Check List For a New Website

For your first website follow the 'Get Started Here' training and do everything Kyle teaches. I couldn't attempt to replace that.

For your second and subsequent websites you can use this checklist.

If you haven't already done so, create a test SiteRubix subdomain: 'wausernametest.siterubix'. This is so you can experiment with themes and plugins without breaking your 'real' website(s).

Register your domain name on whichever registrar you prefer. (Or just use a subdomain on SiteRubix.)

Point your domain's Name Servers to Wealthy Affiliate. The name servers for Wealthy Affiliate Hosting ALWAYS are:

Primary: ns1.mywahosting.com
Secondary: ns2.mywahosting.com

If you need any clarification read: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wa-hosting-setting-up-your-domain-dns

Yes, it can get overwhelming, especially when there's so much new stuff to learn.

Is it my understanding that you can't reply with yourdomainname.com in gmail? I tried this and they want me to pay $5 per month. I have no idea if there is a work around, as our site email isn't doing anything for us.
Reply
littlemama Premium
You have unlimited email boxes with your domain here at WA which you can configure into your phone and get your emails there, why would you need to use gmail?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I use Thunderbird on my computer. It's free for receiving and sending using unlimited email addresses.
Reply
DawnaL Premium
Thanks a bunch!
Reply
DawnaL Premium
As far as I know you cannot send email from your domain email using WA and gmail won't allow it anymore.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I use Thunderbird for all my email addresses including the ones hosted at WA and Gmail. Receiving and sending are both working fine. If you've got a problem then Site Support should be able to help.

Hi Marion, I have several plugin and I think my website's load time is a bit slow. I have instaled:
- All in One SEO
- Exclude pages
- Google XML Sitemaps
- Pretty Link
- Si Captcha Anti Spam
- Social Media Feather
- WP-Spam Shield
In the SiteHealth view, the plugin is at 50%.
Do you think it is ok?
Thank you
Alex
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
As far as I know they're all good plugins EXCEPT Si Captcha Anti Spam. You don't need a captcha when you've got a good spam shield.

Slow loading is more often caused by large images. When I say large I mean pixel size not MB. You should resize your images before you upload them. Make sure your images are not much bigger than they need to be but make sure that you don't make them too small and have to enlarge them after uploading.
Reply
ADias Premium
Hi Marion. Thank you so much for your help. I think you're right, I have to resize all my images. I have much work to do... and I can delete the Capcha, right?
Thank you again Marion.
Alex
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Absolutely you can delete the captcha. It discourages people from leaving comments.

Is there a way to CONTROL which widgets appear on the sidebar for different post? in other words, I have a widget that I only want to be visible for only one post.

There's a plugin for that but I've forgotten which one. Ask the community and someone will tell you the name of it.

I'm glad to see another vote for Yoast. I'm converting today. Also, I feel weird asking the pro if you are going to update the askimet part (lesson 4 of 9) not enough hours in the day to re-hash heehee.

Blessings on your awesome self

Just the recent update from when I was in Mexico for 2 weeks. The fact that they require payment nowand, that WA has switched to WP Spamshield was the only thing I was referring to.

Yes I still recommend this for a second or subsequent website like you are planning. It's just a reminder of the things we have done before and need to do again.
Reply
KDinwiddie Premium
Just to clarify, you only need one Akismet account? No matter how many websites you have? Or do you need a separate account per website?
Reply
Michelle04 Premium
You are right, you only need one account and use the same Akismet code for each website. :)

Perfect! Thanks :)

I copied the one from Amazon and modified it to make it universal.
Reply
BeYou Premium
Except I didn't get accepted at amazon yet. They said not enough pages or traffic or something. Do you know what the minimum is?
Reply
BeYou Premium
Thanks I will do that. I guess I create a new page, and non index it, so its not classed as duplicate content. I also posted a comment.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I don't know what their minimum is. I got booted out of Amazon because I didn't make a single sale in 120 days. :-(
Reply
BeYou Premium
oh, that's tough. What do you use now for affiliate?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I'm using http://CJ.com and http://ClickBank.com both deal in digital downloads. http://CJ.com make you jump through a couple of hoops to get accepted by each individual advertiser but http://ClickBank.com is easier to get started. There are lots of products to choose from so you just find something that suits your niche. I'm promoting a Law of Attraction course on http://believeit-achieveit.com and software and graphics on http://whiteboardfx.com
Reply
BeYou Premium
Great advice. Can i ask what is favicon? And good point about plugin website.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Thanks for your comment. A favicon is the little picture you see in the tab when you have a page opened in your browser. The SiteRubix favicon is blue and red. WA's favicon is a blue WA. You can see a few of my favicons in your browser if you go to http://333websites.com http://whitewitchcoven.com and http://believeit-achieveit.com. They are just 16x16 pixel pics that represent your website.

There's no hard and fast rule, the best way is to check how long it takes for your website to load, if you think it's too long then disable a plugin or two.
