If you're just joining me now, you may want to visit the first three episodes of this training:

All About Themes: Part 1 - Layouts

All About Themes: Part 2 - Subjects

All About Themes: Part 3 - Features

You will need the information contained in those tutorials to make your decisions in Lesson 2 of this tutorial.

First, create a test site on .siterubix.com. Make sure to mark the entire site as 'noindex'. Or, alternately, you can place it under a maintenance plug-in. I am going to be creating a tutorial on how to set up a test site soon, but for now, just create something where you can test your theme choice.

This is all incredibly helpful. Thank you. Please keep going! You could certainly do "Themes 201" about how all the items in the customizer work, etc. etc. Is there a link to this tutorial in this section of the basic training? I didn't notice anything, and it really should be there. This is my second go round, trying to get set up here at WA, and I've just run up against the same thing that drove me crazy the last time: THEME ISSUES! I lose so much time, trying to figure it all out; it really takes the wind out of your sails! Anyway, many thanks. And I'd also like to see your tutorials on creating a test site, theme builders, and what about backing up your site?

Thank you for putting all this together. I also followed the links to your previous training and now have a much better understanding of terms i.e., "columns" , purpose of side bars, etc.

Your rationale for choosing a theme is excellent.

I am still a little confused when I see the option to add a menu - isn't one enough? Why would I need more than one menu and where would I put this second or third menu?

Where menus can be located vary by theme - they can have several locations, I like header and footer menus - header for navigation and footer for the legal stuff.

Of course...a footer menu for the legal stuff. Makes sense now. :-)
