This tutorial is aimed at the newbie affiliate marketers or website builders...or anyone who hasn't had time to trawl through the, literally, thousands of plugins available via Wordpress.

If you know all about plugins, have heard of or have installed SumoMe, or just think a tutorial based on how to install a plugin is daft...then feel free to stop wasting your valuable time and flit off into cyber space and do better more productive things ...

b

If, however, you fancy learning about a plugin that can and will work wonders for your online business, or if you know that plugins slow your site (WA recommend no more than 5) and you wish to learn about one that is fast, won't slow you down and offers about 15 plugins in one ansd is an easy simple install, or if you want to grow your list of subcribers, generate more traffic, build your links, greet your visitors, allow sharing and follows, get google analytics data made simple plus do a range of other very cool things....then read on and be prepared to make money!

Great job. Very clear and easy to follow.
I have to admit, tho, that I still feel a bit intimidated by the whole email thing. I just recently got my first few subscribers.
Not even sure how that happened. But clearly it's time to get smarter about this.

A great training Jason, thank you.

Your explanations of the features has helped me to decide how to move forward with two websites that need significant growth.
At this stage I need Free tools and of course I can't have free SumoMe on both sites. I now know what I need to do and that is thanks to your training :)

Hi Jason, thank you for this training. I am really so green about all of this... tried installing the app to my website. It is there, it shows as one of the plugins. But when I tried logging in the sumoMe site for further info, it was telling me I am ot authorised for this site upon entering my email and pw.
I must definitely have done something wrong... please can you help? Thank you

Hi Jason, went through your excellent training and started to set it up. Can I use Sumome and capture emails and send autoresponder messages without upgrading to Sumome Pro.. Trying not to add another monthly expense.
I already have a Aweber account. When I was in the List builder app and went to 'integrators' it seemed that every one required me to upgrade. Maybe there is another app inside of Sumome that will allow me to do... All I want for now is a Capture Form that I can start capturing emails and then send a autoresponder campaign.

If I want to grow my list of subcribers, generate more traffic, build my links, greet my visitors, allow sharing and follows, get google analytics data made simple plus do a range of other very cool things ... are you kidding me?

And all these powerful features and our site loading and functioning will not slow down?

I see some folks find some of the feature annoying. I assume you don't have to activate all of them?

Have any users here quantified their traffic and conversions improvements?

Thanks Jason

I use Sumome, and no, you don't have to activate all the features -- you just pick and choose. I started out with all the features, and then have trimmed back based on reader response.

SumoMe's List Builder (free version) does not allow a name field. Does anyone know of a free pop-up plugin that allows a name field to be added?
Reply
WRyan Premium
I don't but I do recommend two things:

1. the paid version of SumoMe, it really is worth it. I've customized my welcome mats and I get quite a few conversions

2. Don't ask for the first name, the less info you request the more conversions you get. yes you want your email marketing to be as personal as possible,, but look at a guy like Tim Ferris: he doesn't ask for first names and he has over 2,000,000 subscribers.

SumoMe is a nice plugin, but I keep it deactivated because it decreases my result in gtmetrix, also the crawlers can't finish their job in Fetch as Google(Search Console).Last time when I tried to activate it, it did not work!

I tried Sumome and found it quite intrusive - the floating bar covered some of my side content, and I loathe the welcome mat. Whenever I come across one I instantly click away - it's like a hand in your face before you've even decided whether or not you like a site. I know many people love Sumome and I really tried to like it but just couldn't. Sorry!

I use another exit intent popup (Thrive Leads) and the difference in conversion is huge.

Yes, it is better to wait for a while, because when a plugin isn't compatible with your theme it can easily screw things up and causing some issues.
I know this, because once I had a problem with a plugin, which at the time I wasn't aware of it.
Kyle than found out and fixed the problem. :)

Jason, I do update regularly soon it is available. However, the plugin I had a problem with was once compatible with my theme and I had this plugin almost for a year.
I never thought of it this was the problem, but it was and when Kyle told me that I had to check it out for myself by activating and deactivating the plugin. voila, it was the problem.
So, I am even more aware and check it out.

How do I get my email confirmation to go out? I pushed the subscriber list to mad mimi.. What am I missing?
Reply
JasonGB Premium
If youve linked it then it should add your subscribers when they sign up. For those already subscribed before you linked I believe you'll need to import them as a file .. I'm not 100% how madmimi works but I had to export and import already subscribed folk into aweber but now I'm linked as a new subscriber signs up via Sumome they are automatically added to my list.
Reply
PJonline Premium
Yes, that is good, Jason, so glad to hear this.. Been fighting with the process, okay, so with that said, does that automatically generate a email confirmation? Or are we responsible for creating that as well..
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Hey
Sumome won't send an email response but if you've linked it to your madmimi list then your subscribers will get any autoresponder messages that you've already set up. So they should get the double opt in message initially and then be part of any ongoing mail you've set in place.

Hey Jason! Awesome walkthrough of SumoMe.

Just one question, does this plugin slows the loading of the website? Isn't it to heavy?

Thanks again and as always very helpful material!!!
Kevin
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Hi Kevin
Some people do say it slows their website load...however it has actually helped me speed mine up...and it was never slow. I think if it slows your website you probably have another plugin conflict.
Because of SumoMe I could get rid of a number of other plugins and bring my site plugins down to 5.
If you look at the features it actually removes the need for a number of other plugins. Social sharing is often a heavy plugin so remove any of them if you install SumoMe.

