What is a niche?

A niche is simple, it is an audience. An audience looks for stuff online, for example, what are some of the last searches you did in Google. These are ALL niches.

In this video I am going to help you UNDERSTAND what a niche is, how to come up with niches that you are interested in, how to choose a niche...and if you can't come up with your own niche, then I give you a "plan of attack" for getting your business up and running in a pre-selected niche.

Here is what you are going to be doing within this tutorial:

  • Understand what a niche is
  • Finding your very own niche
  • Choosing your initial direction
  • Finding and search for affiliate programs
  • Using Answers.com to uncover niches
  • Understanding Affiliate Bootcamp

A couple of resources I leveraged within this training that you can use for your niche research. These include:

  • Amazon.com
  • Answers.com
  • Google.com
  • Magazines.com

If you have any questions about niches or what direction to go, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi,
I was thinking about creating a niche around Exercice, training and well-being. I would like to help young adults who are out-of-shape, skinny or overweight feel good about themselves by offering them insights and products that helped me. By adopting these products and the way of life I'm suggesting they will build muscle, loose that extra weight or just feel good in their own shoes.

Basically, I would like to help young adults who feel insecure about themselves reach their full potential and get the most out of life.

Is it a good direction to go on? What do you guys think about it? Is it too general or too specific? What am I missing? Suggestions?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Good Luck.

That's a great idea and I like that you said "that helped me". That tells me you have actual experience and are invested in the niche. I'd say your focus is pretty spot on, young, out of shape and helping young insecure adults to feel good about themselves.

It's not too specific, limiting your options and I don't think it's too broad. I say go for it.

Calin, that is a great niche. There are so many people, including myself , who are always looking for ways to get this weight control thing down. What is good about this niche is that it can start as helping people and their potential, it can then include exercise and choosing the right program, add nutrition, add exercise gear etc. This is a wide niche, a good niche so i suggest you start in a small area and expand. This is because when you start in a small area, you will get results easier and build a trusting customer base. Best wishes !

Hi Solomon...

I'm Lee... You have a Fantastic Idea...!!!
There are SEVERAL Companies out in .COM World that are doing Affiliate Programs that would LOVE to have you Helping them...
I know this because one of the sites I've created in the past I NEVER Once got a NO from when asking about doing Marketing and Affiliate Programs with...
A little advice... Do some Homework... What I mean is, find products that you can find on more Expensive Sites, like GNC, and find them Cheaper somewhere else so you Drive Traffic to you instead of GNC for Sales...
GNC does have an Affiliate Program, but their Prices are OUTRAGEOUS in comparison to other places... People only go there because it's a Household Name...
Good Luck! You've Chosen a Great Niche...!!!

I'm thinking that making money online would be a good place to start. Because of the plethora of scams out there, it's refreshing to find a legitimate way to learn, grow and become successful using the Wealthy Affiliate program. This is something I can personally relate to and I know that it will rescue many wayward searchers that have been lost amongst the scams!
Any thoughts as to if I need to narrow it down any, or is this the right size to start with? I'm sure there are many ways to scale this up into something totally awesome.

Hey Chris,
one, yes you would need to narrow it down to start targeting a specific audience in the make money online category - it will be much easier than being too broad.
2, you would definitely benefit from going through the affiliate bootcamp. it will go through the different niches you could target in the making money world.
hope that helps

You could target a chosen demographic, for example men over fifty, recently retired persons, college graduates, people with young families who need extra money, at-home moms who could work online etc. You could start with a specific group and expand it to include others as you see fit. Best wishes

I've been writing in a personal blog (that all just sit as drafts) for a few months now and I'm realizing that I have a couple of topics in very different niches lol! I haven't decided which one to follow first, so I'm looking into affiliate programs first to help me decide. Some of my possible niches include:
1) Music: learn to read music, learn an instrument, learn to sing better, where to get good cheap beginner equipment, apps and software... (have found 10+ affiliate programs of interest)
2/2.5) Consumer Electronics: phone accessory reviews, new gadgets, how to use your phone, how to fix phone problems, 2.5 Electronics & the environment: electronics recycling, enviro-friendly products, health tech.... (have found 5 or more affiliate programs of interest)
3) Becoming self employed in an affordable way (British Columbia, Canada specific laws), starting an online business (have found somewhat similar affiliate programs of interest)

As you can see I'm going way too broad but really do have knowledge and the desire to share it on every aspect!!!

Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

PS. Both Carson and I are from BC as well. :)

For my first niche I’m looking at stuff dance related. A lot of the products I would think about promoting though are on the cheaper end of the spectrum. So Is it better to choose something with more expensive products, to make it easier to earn? Should I be thinking of how I can choose a niche with more expensive products or does it even out?

hey hi Natalie! ... and Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

frankly, any niche can be a successful niche -- it really hinges upon whether the niche you've selected interests you sufficiently to want to blog about it in-depth over an extended period of time to reach success ...

It balances out - don't worry too much about that. I had a site where I was earning literally pennies in commissions on the products (songs) but they were purchased much more frequently due to the lower price so yeah, it worked out just the same in the long run. Ultimately though even though you're targeting dance shoes, you know your audience is related to dance so there's nothing stopping you from later promoting more expensive stuff on the site, for example dance classes etc too.

What a wonderful experience being connected to the WA Family. Not only do we receive tremendous Training such as fine Niche training, but a most thoughtful and extensive questions, answers and ideas from other WA Family members,
Thank you all, as I have been enthralled and excited to read every question, advise and enthusiastic response, as I have scrolled down to the "never ending" interesting comments.
As a retired teacher, one niche I am thinking of initially using , as start is "education", but I need some guidance in picking a niche which would be not only invaluable to help parents and students, but help me to perhaps start a blog to eventually monetise it to help me to add to my current household pension income.

My niche is related to real help for back pain. I know this is a broad category. I have tons of free content to offer but having trouble with monetizing.
People in pain are motivated to get out of pain!
I’ve bought lots of things to try to get out of pain and tried plenty of techniques.
Here’s a short list of things that help
Large ice packs
Valerian root as sleep aid
Merrell hiking shoes
WonderGel seat cushion
Zinus cushion mattress
Vitamin c to soften stools (no constipation for back pain people)
Cushy socks yuedge are favs
Treadmills for slow walking

Any jump out at you guys or hit a chord?

