Thanks for clearing up the differences between a website and a blog, and highlighting how different the choice might be depending on whether one wants to stay private behind the scenes, or more visible. I definitely need to be visible as I begin my life as a blogger, though I was just wondering if Wordpress offer websites, with blogging platforms also included? Or is this complicating things too much?

Hey Lesley,
All the free WordPress themes come with blogging platform.
Personally, I have found only one premium theme that did not let users use the blog portion of WordPress, and that theme is no longer on the market.
Therefore, it would be my guess that even premium themes come with the option to use the blogging platform.
