Who is this training for:

Those interested in optimizing their posts and pages for mobile viewing.

What you will need:

A WordPress website

First things first, what is Amp? Amp stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages and was a project started back in 2016. The objective of the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project is to allow publishers to create mobile optimized content once and have it load instantly everywhere.

Now that we know what AMP is let's log into our site. On the left side bar click Plugins, Add New

Type 'AMP' in the search bar where it says "Search Plugins"

You should see AMP - Accelerated Mobile Pages Project - by Automattic. This is the plug in we need to Install Now.

*If it says "Incompatible with your version of WordPress" then you will need to click the "Please update now" at the top of the page and after updating to the latest version of wordpress go back to Add Plugins.

We are going to install AMP by Automattic

Hi there. I am reading a lot about this plugin. It appears that it doesn't work well for a lot of WA members.plus, they have the option to resolve the Google search console errors only if you pay them.
So I am really stuck with deciding weather to use it or not. Please share some feedback. Does it have a real effect and do you have many errors in google webmaster tools?

The primary goal of Amp for me is to allow a faster loading time for mobile visitors to my site because the full page would take so long to load that I was losing mobile visitors and for me it's all about retention. You sacrifice on ad revenue but make up for it on visitors. For me once I go to a site and it takes too long to load and I've lost interest I very rarely go back to that site. Most sites I visit aren't by mistake I'm usually searching for certain information. Amp allows you to provide the information the visitor is looking for upfront.

I understand that. I am mostly concerned about the google search console errors and the fact that it doesn't work with many of my other plugins.
I wouldn't even care about the google errors as well if the support didn't offer to clear those errors as a paid service. I think that's lame. Did you have any errors in GSC?

Yes and you are correct they try to make money off you on the backend. Or try to figure out the errors yourself. In my opinion Amp is not long lived, soon you will see a WordPress update that will give you better mobile-optimization built in. In the meantime a visitor that wants to view the full site can click Request Desktop.

Just an update for those you are installing this in 2018: you don't need the 2 plugins...just AMP For WP. AMP For WP has the other one bundled inside of it......just thought i'd share since I installed this today!

will AMP still work if you don't use one of their three version themes or templates? I like how my site looks on mobile and not so thrilled with how AMP versions look. thanks ahead!

You do have the option to "view more amp themes"...not sure if you saw that. I agree with you. I don't quite like how it looks, but if you think about it, that's the purpose of AMP.....to provide a simplified/dumbed down version of your actual posts.

do you find this is a better way to go for mobile?

seems more than 50% of users are on their phones these days.

are there metrics to follow on GWT to see and compare if AMP is actually faster and better than not using it?

Jay mentions in his last 2017 video that it's best to get potential customers over to their laptop or desktop to do their purchase so perhaps the speed over looks with a call-to-action on mobile is the way to go and use AMP for that reason.

I know speed is everything for uses these days!

which of the three 'themes' are you using on AMP and do you have a reason other than the looks?

Again, Thank you!

The reason I installed AMP is because I believe it will boost my rankings.....if it does, then I'll expect more traffic to my site.....it's a no brainer the way I see it.

I chose theme 2 as it looks the most cleanest compared to the other 2. Let me know if you have any more questions!