Freebies
Be kind and gentle with yourself
Practice gratitude and notice small wonders
Minimize the pain mentally
Breathe normally and try to walk without limping
Don’t give energy to pain by complaining or talking about it
Don’t practice self pity
Don’t be a victim
Remember life can still be good even when your in pain
Don’t maximize problems
Focus and wildly celebrate on any improvements
Fully Rely On God
Transfer the weight of your expectations and problems to God
Be strong enough to hope to get better but be ok if you don’t
Don’t compare yourself to nonsufferers that’s not fair
Quit the addiction cycle , coping is not solving
Tune in with your Maker - This doesn’t surprise Him

I’ve lots more freebies than monitization ideas.
Any help?

Yeah, focus on just one product that you like to start with. One of my sites is about this topic and I suffer chronic back pain.

The site is a great example of what you can do with one product. And a pretty nice example niche site. It's not updated and hasn't been worked on for a long time, but you can see it here.. TherapyBoy.com as an example.

The product I found and like is called the Invertabelt. But you could use foam rollers, therapy balls, inversion tables, digital training products, books, etc..

Try to focus on one helpful product. You can always add helpful content about the free therapeutic ways to help people. But to start a business related site, focus on one helpful product for now and market that.

My Invertabelt review got the owners attention and I can easily add this to the site as a physical product (eCommerce) vs. an Amazon affiliate. So a lot of things can develop from finding the right product.

Hope that helps,
Todd

Wow you've got so many ideas to work with, that's better than not having enough topics!! Have you looked into which of these products you've listed have an affiliate program available? I'm betting at least two will be on Amazon. You can include information and your affiliate link to them right in your freebie articles, then your readers have more information, trust you more, and might feel more like clicking on your link. That's how I plan to do it too!

I Raised 4 children under pretty bad financial hardship and now my youngest daughter is having her 1st child. She got a lot of things at her baby shower but there's always some little things you really really need but nobody thinks to get so I was thinking about a website where people that don't have a lot of money can either swap each other baby items like one person had something that another person needed and vice versa, they could swap for a small fee or they could just outright buy what they needed from someone with that item. All items would have to be priced to make sure the seating was fair financial wise. What do y'all think? Too hard? Not doable?

You can be an authority in any niche. I have done so over the years even within niches that I wasn't particularly interested in. I dedicated myself to that niche though and fully immersed my every moment within my online activities. It is amazing what you an learn, what you can teach, and how efficiently you can establish an authority.

The more years, the more experiences you've got!! I started off by thinking stuff like, what do I know how to do that not everyone does? what do I wish I spent more time doing? what do I love doing? what have I searched for on Google? Did I get an answer online or did I have to do more digging? Either way, I had to go to more than one place for the whole answer.. That's where your site can come in and have it all in one place. Hope that helps!

Question: regarding a niche, is "SELF GROWTH" NICHE TOO BROAD? - I am thinking to promote health products, passive income courses, dieting products under the "self growth" website. IS this too broad and I should narrow it to what level? like to dieting products website and another website to passive income courses? thanks:))
Reply
Robert-A Premium
I would stick to one Niche and relevant services / products.
Therefore one site for passive income and another for the health products.
However you should stick to one and don't get ahead of yourself.
It takes a lot of work to get a website up and running and actually making money from it so as I said - best stick to one.
Robert

feigner Premium
Ric - i would take each of those, health products, passive income and dieting as sepereate niches - even narrow them down for that.
Health products covers avery broad topic, who are you trying to help.
if you say everyone then you will tlk to no one.
imagine all of yuor friends in a room together - can you talk to all of them about the same topic or do you have to modify it for some and change it for others - it i exactly the same for your site, talk to one niche - group of people who are interested in getting the same problems solved.
you can always add another small niche after you have setup the initial niche.
so i would go back and see which one of those topics you are really interested in and see if you can find an area of that topic you want to help people with and concentrate on that.
Good luck

I have an idea for my Niche, I have been interested in the depletion of nutrients in our soil due to over farming and the use of pesticides, this is a recognised fact, which has created more interest in Organically grown products, these we are seeing more of on our supermarket shelves. But it’s the soil they are grown in that is nutrient deficient, therefore they are not in the soil they cannot be in the plant that’s grown in the soil. If we search for a product that would replace these lost minerals we find that most of them are metallic minerals and my understanding is that our bodies require plant derived minerals, these are grown in the plant and consequently more easily absorbed by our bodies. So the search begins.

I agree with Hannah. Side-note: I am personally curious to know if farmers are furious about the Aluminum, Barium, and Strontium, that is being sprayed on farmlands and certain demographic regions all throughout the world? Have you been affected by Monsanto and forced to grow GMOs? Have you found high levels of Aluminum, Barium, and Strontium, in your soil? I'm just curious. Is it true that all corn in the USA is GMO corn?

Hi, I thinks that I begins to understand the concept of niche as stated in the video above.
For example 'best camera equipment in water' which then we can promote on the camera equipment itself.
This lead to my questions, how does affiliate marketing works on something more abstract and cannot be associated with any products?
Thanks in advance.
Reply
BvVugt Premium
Hi paan,

There's always something you can connect your niche with. I don't know what you had in mind as a more abstract niche, but you could promote books about your niche, or e-courses, or subscriptions or art work that's related to the niche, or printables, or tools.

It depends on what your niche is. But there are products about anything and everything. Sometimes you just need to think outside the box.
Reply
realityshifter Premium
All affiliate programs are associated with particular products. And all products must have some objective reality. You cannot have a product that is totally abstract. Even an abstract philosophical concept must be sold in the form of an e-book. The e-book becomes the product.
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
Do you have any examples to show what you mean by an abstract niche?

Apart from physical products, there are also digital products like online courses. There are also service-based products like web hosting.

There are a ton of products you can promote.

Let me know what's the abstract niche you're referring to.

