What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Understanding what a niche is . . . this is a very important lesson. This should be incorporated into the free training when starting up - this is very crucial for some :)

Perhaps down the track, once I become more familiar with what I am doing with my profile etc with WA, then perhaps I will review my site as a whole . . . unsure at this stage until I go further into this

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening (wherever you are). When they advise 'choose something you're passionate about', this is where I get stuck. I honestly don't know what I am passionate about. I mean I am passionate about certain things, but these things could be boring to other people, right?

What if someone is passionate about 'Butterflies', could this be turned into a viable online business, (BTW, I am not passionate about Butterflies, that's just an example - no offence to anyone who is passionate about Butterflies!) LOL

Any advice/suggestions/tips?

Many thanks...

There are billions of people online, and most likely there will be millions of them that are interested in what you are interested in ...

What are your interests? Apart from butterflies? :)

Hi Chris, Thanks for replying.

OK, this might sound a bit lame, but I am super fussy (but not quite OCD level).

I love things to be organised. I love things that help people be organised. So this could be in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, office. Innovative things that you find in places like Ikea, which look cool, save space and organise your stuff.

Thoughts?

ok there is a lot going on there.

I know people that are doing cooking and kitchen niches... I know people that are into decor .. I know people that are also involved in office work and garden furniture... you have a lot of scope if you can choose a passion.

My advice is to choose one ... and make it your thing.. there is a market for everything... and there are millions of people looking for what you are interested in too

Chris

Ok, cool, I guess I got to 'niche' down! But, that has given me some encouragement. Thanks, man.

Think simple my friend.,,

do not over complicate things... people are making an income with the simplest of niches.. be it mobile phones.. garden furniture... dieting.. kids toys.. baby cots.. prams.. etc etc

Just focus on one... and make it the best... try not to be too big in the beginning... there is scope for that later.. If you have the passion .. you will do it..

I for example have a website that is about a small island that I live on ... tons of history .. lots of interest.. millions of tourists every year.. I focus on that .. and only that ... and it is doing ok

Think of the acronym KISS... Keep It Simple Stupid :) no offence

Chris

OK, that seems like sound advice! Hey man, no offence taken - we all love a KISS, right? (though, you may have offended my Butterflies) ;-)

I think organization is a totally viable avenue. There are plenty of people who just do not know how to approach being organized, and thus need some tips or products to help them accomplish this. If you really enjoy organizing things I would go with it.

One way to determine whether there are people passionate about the things you like is to look at two things:

1) Keyword research

Go to Jaaxy and do some keyword research for the thing you're passionate about and see if there are people looking for information in that area.

2) Affiliate Products

Do some product research either on Amazon or just do some Google search. See if there are products you can promote within your niche.

If it meets these two criteria, it means your niche has a potential for you to get into, help people and monetize.

Working towards to a niche that helps people realize eating outside raised pork is way healthier for them than buying pork in town that came from hog confinement and are water filled with poison called Paylean ;( We raise outside pork and we can guarantee a huge difference in our meat. We go to farmers markets and we have had customers buy are meat and cook it beside Fareway and they asked us ; guess which one had awesome flavor and which one had NO flavor? Yes ours won over Fareway :) Happy people make us happy. Our goal is to keep our customers happy no matter how hard it is to please some people that goes with the job and we wouldn’t want it any other way :)

Hi Kyle (@kyle),

I'm interested in the "make money online" niche so will be heading across to the Affiliate Bootcamp training to learn how to promote Wealthy Affiliate.

As part of this I'm especially interested in helping "baby boomers" and elderly people utilise the Internet to help supplement income in retirement.

Another niche I'd like to explore once I get my initial marketing underway is to help local businesses automate their customer acquisition process and/or leverage the power of the Internet to gain customers and increase sales and productivity.

In the meantime, I'll see you across at the Affiliate Bootcamp :)

These are certainly directions that you can head here Will and it sounds like you have a good handle on who your niche will be. If you are going to head in that direction, I recommend that you go through the Affiliate Bootcamp training.

It is geared towards the "make money" niches and the promotion of Wealthy Affiliate and will walk you through the process of growing and sustaining a successful business in that niche.

Ok I’m thinking TOYS but how broad can I make this? I’m thinking children age 5-12, I love toys, and I’m thinking video games could also fall into the toy category. I’m also rather good with children’s fashion but that would be a whole other niche, correct? What do you guys think? I know kids and I know toys/video games. Animated/family movie reviews or posts could even be included, oooooh I’m really hoping this is a niche cuz I’m feeling Uber good about this one!
Reply

I think that's a great niche idea! What I would do is start off really narrow, but also leave yourself the ability to expand further in the future. So, first, focus on a really targeted niche within' the toy industry, and become THE source for info/reviews/whatever on that specific type of toy. Once you've about exhausted that type of toy, move on to the next one.

I also suggest focusing on higher-end products. Try to find a toy niche where the products are $100+. That way, if you use something like the Amazon Associates program, you'll actually make a decent amount per sale as opposed to selling toys that are $10 or $20.

To help narrow down your exact niche, check out the training here on keyword research to find winnable keywords that target higher end kids toys.

Seems like you're on the right track! :)

One thing to be careful of with video games and consoles is that they pay out pretty low on Amazon Associates (only 1%). You can read more about their affiliate payouts here: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/operating/policies

Okay, I thought a niche was something that I am familiar with/passionate about that I could possibly build a website around (and write about), then look for products that I could affiliate market on my website. That seems to be the logical way to go, but after the video, maybe I need to do the reverse? i.e, look for products then build a website around that subject?
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
You can actually create a site for both. Since this is your first niche site, I would honestly go with what you know. This will make writing content on it flow naturally. It is proven that people can write and speak with passion on content that interests them in comparison to things they know little to nothing about.

Once you get the hang of how this all works, then you should create a site on something you know less about. This will make the step by step process seem less stressful than if you went all in on a new site with a new topic, both new endeavors.

To have a niche is like to have a motorcycle and start understanding the motor sound, it will be easy to use the speed changes, because you know your machine, so I understand that and I have a niche what I am good for, I am happy with this academy and I am enjoy so much!

