other than all the travel preparation type of products...like luggage, power banks, etc. How would I incorporate my Network Marketing Travel Business in with an affiliate website or would the network marketing component simply be a link on the site while I'm promoting other travel related products?

Seneca once said...

“It takes you more time to solve a problem than to set it.”

Keyword research allows you to eliminate the time to see the problem. What problem did you have and how did you find the solution for it?

Was the solution lasting and did it have HUGE BENEFITS for you? If so, you became content.

4 billion online searchers want contentment. Sell your contentment.

I think my problem is less in identifying passions I have, and more about how I would actually find a way to monetize them through affiliate programs as they don't really seem related to products at all.

For over ten years I've actually run a Ren Faire event entertaining people with legends of dragons for example, something that has interested me since I was a kid. That's not really a 'category', though. Similarly, I enjoy writing and teaching others how to do it (I actually taught this at the university level during my graduate school program), but that's also removed from the 'material/monetize' world to me.

Does anyone have any advice for someone in my kind of situation, where you know your passions but not how to connect them into something productive?
Reply

Hello there I would say as long as you can help people learn what you know and have a passion about, you can monetize it.
Reply
MrJon1980 Premium
I agree with PastorDre. But I would add this..Since the first few months is designed to help you build first a website and a trusted platform. Your first focus should be sharing what you know with people. Get them to your site by not selling them anything at all. Just bring them there by showing them you can provide the information they seek. That way, you are going to get noticed by a lot of people. At that point, you will find a way to monetize. You could start selling more in-depth books?

From watching this video, I understand what a niche is...What I am struggling a bit with is once I have thought of a few ideas for my niche, what exactly should my knowledge base of that niche entail? I understand that I don't need to be an expert, but should I have more than just basic knowledge of my niche in order to begin the adventure?

For instance...I am a HUGE Boston Bruins fan! If I were to start off with a niche involving my favorite NHL Hockey team, what should I start with? Products, like clothing or memorabilia? Or should I focus on a different interest like Essential oils/Aromatherapy?

Hi - remember, you will be writing a lot of articles on your chosen niche. Which one would you most enjoy writing about, and would be able to find enough of interest to say about it for the foreseeable future?

Another thing to consider is that until you join and are accepted by an affiliate program for Boston Bruins merchandise, you wouldn't be able to use their logo or other images, as they will be trademarked and copyrighted.

I think we all struggle with all these factors. I don't think you have to be an expert on what you are showcasing. I think I am going to start with either one item, or one category and learn what I can about that one theme, and then move on to another, then another; so I don't have to spread myself too thin.

My advice to you would be to take a look into your recent purchases - what have you recently bought related to your interests? Could you build a niche around those purchases (the answer is likely yes!)

I have two primary passions - BBQ and promoting self-reliance through self employment. Neither is bigger than the other.

Starting with BBQ based on my current knowledge base will would provide me lots of original content for blogs, videos, etc. (Plus I already have a Go Daddy domain for this.)

And believe me, when people find out they can not only have but make high end restaurant quality food themselves, there's a sense of pride and accomplishment that goes along with it. Which, in my estimation improves people's quality of life immensely.

The top ranked BBQ site's affiliate has most of the products I want to promote. They are high ticket items that require fewer sales to generate a bit more money.

The thing is that these are one-time sales and most equipment will last years so unless I find a subscription service for say, meats or something, residual sale of current customers will be nearly zero and reorders few. So true passive income would be harder to come by.

Which brings me to self reliance through self employment.

Here, I have a chance to actually improve people's lives while also possibly gaining true passive income through recurring or membership purchases.

I am intrigued by the WA affiliate possiblilty. That opportunity and the direct training look incredible.

I do wonder about the level of internal competition there is. Not only with other members but WA itself as obviously, you guys promote this as well.

So I'm somewhat confused.

As for questions -

No matter what niche somebody picks is there an optimum number of affiliate programs to join? Is it possible to join too many?

Thoughts about my two options?

Sorry this was so long. All feedback welcome.

Thanks!

I haven't noticed any internal competition as far as promoting the WA affiliate program. Everything is very supportive whichever way you go. There are some pretty creating ways to promote WA from what I've seen. :)
As far as number of affiliate programs, I'd start small and focus on building your content. Some affiliate programs will look at your site and decide if they want you promoting their product based on the quality and quantity of your content.
Content first, affiliate programs second. It's pretty easy to become an Amazon affiliate though. There is a requirement of 3 sales within 180 days so have your site ready to promote when you join this one.
Reply
jkalsbeck Premium
Thanks for the input, Palatia.

When I say competition I'm not talking people being competitive in an adversarial way with each other it's more about the numbers of people within WA promoting via an affiliate site. (In case I was unclear)

So for now, you're saying don't sign up with an affiliate program until I've been going for a while?

I'm new too. So I'm not sure if I can help but maybe get you thinking I guess. I'll only ask 3 questions to start.