I have not as yet finalised my Nich but the Health and Welness market looks most interesting, I was reading about the depletion of minerals and nutriants due to over farming the land, and the increased use of pesticides, I think a product that would address these issues is a possible way forward.

What aspect of the health/wellness niche do you want to help people with? There are literally 1,000's of niches within these categories and you will want to narrow it down. Heading in the mineral renewal area of that broader category is definitely one idea.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

Hi Kyle,Please let me know if you think my concept would work. My niche is dressage riders. Dressage is a subset of horse riding in general. I would call my website Working Dressage Riders. com which narrows things even more. I say "working" dressage riders because I'm interested in talking about the role of a good horse and rider beyond performance in a horseshow. I already have a year's worth of articles pertaining to the preparation of a good working dressage horse. This is the beginning training of a young horse on the ground, or in-hand training. I have a lot of experience with this as I do the whole area of dressage. I've already thought of articles having to do with schooling when one doesn't have a trainer, schooling a stallion when you're 71 years old (like I am), problems associated when working alone with a horse such as trying to get the bit in when he won't open his mouth, etc. Accessories which go with my niche would include bridles, saddles, bits, pads, boots, rider clothing, spurs, etc. I don't know what affiliate programs would be associated with this, however. I'd have to research it. What do you think?

hey hi Carole -- while awaiting Kyle's reply -- he's got very busy days and now it's the weekend ahead so it may be awhile to hear back ...

any niche can be successful -- your selected niche sounds it would work very well as you're obviously already very knowledgeable on the subject -- in building a successful on-line biz here based on organic traffic, one needs to enjoy the topic to the extent of researching, learning more about it, and writing/blogging in-depth articles over an extended period of time to achieve success ... plus with your knowledge base, you'll engage well with your audience when questions are presented to you for answers ... that's all part of content ...

Hi! So, I know the direction i want to go in, but I'm not sure how specific I should get. I'd like my website to be targeted toward vegan moms. Should I choose just one aspect of it, such as vegan nipple cream, or vegan infant formula? Or could I choose something more broad?
Reply
C-Lab Premium
The more specific, the better. This is because you'll face less competition as well as increasing the likely hood that people who visit your site will be looking for exactly what you're promoting. Perhaps you could create multiple sites, one for each of the subniche contained within the broader context of vegan mom's. I bet mom's of different ethnicities, ages, areas, and other things will have varying interests even within that one niche. You mentioned two sub niches already, that seems like two sites worth of valuable content to me!

The common rule: the narrower the better. But I think vegan mom is ok. Vegan nipple cream, or vegan infant formula could be sub-topics ...

Here a few tips that could help you to make a decision
Reply

I think vegan moms is specific enough. If you write about vegan infant formula, you'll be locked into that for YEARS. "Vegan mom" gives you enough room to grow in the future, but it's still a very specific audience.

Vegan infant formula COULD be a great website too. But you really need a passion for that specific topic to make it work!

could you blog about your journey? if it is not too painful why not empathise with other addicts with your journey - starting with your want to give up and flowing to your recovery and continuing journey with its highs and lows.
you could try to 'recruit' others who want to recover and map their journeys to give other some inspiration to also seek recovery?
how do you monetise it? don't know - councelling services? books? self help programs?
all of those you could review.
good luck with your journey online Leya .

oh my gosh! Thanks so much for your help! That actually is a GREAT idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that!? I actually have dabbled in motivational speaking or "telling your story" at fundraisers. That was actually what helped me to stay on the correct path after my battle with addiction and the beginning of my "recovery road.." I have actually even thought about writing an autobiography at some point in time as I would like to think that it is something that can just give others hope, encouragement, or just that extra motivation that can be needed - single, struggling mothers FOREMOST, as that is what I am all to familiar with. So AGAIN, THANKS!! you have given me a little boost here as this just may be exactly what I have been waiting to find.. this website, this niche to carry out my goals of helping others who feel hopeless. I truly DO CARE! Just because..

This is what I would do (probably) I would commit some time ( days for sure, or a week or two) and do nothing but google everything I could think of related to recovery. I would sit down with a notebook and start by googling addiction recovery. Then I would start filtering through the results on the first few pages, and I would look for related topics on the bottom of the google search results and click through them. I call this research! I would be making notes and thinking about how I could fit myself in, and how i could narrow the niche down to some one part of the process that interest me the most. I would do all of that, because I Know the most common thing is to feel pressured, start a website, get overwhelmed, and then see other niches or sub niches we think or know we should have started with. And before I started I would write a date that I could not go beyond without starting my domain name and site so that I wouldn't spend the rest of my life deciding.....

I really wish you the best with it Leya, it sometimes rakes a little nudge to remind you.
As Mike says have a look at what is out there.
if you google it and ads come up then you know it is a niche worthy of people spending money on.
maybe to learn the business system pick something else easier to blog about, learn the system and then create your passion site.
it is just you might get caught up in emotion of through not being all the way through the course have to go back and alter bits.
You could use a siterubix one for this - and use them as test sites for testing ideas.
but plan out your site as far as you can- break it into large areas - categories- and see what keywords you can come up with.
I hope a lot of addicts will thank you for your hard work in the future.
good luck

Then, expand that idea over a range of goods and services identified with that passion; and lastly, narrow down that field of goods and/or services to be applied per website or websites. The idea is to create a wide spectrum of audience or client appeal over several websites.

An alternative paradigm would be to create sub-niches within a niche. Then build a specific website per specific sub-niche. That way, you are actually catering to a niche with several websites. Good to try if you can manage the workload of simultaneously developing several websites. The alternative will be to do it one at a time.

toddmatthews Premium
I agree. I did this for one of my niches because it was beyond broad and I've seen several others on here with the same overall niche as me, but have narrowed down to the sub-niche category. Not just that, you can also build a network with those in the same niche as you but are in different or even at times the same sub-niche.

Hi Guys,I have two niche Ideas.

1 - Since I like sci-fi movies, I was thinking about some "nerd" niche, because it's something I could write about and maybe i could place some product like gadgets or live figures.

2 - I was thinking also a "programmer" niche, that is the branch in which i work, maybe I could put some article to help programmers in some problems and put affiliate links of software to make affiliate marketing.