Hi Sami
Easiest way is to go to plugin installer in WordPress dashboard. Choose select new
Search SumoMe
Select and press install
Then you'll get a screen asking if you want to activate or return to plugin installer
Select activate
And it will do it for you

If you want to upload your zip file
Go to plugins
Select new
Then rather than search and select you'll see an option which says uploaf
Select upload
Then it will ask you to choose the file from your computer
Select your zip file
Upload and it's done

This is cool stuff Jason, with tons of awesome tools. Thanks bro!

I do wonder though - all this for free ... what is SumoMe getting out of this. I wonder what data they are mining from our sites and what they use it for.

I've heard (take it for what it is) that some keyword sites use our searches to buy up good keywords and then resell them. I wonder if giving so much data about our sites to one company is a good thing to do.

Any thoughts on this?

Great training and I love the tools SumoMe has to offer ... I'm just concerned about giving them so much access.

ROCK ON!

Hmmmm Brother! Now you got me thinking I hadn't considered that aspect.
I think the main thing they get is people loving the free stuff and being tempted to upgrade to the paid version *which I don't have but look freakin awsome*
Plus they get our email address
However if anyone has thoughts or knowledge of any other more sinister intentions I'd love to know also.
P.s. I reckon the keyword poaching is probably right. I also heard some registrars to the same and monitor domain searches and if they see an awesome domain being found they snatch it before it can be purchased. Could be just speculation ...eeekk
Cheers E
J
Reply
EKautz Premium
Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about SumoMe as they probably are just trying to entice folks to buy the paid version. I'm hooking mine up today, do you know if it slows down your site very much?

As for the registrars, I heard from several folks in WA and outside WA that these are hacked by poachers. Again, "I heard" this and have not seen it myself but it does make sense so I am careful to check my keywords for domain names when I am prepared to buy immediately. Easy fix I guess. :-)

off to SumoMe now :-)

Thanks bro from another mo!

This was a really informative article. Many thanks. I already have sumome and am using a lot of these features (I especially love the heat map) but I didn't know about the traffic feature and the contact form. I will definitely set them up. Just one problem though. The window mat is awesome in my opinion - and I think you have a pre-selected choice of backgrounds you can choose but you can't customise it (ie use your own images) unless you pay. I was sad to find that out. But it's still a great plug-in. On my site garethnaylor.net I don't know why but the rather obscure tab called categories gets a lot of clicks (I found from heat signatures) and it's actually a tab I didn't want on my site. So the heat signatures can show you some really interesting stuff. And my calendar tab which I hated because it is too long is also clicked a lot. So it looks awful but people are clicking on it. So the heat thing can show you a lot. The only problem - I've made no changes! Will do though.

So here I am. I have my autoresponder (mailchimp) set up. I downloaded SumoMe plugin and built my first list. Even captured a few email addresses.

Now what? While in my build a list on Sumome I come across this Success Redirect Url. What is that? What specific url do I want to redirect to?

Another question. Do I create the emails in the autoresponder?

I know, I told you I just can't wrap my head around this and it's gonna drive me crazy until I figure it out. Or until someone helps me along. LOL

Hi
No problem at all
You can build a page that says thanks for subscribing, looking forward to working with you and any other info you want to share. This would be your success url and will replace the standard you are now subscribed dwfault message. You can make it suit your site and add pics.
And yes any emails you want sent are designed and linked via your auto responder . Sumo me will add emails to your auto responder list and your auto respinder sends out your regular emails
Hope that's helpful

That is very odd. I'd go to plugins and uninstal then instal again
May be a glitch with installation .
If that doesn't work it may be conflicting with either your theme *check to see if it's compatible* or it may be conflicting with another plugin. Sometimes plugins don't play nicely with each other....
Firstly....you did create an account and verify your email when you installed?

Hi Jason I am back. I got letter from SumoMe, saying that the problem would be within my theme. However, I also went into sumome's reviews and found this review which strongly suggested not to install it through the current wordpress plugin area because sumome doesn't update or configure it well. It suggested to install it through the app called google tag manager. When I went on google to find that, I found also that google tag manager wants you to insert code in the theme. Then I found a plugin ( Duracelltomi's ) that installs google tag manager in your wordpress which makes it easier to install without messing with your codes. Now I am stuck. That would be three plugins but likely only one because google tag manager would be inside of duracelltomi's and Sumome would be inside of google tag manager. I copied the info into an rtf file that I don't think I can attach here. so I will PM you and see if I can show you what I mean.

What theme are you using Daisy? Just curious.

Hi Suzzette, I use Customizr which allows a child theme to be deployed.

Ok....crickey sounds confusing. But I think in know what you mean and yes it'll count as one as after successful instal as I'm assuming once installed you can get rid of others. I haven't had any conflicts with Sumome and themes so new territory for me
I'll check for your pm

Hi Jason, thanks for always teaching me something new. I'm going to give this a go. Question - you mention it could replace some plug ins. From what I can tell, I don't think it can replace any of mine but somehow I ended up with 15, and Kyle recommends 5. Cheers, Hindy

How you feel about the "Discover" item in SumoMe? It promises to bring you more traffic, in return you will have to send traffic to others by having other people's posts in a widget on you page. You earn some credits wich you spend when your posts get on other blogs.
As a beginner site like mine, with very little to no traffic, would "Discover" be a plus by bringing traffic, or a minus by sending what little traffic you get, to others?

I personally like it on a new site as it brings more traffic than it loses ..if thst makes sense. If people found your site they'll remember it so you shouldn't lose them if content is quality but the traffic you get from other sites is a bonus.. so I personally would say go for it

Thanks Jason. It makes sense as that was my main concern. But i guess at the beginning, there's not much to loose in the first place. And you are right, even if i redirect my traffic to other sites, they leave frrom MY site and as long as I have quality content, there's no reason for them not to return.
Thank you again. I will set it up as soon as I have content to keep them coming and staying.