I think it will be challenging to reign things in, I am thinking about a niche for organic hand and body lotions, but then I can see adding organic skin treatments and soaps, and essential oils, and make up....see? Should I stick with just the hand and body lotion? Maybe consider expanding as things progress?
Reply
JoeysRed Premium
That shouldn't be hard to sell. Those are things that you don't just find in the store. You would have to find natural shops for that. So even offline those products aren't easy to find. The potential for online sales are good. Um although I would separate those products to key specific niches if I were you. The lotions and the soap would probably be better as individual niches. If a salesman were going door to door trying to sell organic lotions and soaps he would have to sell them from the same distributor. I think you would be better off selling organic soaps and organic lotions as two separate niches. But good luck to you. I think you have a good idea.

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. I am glad you see the potential (you cannot find these products on the shelves at the store because they do not have a long shelf life), but there are plenty of people selling them, question is how many have an affiliate program. I will keep going to see how it plays out. Thanks again!

Need help! I have a hard time making decisions, so choosing a niche seems like a bigger project than I know it is.

My interests:
1. Traveling: luggage, portable wifi, traveling books, deals on flights
2. Healthy Lifestyle: food, exercise, self help
3. Water sports: wake boards, ropes, speaker systems

Anybody have a vote?!
Any suggestions or questions I can consider to help with this process?

Do you know what? I would be tempted to combine all three and do a travel blog with regard to the lightest luggage may be , the best sports equipment, and detailing eating healthily on aeroplanes et cetera

@katkatskitchen I like that idea! I think what I am going to do is start with Travel, maybe dabble first in luggage and/or the best travel technology. Then add on tips and tricks like exercise and eating when in airports and traveling, or the best flight websites, etc.

Please keep me updated on suggestions! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The niche building concept is the most interesting to me because affiliate marketing for me is not my prime goal, the niche build is. I saw the sample fitness supplement website in a previous video and liked the large variety of categories.

My chosen niche is similar. Many categories.... How do i best create a sort of "expert" web presence like that...? Is it better to do multiple smaller websites or one reference point and just build more pages over time related to my interest area?
Reply
GaryHorton Premium
It's better to build one reference point, aka authority website, rather than build many small websites. Generally speaking, the larger a website is the more authority it will have in the search engines and the higher it will rank.

OHHHH!!! Well the sports supplement was a good example then. Ok... I think I can do that with a little help..lol.Thanks.

Thanks for that video, Kyle. My problem is I have too many niches and I need to make a sense of it before I continue. But the video is very helpful, it helps me narrow down what I want which boils down to two vastly different ideas that correlate with each other.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, if they correlate to one another, perhaps you will be able to leverage them both on the same site (eventually). Just keep your website focused and specific when starting out, you just don't want to be too broad. It only takes ONE niche, and a specific one to be very successful online!

Hi guys! I’m really interested in travel and am currently travelling at the minute but there are sooo many different ways to go with this. Would travel accessories be to broad? Would I have to bring that down to something like travel backpacks or travel notebooks or would I be able to have my niche as travel accessories?
Reply

You could go with travel accessories as a whole & then create separate categories narrowing it down even further. Even if people are visiting your website for travel backpacks or notebooks it would be likely that they'd be interested in the other offers on your site too.

When you chose a niche, then you buy and become the owner of that niche. You start your website, does your website always have to be in regard to that niche. Or can you chose different niches or write on different niche as you continue after the first one. Wait do you have to buy each niche that you are writing about.
Reply
Freedomseekr Premium
Yes, you'd first choose a niche, and then buy a domain for that niche. You'd then focus on building up your website (which is running on that domain) about things that are related to that niche. Domains aren't that expensive, but if you want to start it out free, use one of the free siterubix sites here to set it up. You can always move it over to your own domain later, which is pretty easy to do.

Yes, you can do more than one niche, but it's recommended to have a separate domain for each...it would be confusing to your visitors otherwise. Plus, I'd recommend only starting with one niche and get it going to where you want it first...before starting another niche. Get that first one going to where you want it, then think about the next niche.

It's just too hard as you're going through the training here and setting up your first website to be focused on more than one niche...don't make the mistake I did when I started out here, lol.

Hope that helps you out some, and if you have any more questions as you go through the training here, just ask...
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Hello as I am just starting out, I am certain of my niche but would it be a bad idea to make my niche location specific? Since I'm using an online platform and my site in not a representation of a physical location? I only ask because I feel I can drive a substantial amount of traffic just off the people in my area looking for certain products and services or would this be a bad idea?
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
You can make your niche anything you want to a specific location, as it will gain traffic that is targeted. If you were to target a specific college in your town for instance, you would gain a lot of traffic for that college. However, when others in neighboring colleges, or parents for that matter, see your content, they will spread the news of your site.

Think of it as a wildfire- it starts in a targeted location. When it gets its fuel, it spreads until it reaches its maximum capability.

I am just starting the training so I may be asking a question that will be answered in the next few lessons, but is it recommended to only chose one specific niche at a time or have various niches that are related in some way on our website? For example, yoga mats, yoga mat bags, and other various yoga related supplies. Or would my website be designated for just yoga mats as my niche if I choose to go with that.

Thanks in advance!:)

I think it's possible to create a successful niche on yoga and sell a variety of products, but narrow niches (such as yoga mats) are easier when you are first starting out. Start narrow and then widen it out as you build out the site further.

Hey Kyle, this was a great video on choosing a niche. But I have been following or searching different people on what it takes in being successful with marketing. So when choosing a niche is this also a form of starting a funnel with each niche that you choose. ? Also when I advertise or promote wealth affiliate, how do I make a advertise the name of wealthy affiliate and do I type in my name phillip21 to show that I advertise the name.
Reply
onmyownterms Premium
First off, this site isn't about creating funnels - those are usually used in 'information' or digital marketing (ebooks, etc.) This site teaches you how to do affiliate marketing for such partners as Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc. That's the Online Entrepreneur Certification course.

Then there is also Affiliate Bootcamp, which is aimed at teaching you how to market Wealthy Affiliate. If you're interested in promoting WA, I'd start there, rather than the OEC. You'll need separate websites for each niche (physical products v. WA), and I recommend someone new to this focus on one site at a time.
Reply
Jim-Bo Premium
You can apply a funnel once you begin email marketing. This is simply collecting emails on your site, and your email drip campaign would act like a funnel, in a way. Another way you could describe is the search engines being a pathway to your site, it depends. I like building funnels myself, beginning with an optin page, a thank you page, a one time offer page etc...although Mel is right, there's not a lot about funnels in WA training. However, content is what gets people to your funnel in the first place. With no content you won't get much in the way of traffic.