What do you think?

Hi Pasquale,

In my opinion you should go for the second one. I don't know too much about the SF niche but the programmer avenue is definitely one with high engagement and conversions rates.

I have a few niche ideas, just need to choose 1 to start:

1. Keto supplements/food/advice- maybe a supplement review site? Cookbook reviews? General advice/keto discussion? I've been keto for a few months and totally credit the internet for my success. I'd love to add to the keto community online.
2. Pilates- just got into reformer pilates and love it. I could promote reformers, workout gear, home videos, etc.
3. Productivity for remote workers- I'm into productivity in general, and with the amount of people choosing to work from home/remotely I think this could be a cool niche to get into.

Now only to choose which one comes first! I'd love to hear what you all think:)

Here is How to Find a Profitable Niche to Sell on ClickBank

Go to the Clickbank Marketplace SIGN UP FOR A FREE CLICKBANK ACCOUNT IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE
Then Go to the Clickbank Marketplace and search for any niche. For instance Diabetes.

Sort results by gravity you will see this is
a site with the gravity of over 90

Use Gravity

The gravity number is a visible picture to find what is selling
and what is not selling. Gravity score indicates is that those various affiliates are marketing the merchandise.

Each moment a different affiliate sells a product within a specified period, a point is added to gravity. So If someone sells 200 products or 500 products, it still only counts as one point.

So imagine, when a product has been sold actively by more than 200 persons, it is a great niche – one with a lot of profit potential.

Look for products with a gravity of over 30.

Typically there will be between 30 and 80 products on Clickbank with those type of gravity. So choose the highest gravity it is continuously a great indication that the niche is converting and that niche product is doing well.

(if you want to see the complete article visit my profile hope this helps)

Don't Stick

You should not only stick with Clickbank which isn’t the only tool around. There other affiliate networks, such as......

I'm a fan of choosing niches I love and are also ones that people are actively searching for. Think about what you have in common to what people might be interested in. Something like apparel is always a good one, but specialize in a specific type, like athletic or business casual.

If your niche is fitness, perhaps try targeting a specific population, like older or younger adults, men or women, or bodybuilders.

Yeah, that is a great idea Todd. You always want to narrow your niche down to something more specific. It allows you to establish expertise and authority within the given niche with much more efficiency (as it is more targeted).

Do you think wine would be a good niche? Like promoting different online wine clubs? Is this an area with good affiliate profit margins?

Also, is the idea to start with one niche and then expand into others? I have lots of ideas for niches that I think my audience would like but I'm guessing starting with lots of different ones might get overwhelming?
Reply

In my opinion that's a very original idea Amy.

And you can "test" it further with these tips Expanding into more niches is a common practice, but is recommended to have different sites for different niches. Otherwise it could be confusing both for readers and search engines

Of course Amy! Please check this out https://www.winemag.com/, one of the sites about wine that is highly ranked. Yes, you will get overwhelmed working on various niches. One step at a time, just one niche to start out, the niche that you are most passionate about. You can expand to other niches once you are successful with your first niche. That’s my opinion.
Hope this helps,

I think wine is a potential niche but I believe it's great if you could niche down to a specific aspect/product of wine. There are a lot of affiliate programs on wine. Just type "wine affiliate" in Google search.

You're right that you only need one niche built on one site to be successful. You may expand the niche later covering related products or create a totally new site with a new niche. When starting out, it's important to focus on one niche first.

Hope that helps.

Helpppp!!! So part of the reason I decided to join was to get insight on how to pick a niche... when I visit my webpage and business its more of an informative site. I vision a wide spread of topics being discussed, different products being advertised and sold, and of course me sharing my DIY crafts, t-shirts, couponing deal etc. I don’t know where to start with even finding a niche. I have had a few businesses that I either didn’t produce money like I thought, became a job I dreaded to do, did not know how to market myself, or I simply got bored with. I just do not know where to start...

I feel you, it can be overwhelming at times.
Let's see if I can help by using one of my own niches as an example.
I love music in general. But that is too broad.
What about music? Listening to it? Reviewing it? Composing it? Performing it? What about equipment or culture or education?
Hmm. that's a lot of options.
I play 4 different instruments but I don't want to create a site about drums, bass, piano, and guitar. Most people don't play that many instruments and would not be intersted in all those things.
So I decided to pick one: guitars. Ok, well what about guitars?
So I decided on another sub-niche: Education.
I combined them and got to the "guitar education" niche.
Now I can focus on writing blog posts about guitar education and I can ignore a great many other things that may serve to only confuse my direction more.
So instead of making one site dedicated to everything music, I can now create multiple sites.
Guitar education, guitar equipment, guitar culture, guitar history, etc...
I can then repeat this process with the other 3 instruments I'm familiar with.
Bass education, Piano education, Drumming education.
Bass equipment, Piano equipment, drumming equipment etc...
With each site I can focus my efforts on creating content that will reach the most people who are interested in that specific "sub-genre" of music. These niches allow me to market products and services to the people who are most likely to want them: people who search for those specific things. This is where keywords come in. You want to find a wording your content such that it reaches the most people, giving you the most oppertunites to help readers and provide value. This increases trust in your brand and also increases the number of chances you have to turn site visitors into loyal, repeat customers.

I know this was a long winded explanation, but I hope it helps, even a little bit.
Reply
Thank you it has helped with the insight on how I need to look at it... so I will now try to focus on not only my niche but what could I could do to show off my niche and maybe utilize multiple sites in the future instead of cluttering everything into one site.

Christina,
Take a deep breath and know that you have picked a good niche already in the DIY crafts and subjects. Imagine having both informational products and real (physical) products that you can sell to schools and craft stores. Also, on your site, you can have some affiliate links to craft supply providers that can generate some motivation (in cash form) to expanding. So, not knowing a lot about you, do you have a few articles that you could write about various DIY crafts? A little late now, but creating new and unique halloween costumes would have been a big option.
Reply
I totally understand Christina. I have several companies that I have become an affiliate for their product(s) but as I am reading these insightful posts and questions from our members, a niche unrelated is coming to my mind., What do I think I could write the live long day about? DOGS. So I think I will be looking up products that dog owners could benefit from that I could be an affiliate. I did not plan on this outcome, I have a passion for several things, but things helping dogs and dog owners has somehow risen to the front of my mind. And I think it is because I would feel comfortable researching, reading, writing, and sharing products for purchase for dogs and their owners. WOW. i may have shocked myself. Any suggestions? I could look ion Google trending to see what people are interested in. I could type in a search for affiliate products for dogs and dog owners. Last time I viewed Click Bank there was at least one product. So onward I go.... my new niche....Thank you everyone for your contributions.