Do you have practical or applied experience in those areas? (Not that you need any but sometimes it gives you ideas.)
What do you search for constantly within those subjects?
What do you see as opportunities in those niches?
Reply
I liked the training on niches. I have not taken the plunge to the paid WA opportunity because I have some concerns. In a previous training, I learned that a niche is probably the most important aspect of where you go with your business. I was told you have to try to get a niche where there is not too much competition and there is at least some demand. I also learned that once you get that niche you have to try to optimize your site so it will appear as high as possible in search engines. I know the training says there are more than 4 billion people online and I believe it but there is also an enormous amount of web sites competing for their money. My point, if your website never gets a hit, you will never sell a penny worth of merchandise. Where can I find more training on this aspect. I can not afford to spend money unless I have a fair amount of confidence that I will, at the very least, get my money back in a month or less. Any thoughts?

I have taken several trainings as well and I have found this one to be the best. If you are still in the $19 offer period I would encourage you to go for it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I feel I got more than my money's worth already and I barely finished lesson two.

Hi Johane

I recommend you find your niche first. That will help you decide on a name for your website.

When you know this then choose the website option - On a free domain. There you will type in the name for your website.

That option will build you one of your free subdomain websites you get with your Starter Membership. Later on as a premium member you'll be able to transfer it to a domain of your own.

Finding your niche is important.
- What are you passionate about?
- What do you want to help people with?

Go through the above video again for inspiration in answering these questions for yourself.

Hope this helps :)

Hey Johane

Just as Brigitte suggested, you first want to decide on a niche.

Think about your passions first. Are you a keen fisherman, camper or other leisure outdoor enthusiast. I notice you're president of your church, maybe this can be what you build your website around, your religion.

Having said that, you want to be able to write about your niche topic at least twice per week. So, you want to make sure there's enough material to write about.

Your week could be setup like this. One or two written articles about your niche topic, then two written product reviews.

As far as setting your website up goes, as you're on the free membership, you'd choose 'On a Free Domain'.

Step 2 - type in the domain name you want. This will have '.http://siterubix.com' at the end of the domain name. (As you move forward, you may choose to purchase a domain name of your own. This can be transferred over easily. Here's how to do this. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/carson/blog/siterubix-website-to-a-domain-you-own-in-one-click)

Step 3 - Type in the name that you want your website called. This will be similar to your domain name. For instance, you may choose a site called 'Awesome Golf Tips'. Your domain would be 'AwesomeGolfTips.siterubix.com'.

Step 4 - Go ahead and choose a theme for your website.

Hope this helps Johane.

First and foremost, I have so much more clarity on what a niche is and how to choose one. This has always been puzzling for me until WA. Feels great to fully understand. Your explanations and visual just put everything into perspective so clearly and I thank you so so much.

However, with that being said, I'm at a fork in the road and don't know which way to go. As I'm typing this out, I'll probably be answering my own uncertainties but I must present what's on my mind here just in case I am able to gain valuable insight from anyone in the community to make a sound decision moving forward. I guess it's like talking it out but typing instead... lol...

Here goes... In the past year and a half, I have got into a few information affiliate programs basically went through shiny object syndrome and when I found myself having to search outside of the site because of information that was missing the more I consumed the more I stayed confused and just hopped everywhere thinking that the next program would reveal the answer. Not the case.

After coming only this far into the Lessons, I now know why this is such an important step and I understand that I need to make a decision as to if it's gonna be the affiliate Bootcamp or EOC.

Here's my problem, I've been confused for so long that I kind of got turned off by the whole information affiliate program bit and I just uncovered a whole other world in which seems so much more fun to build out in the form of a website or websites with different niches and especially something that it's going to be something I like or want to know more about. Now I don't know which way to go.

I feel like I should stick with what I know since I do have a year over-invested. Hmmm, like I said I probably was going to answer my own uncertainty but I'm interested in getting feedback.

I would choose the one that you want to do the most. Either or are viable directions and down the road you can do both, but when starting out you need to narrow down to it. It comes down to what you will enjoy the most and what niche you will enjoy working with (and the corresponding audience).

If you enjoy what you do, you can work hard and it doesn't feel like nearly the same amount of effort as it does when you don't enjoy what you are doing.

I think although it seems quite a simple thing to do. Picking a niche appears to be harder than it looks, as I see I am not alone in the concept that it is difficult. I get the impression that it is best to consider something that you like, but could this option be thrashed as it is popular?

I was thinking about travel, could this be an option. But Amazon doesn't do travel. Should I just settle for something associated with travel like luggage?

Choosing a niche can certainly be a hard task to complete. Choose a niche that you like, yes, and that you feel you can offer a lot of content around since you'll need to write quite often. Amazon is not the only affiliate-related option, so I wouldn't choose your niche around what they offer. I am not sure if you're able to see the "Affiliate Program" area here in WA. But there are certainly other affiliate programs you can research around travel. You can also Google: travel+affiliate programs. This way you can see what affiliate programs come up.

I hope this is helpful to you.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Hi - a niche is not just simply a single product. It is a subject or topic you are passionate about and can help people with, by providing advice and useful information. Most of the subjects you have mentioned could be considered a niche but would require narrowing down. For example, photography, you could write how-to guides, and recommend different accessories such as a particular lens or tripod.