I simply draw a blank. Every one of these just brings up more questions, doubts, and fears. I guess I just don’t understand the whole concept at all. There are a zillion places selling all this stuff so why use mine. I go to Amazon and choose prime offers when I want any of this. My true interest is my crafts, like my scarves, remaking clothes to wear differently, painting, making all sorts of things and decorating by faux painting, sewing, paper floors, etc. etc., but other than all my scarves, I haven’t tried to really sell my stuff. Besides, I sold only a few scarves because O am a flop salesperson and can’t toot my own horn withou feeling self conscious and uncomfortable, as well as vulnerable.
There u have it.

You will learn everything you need to know to build a successful niche website. Make sure to follow all of the training steps in order and don't skip any. If you have any questions as you go through the training, be sure to ask. I know you can do this!

Hi, Toujours5! i am glad to hear from someone who loves crafts also, although I have chosen my first niche as something else for now, but still something I am interested in. I figure since I want to learn more about it, it would be a great idea to choose it as my niche, so my readers basically will learn with me, and probably I will be able to give them more insight since I would be searching for and asking about the same things they would.

Just like you, at first I was a little lost, but I went through the lessons for the certification, I started to understand a bit better, it became clearer. I am on lesson 6, at the moment, and still not all there yet, but i am excited and it is all so interesting. please stick with it, and ask questions. oh, and keep going back and read or watched the videos over if you have to, it does start to make sense, I promise. Take care and good luck! Don't give up!

My daily focus is Kundalini Yoga and a yogic lifestyle as taught by Yogi Bhajan. I have been doing a powerful set of meditations he gave me when he was still alive, for over fifteen years now, that brought me out of the trauma of intense spousal abuse into heavenly realms where Gurus and saints revealed my lifetimes with them. I was Durga, the Mother of Jesus and integral to the lineage of the Sikh Gurus. I now call upon these Divine Entities and aspects of myself every morning to help me wash the world. Yet Kundalini Yoga is a huge set of teachings. I have written up yogic routines to do upon waking and before going to sleep at night. So I could do a site on yogic routines. And a website on healing yogic foods as taught by Yogi Bhajan. I also have much to offer in other ways, such as giving spiritual readings that reveal a person's highest purpose in life. I could use help deciding which niche is best to begin with.

Yes, after just two years of doing powerful Kundalini Yoga kriyas I came out of the deep trauma I was in from my last husband and began communing with Divine Entities from my past lives with ease. Now I call upon my lifetime as Durga during meditation to reach to heavenly realms where my spiritual work takes place. Jesus was my son, which is very different than being my partner in this endeavor. Jesus blesses my life with Divine Beauty. I need not call upon him. He is always with me.

I think it's difficult to choose something you are passionate about as your niche and make money. There are to competitive niches in which it very very difficult to get ranked and there are easier ones. For example, the topic I am passionate about is productivity and I've wrote quite a lot of articles on that topic and none of them ever got ranked.
While articles on other topics have been ranked better. It's easier to lose patience in an over-competitive niche where your articles don't ever get ranked.
I think that the best thing to do is to narrow down your niche

I mean this in a funny way; when I hear Kyle say niche, he pronounces it "neesh". So when I heard that, I thought wait- what? Have I been pronouncing it wrong my whole life? So I like the above definition illustration with the sound option. I'm from the southwest USA and we have been known to alter pronunciation of words. So after hearing dictionary.com's pronunciation, I feel better.

I am obviously a word nerd (I'm a teacher-I cannot help it!) and I find dialects interesting. I will keep saying it like 'nitch' knowing that we are trying to find something special that appeals to an audience.

As for musical instrument it can fall to many categories such as drums, guitars, keyboard and so forth. My question is should I select for example Musical Instrument/gear as my niche in general or just select a category of it. Is it possible to have niches fall on this general category (Musical instruments) that are sub categories of it? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)
Reply
You should start with one sub-niche, for example guitars ... In my opinion there are two factors that should influence your decision: you strengths and the targeted audience. You might know more about drums but probably there are more guitar users right?

What I'm trying to say: you need to find the optimal balance between these two factors. You need to be an expert in the given sub-niche and also, you want to target the largest possible audience ...

Try to bring these two factors together and you'll find the perfect niche for a good start.

I am thinking I want to help new and expecting moms with their newborn baby. My first thought was necessary baby items. There are a lot of things mom will want to get for baby. The video says to make the niche smaller. If we have to discuss the topic on our website, wouldn't a little broader topic make sense?
Reply
adreyna Premium
An example would be if you use "necessary baby items," you might start with baby cribs. As you create more and more content on the importance of a secure place for baby to sleep, you might look at different brands and types of baby cribs. Along that line would come sheets, blankets and other beddings. Developing that niche and doing quality research will take awhile. Yet, you will become an authority on the subject of "baby cribs." You can always add more related products once your site is developed and earning revenue. Hope this make sense.

PatPearce,
When I think about what you want for a niche, I think about how you can best help the new or expectant mom. For instance, Could she use a friend to lean on when she isn't sure about something concerning her pregnancy? Just because she may not know you, it might be easier for her to talk to someone who is not related in any way. You could also help her find services that might assist her with problems, by suggesting her local nursing services or hospital. Sometimes new moms or expectant mothers don't know where to turn to get answers.

Just some thoughts for you to ponder.

Then you could advise her on types of clothing, or diapers etc. You have a tremendous amount of necessary baby item to choose from. Go for it.

In fact, I really want you to help and orientate me well to succeed with my business by setting up the online business through a professional website. As I previously told you and Vitaliy, I am a Travel Professional specialized in river cruises as well as African safari trips.

So, to be clear, I feel that my true topics or business concepts now are river cruises and African safaris. I mean that I am going to sell travel. Actually, I am a Certified River Cruise Specialist with a badge for UNIWORLD River Cruise Line with several ships operating through renowned rivers in Europe, Africa, Russia and Asia. I am also a Kenya Authorized Travel Specialist, conceded a plethora of American Tour Operators to sell their products or tour packages to Kenya.

I feel that what I will need once I have completed my training at WA is the niche who are interested in my products or topics which I already have and I trust you.

So by all means, this is definitely a direction you could head here.

I started out doing Traveling with babies and then wrote a couple articles on tips for organizing kids thing like diaper bag, change table etc. My end goal is to build my site to have information about all aspects of babies (Feeding, teething, nursery decor and so on) and I'm having trouble coming up with articles in the Niche I have started with. I only have a hand full of articles published right now and I'm wondering if it's too soon to expand into another are such as feeding?