OK. Let me try to clarify for myself on all of this....
There are two approaches - one is based on products and the other promoting WA.
There are two approaches to doing a product type niche - one is based on the things you are interested in (that may or may not be a "hot topic" of interest OR to learn about a niche that in fact is identified as something that people are PROVEN to be buying into and learning and then educating yourself about that area of products. Wouldn't it be better to go with an area that is "selling" and learn about it than to pursue an obscure concept that may not be anywhere near as popular as sports fan products as the example given?? I have heard other people say - "if it makes me money, i can learn to love it!"
Another question: As "the internet grows to 4 billion plus people", most of them are speakers of foreign languages as the english speakers are fairly much covered already. Right? So it begs to be asked how to focus the website then -- Only on the areas of the world with traffic that has money and speaks english. It is actually a smaller cache of people in proportion. Is there a way within WA that allows you scale into the foreign speaking markets?? Can you have a multi language website that translates itself also? Just wondering if that can be done.

Hi Don
The internet is growing so rapidly it is truly incredible as more and more companies turn to online to sell their products
The most used language in the world is English and always will be and the opportunities to make a successful online business have never been more worth it and this potential keeps growing due to the trends over the world.
Having product reviews and niche marketing is huge and I hope this better clarifies what you are going to do
I suggest you choose something you enjoy or a product you have always wanted to sell or learn more about and create a niche around this
As you move through the training step by step things will become clearer on how it all works being a premium member here in WA
Wishing you all the best

A niche is just a group of people interested in something.

First of great video, to the point and very informative. I have a good idea which niche ill be starting with. Please advise. Thanks!

My opinion would be that you would be better off using the Spanish words if that's what people will be typing in.

I think the only time when Google may automatically translate it, is if you have installed the Google Translate Plugin on your site, but I stand to be corrected if this is not the case.

Again, I would go with using Spanish words rather if that is the keyword you are targeting.

Let me know if you need further assistance via private message.

HI if you want to find a good niche I think we need to focus on people and what they are looking for but also you have to stay away from the competition because the risk is to struggle with 100 of sites like yours; at the same time when you make a reseach based on your interest, your passions the risk is to find a tiny audience not much responsive and that's bad too. It's very difficoult to make a choice. Aslo I do not know how I can do this kind of research ... what are the tools and the process to be applied to make this research possible? .. what do you think about it? Make sense?

I understand what you're saying but you should never be afraid of competition. If there are100 other sites about the Niche you are interested in, you just need to do it better then the others. Research today is easier then ever, you have Bing, Google and others available to you. Do searches on your competition, find out what they do and work on what you can do better. Jim

I want to reach out to as many people as possible with my core message where I can help people understand themselves better and from that change their view on life, themselves, and other people. This applies to the whole world and is not a niche.

What if your basic product/service is not a confined niche, but you market it to different niches with different needs prior to the main product/service? As a random example, everybody uses shoes, and so you can sell shoes to everybody in all variations, but when you market it, you focus on one niche at the time?

If you focus on one single product for one single niche, the market is quite narrow when it comes to potential reach.

Within my topic, my expertise is to help people stop judging themselves and others, to help them see exactly why we as homo sapiens think, feel, act, and react the way we do. This knowledge has changed my life completely, and it took me a long time to study different fields of science and put the pieces together to eventually implement it into my own life. This knowledge applies to everybody, not only specific groups of people. I cured myself in less than a minute after decades suffering from PTSD - but I don't want to share this only with people who suffer from PTSD, because it applies to everybody.

Does anyone have a strategic input on this? Do we HAVE TO focus on ONE niche product/service for ONE niche market? Or could it be enough to MARKET to segmented niches and bring content to each of them? Maybe my issue is that I have my own product that I want to create and sell, and have affiliate marketing as a side gig to it...My core issue is not to create money through affiliate links but to learn how to market, drive traffic, and create leads/sales for my product.

Thank you :))

I would create a website about you and promote yourself as an expert in personal development. Then you just start by targeting one specific group of people who you believe to be the ones you can reach initially that will help you expand your influence. (bloggers who can benefit from a personal development strategy which is proven to work because you start gathering testimonials from people who tried out what you offer.)

Anyway, I am interested in what your strategy is because I work on a personal development blog myself. As you may or may not know that is a gigantic industry and getting other people to notice you will take time.

You can start by using any niche so that you will be trying things out, gaining valuable lessons learned, and then have even more knowledge about affiliate marketing to share with your readers.

Basically, it's what I am doing except that I use a domain business instead of my own name.

Eric

Thank you @cramervod ...i do follow your thoughts, and after considering further, I decided to start out with a niche within the Law of Attraction field. Yes, there is a lot of 'competition' out there on the personal development side, which is good. It means that there's a huge market. And also, i agree with you that it takes time to build a name. Currently, I have only started posting videos on my Facebook profile with some topics that involve my expertise without revealing it all...just to test the field :)

What area are you focused on within the Personal Development field? If there are a few of us, we could actually help each other build authority through introduction, interviews, references and so on... Special for the personal development industry is that 'competitors' are not really competing at all, but rather promoting each other and collaborating to bring awareness. I love that :)

The angle that I have taken on is "recovering from a difficult past" and "not living up to your full potential". My story is one that involves alcohol addiction which stemmed from many underlying problems where I was feeling inferior, worthless, and deprived of many things.

I have spent a considerable amount of time working on gathering information but still experience some areas where I often feel stuck and unsure of what to do next. I blog about a lot of experiences I have had, where I am going, and where it will lead to once I have put the time and effort into following through with the promises I make myself.