Thanks, Diane. Much obliged. Unfortunately, I don't consider myself expert enough in photography as yet to put myself in a position of an expert. I am still learning myself. The hobby/business is very complex to know enough. Just not sure how my writings or recommendations can mean much to others where I can earn money. Confused.

DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - you don't necessarily need to be an expert. People are interested in hearing other people's views and opinions. Have you ever bought a product related either to photography or any of your other interests and been impressed by it? Have you found yourself saying to friends or family, "this is really good because..." If you can persuade people that a particular product helped you, then they will be interested enough to check it out for themselves, and maybe buy it. Then you will earn a commission.

I was thinking it would be mobile phone repair. I wasn't sure if it had to be a product or something i could directly monetize strictly online.

Then the second part, is it's not just that. I specifically want to hone in and focus on the broken screens and parts that have a lot of salvage value and hidden value, if you're willing to put forth the extra effort.

I came to Spain 3 years ago. I have been teaching English to Spanish (local face-to-face), French (telephone/Skype) and Japanese (telephone/Skype). There are many on-line English courses. I have an idea to create an offering that fast-tracks English learners with conversational English without burdensome grammar and vocabulary exercises.
Not sure how to define the niche.

Yeah, that is most definitely the direction you could head with your niche. If this is something that you are passionate about, definitely go for it Graham!

Hi there
I want to work with Women of menopause and pre and post age, women of 40 plus. So it will be health products, other items for luxury and comfort. I also want to push the affiliate program for those who are at an "is this it?"stage in there lives. Literally my niche and ideal customer is me. I buy lots of health and beauty products on line and would like to pull them all together for my customers.

I also think at this time in life you can feel a little "is this it?" so actually having the business opportunity is also a great thing for my customers. I also sell my Best selling book through Amazon so Im guessing I can add that on my site too.

Thoughts?

Quick questions... Can you go on with your own niche and promote wealthy affiliate as well or is that too much too soon? I like the idea of creating my own niche and website but wouldn't mind promoting the company that is helping me make it happen as well.

Hi - it is not recommended to do both at the same time. The training is quite in-depth and you would need two separate websites. Trying to add content on a regular basis to both would be challenging and time consuming. Wait until you have one up and running first before taking on another.

Hi there Angel
Yes you can.

All you need is a Wealthy Affiliate review post with links so they can join.

Within your posts, or somewhere on your home page, even in your menu if you want, you can promote WA.

You can promote to your readers that if they are interested in learning how you were able to build a website like you have they can check out your review on your favorite website building program (WA)

You can also promote to your readers that you are an affiliate and you earn from your blog and if they want to find out how they can also become an affiliate, they can check out your review post of the #1 affiliate program (WA)

Or, promote to your readers about what they are there for.
So lets say you have a website about dogs.
Now, to promote WA, maybe you are doing a post about a specific kind of "show dog" then you can say to your readers...

If you want to create a fun blog about your "show dog" and learn how to earn some extra cash while blogging, check out my review post on "how to build a website about showdogs and earn income"

Then, in that post you are directing them too, you can add in a "call to action button" or link them to WA. (This post will also be a review post of WA) Informative and showcasing how your reader can get creative with their interests :)

Those are just a few examples, feel free to get creative.
All the best,
-Amelita

What I did (as was suggested by fellow WAers) was do a bit on my About page relaying how I learned to build my website. I now have a WA site and my original personal site (science fiction and fantasy) that subtly, I hope, promotes WA.

Hi Angel, as Diane said, I agree that you should do it on two websites. I have other blogs, one in particular which is like my sandbox. It's whatever I want to write about rather than something specific. Here's my blog where I wrote about WA using my Affiliate link. https://luigicappel.wordpress.com/2019/06/05/affiliate-marketing-that-works-while-i-wait-for-my-back-surgery/
If you don't have one, you now know how to do it. You can get a second website here at WA the same way you got your first one. A lot of people say to get your own name .com if it is available. I have a unique name so I didn't feel I needed to, but if you have a name which is more common, and there can't be many people like me, then I'd go for your name.
I don't think it is a good idea at this stage to use the one you have developed for Affiliate marketing UNTIL you are a huge success. At that point, irrespective of your niche, you would be in a good position to create a post saying how you got to be so successful and that people can click on your Affiliate link to learn how to do it yourself.
Just my thoughts, hope I've added to the discussion.
Regards
Luigi

hey guys, I have chosen a niche in a digital nomadic lifestyle, and travel services, I love this idea because I really love to travel the world on budget not luxury. I wanna see different places and people. I did some freelancing work in IT field, but I now I wanna know if is it possible to make an affiliate program in this niche so it will be passive income. I already did some offline affiliate in that field, like selling tours and stuff but I wanna know if this niche is good for online or not. I can't find products related to this niche on Amazon unless it is travel gears, does anyone have any idea about getting started and seeing around this niche, some links or some advice? thank you so much

Hi - you are not limited to Amazon. Check out this feature here at WA, where you can search for relevant affiliate programs. Do remember though, some programs expect to see a good deal of content on your website before approving you, so concentrate on that first, before applying.

