What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Argh i'm stuck in the point of choose my niche, the video mentions about choose the niche based in what you love, what is your passion but what about my passion is the graphic design? c'mon i think there's a million of options, not only graphic design and that's my headache: i don't know what anything else could sell to start looking for my niche and it's so overwhelmed for me, I don't even have an idea of where to start

Don’t over-analyze, don’t over-think, overcome the analysis paralysis choosing any topic you want, whatever related to Graphic Design and write posts as tips or reviews of related affiliate products. Don’t try to be perfect, just do it!

I have an idea for a niche but I would like this panel's opinion on it :)

I've been reading manga (Japanese comics) for years and so far, I've been satisfied with fan translations on free sites. My half-sister, however, find more value in reading the paperback manga as in, she's willing to pay for a physical copy of an official, translated manga. I thought about doing a niche on paperback manga after remembering this fact but then I'm afraid I won't get business because people are always looking for a free solution and there's a lot of fans translating manga for free and distributing for free. However, I ended up doing some digging and I found out it's not only my half-sister that looks actively for paperback manga. The community is promising but I'm hesitant to go for it, knowing full well the presence of free online sites.

It seems silly that I'm afraid but I'm just putting myself out there after seeing how helpful this community is.

it might be worth narrowing it down a bit more - unless you know about all of the styles of manga and selecting one or two to concentrate on at the start.
Good luck

I'm very into the outdoors lifestyle so I would like my first niche to incorporate a product or products about this, maybe equipment, clothing etc. Is it best to stick to just one product or can I choose to promote multiple products as there are so many in this category?
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hello from Nottingham! The outdoors is a very broad niche, so you need to narrow that down first to whichever aspect you enjoy the most and can help people with - camping, hiking, mountaineering etc. You can then promote as many products as you wish, providing they relate to the niche you have chosen.

Some narrowed-down ideas I could think of for the outdoors:
kayaking
hiking
gardening
running
E-biking
cruise ship vacations (you seem interested in this topic)
yard games (such as bag toss, ladder golf, etc.)

Thanks for the advice Diane, I think I’ll concentrate on the hiking niche 👍🏻 So much to learn about but it’s exciting

Can you guys help me please setting up this idea I’m totally new and I really need also to make some money at this time because I’m really broke.

Your kind understanding is really appreciated.

I'm not sure whether or not the cruise industry has any affiliate marketing offers but you could certainly be creative. If you look hard enough, you'll probably find some offers in the cruise industry but here are some other ways you could approach this.

I've heard that many airlines and hotel booking sites have affiliate offers. What you could do is send your readers an affiliate link to your airline of choice when you are trying to get people to go on a cruise some place that requires plane travel.

Another way, and probably better way, is to review and talk about things that go well on a cruise. Like make a blog post later on along the lines of "Top 10 Things you need to know before going on a cruise" or like "Top 10 items you should get before going on a cruise" and then just link the products you talk about.

The third way if you want to get spicy is to directly contact the cruise businesses once you get traffic (a lot of people) and tell them that you could drive people to their business if they pay you money every month.

Those are just some ideas and I hope that opens up your mind a little on what you could do with your niche. Just remember that everything is hard work and long term and it may not be a good idea to expect to make money right off the start. Good luck!

The niche I would like to use is disability aids to make life easier for disabled people, as I have a disability myself and am always on the lookout for things to make my life easier. I'm just wondering if it's too broad or if it's ok? Thanks in advance
Reply
JeannineC Premium
You have some options here. You can keep it broad, in which case I would suggest having categories based on type of disability. Otherwise you can focus in on a specific type of disability on a single site; in that case I would suggest having a series of sites, each one on a specific type of disability, and linking them together to create a network.

I am very interested in health, wellness and exercise, as well as my dogs, lol. I am currently a MLM for a health and wellness company and wonder if there is a way that I could incorporate this company into home gym equipment or something along these lines, is that not specific enough?
Reply

You can but keep in mind that affiliate marketing and MLM or Multi-level marketing are two different things, so two different target audiences. Affiliate marketing is a system where you earn a commission promoting other people’s products and MLM as you know is a system where you earn a commission selling products through distributors you must recruit.
Following you will find a link of a post from Nathaniell comparing these two types of Marketing:

The key when building a business online (or offline) is building a focused audience and brand through helping people within a certain niche. It is very difficult to make a product/service your niche and that is the reason people that are within MLM don't actually have a business, they are reliant on the MLM itself versus their own brand/foundation.

You are going to learn how to properly build a business online here at WA in any niche. Within that respective niche, you are going to be able to promote many different products (PRODUCT included). This will position you for much longer term success and a great deal of long term sustainability with your business.

If you can help people, you can create a long term business doing so.

Here is my idea based on personal experience. I would like to start a site discussing products and services to help people recover from concussion. I had a very complex case of post-concussion syndrome for 3 years (bike accident April 2016) and it nearly ruined my life. I still have to follow certain treatments to keep symptoms away. People who don't recover within several weeks are treated poorly by doctors (outright accused of faking it or mental illness) who can't do much to help them. It really requires a lot of research and finding products/services that will work for each individual.
How would something like this go over?

Hello! We have similar ideas. My son had a traumatic brain injury in 2009. The last 10 years have taken us through many ups & downs. You are so right, sadly, that people with head injuries do not get treated properly. I applaud your efforts! I think is is an AWESOME niche. God Bless!

Thank you! Best wishes for your son. The most helpful things for me have been seeing a functional neurologist (very expensive & naturally not covered by insurance) and a wearable device that sends photo neutrons into my brain. I use it 20 minutes a day, great results from many, many lingering issues over 3 years. Sorry he's had to deal with this so long!