I believe whatever that are related to your niche you could include in your writing. Since feeding is one of the categories of your niche, I believe you may want to include it now.

hi, I came with intentions of doing makeup, but after the video, I'm thinking if I have to narrow down makeup or can I still do makeup on a whole, cause I would honestly rather do it on a large scale, where id be free to evaluate makeup on a whole and not just foundation, powder, concealer, etc?
Reply

It's best to start with a narrow niche as shown in the video. Once you build an authority site, you can always add to it later.
Reply
Think I'm not understanding something. Once I build a website and choose a niche, I can continue to write different things on that particular topic right? And, for a topic like makeup, i know its a bit broad, but choosing just one thing for example foundation, kills this whole zeal of the idea as I believe dealing with makeup is not just one aspect of it, its giving persons a more rounded answer to their question.

It sounds like you mean applying make-up, which would be somewhat different. This is especially true if you already have experience in that area. You're welcome to give an example of what it is you want to do with your niche and run it by this platform. I'm sure others, along with myself would be glad to help.

I think you are absolutely right. You would have more to talk about and plenty to review about but this is only in my opinion. You can ask others for their opinion.

To try to explain better, for people who wants to know stuff about makeup, it's not just based on one thing. I use makeup so I know a bit about it. if I'm searching to find makeup, and I'm not familiar with it, I would like to know about different brands, pros, and cons, what works best with what, also what may be a bit more hash than others...If you understand what I am saying. Makeup is a broad topic, but because of its nature or the way it works together, its hard to break into different parts. Do you think it will be a problem in doing makeup on a whole?

Hey, Kliscia I think that makeup is a specific niche and not to general. I think that can work perfectly fine. Once you are sure of who your specific audience is and it not to general. For example, if I wanted to do a niche in shoes, I will have to be more specific as to whether I want to do male of female shoes. Also what types of shoes, if its formal, casual, work, church, gym, or track.

In my opinion, I think that makeup is already a will targeted niche, it has it's audience, you already know who the product is for etc..

Don't just take my opinion only you can ask any of the experienced affiliates from the community and they'll be more than willing to help you

I know picking a niche is important and for that to be something done right off the bat without doing more research seems like putting the cart before the horse. I don't want to just jump in and pick one out right away because I will be putting time in that I don't want to be wasted when I find out that it may not be the right direction for me to take. I know I need to start somewhere but I would like to make the best-educated choice to start with. There may be almost 4 billion people online but a large amount of those people don't speak English :) So time is money and want to at least give myself a decent chance of success.

You can and will here. You can create more than one website. up to 25 websites I think. So don't spend to much time thinking about it. Choose what you are most passion about and use that to start with. You can build on it. Then later you can build another one. Start with the step by step training with Kyle and he will teach you everything you need to know about picking the right niche and building a website. After completing the training you can create another website and this one will not take as long. Hope this helps you.

Ok so I have 2 passions in my life and I love them equally. Playing video games (PS4), and fishing. For fishing I was thinking of going in the direction of my favorite lures with are crankbaits (square bill and lipless to be exact). For gaming tho im not sure what exact part of gaming I would choose as my niche, maybe thumb grips for the joy sticks? Any suggestions?
Reply

A couple of diverse niches there. You could look at controllers, ps4 accessories like chargers etc. Or skins for the machine itself? Maybe.

Yes, I like how you have narrowed down your fishing niche into something more specific. You could even head in either fresh water or salt water lures or crank baits.

Just choose one when starting out, you just want to avoid being too broad. You are doing great though Daniel!

Hi everyone....I have question....there are a few niches I am interested in, and since to start, since I should choose only 1, should I be going through the Jaxy training so that I could use the tools there to choose the niche most likely to be successful, first? I am afraid of picking a niche only to find out that there is less interest in it than I think or that it is harder to promote products that another niche I might have picked.
The niches I am considering are Personal Development....more specifically brain entrainment, subliminal audios, meditation etc.. (should each of those be a separate website?), coloring products (colored pencils, markers, coloring books etc..), Baby products (does each type have to be separate or can 1 website handle all?), and I'd also like to promote Amazon products that I have purchased and love....but don't all fit into 1 category so not sure about that. I also wondered about Vitamix vs. Blendtec blenders because I personally have owned both and feel I could really contribute an honest opinion. I was thinking if starting with the brain entrainment/subliminals because I am very passionate about how much they have helped me the last 6 months....but what do others think? I appreciate any suggestions anyone might have!

You are going to be performing research on the actual keywords that you target within the content in your niche, don't worry so much about keyword search volume when you choose your actual niche.

I wouldn't head into the personal development space as a whole as it is too broad, but I like how you have narrowed it down to brain entertainment, meditation, etc....those are all massive niches in themselves.

Vitamix vs. Blendtech, or blenders in general could be a niche and a direction that you could head. By all means.

You just want to choose one of these as the starting point for your business when you do start out. ;)
Reply
Jay Gumbs Premium
Karma, I like Kyle's answer and you should take that advice.

In addition, I'd like to offer my own insight. Definitely leave the keyword research until after you've chosen a niche. You can make money with anything at all online so one keyword can't give the whole picture to a niche.

I like personal development but that's very broad as Kyle said. You've identified a few segments of that industry and they could all be different niches that you can deal with separately.

Try to think of a niche in terms of what problem you can solve or what interest you can help people with. Subliminal audios for example is a solution for something. Find the problem behind this solution and you have a niche. You can have a website around subliminal audios but if you have a website around the problem instead, I think you will be more able to focus on the niche directly since a niche is a group of people.

For example, if you have subliminal audios for improving concentration then you have someone who is having trouble focusing on work or study who desperately needs help. Then, since you were wondering if you can use brain entertainment, meditation and subliminal audio on separate sites, you should consider that someone who wants to improve concentration may need brain entertainment, they may also need meditation as a solution and also subliminal audio and other solutions to help fix their problem. It all becomes clearer when you think in terms of the who (group of people) instead of the what.

Think about what problem you have personally used the subliminal audios for and you'll realize that there are probably millions of people (a niche) out there that need help with that problem too.

If you're going to do baby products, or Amazon products that you've personally tried, use a brandable domain name that doesn't restrict you too much. A domain like HappyCub dot com might start out as a baby stroller review website but then you could add other baby products and expand the website because the domain doesn't restrict you from doing that.