Hi Kyle,

I was wondering since your recommendation is NOT to do the OEC and Bootcamp but to choose one of them, how would I be able to start referring people to WA? :) I have a niche ready to work with but I also would like to have the opertunity to refer others to WA.
Are there any specific reasons to your recommendation other than "Timeconsuming - focus on one project at hand"?
From what I understand the reason is to only focus on one project at a time? Atleast for a newbie like me, but as I get better, faster, more secure should that stop me from going through Bootcamp?
I mean going to Vegas does sound like alot of fun... :)

As always,
Best regards :)

Hi - the training is quite intense and as a beginner, it would be challenging to work through both courses at the same time. Plus, ideally you would need two websites, as they are separate niches, and trying to add content to both on a regular basis is very time-consuming.

There is nothing to stop you completing the Online Entrepreneur Certificate and getting your first website set up, and then moving on to the Bootcamp. If you have friends or family interested in joining WA, you could send them your affiliate link by email.

You will want to narrow either one of these categories down a bit. When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

I have decided on my first niche. I am the designer/owner of a greeting card company. I am trying to see how I could make this work for me. All of my greeting cards are different, intentionally. I hardly ever make 2 of the same card, but only because that is boring to me. I think that my niche is to make things beautiful;to the best of my ability and that is through my greeting cards.

I am obsessed with beauty and there is so much of it in the world. I believe that I make amazingly beautiful greeting cards. My cards are made to order some of the cards are made in different color options I try to put lots of samples of my previous work so that you have a clear picture in your head of what your card could look like. Then there are some cards that the buyer will have options to choose different things on the cards i.e. sentiment, occasion.

I have been making cards for the last 20 years. I have grown a lot in those 20 years, but you can always learn more. And I am always up for that. If by chance you choose to allow me to design a card for you from one of my many designs, you are saying that you allow me to make some changes according to the product that I have on hand. Your card will look very simular, but with my own special twist on it. The product you recieve will be somewhat simular, but better and filled with love.

Does anybody think that his will work, besides me?

Good Day, Hamza.

If I'm reading your question correctly, you're saying:

... I want to walk, but I don't want to use my legs, or
... I want to walk, but I don't want my feet to touch the ground, or
... I want to walk, but I don't want to get off this chair!

The easiest way to be successful in life is to follow the teachings of successful people.
This is not some crazy maxim that I've invented.
This is common knowledge.

Go back as many steps as you need to understand what a niche is.
Find a NICHE that you are comfortable with and begin there!

You cannot start at the top of the pyramid,
there is someone there already.

You have to begin at the bottom.
You cannot begin as president of the bank.
You have to start as a teller.

There are dozens and perhaps 100's of pages here explaining what a niche is and how to go about finding one. This is where you have to begin. I'm not suggesting that you become the proverbial lemming running off the cliff, but you have to follow instructions to achieve the results that the program describes.

Research what a niche is UNTIL,
you can explain to someone else, "What is a niche?"

You will have to bother with a lot of stuff you don't like to achieve success.
There is no other way around it.

If you do find any easy way to success, market that idea!

A niche, ... "the easy road to success"

Everyone would like to find it, but no one has,
and besides it would take all the hard work out of it and make success, meaningless!

Hi HaiderPacha, tough men, I had the same dilemma when I got laid off from first job, this happened many years ago. I was so determined to find a way to make money; just like you; and I did. Every morning I would get up and walk to work places asking for an opportunity to show how I could help and contribute with my ideas and energy, and then one day finally someone gave the opportunity I was looking for. Definitely that kept me motivated for awhile i had a roof and food on the table to feed my family until I looked into the "crazy" idea of starting my own business and try to escape the rat race, i dreamt in becoming financially free, I knew I could do it. It takes time and determination to get what you want, discipline yourself and you will get there, no doubt. I'm still working on it.

Never give up, there is always something better right in front of you, just need to go for it and make it yours.
Find your passion and never work again! (WA)

Wish you the best and Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I joined just two days ago and I need some help with coming up with a good niche. At first, I thought of beauty products like hair and skin care which I buy so much of and can write honest reviews about. But I am not sure if it can get me anywhere with such high competitions on instagram and youtube.

Then I thought of my passion for creative writing and making music. But honestly I have no idea how this is going to make me money since I am not a music instrument expert to tell people what kind of piano or guitar they should buy. And i'm on the path of learning these things my self.

Today, ( now this is something very personal! ) I was writing the sentence how can I help people with -------- . and when I wanted to fill the blank I started thinking of the many years I struggled and still struggling with depression, and remembered all the things that have helped me, or things that could have helped me if I knew earlier. Like sticking to a proper medication, or journaling, or what books, or like some useful ways of thinking that can actually help with better decision making when you are depressed. So I deeply truly want any one who is suffering with depression and anxiety to know more about my journey and you know get better. But the only products that I can think of to possibly post a link for to sell is ( meditation pillow, or a link to a good yoga place for membership, water bottle, self-help apps if they are actually possible to post a link to, journals, yoga mat, calendar, etc...)