Selecting a niche is as overwhelming as was stated! I have always been kind of a technology geek with Apps that turn my lights on, to neck contraptions that hold my phone in place while I watch a movie or even owning robo-vacuums! I guess the best way of describing it is by saying that I like gadgets! With that said, how can I move forward with this interest and turn it into something for a website? Is there anywhere I can see if these are trending upward and worth creating as my niche market?
Reply

Without even investigating try out this thought. There is billions of people out there and millions who like technological gadgets. Search out the gadgets you really like and see what is out there on the net.

And by the way if you discover a house cleaning drone let me know as we have really high ceilings that are hard to dust!:)

All of those are great niches. Some people believe (and I tend to agree) that choosing the affiliate marketing niche is best done after you have successfully developed a niche website first. Otherwise, you are creating a website teaching people how to do something you haven't been successful with yet. It certainly can be done if that's where you want to start, though! It just may be quite the challenge since you have to really learn something well before you can write about it. But if you have some other niche interests, they may be better choices because you can use that niche to learn the ins and outs of affiliate marketing, which will make you more knowledgable and credible if you choose to start an affiliate marketing site down the line. Just my thoughts and certainly not a rule if that's where your heart is leading you to start.

Couple things you can do to decide between your other interests is run those niches through google trends to make sure they are going up, or at least steady.

You can analyze the competition a bit to see if you have a ton of big names to compete against. Some niches are super competitive--not that you can't or shouldn't try to break into those niches, but it's just a good idea to understand that going in to see if you're up for that with your first website.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those niches you listed. Which would be the most fun for you to write about? Which can you generate a long list of content ideas for?

Am going through the course lessons - Now deciding on a niche.
My question is... Once I have a niche. How will I know if that product(s) are part of an affiliate marketing company that is selling them. Secondly when my website directs traffic to the seller's website and initiate a sell - how and where does the commission funnel back to my site?
Thx

Most of the niches have products you can promote. For example, if your niche is about flowers, you can promote books or courses about gardening, tools for gardening, etc.
Amazon affiliate program is very popular so you can check out if there are products there you can promote.

I'm not sure what you ask in your second question. How can they track that the commission came from your site?
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - there are tens of thousands of affiliate programs, which offer practically every product you can think of. When you have chosen your niche, you can search in Google by typing in niche + affiliate programs.

Once you have been accepted to an affiliate program, the links they supply to be added to your site, have your ID embedded in them. This tracks when a customer has clicked through from your site. Each affiliate program has its own method of payment to pay your commission, you would need to read their terms and conditions.

Go to major companies like Amazon, Walmart, Target or wherever you would go to purchase that product and see if that company has an affiliate program. The best way to find that out is to use Google to make your query.

I am really big on entertainment (TV, Movies, Games, etc), but I think that is too broad, so I would probably focus on games from the newest consoles (PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch). Hi Kyle and everybody..
Thinking about a niche, me being a doctor and my interests (health, nutrition, sports, yoga, natural stuff..) I could come up with something; but first, I need to understand a couple of things first please. What about the “writing” part? Coz I’m not really a good writer myself; I mean, I write in good English and all but to write long paragraphs and all.. it’s not my thing. I might even find myself boring 😂 So, will I have to write regular blogs on my website or just simply respond by comments on potential clients’ posts? Or write reviews (maybe paraphrase others’)? What’s it exactly please?
Also, will the website be used to promote only one niche? A whole website for a few (possibly one) products? For example, TVs and home theater systems, would be in the same niche?
Reply

Hi Rami and welcome to WA
Don't get too worried about your niche.
Write a list of things you enjoy as you have written here then pick your no.1 choice and make this your niche.
Yes, you are going to write content however these will be written in small paragraphs as you will learn as you go through all the training so my advice is to relax, get into the training and do what is taught step by step and the picture will become much clearer
Go well

That’s a high demand niche! You should work on all of three, write posts, reply to your audience and write affiliate products reviews. All of them are important, but even though you don’t reply or review, you must write posts consistently. You must work on one niche only. You can promote several or many products in the same niche and yes, tv and home theater are in the same niche.

Well I know this may seem like a lazy choice because it's literally the first product you see when pressing play on the video but as a father of 2 children under the age of 2 diapers have became our #1 product in our house hold. As I took a minute to think about it the amount of diapers sold by Amazon alone are absolutely staggering and with a some what high price tag taking a percentage off of the sale could over time become very lucrative.... I hope lol.

Any opinions on my choice would be greatly appreciated.

About 4 years ago, my wife and I moved to the country and started a hobby farm, and people always seem to be fascinated by the things we do here. I would love to write about my beekeeping, gardening, chickens, brewing, fermenting, foraging, permaculture projects, etc. I know this seems pretty broad, but I don't know that I could write about only one of these topics and stay motivated for very long. The first level/phase of both OEC and Bootcamp are included in your starter membership. If you want to continue through the training beyond that, it is within the Premium.

It is $19 the first month, then it is $49 per month after the first month. This includes absolutely everything you need to create and grow a business online from the training, weekly live classes, he support, the tools, the websites/hosting, the mentoring, network, exclusive access to all updates...you name it.

We also have a 6 month option for $234 which works out to be $39 per month when paid in full, and a yearly option of $359 which is a big discount and that works out to be $29 per month when paid in full. You can choose either or.

Hope this helps you out Motshidisi and if you have any further questions let me know.

Hi Sandra-mari,

You can start with a free domain and get your own domain name once you're 100% sure which name you want.

Once you know which name you want, you can purchase it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

When you have your own domain name, it's not recommended to change it afterwards because that will affect Google rankings.

That being said, I recommend picking your own domain name as soon as possible because one ranking factors in Google is domain age. So, the earlier you pick your domain, the better. Then it starts gaining authority in Google's eyes.

Your niche is not the product you are selling typically, rather it is the audience interested in something or needing help with something.