You could do the same for your blender example which is a great niche idea by the way. A domain name like BlendKarma might be a good name for a blender/juicing focused website. I incorporated your name so you can make it personal and brandable - it's available too.

It's not rocket science. Just pick one and start. You have some great ideas.

Thanks Jay! I really appreciate your response!

The part about thinking of the 'who' over the 'what'...as well as thinking about what problem it is I want to help solve, was especially helpful!!! In my case, when it comes to the brainwave entrainment, I was looking for some help with my anxiety. So, if I am wanting to pick that area to start, would my niche then be anxiety?....with the products being brainwave entrainment, subliminals, etc...? Those products are also used for many other things such as creativity, focus, etc.. Would I then be making different sites or different pages within my site for those?

Also, love the idea of BlendKarma!! When I did the lesson on setting up a website....I did pick a name that used my name....itskarmasreviews thinking it would be generic and able to promote anything....but if I use that for the brainwave entrainment/subliminal audio stuff, does that mean I can't use it for anything else? Or, should I be choosing a domain name & title that includes `anxiety' in it?

Thanks again!

Karma, I think you're starting to figure this out. You would be helping people just like you who have anxiety and don't know where to turn to fix it. Creativity, focus, anxiety - they may all be connected in some way so you can use pages on your site instead of making new sites but try to remember you're helping people with anxiety whenever you try to come up with content ideas. In any case, people with anxiety may have trouble focusing because of their condition or they may also have trouble with creativity.

I think your domain might be a little too generic but it could work for some things. Since you're now starting out, you shouldn't really trying to use one domain to promote "anything". You'll have a better chance at success if you focus on one topic for now. Your domain doesn't have to have the word anxiety in it.

Uggh...I am probably over thinking this but I can't figure out what specifically my niche is or what to call the site? I know I want to start with the brain entrainment/subliminals etc..audios and specifically to help people with anxiety and stress. What does that make my niche? As far as the name...I just don't know. Am I better off to go generic but specific like helpwithanxietyandstress or more personal like one with my name in it? Or, something totally different? You can always head that direction Marilyn. A lot of our members are promoting WA with great success.

Do you have in mind WHO you are going to promote WA to? You can promote it to the world but if you can be more specific of your audience, it's better as your content would be talking about helping these people.

Now Is it possible may be to write about something to test the audience and see if there would be any revenue, and if that doesn't work well or bring any thing , then I go back to the method which is in here?

I recommend starting a niche based on your passion - it takes 6-12 months to build enough traffic to start generating revenue, so there is no 'quick test' for interest.

Your niche can be anything and it's all up to you to decide what niche you want to pick. If you're not sure if it's the right one, you can always research to see if there's enough affiliate products to promote with. Jay just did a great webinar on this: If you want to test something out, I'm afraid it's hard to do because it will take a few months before you see any traction.

What you can do is just create a free site and then transfer it your own domain later when you're comfortable with your niche. At least this way you don't have to buy another domain if you don't like your niche.

If you want more in depth help on niche selection, please go ahead and PM me. :)

Hi there. Great video. I currently have two niches I would like to investigate- applying positive psychology and mindfulness in the classroom- aimed at educators, primarily aimed at reducing exam stress. Links to books, magazines, mindfulness apps etc. My other idea is Newbie Vegan UK- the idea is that a minimum of one each day I would review and try a vegan product that was new to me, that is available in the UK and give an honest review and product details. How do those ideas sound?

Thanks Jean. I wanted to break down Health Promotion to behavioral change, but that too is also too broad a niche. From my experienced as Health Promoter behavior change can refer to any transformation or modification of human behavior. It may also refer to: Behavior change (public health), a broad range of activities and approaches which focus on the individual, community, anti smoking campaigns and environmental influences on behavior. And they are so interconnected.

Thanks Lauren. I have already started with the website template. But i'll try my best to narrow it down as I go along and hope you guys will be there to help me.

Hi Francis!
I suggest you go through the lessons and learn how to narrow the niche.
There are a number of ways how you can do that!

For example, pick up the topic within the choices you mentioned in your question above.
Afterward, enter it into a search engine and check the results of what people are searching mostly within your preferred keyword. Afterward, keep searching within those results, etc.
You will find a very narrow niche! Thinks about niches as you would work with them in your real, off-line life!

Also, visit some biggest retail sites like Amazon, eBay, etc. and conduct some researches within your topic. You will find many examples of the narrow niches!

Another example: healthy eating is a great topic nowadays, which is obviously a very broad one. Try to think what you would be interested of within this niche? What kind of healthy food would you like to eat? Also, think about the various audience when speaking about the healthy food: kids, young people, older people, people with some illnesses, sportsmen, mothers, etc. Also, just fruits, or vegetables as healthy foods, and stuff like that!

The most important thing is that you pick up the niche you are best of and you have the most knowledge about it and you are passionate about it. Because, in the long term, it will be much easier for you to deal with!

I hope it helps!

First of all, thanks for a quite educative and informative session and video on niche. I strongly believe that a broad niche is an oxymoron. Niche always means narrow. A niche is an area or position that is exactly suitable for a small group of the same type. So there is no such thing as broad niche.

What are you passionate about? A niche can be what ever you make it. To answer you, the baby clothes would be general , the broader spectrum would indeed be better. Look at it this way, if your niche was cars for example, you could do articles about types of autos or tires for that car or what ever is pertaining to cars. Does that help?

Let me be sure I have this correct.

When I nail down a niche, I choose a single subject, then I link to various brands of that single object? For example (based on the baby example from the video) baby diaper is a niche, so I would link to different brands of disposable diapers and brands of cloth diapers? Maybe add links to diaper pails? Diaper specific soap? Diaper bags? But not branch out to baby bottles, clothes, toys, beds, etc. Keep that niche only on diapers and diaper related products?

Yes, depending upon the niche you can be slightly broader or narrower. You wouldn't want to simply choose sports or even basketball; but as Kyle presented, "basketball skills and drills" would be a great narrowed niche.

You, drill down as you have here. You don't want to be too broad with your niche as you will be in a constant state of "overwhelm" trying to deliver too much, to too diverse of an audience.