I would love to know your opinion on these and which website would you have been drawn towards to shop from or read from if for example all of the three ideas above had a website? So I'm trying to come up with something that can actually have revenue for me realistically. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Pani

I have an idea for a niche but I would like this panel's opinion on it :)

I've been reading manga (Japanese comics) for years and so far, I've been satisfied with fan translations on free sites. My half-sister, however, find more value in reading the paperback manga as in, she's willing to pay for a physical copy of an official, translated manga. I thought about doing a niche on paperback manga after remembering this fact but then I'm afraid I won't get business because people are always looking for a free solution and there's a lot of fans translating manga for free and distributing for free. However, I ended up doing some digging and I found out it's not only my half-sister that looks actively for paperback manga. The community is promising but I'm hesitant to go for it, knowing full well the presence of free online sites.

It seems silly that I'm afraid but I'm just putting myself out there after seeing how helpful this community is.

Hello from Nottingham! The outdoors is a very broad niche, so you need to narrow that down first to whichever aspect you enjoy the most and can help people with - camping, hiking, mountaineering etc. You can then promote as many products as you wish, providing they relate to the niche you have chosen.

I'm not sure whether or not the cruise industry has any affiliate marketing offers but you could certainly be creative. If you look hard enough, you'll probably find some offers in the cruise industry but here are some other ways you could approach this.

I've heard that many airlines and hotel booking sites have affiliate offers. What you could do is send your readers an affiliate link to your airline of choice when you are trying to get people to go on a cruise some place that requires plane travel.

Another way, and probably better way, is to review and talk about things that go well on a cruise. Like make a blog post later on along the lines of "Top 10 Things you need to know before going on a cruise" or like "Top 10 items you should get before going on a cruise" and then just link the products you talk about.

The third way if you want to get spicy is to directly contact the cruise businesses once you get traffic (a lot of people) and tell them that you could drive people to their business if they pay you money every month.

Those are just some ideas and I hope that opens up your mind a little on what you could do with your niche. Just remember that everything is hard work and long term and it may not be a good idea to expect to make money right off the start. Good luck!

The niche I would like to use is disability aids to make life easier for disabled people, as I have a disability myself and am always on the lookout for things to make my life easier. I'm just wondering if it's too broad or if it's ok? Thanks in advance
Reply

You have some options here. You can keep it broad, in which case I would suggest having categories based on type of disability. Otherwise you can focus in on a specific type of disability on a single site; in that case I would suggest having a series of sites, each one on a specific type of disability, and linking them together to create a network.

I am very interested in health, wellness and exercise, as well as my dogs, lol. I am currently a MLM for a health and wellness company and wonder if there is a way that I could incorporate this company into home gym equipment or something along these lines, is that not specific enough?

You can but keep in mind that affiliate marketing and MLM or Multi-level marketing are two different things, so two different target audiences. Affiliate marketing is a system where you earn a commission promoting other people’s products and MLM as you know is a system where you earn a commission selling products through distributors you must recruit.
Following you will find a link of a post from Nathaniell comparing these two types of Marketing:

The key when building a business online (or offline) is building a focused audience and brand through helping people within a certain niche. It is very difficult to make a product/service your niche and that is the reason people that are within MLM don't actually have a business, they are reliant on the MLM itself versus their own brand/foundation.

You are going to learn how to properly build a business online here at WA in any niche. Within that respective niche, you are going to be able to promote many different products (PRODUCT included). This will position you for much longer term success and a great deal of long term sustainability with your business.

If you can help people, you can create a long term business doing so.

Here is my idea based on personal experience. I would like to start a site discussing products and services to help people recover from concussion. I had a very complex case of post-concussion syndrome for 3 years (bike accident April 2016) and it nearly ruined my life. I still have to follow certain treatments to keep symptoms away. People who don't recover within several weeks are treated poorly by doctors (outright accused of faking it or mental illness) who can't do much to help them. It really requires a lot of research and finding products/services that will work for each individual.
How would something like this go over?

Thank you! Best wishes for your son. The most helpful things for me have been seeing a functional neurologist (very expensive & naturally not covered by insurance) and a wearable device that sends photo neutrons into my brain. I use it 20 minutes a day, great results from many, many lingering issues over 3 years. Sorry he's had to deal with this so long!

Selecting a niche is as overwhelming as was stated! I have always been kind of a technology geek with Apps that turn my lights on, to neck contraptions that hold my phone in place while I watch a movie or even owning robo-vacuums! I guess the best way of describing it is by saying that I like gadgets! With that said, how can I move forward with this interest and turn it into something for a website? Is there anywhere I can see if these are trending upward and worth creating as my niche market?
Reply

Without even investigating try out this thought. There is billions of people out there and millions who like technological gadgets. Search out the gadgets you really like and see what is out there on the net.

And by the way if you discover a house cleaning drone let me know as we have really high ceilings that are hard to dust!:)

All of those are great niches. Some people believe (and I tend to agree) that choosing the affiliate marketing niche is best done after you have successfully developed a niche website first. Otherwise, you are creating a website teaching people how to do something you haven't been successful with yet. It certainly can be done if that's where you want to start, though! It just may be quite the challenge since you have to really learn something well before you can write about it. But if you have some other niche interests, they may be better choices because you can use that niche to learn the ins and outs of affiliate marketing, which will make you more knowledgable and credible if you choose to start an affiliate marketing site down the line. Just my thoughts and certainly not a rule if that's where your heart is leading you to start.