Jewelry has MANY different niches within it. What type of jewelry, and who do you want to help find jewelry?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Hi @Kyle,

Welcome to WA, choosing a niche can seem to be a hard thing to do but really all you have to do is think of something you enjoy doing or talking about. The training you will get from WA explains everything you need to know in regards to start helping people online and make money. It isn't something that will happen over night but as long as you are constant and don't give up it will come. Also, I think that a niche in CBD Hemp Oil will be great! It is rapidly growing in popularity in the US so I say go for it.

Best of luck,
Steph

My niche idea that I think I'm going with is strategy games. Initially I plan on doing strategy board games, but I plan on leaving the website name slightly on the vague side (e.g. Strategy Gamer) to leave open the possibility to expand into strategy video games once I know more what I'm doing. Any thoughts on this plan / idea would be of interest to me.

I'm also thinking about something related to games. Strategy board games will always be there and is a very nice videogame genre - games like LoL and DoTA prove how big the market is. IMO, go for it!

Hello Kyle. After watching the video I believe I want to go into camera equipment. I have worked in the television industry for over 20 years so it is something I know and have enjoyed. But is camera equipment too broad? Should I narrow it to certain cameras or audio equipment? Or maybe just microphones. Thanks again.

Hello,
I'm not Kyle but I'd like to chime in here. If you can narrow it to a more specific group, you'll have an easier time ranking for and selling to that niche (i.e. less competition). Can you target a more specific group such as video equipment for professional productions or something like that (you know, differentiate between the home videographer and the professional)?

I have a few ideas. I am a little confused as to choosing. Should I go more specific or is it good to have a little variety and be more broad-based? Also I know we are given two websites with the intro version. Should we choose two different niches? I also like the bootcamp but you suggested we go one direction and not take on both. Is that just at the beginning until we get the hang of it? Is it something we can pursue later? Thanks so much!
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - generally more specific is better, but that doesn't mean restricting yourself to just one product. Remember, you will be writing lots of articles on your chosen niche, so make sure there is enough to talk about, and that you won't get bored with.

The training is quite intense, and it would be difficult to apply to two websites at the same time, so just work on one to start with.

You can certainly pursue the bootcamp training if you wish, but again not at the same time. Both training courses start off broadly similar, but the bootcamp goes much more in-depth into money making online and the promotion of WA itself.

Hey guys,
I have an idea, since I am an athlete and I know a lot about my body, I can always help my friends and family with stuff like back pain, muscle tightness etc., using foam rollers, massage balls and things like that. Do you think that would be a good niche, building a website around helping people to basicly help themselves using products like foam rollers and stuff?
Thanks for your opinions!

Who specifically do you want to help with insurance? What type of insurance? You could use this niche, but don't force yourself into doing something that you don't really feel all that committed to just because you have overspent on something related to it in the past.

I thought I’d chosen my niche but am wondering if Eco Friendly Products is too broad? I love anything to do with saving the planet so would find it hard to scale my niche down into something very specific say to just Eco Friendly cleaning products or Eco Friendly Supplements. Please can the community advise me on how best to move forward as I’m keen to progress with the WA training and start building my website, but want to make sure I’ve nailed my niche first before progressing 😊

Eco Friendly niche is good but you got to narrow it down to the specific products or have a specific target e.g women, children, elderly, nursing mom etc. Yes you can choose either cleaning products, beauty products, supplements and offer different advise on how to use them and then do some product reviews to boost your affiliate marketing.
Reply
feigner Premium
you could narrow down at the start to one area of eco friendly products.
use google to show you the most searched for topics.
once you have gained traction in this one area then move onto the next, the basics have been done so the next will be easier, then the next, etc
this way you will cover what you want but in a way that allows you to get noticed rather than trying to spread your articles over too broad an area.
good luck

Newbie looking for some guidance from the community. My mind is spinning right now but trying to bring it in to focus after the video. Thinking of cardio equipment as a niche. Two questions come to mind. #1. Is the niche too broad or should I focus on a specific area such as eliptical trainers? #2. Does the shipping cost weigh in to the decision of the niche? Obviously those who may order an eliptical trainer are going to pay more shipping than those buying a book. Thoughts??

Hey there, I don;t think cardio equipment is too broad.. you could write posts that go narrower but I think it is ok.. for example - you could write about best cardio equip. for men, ladies, new mothers, teenagers, athletes and so on..

And yes, larger items may sell less due to shipping etc.. but you could also write a review of the books and sell them too.. There are so many cross sells such as the right sneakers to wear, the best clothing for cardio - tight? Lose? etc and reccomend them too..

Hope that didn't add to your overload but I think that is a good niche..

Great questions. The one thing you want to keep in mind is that you will have to write a lot of content around your niche. Can you write that much about just cardio equipment? If you write great reviews about cardio equipment, it will entice people who are into working out to buy the equipment, regardless of the shipping cost. Content on your site is key. I hope that is helpful. Wishing you all the best.

Kind regards,

Selecting a niche was overwhelming for me. I have several websites and I'm unhappy to say that none of them are in place on the net making any money. I went with different niches and decided on pet products and then realized (and learned from this video) that pet products is too broad of a niche, so I decided on just products for dogs and cats, but was given advice that that also is too broad. I wanted to find out how much of a commission I could make on items sold cheaply and items that had a high price tag. I've learned now not to stress or over think it and go with what I have a passion for and that can bring me a decent commission per sale. How to make money online is a great niche and is a way to attract readers (that can potentially turn into customers) as people can always learn something new when reading or re-reading.

I have been wondering about that as my 2nd niche and I really believe that making money online will be a great one. even though it has a high about of traffic there are so many friends and family that really do feel the same as me about being over worked and under paid. I really think that will grow quicker than this first one and I hope to be a WA affiliate partner soon. I'm still going through the training but once I'm done I'll jump over to the start and into the boot camp!!!