I think I understand a niche, but I'm having trouble choosing it. I have several facebook pages, RV boondocking, baking, homesteading. The RV page is most active and growing like wildfire right now. I can't figure out how to nail down a single item for any of them. Maybe camp cookware? camp generators, camp bedding? In the cooking dept I could use affiliate links for ingredients in the recipes? maybe mixers? bowls? baking pans? Do I need to zero in on one single niche or put links to various items? I'm leaning towards a couple of big ticket items like the generators on the camping site, and a ton of little items such as disposable baking pans on the recipe site. See what I was saying... I'm having a problem picking a single niche, so much to choose from that I can't limit myself to one.

I've also been working on writing eBooks and an e-course for new camper owners to teach them how different parts of the camper needs to be maintained, places to camp for free, etc. My idea is to use the books to lead them to a blog that will have affiliate links to the courses and items I promoted in the books. The facebook pages are active, the books, blog, & courses are still in my head.

Hi Verna,
In my opinion, for a website, RV’s are a niche within vehicles.
You could build a website and then categorize posts for your above ideas on there.
Reply

Those are some good niches to get into, you don't have to nail down one single item, choose one niche, for example, RV Boondocking (I had no idea what was,had to google it) and then write high quality articles about this niche, for example, these are some of the questions that popped up when doing a quick google search

how does boondocking work
how to find boondocking sites
how safe is boondocking
how to rv boondocking
how to find boondocking spots
how to go boondocking

write some quality content that google will love, get the traffic and then start monetising with affiliate links. Doesn't have to be just one item, you could suggest different camping gear, what gadgets will be helpful, equipment to boost mobile phone signals if you are in an area with weak signals etc.

I hope you get the idea. Just choose your niche (you have some great ideas) and go from there.

Thank you. Some of the posts lower down the page have advised to zoom in on a single niche to start with. I'm trying very hard to do that. The advice was to start with one and add others later. My problem is picking the one to start with. I think the decision is to go with the boondocking. That's where I'm having the most success with my facebooks groups so it will transition to a blog/website very well.

All 5 sound good to me. Just pick one.

Here's something to consider...

When I joined WA I had several niche ideas I wanted to promote. Which one did I choose? I chose my least favorite of the group. Why? Because I knew my first website would not be as good as all following websites.

Seeing how I was just learning everything new about building a website, I knew that there would be mistakes I made in building the site, after all, it was my first site and you cannot expect your first site to be perfect.

I also knew that eventually I would have a few different websites. So I saved my favorite niche idea for my third and beyond websites. I am not saying you should do this. I am just stating what I had done.

I have been looking into Amazon and Google and feel I have come up with a niche that can excite me and I have already been thinking about it, plus it is a product line I use on a daily basis: vegan superfood powders which go great in smoothies to make them powerfully nutritious!!! What do you think, and please what do others think? I totally appreciate the feedback.

Okay, here's a question for you. I realize "cat lovers" is a bit too broad a category. However, I have a book coming out this next week that is about a cat. I would like that book to be my first product. Then need to figure out exactly what part of a "cat lovers" niche that would be. Books about cats? That would be one possibility, I guess, but would like to include more variety on my site than just books. Advice, anyone?

Yes it is here are some ideas you can promote cat items like the different variety of food, their food bowls, clothes, collars, tags, their accessories etc...
try going to a pet store and brainstorm and things you could talk about for content/reviews.
I hope this helps you. If you need more ideas you can let me know and I will try my best to help you.

Would "cat lovers" be a good niche? Also, can we build two websites at once, or you recommend starting with one at a time? I would also like to do an "Alaskana" niche. Another question: Once we get through the entrepreneurial training and get our websites going, can we go back and do the bootcamp? I am guessing that within a niche, we can offer several different products. Is that correct?

A little advice please: Hello all, I am completely new to this; I have many interest/passions but am having difficulty with choosing a niche. I believe I am thinking to deep into this in terms of not FULLY understanding how affiliate marketing works in terms of the websites themselves...
I have been interested in Holistic Health overall for quite some time time, more specifically, holistic beauty and natural beauty products. Ayurvedic and natural hair care, even more specifically into certain demographics. I have no idea how to narrow this down to be able to focus on building a site!

Hello Ciara,
Does Holistic Health make you smile, do you think of the people you can help? If so, that may be your niche. I'm doing digital because that's what my domain name is and if I had Wealthy Affiliate when I bout that I would be better in building it. You need to have something that when you talk about it, the words just roll off the pages like your talking to a best friend. I hope this helps.

Another good video--thanks!
So, following your advice of completing this sentence, "I want to help people that ______________"
what do you think about me adding this in the blank "want to get organized" or "want to be clutter-free" or something along those lines.
Could narrow it down by adding "...at work" or "...at home" or "...at school" etc. or maybe, start with one of these areas and later add on the other areas.
I could write how-to's, give tips, strategies, etc as well as market tools and "gadgets" sold on Amazon and other such sites, to help with the organization need.
Am I even in the ball park of this niche concept?

Thank you for the awesome video and all the resources here at WA! I'm think of going with a "random acts of kindness" site and starting with a "kindness rocks" niche. I think that if I start with a site that has the ability to encompass a broad range of products, then create content concentrated on smaller things, I'll have room to grow and expand as a brand. Any thoughts?

Have you give a thought who will be your targeted audience? It is taught in the training that it is recommended to have a niche which has specific audience. If you are trying to have a broad range of products, the challenges are it takes a lot of efforts to get the site ranked and appear in Google. But if you have narrow it down to smaller audience and take advantage of certain keywords, your site might get ranked easier and faster.

All that I mentioned may sound foreign to you but all these will be taught in the training. If you follow the training and implement it to your site, you should see results.

All the best to you

:)

That's why I was thinking to start with the smaller niche of "kindness rocks". I know that smaller niches are best marketing wise. I guess I'm trying to look at more then the "right now" picture. As things/products change, I want to be able to change with them. I'm not an "eggs in the same basket" kind of person. Thus the idea of an actual brand verses just a niche. Is that a bad idea?

That sounds good. I need to figure out the same thing...bringing a very broad category down to something more specific. I like the idea of having room to grow, though.

Just be careful about making a product or a brand your niche. You want to choose an "audience" for your niche and within that audience, there are 1,000's of different products/services that you will likely be able to promote.

You are going to learn how to build a proper, sustainable, and authority based business here at WA. It will start with your niche selection though.

I have decided to choose a niche and want to check if people think it's a good choice. I have decided to go for classic football shirts, football (not soccer), as I have always been a football fan and I should have no problems writing content related to this niche. Is this too broad of a niche? Related question is that I am resident in the UK where football is national sport. I intend on selling all famous football shirts (not just English football shirts, but all countries), so was curious if .co.uk or .com domain would be best going forward? Does it matter?