We are in agreement on working with others to help our own interests. I am completely open to working on things and to gain more knowledge while doing so. I am following you now and if you follow back you can check out my site under the "follow me on" section which is located at the bottom right side of my profile page.

How to play a certain musical instrument sounds like a great idea for a niche. You might want to consider which instrument you would like to teach others to play the most, and start with that one. Maybe promote the best book(s) that you used or even the actual instrument itself.

Hi. I think it sounds like a fantastic website. Any Niche you choose will need to be one you will be able to write heaps about . By not restricting your blogs to just flutes will mean you will find a lot of material to post on your website, plus you'll be able to construct lots of reviews. I agree, I would narrow down your niche here to ONE of these categories, and then narrow it down even further to an aspect of that broader category.

I have started in a niche but I have loss my momentum. I really would like to select a niche that has to do with discipleship. Promoting Christian literature, training materials, devotionals, dvd's, christian music, etc. This is my real passion. My first goal is to help others find direction for their life that is meaningful. To be complete the spiritual aspect of life must be addressed. Do I have the possibility of being helpful first and make a little money also? I only want to supplement my retirement income. Making money is not my first priority. In your opinion, can I be successful here?
Thank you for your wonderful training. I love it.

Hi Lee, I have just chosen my niche and don't know if it will be good or not, but my opinion on your niche idea as a brother in Christ, I don't see how you can go wrong. I believe when we put others needs ahead of our own, God will take care of our needs for us. If you need to make a little money and you are doing what God called you to do, then he will provide the money you need. Just my opinion. God bless you in your efforts.

Sure, you can head in any direction. Unless your wife is going to be in full control of the content/website, I would recommend choosing something that you are passionate about versus her (or you could both build websites). A niche can be anything.

I'm into singing and googled a little bit. Without searching too long, I typed affiliate programs + Learn to sing from the heart which I found an affiliate program for it. The question is, do I pick a niche based on what my heart is telling me or what is trending and more profitable?

Hi Richard
I am also a Singer and passionate about music
I would suggest if you are going to do a niche on singing, pick your genre and focus on this however before you decide, have a think about how you will monetize this niche further down the track once you have built a solid foundation
Are a lot of people going to visit your site?
Are you going to have products to sell or services to sell?
These types of things need to be considered and I hope this helps

Good question. IMO a balance of both would be nice but since you are just learning why not go for what your heart is into? You can always try something new later when you are more experienced. Besides, I'm sure there are millions of people out there that want to improve their vocals and if you can provide something like that through the internet then you've found a winner. Best of good fortune to you.

Appreciate it @tslazyk5894. I'm not sure if you see my reply to vickic3, but I mentioned there that this is when it gets tricky. I don't want to move on to the website creation training until I have a niche that I'm happy about, because I started thinking if I could actually have enough knowledge and expertise when it comes to creating content and make it a winner. Singing is very broad and I'm trying to find a way to narrow it down to be more specific. I was considering "How to learn to sing from the heart", but is this even a niche? I'd appreciate some input. Thanks again.

I know it's best to focus on one niche only but I can't help but to have two since I am already involved with affiliate marketing. My one niche is going to be affiliate marketing/internet marketing and the other will be some form of survival supply, not all of them but a certain segment I have yet to decide on. I'm looking right now.

what exactly is the difference between a niche and a website? please i need a very simple explanatory answers all. thank you

A niche is simply the subject you are going to focus on. In your case it may be beauty or fitness.
Your website is place where you inform the world on specific topics within your niche. For example, specific make up if in the beauty niche.
You do not need an amazon account before your start your site. In fact, I advise to wait until you have a few posts on your site.
One thing with Amazon affiliate program is that they require 3 sales in 1st 6 months.
In the beauty and fitness niches, there are many affiliate programs beyond amazon. The training will guide you accordingly.
Good luck. Wishing you much success.

If you want to sell other products in addition to promoting WA, you will want to go through the OEC training as well because you are still looking at two websites. You can’t have two different niches on the same website. Unless your website is a site that’s really broad and not based on any specific niche.

In general, I would just start out with one niche idea. You can always set up other sites about other niches. I have one based on therapy myself.

But stick to one niche website and get it profitable until you start working on a second

Ok, i understand the concept of a niche clearly, but on the other hand I also see where a niche can limit potential growth. For example, i am into cars, I consider my passion for cars my niche. The automotive industry is so massive that if I try to break this down into niches I would need quite a few websites. Where with just one website you can incorporate all the automotive niches. Can I get some feedback please, I am a wayward child right now in need of guidance!!!

That's great that you have a passion for cars. Narrowing down your niche simply helps you to choose what direction you want to go in. Do you have a specific model or type? Functionality or a hobby collecting? Ask yourself what is it that you want to help others with in relation to cars. Certainly you can build it out once you get quality content created, and establish credibility as an authority site. In the meantime filling in the blank - "I want to help others that _________________" will help you decide where you want to begin.

I am stoked about the niche I am choosing. It's Old Pickup Truck Restoration, anything to do with fixing up and restoring old pickups, parts, help books, how to videos, etc. That is my passion and what I daydream about when I'm not busy. I am in the process of restoring a 67 Chevy C-10 that my Dad bought brand new when I was 5 years old. "Ole Red" is my passion and I know there are thousands of guys and gals out there just like me who are searching the web for good ideas and parts to customize and restore their rides just like they imagined.

I am having trouble know what to call my niche however. A little help here would be great.

Sounds like a great niche Rusty.
Do some searches to come up with your niche title. If I were you, I wouldn't too particular on what to call my site. I can always change it. As for the domain url (you can't change after purchase it) I would go for something not too long and easy to remember. If possible, include your niche keyword but if you can't find any, no big issue too. Just choose something people can always relate to.
More importantly is your content.