Good luck to you! Wish you the best! People love to read new info or anything they haven't read before in the past about making money online. I think it's a growing and expanding niche and bringing in the experiences of being overworked and underpaid, it sounds to be a winner to my ears. People need help to be their own owners of their income making and strategizing tactics, so if others can become successful without having a boss for overhead, then it's value worth reading.

Hello Carolyb. I in a similar situation as you. I just started here on Wealthy Affiliate this past 1st of May. I was super excited, then once I so how much information, tools and learning it was going to take, I became a lil bit overwhelmed.
Yet, I keep my excitement, and I advise you to do the same.
For the niche, I also had the same reaction as you did. But I decided to just make a choice. Above all, I think the most important thing is to make a choice on a niche that you will be able to communicate, connect and willing love to help people. The rest will come. I believe that as you go on through the training you will learn lots of technique on how to make the best out of your niche.
And if it's still so confusing for you, just go for promoting Wealthy Affiliate, is what I have decided to do. When you go to the boot camp, you will learn more about how to make the most of out your niche. Much courage to you Carolyb. You wish you all the best.

So I have a couple of ideas but just having a little difficulty narrowing them down. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 2 so I have lots of knowledge on raising children and raising them alone. What I would like is to have a site where parents can come and get advice but also be able to vent about their frustrations with parenting and not be ridiculed about it. I also suffer from Social Anxiety and Depression which gets worse and worse every year that I get older but the more I thought about having a site about this the more I think that wouldn't be a good one because I am not a doctor so my advice and stuff probably wouldn't be something that someone is looking for. The final thing is I am a couch potato and love watching movies (mainly) and T.V. shows. I mean I love it so much that there aren't very many movies that I haven't seen already. I watch them as soon as they come out in theaters or on demand and sometimes I watch them online (don't tell anyone else that because I could get in trouble for that, lol). I am just not sure how to narrow them down because movies is definitely too broad of a term and so is children or babies. I currently have a website where I sell maternity clothing and baby items but I don't really think that I would be very good talking about Maternity fashion. I mean I have troubles coming up with product descriptions for the items I sell so I am very skeptical about starting a blog about that. What would you advise? I am currently viewing all the links that were provided in the comments so hopefully that will help a bit. Thank you!

So basically a niche is what you are selling, but not literally just in an advertisement, but the products are for sale. I need to find a niche that is important enough to me, something I know about but that is also in demand. See I am a full time Barber Stylist so I understand this method, I just want to make sure that what I'm marketing is worth marketing online.

A niche is the "audience" that you will be helping. When you can help someone, you can then build trust and make product/service recommendations (the selling part).

There is demand in absolutely ANY niche. All are profitable, we have to remember that there are 4 BILLION people online. ;)

2: {Aniversary gifts for her and him - as many people (myself included) are clueless as to what to get our partners and don't want to ruin the surprise by asking them}

Would you guys recommend more specific niches to start with as in specific items?

Great Information guys.
You say do something your are intersted in, but in the initial emails I got you say you don't have to be an expert "you become one" as you build your business.
So do we do something we are interested in just to get going whilst we are learning affiliate marketing and then move onto other things even if we have no knowledge of them?.

I ask because if my passion is something that is not going to be very profitable, surely I would want to be doing something that would be?.

I have a love of Birds, so I could sell bird cages for instance or parrot toys, those things won't really make me lots of money, but i would have thought niches in Golf, fitness and football for instance should, if done right be more profitable.

Hope you can see where i'm coming from, just trying to get my head around all this lol.
Thanks

I would always say Mark that profit should always come before passion. However if you're passionate about birds then a site about birds and keeping them fit and feeding them properly and what they need Could be profitable. However It will be unlikely to make as much as you could make in the make money online niche for instance or fitness. It doesn't mean that it will make a full-time living
Reply

I think you have to be passionate in at least a certain aspect of the niche you're in. It doesn't have to be everything, but it helps to get you started.

I'm interested in mental health topics but unless I'm a doctor, I can't write from the point of authority. So, I share my view as someone who has gone through struggle and help people along the way.

Does it make money? Probably not, because most of the readers are struggling on their own and trying to get self-help that are free.

But the website has to be profitable, and for me, I started to write articles that will bring in money, such as aromatherapy and supplements.

To be frank, I knew nothing about essential oils, nootropics and stuffs like panax ginseng. I'm not an expert in that area.

But sometimes you have to write what you're passionate in and what you have to do to be profitable.

And unless you start writing and publishing, you won't know how profitable a particular niche is. Till now, I'm still not an expert in products that I'm promoting, but I'm doing so because they sell.

Hi Mark,

It depends on your stamina to write dozens of blog posts in the next couple of years about something you don't have an interest in, purely because you think you'll make more money. If money is enough of a motivator for you, find the niche that makes you the most money. I know that doesn't work for me, but for some people it works like a charm.

By the looks of it, your niche about birds, could be a profitable one. Because it is a well defined niche with a specific audience to target. If you become The To Go Guy for information about and products regarding birds and become an expert in your niche, you will earn money.

Passion is an amazing force. It keeps you motivated to write interesting articles, makes you able to share your enthousiasme and your wisdom and it makes other people happy to share their passion with you so you'll have a lot of engagement. Bird lovers finding other bird lovers through your website. How cool's that?

But again: if you prefer going for a niche that has bigger money opportunities, go for it. As long as you find and keep your motivation going. Good luck with building your business.

Best,

Bianca

I totally agree with you.The danger of chasing money without passion for that niche is you will be in direct competition with people who have a passion and zeal for that niche and customers can always tell the difference between the two.For example its so evident on You Tube ,people who do fitness videos becoz its their passion and people who do fitness videos just because they think its popular and hope to get subscribers on their channel and henece monetize .The people with the passion for a certain subject or topic always win and usually their goal in never money as number one.Their goal is to fully express their commitment and joy in doing what naturally connects with them and that energy is powerful enough to attract followers in numbers. So yes passion trumps everything.U might be able to make money without passion but it will be all a weak sail without enough fuel to power it thru dark days and sooner or later it will all splutter to sudden demise.