Hi,

What I understood from this lesson is that Health & Fitness can be a niche, but it is recommended to start with a such vast one? It's recommended to start, for instance, in the niche "Running" (it is a niche right?)?

I would like to receive your recommendations please.

Thank you all.

Cheers.

Yes, health & fitness is far too broad, running is better.
Reply
cramervod Premium
What about health and fitness interests you? What you are aiming for is a group of people that have specific problems you can find solutions for. For a group of runners, you want to narrow it down first to which gender, age, income level, how long have they been a runner, and so on.

That is how you find a niche which is a targeted audience for your website. But before you do that you really need to understand the niche enough to figure out what you are looking for. i.e. You either have experience in it, you have a passion to learn about it, you're a runner yourself and know tips and such...

After that, if you would like to move forward, start to come up with an outline of your site. This means you will be adding content on the site that will be focusing on the big problems which you will be solving and anything else that will help you to assist the targeted audience.

I'm glad I watched this video. For me, it busted some personal misconceptions I had about niche businesses.
1. I used to think niches were only for experts.
2. I used to think that if you were in one niche then that was all you did.
3. I used to think that a niche was exclusive, that it only worked if only very few people were doing it.

I wonder if other people had these same misconceptions?
Reply
Kyle Premium
So glad it broke up these misconceptions. The one thing that lots of people worry about is the idea that they are not an expert. However, NOBODY starts off as an expert at anything...any expert you see now was once a complete newbie in their space.

The path going from green within a topic to an expert is much quicker within the online world because of the amount of information available to all of us (and the fact that your website can become a true platform to communicate and engage with your audience).

Almost every established brand and all of their products will be available for affiliates to promote. You can promote over 550 MILLION Products/Services as an affiliate.

There is no point in trying to get a company to set up an affiliate program if it is very technical to set up an affiliate program and if a company doesn't have one, move on. There are 10,000's of affiliate programs out there and MILLIONS of products that you can promote as an affiliate.

So I wouldn't bother in this scenario, all sorts of things would have to be set up (tracking/etc) which is a lot of work and a company is not going to do something like that for you unless you have an establish brand/authority in a niche.

No, it doesn't necessarily make more. It depends on you and the business you create. If you want to create a successful business within the photography niche, you can. Yes, films are always popular. With such a big industry, you probably should narrow it to a certain genre. What are your favorite kinds of movies? Action, comedy, romance, family, sci-fi? Or you could creatively categorize it differently to still include several genres. For example, if someone loved Tom Hanks, they could capitalize on all of his movies in various genre. Just an idea.

You don't want to limit your content to just one program. Ideally you want to do what WA sort of teaches for the affiliate bootcamp but in your self help niche. You can review and write about many self help products but have 1-2 that you highly recommend as alternatives or in addition to the ones you may be reviewing that you don't have a relationship with. So it's the best of both worlds. But you want to review and write about any new product or service related to your niche since it will help you get traffic. Basically following what the training teaches us.

My family and I live on a farm, and would like to hit just about every market for farm life and our extracurricular activities. Which sort of ends up meaning, our niche is expansive. I've thought about creating either hub pages or websites that hit each thing individually. Cooking/baking, gardening/canning, sports/camping, animals/butchering, children etc.
The website name i want has a lot of the dot __ for my specific categories actually. WHich is what gave the idea to have individual pages and then use social media to broaden the audience. IS this not recommended?

I would recommend to start with a targeted and specific niche instead of having everything all together. But you can choose a more generic and broader domain name so that when you want to include more relevant niche, you can easily do so.

Having a narrower and more targeted niche allows you to see results much faster.
Reply
Would creating many websites for specific things not work to do that?

Ill use an example website name (because i like mine and don't want people to see it! ;) )

example.farm
example.outdoors
example.family
example.cooking

all of these domain names were available- and at low cost. I'd like to create a social media site with the prime name of example and then have links to the websites for specific information on the topics. But my page would hit the farming/outdoors/cooking topics if searched on social media. I'd keep things separate but all under like an umbrella name. So people eventually would know they're all the same creator. Is that a bad thing? Letting your audience know that you have multiple connected sites? Is it better to make them all different and not clearly created by the same person? My actual niche would be farm life more or less. Because everything I've mentioned is related to living on a farm. Even camping. I don't know anyone that owns a farm that doesn't camp or hunt even.

I would strongly encourage you to get one site up and running well first. While I understand what you are trying to do (sounds like a great idea too!), each website is far more work than you initially think it will be.

Get one up and running well. Then, if you enjoyed the process AND have the time go for more. Over-reaching kills many new sites because of the shear volume of work that is necessary to make a site a success.

Best of luck to you!

I know choosing is should not be that complicated, but should I choose a niche that I love or the one that is profitable.

For example, the niche that I am thinking is leadership. I don't think there are lots to sell on that niche except books. Are there affiliate programs on selling conference tickets, private courses, schools, etc?

There are tons of courses and other items to promote on clickbank .
Create a free account and then go to marketplace. Search the niches on the left and find the offers in the niche you are interested in. Then make your decision .
I would lean towards something you are passionate about because it will much easier to create content .
If you choose a niche based solely on promotions it may get difficult to come up with relevant blog post content after a short time.

I struggled with this for a while when I first started out in the online world. But, now I actually know what I am going for outside of what i'm already doing. My niche is going to be food, but narrowing it down to living a vegetarian (not vegan) lifestyle! It's real life for me and a new exciting journey that I have been on for about 7 months now...it'll be fun to continue down this path!

Great new information. I already have some niches but like another post I read, in the back of my mind I felt too many people are making money from those niches and it was hindering me from moving forward. Because there are so many people working from home these days who would buy from me if I had the same niches as other! But, I am going to become an affiliate of WA because I need another honest business to put on my website of home business ideas and opportunities.

I just started learning about affiliate marketing a few hours ago. Right now (early in my training), what makes picking a niche intimidating to me is as soon as I narrow down a few ideas I instantly start thinking about the content and images and all the things yet to come. This then causes me question my niche selection.

I suggest you take it one step at a time. Choose your niche and allow yourself to grow into it one step at a time. Am sure you will figure the rest out as you go. After all the idea is to earn while you learn.