Couple things you can do to decide between your other interests is run those niches through google trends to make sure they are going up, or at least steady.

You can analyze the competition a bit to see if you have a ton of big names to compete against. Some niches are super competitive--not that you can't or shouldn't try to break into those niches, but it's just a good idea to understand that going in to see if you're up for that with your first website.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those niches you listed. Which would be the most fun for you to write about? Which can you generate a long list of content ideas for?

My question is... Once I have a niche. How will I know if that product(s) are part of an affiliate marketing company that is selling them. Secondly when my website directs traffic to the seller's website and initiate a sell - how and where does the commission funnel back to my site?
Thx

Most of the niches have products you can promote. For example, if your niche is about flowers, you can promote books or courses about gardening, tools for gardening, etc.
Amazon affiliate program is very popular so you can check out if there are products there you can promote.

I'm not sure what you ask in your second question. How can they track that the commission came from your site?
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - there are tens of thousands of affiliate programs, which offer practically every product you can think of. When you have chosen your niche, you can search in Google by typing in niche + affiliate programs.

Once you have been accepted to an affiliate program, the links they supply to be added to your site, have your ID embedded in them. This tracks when a customer has clicked through from your site. Each affiliate program has its own method of payment to pay your commission, you would need to read their terms and conditions.

Go to major companies like Amazon, Walmart, Target or wherever you would go to purchase that product and see if that company has an affiliate program. The best way to find that out is to use Google to make your query.

Hi Kyle and everybody..
Thinking about a niche, me being a doctor and my interests (health, nutrition, sports, yoga, natural stuff..) I could come up with something; but first, I need to understand a couple of things first please. What about the “writing” part? Coz I’m not really a good writer myself; I mean, I write in good English and all but to write long paragraphs and all.. it’s not my thing. I might even find myself boring 😂 So, will I have to write regular blogs on my website or just simply respond by comments on potential clients’ posts? Or write reviews (maybe paraphrase others’)? What’s it exactly please?
Also, will the website be used to promote only one niche? A whole website for a few (possibly one) products? For example, TVs and home theater systems, would be in the same niche?

Hi Rami and welcome to WA
Don't get too worried about your niche.
Write a list of things you enjoy as you have written here then pick your no.1 choice and make this your niche.
Yes, you are going to write content however these will be written in small paragraphs as you will learn as you go through all the training so my advice is to relax, get into the training and do what is taught step by step and the picture will become much clearer
Go well

That’s a high demand niche! You should work on all of three, write posts, reply to your audience and write affiliate products reviews. All of them are important, but even though you don’t reply or review, you must write posts consistently. You must work on one niche only. You can promote several or many products in the same niche and yes, tv and home theater are in the same niche.

Well I know this may seem like a lazy choice because it's literally the first product you see when pressing play on the video but as a father of 2 children under the age of 2 diapers have became our #1 product in our house hold. As I took a minute to think about it the amount of diapers sold by Amazon alone are absolutely staggering and with a some what high price tag taking a percentage off of the sale could over time become very lucrative.... I hope lol.

Any opinions on my choice would be greatly appreciated.

About 4 years ago, my wife and I moved to the country and started a hobby farm, and people always seem to be fascinated by the things we do here. I would love to write about my beekeeping, gardening, chickens, brewing, fermenting, foraging, permaculture projects, etc. I know this seems pretty broad, but I don't know that I could write about only one of these topics and stay motivated for very long. The first level/phase of both OEC and Bootcamp are included in your starter membership. If you want to continue through the training beyond that, it is within the Premium.

It is $19 the first month, then it is $49 per month after the first month. This includes absolutely everything you need to create and grow a business online from the training, weekly live classes, he support, the tools, the websites/hosting, the mentoring, network, exclusive access to all updates...you name it.

We also have a 6 month option for $234 which works out to be $39 per month when paid in full, and a yearly option of $359 which is a big discount and that works out to be $29 per month when paid in full. You can choose either or.

Hope this helps you out Motshidisi and if you have any further questions let me know.

Hi Sandra-mari,

You can start with a free domain and get your own domain name once you're 100% sure which name you want.

Once you know which name you want, you can purchase it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

When you have your own domain name, it's not recommended to change it afterwards because that will affect Google rankings.

That being said, I recommend picking your own domain name as soon as possible because one ranking factors in Google is domain age. So, the earlier you pick your domain, the better. Then it starts gaining authority in Google's eyes.

Your niche is not the product you are selling typically, rather it is the audience interested in something or needing help with something.

Jewelry has MANY different niches within it. What type of jewelry, and who do you want to help find jewelry?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Hello,
I'm not Kyle but I'd like to chime in here. If you can narrow it to a more specific group, you'll have an easier time ranking for and selling to that niche (i.e. less competition). Can you target a more specific group such as video equipment for professional productions or something like that (you know, differentiate between the home videographer and the professional)?

I have a few ideas. I am a little confused as to choosing. Should I go more specific or is it good to have a little variety and be more broad-based? Also I know we are given two websites with the intro version. Should we choose two different niches? I also like the bootcamp but you suggested we go one direction and not take on both. Is that just at the beginning until we get the hang of it? Is it something we can pursue later? Thanks so much!
Reply

Hi - generally more specific is better, but that doesn't mean restricting yourself to just one product. Remember, you will be writing lots of articles on your chosen niche, so make sure there is enough to talk about, and that you won't get bored with.