I suppose it's because, like a lot of folk who have signed up to WA, we have come through review sites, I myself came through yours Dale and the talk of £10,000 a month gets you worked up and excited.
I'm probably just being a doubting thomas at the moment as I just can't see big money in Birds or reptile Affiliate marketing. But tbh, it's what I love and I'm going for it and I'd be very happy with £500 per week profit....then, who knows.

Well the important thing here is that regardless of what you earn from 1 site - you can set up multiple... So there is absolutely no harm in pursuing a passion, gaining some momentum with that site & then starting another down the line. Either way though I would very strongly recommend starting with something that you are passionate about whilst you are learning, because it will make the process more enjoyable & less frustrating. Then you can apply your knowledge to other niche areas.

P.S. I just took a look and "bird cages" receives an average of 4481 searches per month... So let's say the average sale price is £50... There's a £224k+ per month market for you to tap into... As I say the worldwide reach that comes with online marketing is a very powerful thing :)

So far I have three (rather broad) niche ideas: yarnwork (crocheting, knitting, needle felting), video games (but I am not sure if digital platforms, like Steam or GOG have affiliate programs), and integrating sustainability into your daily routine (reviews of eco-friendly products that cover your day-to-day life).

I'm not sure which to pick, or how to narrow them down. In my view, yarnwork truly just involves yarn, tools and patterns, which by themselves might be too narrow? Indie video games feels narrowed down enough. The routine sustainability thing, I could potentially narrow it down to home-life, or jobs, etc...

Suggestions?

Yarnwork & Indie video games look good.

Remember that your affiliate website should be about a niche "topic" you actually have passion or interest about.

You’re most likely to enjoy building an affiliate site in a niche you already enjoy, which makes your hobbies a good place to start.

For example, I love MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) so I might consider building an affiliate blog promoting MMA gear from Amazon like MMA gloves, shorts...

The great thing about using a hobby for your niche is your existing familiarity with the topic.

This means you’ll spend less time doing research, which makes the writing process less stressful. Trust me, if you pick a niche that you don’t enjoy on some level, the work will be a chore.

I learned that lesson when I tried to write dozens of articles about shoes. Never again.

Here are a few simple steps to get you started choosing your niche:

Make a list of your hobbies.

Think long and hard to answer this question: Which would you most enjoy writing about?

Next up, look for affiliate programs for your chosen hobbies. Which has the most earning potential?

Once you have a final list of hobbies with potential affiliate programs, do market research to see whether there is enough interest to warrant the effort.

Any niche you choose should have a decent built-in audience.
One good way to find out if there is a potential audience is by seeking out other big sites in your niche. If there’s competition, the topic is probably worth your time.

If you don't know how to find affiliate programs related to your niche or how to research the competition don't worry! Just follow the training here and you'll be good.

It's ok to get a bit confused at first because all of this is new to you! (we've all been there!) but after a few months, this will be second nature and most importantly this is worth the hard work because it will pay off big time!

Here are some good resources I found here at WA that will give you a better idea on how to choose a niche, please do spend some time to find the right niche because it's the most important thing to build a successful site! Cheers!

I have two general ideas for my niches.

1. Self-Care for college students: As a student myself, I see the damaging behaviors that college students do all the time and would love to help find ways to help in that area.

2. Long-Distance Relationships: I have been in an extremely life-giving and successful LDR for the past 3 years or so, and I would love to share with others what I've learned. However, I am less sure on how monetizing this niche for affiliate marketing would work.

Any thoughts?

Hi! These are the things that I like talking about.
1. Personal Finance
2. Healthy/plant based food or ingredients
3. Dog care
4. Kitchen Equipment, I love to cook
5. Leather Handbags

I can't decide which one to use as niche. My concern too is that there might be a few online stores in my area that offer affiliate programs.

I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

All of those topics are excellent niches. Remember: whatever one you choose, you will need to create content consistently. As for competition: there is always going to be competition. There are also 3.75 BILLION people online. Don't be overly concerned about competition. Everyone is looking for something online :)

There was a comment somewhere about focus on what you know. If it's something you are excited about, that will show in your blogs and your marketing material. That doesn't mean you can't be excited about more than one niche, but start with one imho.

Thanks Kyle for this very useful video. My 3 niches I have selected are in the following domains.

1. Aromatherapy and essential oils with more than 10 years of experience. The website would mainly be an information site where I provide full description of the identity of more than 50 oils.
The idea would also be to sell the (BIO) oils.
In addition I created what I call the "Bible of Healing with Essential Oils". In cooperation with a therapist, I can provide cures using oils for the more than 100 diseases.

2. Blockchain, where I already made a manual called "Introduction in the Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrency". I tested the training with a volunteer who knew nothing about this tech, and it was successful. Next month I will provide training with a 10 people audience in my company.

3. Lithotherapy: Here also, as a start the website would mainly be an information site with description of precious minerals, stones and crystals and their healing effects. Afterwards I would sell these stones and crystals, as well as jewelry, pendants,...

4. And maybe register at some Affiliate Programs (Amazon, BestBuy, Walmart, Clickbank,..

Best regards
Vincent

The only way your website will become profitable is with affiliate programs/links. It is a good idea if you find affiliate programs that are in your niche. The way to do that is to use the + sign in your search. For example: affiliate programs + aromatherapy OR affiliate programs + blockchain, etc.

Hi, you will want to be careful of the word "cure" and be sure to include a medical disclaimer page on your site saying something like - for informational purposes only, not to replace the advice of a professional physician etc.

It sounds like you know exactly where you want to go with your websites. That's great!

Normally I work two jobs in order to make ends meet and it was very draining and exhausting. A few years ago I would leave my cleaning job and drive down the street where I worked 3rd shift in a warehouse. So, the "Make Money" niche is where I want to start--Every since I lost my job earlier this year, I am always looking out for new interesting ways to make money.