Yes!!!! I totally get this, and can't wait to get started because I can see how I am going to never stop loving the journey of promoting my niches. An article from a fellow WA member gave super advice on finding a niche: just look around your home, finding the interesting things you own that excite you, that you collect, that you find uniquely beautiful or satisfying. Boom! You've found the topics you can set up niche sites for and write about till the cows come home. Thank you!!

Yeah, that is the thing. You choose a niche that you love working within, you will have a really exciting and fun journey ahead of you. One that doesn't feel like work!

Hello all, I just finished the module on niches, and have narrowed it down to three...I wanted to ask you all what you thought and if they were viable options:
1) press-on nails - I'm kind of obsessed with these and have tried different brands enough to narrow it down to a favorite. This particular brand doesn't have an affiliate program yet though.
2) coffee - something I need to function on a daily basis, I enjoy trying different brands and trying it at different locations.
3) cleaning products - when I find a product I love, I am excited to share it with others.

Do any of these sound good to anyone?
Thanks for your help!!

I love the first 2 ideas... hate cleaning hahah! I too am obsessed with nails so I think this is a nice one and of course you cant go wrong with coffee!! However, as a niche, I would go with the nails!..... just make sure the glue is decent... nothing worse than 2 hours after application and one pops off! It was the reason I went off them! Best of luck!

Totally love the idea of creating a Niche or two to start.....
one difficult thing is I've got a broad Niche, which is general health - including mental health. I've got a decent list of things I could try to sell, and plenty that I could say about certain topics or products.

(Actually, I have my own blog, too. It is a personal blog that includes much about mental health. Good Nutrition, exercise and mental health are important to me, so I'll write about things like that in my blog [still working on it.....] I will try to include my blog in my profile - if my free membership allows.

Anyway, is it necessary for me to narrow down my Niche?
So far I am interested in promoting, writing about and selling information and products about a variety of health factors:
- Mental health
- Nutrition and Exercise
- Environmentally friendly and very chic hair, skin and beauty products
- environmentally friendly cleaning products
and last, but not least, to promote but also to research and learn more for myself....
- HEALTHY SKIN! Minimizing eczema!!!!! Eczema has disrupted some of my happiness. the only way for me to get it under control is to get ointments from doctors. SO, the more i research it and find quality info. and products to sell, the better off I - and other people dealing with eczema - will be......

Here's some things I recommend based on the list you provided Jill:

-how to deal with depression.
-how to reduce stress.
-how to get rid of belly fat.
-how to get rid of cellulite.
-hair loss for women.
-anti aging tips for women.

I would pick one of these, the one you like most and go from there.

I appreciate the information shared in the video. Very informative. I stumbled onto this site and video from an embedded link in another post as I was researching info on publishing Kindle books. I am very passionate about sharing with others what my husband and I believe, have experienced and have learned about NOT having to pay for our children's college educations. If we could somehow make money while doing this, it would be AH-MAZING! Could this be our niche?

I appreciate this forum and am so looking forward to feedback from this community.

Getting back to work now after a relocation and with a heart attack in the midst of it all. Now, I have chosen my first niche which is an interest I've had for a long time: Woodworking. Specifically sourcing woodworking tools, both hand tools and power tools. Looking forward to setting up a site very soon.

Really interesting video. And all comments are really good.
I want to create a site that empowers mum's to earn a living from home. I am a mum that really struggled as my children were growing up. Couldn't work because nurseries were to steep and what ever I earned would all go to paying nursery. We had to live on my husbands income and it wasn't enough to cover all expenses.

Absolutely a direction! If you are going to head in that direction I would recommend that you head through the Affiliate Bootcamp as that is the direction that you want to head if you are interested in a niche that is related to "make money".
Reply
Thanks for the advice.
So the one I am doing now is not applicable to what I want it for?
Does it matter if I do it anyway?
I really want to learn all of it.

So, I understand the overall concept of how this works but I do have one question: What keeps an individual from leaving my website or niche and going directly to the vendor (Amazon, Walmart, etc.) Example; in the last video you mentioned baby items, lets say my niche was baby wipes. On my website the icon for Amazon is listed there. Why wouldn't the person just go directly to Amazon in the url instead of clicking the link? And I am asking this assuming a person might think they are paying less for the item if they are not going through a "second hand" person so to speak.
I am also assuming if you do not click on the link and go search Amazon after finding the product on an affiliate site, you would not earn the commission on that product.

I would say that your visitor will find that the price of the article would be the same, whether going through your link or going directly. In order to have them click your link, WA teaches you to make professional product reviews, that go beyond what Amazon would advertise. The right reviews will convert.
Reply
AffTraining Premium
You raise a good point! You're absolutely right in that some people do not click on the links and just go to Amazon on their own. However, this isn't as much of an issue as you might think, especially as you start getting a lot of traffic to your site. Also keep in mind the number of people using smartphones and tablets over desktops and laptops continues to rise. It's just easier to click the link in most cases.

Amazon sort of makes up for this as well. You get commissions on ANYTHING sold. For example, I have a site, DogFoodInsider.com, which reviews dog food and uses the Amazon Associates program to earn revenue. However, I receive commissions on much more than just dog food. In just the past 30 days, I've sold everything from dixie cups to clothing and even a gas grill. Amazon is really, really, really good at converting visitors into sales. Most people already have an account with Amazon, and as long as you "get them in the door" so to speak, there is a decent chance they will buy something. When I send someone over for dog food, they might decide to think about it, but also remember they have other things to buy.

So, to answer your question, it's true that some people will not click your affiliate links, but it's not really that big of an issue.

Hope this helps!

that was allso my question. but reading the answer gives me the following problem, i blog a few years now about make up and beauty products and still no clicks to my links! so how do i write good revieuws?

You can definitely head in the video game direction, but you will want to narrow it down a little. What aspect of video games (the games themselves, devices, externals, hardware, etc)? What genre? What console? What game? Lots of ways you can narrow things down here.

Thinking about getting into recording studio equipment. I’m an aspiring audio engineer so the niche was pretty easy to choose. There are a ton of studio starter kits on Amazon that would be great for novices who can record podcasts and set up their own studio at home without paying thousands of dollars.

Sounds like a potential niche to go for Khalidah. Leverage your expertise and experiences as audio engineer and write content and reviews which studio equipment is good for different groups of buyers would definitely help people to choose what product they need to consider.

Sure, I would focus on either dental and health. And you might want to zero in on a more specific location, for example, in the US it will be much different than in Canada, which is much more different than the UK, Asia, etc.