The training is quite intense, and it would be difficult to apply to two websites at the same time, so just work on one to start with.

You can certainly pursue the bootcamp training if you wish, but again not at the same time. Both training courses start off broadly similar, but the bootcamp goes much more in-depth into money making online and the promotion of WA itself.

Who specifically do you want to help with insurance? What type of insurance? You could use this niche, but don't force yourself into doing something that you don't really feel all that committed to just because you have overspent on something related to it in the past.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Hi. I'm wanting to create my nice around children, mainly things like emotions, how to talk to kids, how to start discussions etc but I'm not sure how to define it. I'm just up to looking at naming my website as well and I was thinking something along the line of kids talk or let's talk kids but when you take the space between the words away it could easily come out like (letstalkkids) let stalk kids or (kids talk) kid stalk which I certainly don't want. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Michelle;

You'll also want to find one that not in use now in case you want to buy the domain later.

Here's a free tool where you enter words or phrases and it gives you suggestions for available domain names and ideas:

I thought I’d chosen my niche but am wondering if Eco Friendly Products is too broad? I love anything to do with saving the planet so would find it hard to scale my niche down into something very specific say to just Eco Friendly cleaning products or Eco Friendly Supplements. Please can the community advise me on how best to move forward as I’m keen to progress with the WA training and start building my website, but want to make sure I’ve nailed my niche first before progressing 😊

Eco Friendly niche is good but you got to narrow it down to the specific products or have a specific target e.g women, children, elderly, nursing mom etc. Yes you can choose either cleaning products, beauty products, supplements and offer different advise on how to use them and then do some product reviews to boost your affiliate marketing.

you could narrow down at the start to one area of eco friendly products.
use google to show you the most searched for topics.
once you have gained traction in this one area then move onto the next, the basics have been done so the next will be easier, then the next, etc
this way you will cover what you want but in a way that allows you to get noticed rather than trying to spread your articles over too broad an area.
good luck

Newbie looking for some guidance from the community. My mind is spinning right now but trying to bring it in to focus after the video. Thinking of cardio equipment as a niche. Two questions come to mind. #1. Is the niche too broad or should I focus on a specific area such as eliptical trainers? #2. Does the shipping cost weigh in to the decision of the niche? Obviously those who may order an eliptical trainer are going to pay more shipping than those buying a book. Thoughts??

Hey there, I don;t think cardio equipment is too broad.. you could write posts that go narrower but I think it is ok.. for example - you could write about best cardio equip. for men, ladies, new mothers, teenagers, athletes and so on..

And yes, larger items may sell less due to shipping etc.. but you could also write a review of the books and sell them too.. There are so many cross sells such as the right sneakers to wear, the best clothing for cardio - tight? Lose? etc and reccomend them too..

Hope that didn't add to your overload but I think that is a good niche..

Great questions. The one thing you want to keep in mind is that you will have to write a lot of content around your niche. Can you write that much about just cardio equipment? If you write great reviews about cardio equipment, it will entice people who are into working out to buy the equipment, regardless of the shipping cost. Content on your site is key. I hope that is helpful. Wishing you all the best.

Kind regards,
Yvette

Selecting a niche was overwhelming for me. I have several websites and I'm unhappy to say that none of them are in place on the net making any money. I went with different niches and decided on pet products and then realized (and learned from this video) that pet products is too broad of a niche, so I decided on just products for dogs and cats, but was given advice that that also is too broad. I wanted to find out how much of a commission I could make on items sold cheaply and items that had a high price tag. I've learned now not to stress or over think it and go with what I have a passion for and that can bring me a decent commission per sale. How to make money online is a great niche and is a way to attract readers (that can potentially turn into customers) as people can always learn something new when reading or re-reading.

My first website is about home remodeling for beginners and I am still very excited about it even though I just joined 2 affiliates to start linking into it. I have been wondering about that as my 2nd niche and I really believe that making money online will be a great one. even though it has a high about of traffic there are so many friends and family that really do feel the same as me about being over worked and under paid. I really think that will grow quicker than this first one and I hope to be a WA affiliate partner soon. I'm still going through the training but once I'm done I'll jump over to the start and into the boot camp!!!

Good luck to you! Wish you the best! People love to read new info or anything they haven't read before in the past about making money online. I think it's a growing and expanding niche and bringing in the experiences of being overworked and underpaid, it sounds to be a winner to my ears. People need help to be their own owners of their income making and strategizing tactics, so if others can become successful without having a boss for overhead, then it's value worth reading.

I’m new to WA and very excited to get started I had a broad niche in mind ,but after going through this lesson . I don’t feel as confident anymore. Seems like there are so many people that may have the same idea.Is there anyone out there that hasn’t been as internet savvy and trying this.