Yesterday I setup my seller account on Fiverr (maria.mhoon) and right now I am brainstorming to come up with a catchy name for my website/blog. Here is what I have come up with so far ChannelCreationUniverse / LaunchParty / TheSuccessChannel......what do you guys think? Which one catches your attention the most?

Hi. I have a question regarding choosing a niche. I am in a health & wellness mlm, and my plan is to create a blog essentially branding myself. Still trying to determine whether I'd structure my blog around health/wellness topics (occasionally dropping links back to my company site for say nutrition products I sell or a 30 day healthy reset program we offer) or focus more on the promoting the industry and training others on growing a network marketing business. That said, would it make more sense to promote WA as my niche and incorporate it into a "how to grow your business online" blog, perhaps referencing the network marketing industry specifically OR focus on networking market only and perhaps create a post on WA and how it can help grow your business? Thoughts? Wracking my brain on which direction to go. Thanks for the input!
Reply
TheCatherine Premium
Hi Ryan,
essentially your you already have a business. You can add a personal branding blog to your existing business by using a custom redirect. Or you can use the training here to send traffic to your existing business.

My advice don't overcomplicate it. I wouldn't go down the direction of learning how to promote wealthy affiliates from the beginning as you already have an existing business which should take priority.

As you already know you need to define who your audiences. The people who are interested in fitness are not necessarily interested in make money online and vice versa. It is possible to put a page on your existing business and say would you like a website like this or something like that to promote wealthy affiliate's. Some people will tell you that will be successful.

Whilst you may get a few sales it's not likely to convert well. Hope this makes sense

My husband breeds ball pythons. Could I make that a niche of it's own, you think? Trying to think outside the box and come up with something a little different.
Also, I have signed up for the Amazon affiliate program already. Should I still pick just one thing from that...like clothing, toys, electronics...?
Reply
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - yes, that could be a niche, and you would gain the trust of readers with having experience.

As regards Amazon, you need a website to be an affiliate. Do you have one already hosted elsewhere? Any products you wish to promote have to be related to your niche, not just anything random. So, if you go with the pythons idea, you should be picking products to do with them, their feeding habitats, any equipment required etc.

Hi - you really need to work your way through the training. The purpose of this platform is to teach you how to build your own professional website to use for affiliate marketing. You choose your niche, write articles about it to attract visitors, and add links for people to purchase products related to that niche. You then earn a commission from Amazon or other affiliate programs.

wow that would be an interesting niche, I'm sure there's a way to make that a profitable business. Me I am not a snake person but I see as an affiliate , all kinds of accessories in that market, feeding supplies, cages, etc.

I was wondering if it is better to start off with a physical product niche (like sportswear) instead of educational or informational niche? I am really interested in online / social media marketing and have been thinking about going that direction. To narrow it down, I could be targeting start ups and small companies. What option do you recommend for a first timer?
Reply

I would probably go with whatever you are passionate about and where you like helping people.
Reply

You will have huge competition for that niche, but it doesn't mean you can't do well. Might just take a little longer to get on the first page of Google search. However, what if you narrowed it down to "Compression Sportswear." As a longtime competitive runner and triathlete, I can certainly vouch for the benefits of wearing compression socks and tops.

Just a thought as I look at your possibilities in sportswear. How about youth soccer wear? This is one of the fastest growing sports in the world as kids of all ages and genders love it. Most of all parents find it more affordable as opposed to hockey for instance. I just checked out Amazon and plenty of soccer gear etc. to sell on there. Plus, you could target soccer teams and sell 15 sets of gear at a time for example.

Loved the initial directive on choosing of a niche. I do feel that the incredibly overused term of choosing your passion could be removed from the language for a while. I'm not finding very much passion around me these days, in fact I believe my niche is going to relate to this very condition of middle age and not feeling the burn.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, it could be removed, but it is the natural direction . Those that say your "passion" will not lead to success, I would argue. But I would also argue that if you are passionate about "business", you could evoke that across any niche as I have done over the years.

You can head in absolutely any direction you want and be very successful online, you just have to evoke passion within that niche.

I've heard it said that a .com extension is like having beachfront property as opposed to .net, .ca, etc. etc. As I plan on having an information website, I was thinking of using a .info extension. Does that mean I will have fewer search results on Google? Is it a bad idea to stray from a .com extension?
Reply
AHost-Madsen Premium
If you are creating an information website then it is perfectly acceptable to use a .info
I see many successful YouTubers who have websites that are .net, .org, etc.
What you can do is try it out. If you do not have success with a .info after a few months you can redirect the site to a new one. (of course you will have to create another site) But in essence that means that if someone clicks on your .info site they will automatically go to your new site.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
I can perfectly understand the niche concept for the services (like affiliate program for example or alike). And I think, that it is the best way to start, to see how and why and what. I will go that direction for sure.
But when we come to products - everybody today knows about either Amazon or Aliexpress or alike. If someone needs a product, why on Earth he/she/them would go to some website (even if it is MY website) instead of going directly to Amazon website?
Reply
merlynmac Premium
Almost everyone does a little research before the go buy an item for the first time. That's where your site and authority come in. I actually has a local guy ring my drone site and came to my house asking me for advice and even training. All because I had built trust with him via my site.
Reply
ogal59 Premium
So it means, that in order to achieve some results, your niche should not be just "product", but something more complex (like further training or advise), right? otherwise people goes straight to Amazon?
Reply
merlynmac Premium
Right...if all you do is churn out reviews, you'll miss a whole bunch of potential visitors. My drone site has a lot of reviews but it also has a lot of informational articles, how-to's and troubleshooting tips. Much of my traffic comes to those non-review posts first and then the visitors see my reviews and recommendations secondary.
Reply
ogal59 Premium
Thanks. That is how I also see it. It is just a little bit more complicated then selecting any one product from million others...
Reply
Dale123 Premium
Personally I don't think I've ever gone to Amazon directly, because I always assume there is something better than the product I am thinking about buying, so I look for reviews first. I go through niche sites (just like what you'll be building here) and then generally make purchase decisions based on what they tell me may be the best option.

