Hi everyone and welcome to another edition of Shawn's Tutorials!

Today I want to walk you through the process of changing your title and/or tagline on your Wordpress website.

This is a pretty cut and dry process and this tutorial will be a short one :)

First we need to define a title.

A Title is not the address of your website, it is what you name the site.

The tagline is under the title.

This would be the line of text under your website name.

Say your website name is "Johns Radiator"

You would want a tagline line might say " We Work On All Makes And Models"

Here is a snapshot of one of my sites.

There is only a title on this site at the moment and there is no tag line (See arrow below)

.

Now lets go change the title and add a tag line!

I changed the tagline days ago but when I put the URL in the address bar I still see the old tagline. This is particularly bothersome because I had changed the niche (which is why I changed the tagline) and now the tagline that shows up doesn't even make any sense for my site. I have checked and double checked that it saved my tagline, so why isn't the right one showing up?

If you can't change this in wordpress, it might be an issue with your theme.

Contact support here and see if they can figure it out. Seems like an easy task to do in your Appearance section.

Hi Shawn........Isn't the title the URL? Don't understand why I would want to change that. Also, what is the benefit of the tag line? Does it have a keyword in it?
Many thanks.

Hi Wayne. The title is not the URL, the URL is the website address, the title is what the name of the website is.
Taglines can be used as keywords I guess, and they play a huge role in branding.
Think about this
Brand: Burger King
Tagline: Home Of The Whopper
Home Of The Whopper is the tagline and also the first thing most people think about when they hear Burger King

Thanks Shawn. How to change the font size of the site title and how to put the tagline in the center of the site title?
My site title fonts is smaller compare to my post/page title H1 size. I don't know how to adjust.

That I have no idea on, except maybe to use a custom header with the specs you want there