Hello Carolyb. I in a similar situation as you. I just started here on Wealthy Affiliate this past 1st of May. I was super excited, then once I so how much information, tools and learning it was going to take, I became a lil bit overwhelmed.
Yet, I keep my excitement, and I advise you to do the same.
For the niche, I also had the same reaction as you did. But I decided to just make a choice. Above all, I think the most important thing is to make a choice on a niche that you will be able to communicate, connect and willing love to help people. The rest will come. I believe that as you go on through the training you will learn lots of technique on how to make the best out of your niche.
And if it's still so confusing for you, just go for promoting Wealthy Affiliate, is what I have decided to do. When you go to the boot camp, you will learn more about how to make the most of out your niche. Much courage to you Carolyb. You wish you all the best.

Being new to WA (but not to affiliate/online marketing and sales), I think I'm like most people who approach this task.....I want something that makes money as soon as possible but I need to do some research first! The trick here is to apply a strict time limit to the first attempt...it is your learning catalyst.

This lesson has opened my mind about niches. I know much more about the topic of niches as a whole and applied to online (affiliate) business; Yet, I'm still scared. I'm mean I have several passions, and hence ideas I wish to make money from but most of all communicate about. And I always have to fear to do wrong or make the wrong choice. I will have to choose between, human relationships, online money making, and business models for startups. Any suggestions, tips or pieces of advice for me???

Don't worry about perfectionism. I suggest you just go for it. When you start even if you make a mistake you can correct it if you are paralysed by indecision and do nothing you will get nothing. Just start by promoting wealthy affiliate's. You sound as though you already know something about Internet marketing

Hi - you will be writing articles about your niche to attract visitors. You will join affiliate programs such as Amazon, and promote products related to your niche. If a visitor clicks on a link on your site and purchases something, you earn a commission.

Each affiliate program has different methods of payment.

Please continue to follow the training, as the entire process is explained step by step.

Thank you very much Dianescopio, now, i know what the whole system is all about i have been hearing the niche all along no clue of profits.

I just watched the video and I am really interested in health supplements because I've read a couple of articles that talk about the beneficial effects that different supplements have on the body. I have googled some sites and watched a couple of videos on YouTube and I'm very intrigued about learning more information on health supplements. I'm also interested in spiritual healing and essential oils. I believe that having an overall healthy well being is truly important especially as all of us progress in life.

That could be a tiny bit too broad. What type of supplements or what type of ailments specifically do you want to help people out with.

I have a few ideas after watching the video. You said follow your passions and you hobbies do that is what I shall go for. Can you just narrow this down for me please? I think my niche would be martial arts. Now is this too much of a broad spectrum? Do I need to narrow this down to maybe something like boxing gloves or Thai boxing shorts for example?
Reply

Hi! Yes it migth be better to narrow it down. By time you can build it bigger but I would say it is easier to start smaller. Thai boxing is better! :)

So I have a couple of ideas but just having a little difficulty narrowing them down. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 2 so I have lots of knowledge on raising children and raising them alone. What I would like is to have a site where parents can come and get advice but also be able to vent about their frustrations with parenting and not be ridiculed about it. I also suffer from Social Anxiety and Depression which gets worse and worse every year that I get older but the more I thought about having a site about this the more I think that wouldn't be a good one because I am not a doctor so my advice and stuff probably wouldn't be something that someone is looking for. The final thing is I am a couch potato and love watching movies (mainly) and T.V. shows. I mean I love it so much that there aren't very many movies that I haven't seen already. I watch them as soon as they come out in theaters or on demand and sometimes I watch them online (don't tell anyone else that because I could get in trouble for that, lol). I am just not sure how to narrow them down because movies is definitely too broad of a term and so is children or babies. I currently have a website where I sell maternity clothing and baby items but I don't really think that I would be very good talking about Maternity fashion. I mean I have troubles coming up with product descriptions for the items I sell so I am very skeptical about starting a blog about that. What would you advise? I am currently viewing all the links that were provided in the comments so hopefully that will help a bit. Thank you!

Awesome, I already responded to this in another area, but yes you have some great ideas here. You just need to choose a starting point and narrow it down to something specific. Do realize that there is no such thing as a "perfect" niche, so choose your starting point and move forward from there.

Take action, work hard and if you need a hand with anything at all moving forward let me know. :)

Kyle, this is eye opening for me. Im thinking of selling swimming accessories for kids. My husband is a Sports Coach and the bulk of his business tends to be swimming lessons for 5-12 year olds. I would like for us to provide swimming accessories that parents can from us online and we have them delivered to them. However, I don't how to go about this especially that we are not a country that Amazon ships to (Zambia)? I like the idea of the Amazon Affiliate Program that you mentioned but I just don't know how this all ties together? Any advice?

Have you looked for companies that do run affiliate programs in Africa?

Hmm no let try that first. Thanks!

You don't have to promote to people in your country, your website is global, and your audience will be too. For example, you could have a website that targets people globally and you sell affiliate products to people in the US, all while living in Zambia.

Hmm seems I have been limiting my thinking. I will ask more as we go along. Thanks Kyle!

So basically a niche is what you are selling, but not literally just in an advertisement, but the products are for sale. I need to find a niche that is important enough to me, something I know about but that is also in demand. See I am a full time Barber Stylist so I understand this method, I just want to make sure that what I'm marketing is worth marketing online.