On the other hand there are often times when I simply don't know what product to buy & I need help - so I will search something like "what tool does X job"... And then I will come across an informative article of how to complete the task which generally recommends the tool I need for the job... And I'll buy it based on their recommendation :)

Because regularly enquiry searches point to blogs and product reviews rather than to Amazon directly.

Think of this as an opportunity where you can explore any interest you may have. What would you want people to see you succeed with? What is something you know you would love to teach to others? The book of faces is a good vehicle for driving traffic, but I don't know if you can do as much on Facebook as you can on your own website. I'm not a fan of Facebook, because I like security, but I think you should continue with the training here so you can see the difference between Affiliate Marketing and Facebook. Neither are going to provide you a quick fix for residual income issues...

When you're looking to make sales, the key is driving traffic to your product. With a facebook page, how do you get people to find it? How do people know it exists? Paid ads? What kind of return do you get on paid ads on FB? On Amazon, how would you get people to find your product? How will people know it's there?

Driving targeted traffic is the key to any business. That's why the training at WA is so powerful. You're taught here exactly how to drive traffic to your content. This means you publish your posts once and as you're continuing to build other posts Google is sending traffic to them over and over and over again. The only advice I have is don't spread yourself too thin. You want to become an authority in each niche. To do that, you need to dedicate considerable time and effort into each one. I suggest you start with just one and work it to the point where it doesn't need so much attention and then consider starting another one. Just keep in mind, as you devote time to your new niche, time is pulled from your old one.

So I was thinking about some niche ideas...
Ideally I would like to make the kind of website like the snack helmets one in the tutorial.
The reason is not so much laziness but the fact that I never imagined myself as much of a writer, and I don't really know if I'm good at producing a lot of content but I would give it a shot.
Browsing Amazon I found a few niche ideas and then it hit me, the more expensive the product the higher the comission, so I would really like to try drones, do you think it could work?

The few subjects I know about and would gladly produce content for are video games, movies like Star Wars which I love and has a lot of cool memorabilia and children's toys, or tv shows like Game of Thrones (can't wait to see the premiere today).
These are subjects I actually know about and would love to write about, but I am willing to learn about pretty much anything.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Narrowing it down a bit, I would focus on "self-care" (to begin with) - which promotes mental wellness. Too broad? Too vague? Not a money maker? What do you think? ...and 'yes', I have experience in this field: i'm considered an expert. Thanks in advance for your help!!

I'm an absolute believer in what Kyle says in the training that just about any niche can be profitable when it's something you're passionate about, especially with your expertise. I think you could reach and help a lot of people. You could seamlessly integrate the promotion of books within your content as well as any number of products and services that have to do with self care that would benefit your audience the most.
I say go for it. Every post you write will be about something specific, so even with a broad-ish niche like mental wellness or self care you would be targeting a specific area within in.

It's not that different from my approach with the broad "make money online" niche. With each post I'm writing about something very specific within that larger niche. :)

I usually like to ask to questions when finding someone niche or power spot.

1. If you could do anything and knew you wouldn't fail what would you do?
2. If you could do anything and money didn't stop you what would you do?

The answer to these two questions usually points to someones passion.

All of these are pretty valid and you have experience with them. That puts you ahead right away. At first choose the one you know really well and are passionate about. As you are learning, you then just need to learn the mechanics of website building. You already have enough, at your finger tips, to start writing your articles.

Once you are comfortable with your first website then think about which of the remaining two you want to do next.

Just remember this takes work, so set you pace to match. You don't want to get frustrated trying to do too much at once.

Hi Debbie, interesting ideas, all of which sound good. You’ll be best picking something you have knowledge of and an affinity for. If you really love your job and aren’t looking for a change then that could be good for you, as long as you think you can monetize it.

Twins related products is another smashing idea, there’ll be lots of opportunities there I guess for product reviews. Autism comes under the health niche which is always quite a good one too. It has lots of sub-niches to specialise in, but competition for keywords might be high.

Kyle will tell you to pick ONE of those options and build on that. Don’t be tempted to open 3 sites, you should open ONE and focus on that 100%.

Hope this helps,

Kyle says in the video to choose either your own niche OR to promote WA but he does not recommend doing both. Is there a reason for this? It seems to me that it may be easier just starting out to promote WA to create some traffic coming in and perhaps even have your membership here pay for itself this way before branching out and building other areas of interest as time goes on. Has anyone else done this?

Hi - the training is quite in-depth and it could be overwhelming to do both courses, requiring two different websites. You should start with one, and of course it is your choice which one. Bear in mind, you will be writing a lot of content for your website. In some ways it is easier to start with your own niche, as you will know more about it.

You should really focus on one niche at as time; for times sake. Promoting WA would be a full time gig, just like promoting your own "product" would be a full time thing. You CAN do both, but starting out, it's better to focus 100% on one niche.

Hi - you really do need to narrow down your niche. Is there a particular aspect of travel you have experience of? Travel with children, travel by rail, travel in Europe etc.

You can do the BootCamp training whenever you want, but it is best to focus on your niche site first. You could get overwhelmed trying to do both at the same time.

Hi :)

Here is something you could do: Find a narrower sub niche of traveling like some have suggested.

BUT...when it comes time to get your own domain name, make the domain name a little broader.
Then you can continue in the narrow niche until you are getting lots of traffic and slowly broaden your niche (still in the travel niche) over time as you want.

Then you won't feel so limited forever.