All the best.

hey guys coming up with a niche idea really has me stuck. I am currently battling with going into one of these. The first is the video games niche, the second is going the aspect of inspirational/motivational niche(because i tend to read books on these alot) and the last i am considering the making money online niche(because i have basically done alot of research on it due to the fact that i am actually interested in the topic because i myself want to make money online but i am kind of scared of this niche because the competition is so much). Please some opinions on these would be much appreciated. Thank you

Any of those can be a great niche, but you will want to narrow it down. For instance the inspirational/ motivational niche, you will want to choose a particular area of motivation or inspiration. The same with the gaming niche. You will want to go with the one that you are most passionate about or interested in, then narrow it down. Just ask yourself what it is that you want to help people with. Hope this helps.

Also with skin care, is that to broad of a subject? Should I narrow it down to maybe face cleansers or masks?

Hi Jessica, like you I have more than one site that I am planning on doing. For me, I chose the one that I was most interested in to start. If you are truly equally interested in both then flip a coin and get started. Taking action is the most important part.

As for the question is skincare too broad a subject I would say no. I am saying that because you will be finding low competition keywords in that niche so you will be narrowing it down in that way, but still have a lot of keyword options. Others may disagree? I came in thinking you needed a really narrow niche but that doesn't seem emphasized too much here.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you

Both sound like excellent starting points. If you’re still stuck, take out a coin, flip it, and choose the niche that you secretly hoped whilst it was in the air that the coin was going to land on.
Also, I think skincare is fine for a niche.

Hi Jessica,
Either one is great. I would choose the one that you are most comfortable with writing content, and for which there is a high demand for products. This choice will get you off to a good start.

With the skin care niche, will it be skin care for people with skin conditions, for adults (i.e. wrinkle creams), for teenagers (spots and acne), for sensitive skin or some other group?

If you can think in terms of how your customer will search for items, then narrow your niche to this you will be onto a winner.
Similar to how you have DIY for toddler rooms (this is specific)

Do a quick google search and you will find some great ideas.

All the best.

You can also do a WA site through Bootcamp. You will just want to choose one or the other. It's best not to try to work on both at the same time. Build up your first site and let it establish credibility as an authority site, then you can work on another one at a later time. Hope this helps.

Hi, I asked the same question when I first started. You are essentially choosing a niche and you build your products around it as you move through the training. Eg. My niche is Gardening tools and supplies. I haven't got to the promoting products portion as yet, but that's my niche. Hope that helps

You are choosing an audience, and within that audience there are going to be many different products/services that you can promote. This could be physical/digital/services or all of the above and it likely will be as you build out your website.

All of what you mentioned are valid. Within a niche, there could be both physical and digital products. You may decide on a niche and then look for products that can be promoted under it. Gayle - i seriously would not try 3 sites at once at the start.
for one you can only create one article at a time , so can you realistically produce 3-9 articles a week consistantly until your sites have beween 40 - 100 articles?
the other thing is that it will take 3 times as long to get any traction, and not taking into account the marketing.
start with one site , create a dump file for the others - so your ideas do not go to waste.
get that one up and running while learning the buiness model and after you gain traction and start getting a small return on investment then start looking at creating another site.
if you do decide to do it - good luck

When I started I had a few niche ideas. You want to start with ONLY 1. Build the first website, get some good content created, attract traffic, and get things rolling before you decide to start your next niche website.

If you do more than one website at the same time it will slow down your ability to make any money. Because it will take you several months just to get one website operating smoothly and possibly earning your first bit of money, you will need to devote all your efforts to that one site.

I chose the least favorite niche of the 4 on my list to do first. The reason why was because I knew that my first website would not be as well created as all others to follow. Being that it would be my first, there were going to be errors created by the learning curve.

I am an artist and love to paint on everything so I am thinking my niche could be paint markers and brushes. But should it be a product that I already know and use? And I saw someone mentioned writing a blog to include these niches, is that something most people do, create a blog around a product?

Yes, you can create a blog around a product, but ultimately you are aiming to make money down the line, so make sure whatever you choose is easy to promote.

Best advice that I can give for picking a niche is to create your webpage first and start creating sublinks in the navigation. Start writing a blog as a draft and see which one makes sense, meaning which subject do you see yourself continuing daily.

After you figure that one out, it makes it easier to start searching up affiliated marketing topics that you can add on to your page.

Sounds like good advice. Within any niche, any of us can reveal unlimited potential in terms of keywords/ideas for content if you have the keyword research process down. But it is always a great starting point to discuss what you know, anything else can be researched.

Hello....I have some ideas for a niche but I would like someone to help me break it down like Im supposed to. I really into financial education and business, as those and things relating to it are my passions and interests. As I was watching the video, the following ideas came to my mind as a niche:

Real Estate
Economics
Entrepreneurship
Investing
Finances
Marketing/Advertising
Credit & Debt
Markets
Business
Leadership & self development

These are the areas where I mostly reside in but how can I break all this down into one niche?

Hi Brandon
Think about how you are going to monetize the niche down the track a bit further and also how you can truly help people with articles you write on your website

All of the niches you have written here are very broad so in order to choose a niche you need to break it into smaller niches for example

Business- What type of business, or is it business equipment, how to build a business, is it an offline business, online business, work from home business,
This subject alone has 1000'sof smaller niches within it

Another idea is to google some topics here and see if it triggers a smaller niche to work with and always remember it will be monetized so choose wisely

Thank you for reaching out Vickic3.......I've always wondered about the term monetize and I'm thinking it has something to do with turning something into money? Basically figuring out how I will make money from my niche? Is my understanding of it correct?

That is exactly what this term means and good luck

Hi Brandon, looking at the list you have provided, those are all market segments, but they are too broad as you may already know. When we talk about a niche we need you to focus on a small very targeted group of people from those market segments.

Let's take Investing for example, to which small targeted group of people do you want to target? What problems will you solve for them, what valuable advise will you have for them? What are you most passionate about? Is it Stocks, will it be Bonds, Investment Funds, Options, Annuities, Retirement, Saving for College, etc. and even with these you can narrow it even further. For example, you want to focus on Retirement, what retirement options can you write about where you have expertise in? Will it be a Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Rollover IRA or Joint IRA WROS (with right of survivorship).

I always recommend people to pick a niche where you feel very comfortable writing about, because the training that is here in Wealthy Affiliate is to eventually create and build your very own website, where you will be writing about your Passion and how you can help someone with their problems. For example, a lot of people ask if spouses are automatically beneficiaries? That could be a title of an article you can write on your website for your readers.

