What are Face-to-Face (F2F) Values? What do I mean by this?

The way the majority of people behave towards each other, face-to-face are based upon important values of demonstrating your respect and consideration for others when communicating. My argument is, although there are differences between face-to-face and online modes of communications; people are common denominators in both and therefore the same values of respect and consideration should be used as a base.

What I am referring to specifically are all the polite behaviours we were taught as young people from our family, our friends and from our first work experiences. Most of these often now are referred to as 'soft skills'. Often these skills were taught to us through life experience. These are important behaviours and unfortunately appear to be dying out to some degree. Here are a few practical examples of face-to-face (F2F) communications to bring this to life:

Show Respect by making eye contact with someone while you speak to them.
F2F = not distracted by your mobile phone or electronic device while communicating face-to-face.

Consider others by Actively Listening.
F2F = focused 100% on who you are in the company of and listen not continually interrupting.

Inviting people to exchange contact details if you believe you can both help each other.

F2F = not adopting the (what I call) 'machine gun fire' action of handing out multitudes of business cards to all you meet without determining their interest level.

• Thanking people personally when they assist you.

F2F = not dismissing people and moving on with new conversation with a new person once you’ve 'got what you want’

• Asking permission to send information on what you do in business.

F2F = not collecting business cards and just putting them on your email list without asking if they're interested.

There are many more examples that we may all have experienced but by keeping some of these values in mind (and there are many more); these can guide you in the way you interact, network, connect and communicate with your existing and new online networks successfully.

Do share your own experiences in the comments of this tutorial.

Let’s now bring some of these ideas to life for online networking in the next lesson with some specific examples of applying to WA.

Flower!! This is most excellent!! Thank you so much as (sorry if this sounds arrogant) I have reached a point that few trainers offer me anything.

However, I have found a vast and mighty supply of greatness. Anyone who ever sees another needs this value.

Most excellent.

Well done on your first training Fleur! Really enjoyed! You made me think, not only of my online communication but my offline communication too (especially the bit about eye contact and not being distracted by phone while in conversation with someone). Thank you for providing meaningful ways to master networking and some really great ideas on how to apply these skills to our online life.