Then it is about talking on the blog about something I know and what I can tell the world, then I research a little more and find an article for sale and that's why I make my blog? for example...
I can talk about carbohydrates as they affect especially in the age of menopause besides that it favors the retention of liquid and body fat apart from the lack of energy etc, in addition to find a slimming program ... is it correct? or promote gyms or activities ....

Yes, you'll write about things you know that will help a certain group of people. Then when you've built up an audience, you'll recommend products that will help them.

A niche is a group of people with a common interest, who hang out in the same places, and buy the same stuff. Start with something that you already know a lot about or are really interested in learning.

You have a good grasp on the idea however, you may want to write your own articles/posts instead of purchasing someone else's. What they write may not line up with what you have in mind. Best to continue with the lessons and let your natural writing style be your guide. It will develop and so will the flavor of your site.

If you are right, at the moment I am writing my articles, I'm sure it's a lot to be super super, but it does not matter, I have to learn from my mistakes, so for now my blog is in the online world, and I'm super happy .. with that I stay ..

Hello everyone.I'm excited to be here.I was going threw the next lesson where they talk about buying your own domain.
Well I've had the name of my business for a long time now.well in my head at least.
I wanted some advice n which .com name I should go with.
One version of it would look like this ogcreations.com...
The other would look like this theotherguyscreations.com...
What do y'all think?
Also, would i be able to use both names in different variations in which ever one I choose?
Let me know what would be better choice?

I like ogcreations or even just ogc.com it's what makes it easy for people to look up.

You are welcome. I had another member who did more than 10 years business consultation help me out with my newest website and we picked TWIBED which is modern, easy to remember and each letter stands for things specific to my business. So using acronyms do make it easy and also easily indexed. Whatever you do, do not use hyphens or full stops, because that makes it difficult for people to find your site.

my niche is fashion, bags and shoes. I love shopping online, and I have a big passion on knowing what design clothes goes well with our culture, especially clothes that is formal, chic and unique style. prices on my arrange is affordable for everyone.

I like to help schoolies when they need to choose their dress for formal night, age range from 15 to 25. no one wants to pay few hundreds to thousands of dollars for a formal dress which maybe only wear it once or twice. so my price for them will be range from $70 to $250

shoes range is sandal heels and high heels, boots - all real leathers price range from $69 to $170

bags - looking for branded bags

I am still trying to decide what my niche will be, but I have always loved fashion and am pretty good at spotting trends myself. I look forward to seeing if we can help each other, if I do choose this niche. :)

I would be really keen to focus on yoga as my niche. There may be lots of competition but willing to give it a real go as lots of people love yoga, myself included!

How narrow do I need to make it to get started - is yoga equipment still too broad? Or should I focus on one type - eg yoga mats?

Thanks for any advice,
Lorraine

Yoga equipment can include things like mats, mats you can roll up and have a carrying strap, mats that come in many colors, etc. You don't have to just focus on mats, though.
Although there is not a lot of equipment for yoga, you can talk about comfortable clothing to wear - which material stretches with your body, headbands, leggings, some people might use ankle or wrist weights for the added strengthening.
OR - you could talk about the different types of yoga, the chakras, etc.

Nah it ain’t to broad doesn’t matter what niche you pick whether it’s broad or narrow all that matters is you are willingly to create content based on it

Ques 1 / This course is it the certification course mentioned or do I need to make another purchase?
Ques 2/ What are some high ticket affiliation products that we can promote?
Ques 3/ The course mention the building of 2 websites..does this mean as starter I choose 2 niches?
Ques 4/ Will I be taught to create several websites or subpages with just one domain name for several niches?

Am much clearer about the idea of a niche...thanks....it is the product that interest me and for me to promote..I want to encourage entrepreneurs into the digital market, so affiliate marketing will be my prime product. Right?

I will try to answer all your questions so that you have a better understanding of WA.

Q1 - I see that you are only a starter member. If you choose to upgrade to Premium, you would pay $19 the first month and $49 each month thereafter. There are many benefits to upgrading. You can see them here: Q2 - You would need to do a Google search. Just search affiliate programs and tons will come up. Electronics are very popular and could be high ticket as well as digital products that require a monthly subscription; you would get paid each month.

Q3 - As a starter the purpose of the two websites is one for each course - OEC and Bootcamp.
It is not recommended to have more than one niche to begin with because you may become overwhelmed. It is also recommended to start OEC before Bootcamp.

Q4 - I'm not sure I understand your last question. You are taught to create a website in OEC and you are taught how to promote WA in Bootcamp. You choose your domain and branding. You have the ability to create/purchase as many or few websites as you want.

I hope my answers help you. I have to step out for a few hours. If someone else answers you, great.

If you still want MY help, PM me.

Hi, I'm passionate about cats and have already built a wordpress blog as well as ecommerce store. My store is based around cat t-shirts and printables. Most of which I design myself. However, I'm also promoting Amazon cat trees, cat beds, cat toys etc.

Hopefully cats isn't too broad a niche, but having researched the pet niche, both cats and dogs seem lucrative.

Follow the training...it is all explained in detail. It is a good idea to visit the Live Events section and search adding pictures. There are step-by-step instructions on how to do this.
When you created your website with wordpress or siterubix, there is an option for add images.
Follow the training...that will help you!

You can definitely head in the fashion direction.

If I want to go into the digital product niche I would do the bootcamp is that right? If so, why do you want us to learn just one of the two methods? Is one like selling products amazon etc and then the other affiliate marketing? Guess I am confused on the difference.

Hi :)
The Online Entrepreneur Certification course is to learn how to make a website in any niche you want, including digital products. Whereas the Bootcamp is specifically for learning to promote Wealthy Affiliate.

Just know that while going through the Certification course you will find that you might want to narrow down your niche a little. Digital Products is a little broad and you will find it very competitive. By narrowing to a more specific type of digital product for your niche, you have a better chance to succeed.