Hopefully this gives you a bit of light of what a niche is, but don't be afraid to ask any further questions. Keep following the training. The training will cover this an all the other aspects on getting started.

As what Kyle mentioned to you, when deciding on a niche and trying to narrow it down to a more specific niche, ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that _____________.

Eddie

Hi. I've been struggling with a niche but think I'm onto something here.

I've wanted to lose weight for a long time now and thought maybe I could create a blog about my weight loss journey. Maybe it would encourage or inspire others to do the same.

I'm just not sure if I should have a strategic plan with keywords and things or just let it grow organically. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

hello guys feels good to be here. I am thinking of choosing a niche between music and soccer because am very passionate about the two though they are very popular and i figured there'd probably be a lot of competition on those niches, music is my first choice though. am thinking whether i should go ahead with it or just change to something else as a result of it's popularity. I'd be most grateful if could get a little piece of advice.

Hi David
I am a semi-retired muso and of course love music
you may want to narrow it down to say instrument, music gear, or something similar and also remember you will want to be able to monetize it as you move forward through the training and have built a solid foundation
Hope this helps
As a free member, you get 2 websites so you can do whichever one you love most and build it really well and then build another niche once your 1st one is getting lots of traffic
Hope this helps

Hello everybody,

So I wanted to have my niche in the natural health remedies category like Seasonal Affective Disorder. Something I really know about. So I made a research and there is 672 000 000 results! That is a lot no? Would you recommend this niche anyway or do I have to narrow it more? Thank you in advance for any help. :0)

Hi Michelle, those results you saw are the most broadest results, so they will be VASTLY inflated. I looked up the real competition numbers through Jaaxy (Wealthy Affiliate's tool) and here is what I got:

The keyword itself gets over 5,000 searches a month and the competition is under 100 pages, so you're good to go here.

Also as you go through the training in WA, you will see more ways to market in this niche, raising that 5,000 a month search volume many times over. I think you have a great option here, just make to follow the training.

Hi Michelle.
I think natural health remedies would be a great niche. There are so many people out there these days that are looking for ways to deal with and heal their bodies with natural health remedies. I say go for it.

I'd say narrow it down if you can. To me, all of those 672,00,000 sounds like they're competitors. Perhaps pointing out something that helps with SAD would benefit you and your business in the long run. By the way, I absolutely love your niche, I've written papers for school on the variety of anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, among other health related disorders. It's more or less what I am studying and have been studying alternative medicine for years now. So I totally get you and where you're coming from. Kudos to you for trying to reach out and help those with mental disorders. It is a real issue in this country (USA).

That's a good niche. You did keyword search on a a very popular term so the result was staggering. This is where the WA strategy on competing low competition keywords will come in. Just continue with your training and you will learn how to strategize with keywords and make your articles competitive. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Trying to figure out what the best niche for me is. I really enjoy video games, and want to use that as my niche category. I play the Xbox One quite often and enjoy playing the big name popular games. I'm trying to think of a video game niche in the Xbox category.

Definitely it's a direction you can head on Jonathan.
Another thing to consider in that niche is whether it can be expanded to related items in future.
Something you should ask yourself
- is there continuation to the existing product.
- what are Xbox accessories you can relate to the niche

I can see it is a potential niche. The challenge is you need to make your site better that existing one already out there (competitors). Better content, better images, better tips and tricks, etc

Finding my niche is a little difficult for me. I am more of a geek when it comes to my passions (hobbies). I like performing music, even though I'm not a professional. I also like reading sci-fi and fantasy books. Not really into sports. I just don't know which one to choose. I've always wanted to open my own music store, selling instruments, and accessories. Maybe that should be the way I should go. I just think that it may be too broad.

Hi there, I'm new to WA as well and learning as I go. This was pretty hard for me too and seems to be the first stumbling block for many. I think that music instruments or accessories sounds like a great place to start. I'd be interested to know what those who have been around for a while think.

I know what you mean. I am finding the same difficulties with Mathematics. I may end up resorting to something that is not my passion. I am over-viewing but I do not want to build separate little sites when I can build a tuition site or blog and fill all the sub-headings with the sub-topics which could be a bit less broad. I did a search for Math Affiliate Programs and I think I can focus on Early Childhood Reasoning and Math, but I also would like to promote other areas. My passion would diminished somewhat but I know I have took this long even before WA but today I will think on this direction.

Specifically on your ideas and background I think you can take a similar approach and focus on types of instruments and accessories in your sub-menus and build a music store site/blog allowing each sub-topic to be a niche.

Hi! I'm really excited to use this website, and I thank you for making such a great platform! I don't want to try, like, gaming gear ( i.e keyboards, headsets, headphones, mice ), but it would seem like my favorite thing to do. What would be your opinion on what I should focus on? Should I go on a broad topic, like gaming gear? Or should I lean more into something more specific? Thank you!
Reply

Since gaming gear is quite broad, you will want to narrow it down to something more specific.

Hello Kyle! Another fantastic video! Doing the search on Google and the Answers site really clinched for me that I have found the best niche! Also, I think it is a good idea to allow folks to do both programs, even if they do come up with their own niche. I personally have thought that having both my own niche and marketing for this affiliation business is a smart idea. Your own customers make the best affiliates...well, I have seen signs around various businesses that say "Our customers make the best employees". This was the idea. You had mentioned in the video to go one way or the other. Why not do both?
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
You can do both, just not at the same time. The reason for this is that it will take you several months of consistent work to get just one website up and running, getting traffic, and beginning to make sales. There is just so much that needs to be done before you can earn money.

If you attempt to do two different websites at the same time, it will slow you down in your journey to make money online. Because it will take you several months for one website, building two at the same time will now make it about a year before you can start to earn your first dollar.

If a niche is broad, can we have narrower content dealing with different parts of a broad niche?
Ex. "Video gaming for families" as the broad niche and then have different posts within that niche that deal with the different aspects of video gaming for families. (different consoles, the mental effect of games, break down of who plays, retro games, popular games). A site that is a source of info for all angles of video gaming.
