This training coincides with Day 3 of the Affiliate Bootcamp. In this video I am going to be walking you through the process of setting up your Wordpress site and getting the initial framework in place.

I will be covering the following topics:

  • Setting up and Activating your initial plugins
  • Which Plugins you can ignore for now
  • How to create your initial pages
  • What your privacy policy page should look like
  • What your About Me and Getting Started content should accomplish
  • How to write in a way that connects with your audience
  • How to create a new user within Wordpress

Also, here is the sample Privacy Policy that I created on my website (that you can feel free to use if you want):

http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/privacy-policy-3

If you have any questions about any of this training, let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

So I just made my first site on here, but it only has two plugins installed by default. All In One SEO Pack and EWWW Image Optimizer. What happened to the others in the video? Is it a starter limitation, or are those plugins deprecated now, or something else entirely?? I'm so confused.

There was a software update and they are now built in. U do not need the plugins anymore. U are fine. :)

they updated the hosting so you don't need the ones in the video - they are updating the course videos s-l-o-w-l-y! :)

so you have the ones you need

there is no need for antispam and exclude pages now, and the new optimizer is for speed ;)

So I'm watching Kyle's video on setting up the seo plugin, I just activated my premium account, and I'm on the "home page description" part and where he is describing how to complete the area "home keywords" when I go to my SEO general settings and navigate to that area, that option isn't present. Use Static Front Page Instead: enabled or disabled is all I see... Can someone help me out? I'm sure ,like always, I'm probably over looking or thinking it. Thanks Al.

Oh and if the title HOME appears twice...just erase the one in the Title Field. I remembers seeing another parameter for that years ago but no more.. Perhaps I'll look again.

I finished setting up 2 websites. I decided to do 2 sites at once so that I could follow along and implement the ideas on both sites simultaneously. While it may take a bit longer in the beginning, I am glad I did as it will save time in the long run. One comment - when my 3 pages were a "draft", I looked all around the dashboard to add the comment form like Kyle used in his demo. Wasting much time finally realized you need to publish it to show.

This lesson was very helpful as a starting point. One thing I noticed is that the third part (after home description .. the keywords part) is missing from the version that I am seeing. I also see a blip saying to update to the Pro version of SEO. Do we need to have a pro version or can we stay with the current one?
Reply
FTurner8032 Premium
So far I have not upgraded to the Pro version of SEO. Just me, others will also share their opinions with you and you will be able to make an informed choice that best fits your needs.

You don't need the pro version of the SEO plugin. There have just been some updates to it recently so it won't look exactly the same, but similar enough...and it still works the same!
Reply
JonnyHouse Premium
i'm sure you have figured this one out by now but you can scroll down the page and there's a check box for using keywords , which when i enabled that the keyword box appeared. No need to go PRO, the free and updated version is fine.

Do you need to have a getting started page? Right now since I am new to blogging and my site is new, there is no getting started that I can think of to add aside from directing them to the home page or about me page. I know that I can add the promotion about coming on board wealthy affiliate once I am more familiar with it, but how about in the mean time?

The lesson helps you to design your site if ever you don't have an experience. So it instructs you to have the basic pages including getting started page. You can follow that and have it and fill in the contents in the future.

I suggest that you take your time and figure out your niche and start adding valuable content about that. Just a suggestion

Would anyone care to look at my site and leave a comment, ask questions or just give feedback?

After setting up my WordPress blog I entered my three new pages:About me page; Privacy Policy:Getting Started.
I saved them as drafts as instructed.
I am now unable to login to work on them as WordPress says my login details are invalid.
They want me to delete my "Hello World" page and start writing.
But how can I when I am unable to login to my admin area? I do not want to start again configuring a new password.

Did you try logging in through the SiteManager on WA instead of through WP? If you do this, try resetting your password first. There should be a white button to the left of your blue login button. This should reset your auro-generated password. Good luck!

Often clicking the reload/refresh button on the SiteManager page works, reloading the page from the search engine also. Also often times if you have Jetpack set up it will cause login problems if used before site is set up. Hope that helps. Otherwise Site Support ticket will solve for sure!

Hi there, you can probably leave the email part out at the moment as I'm pretty sure that Kyle will go through some training on exactly how to create an email address attached to your website.

He seems to be running the training here almost the same as in the Certification training and the email part come a few sessions after the 'setting up' process.

He will probably also show us how to 'forward' those emails to an address you use all the time so you're not having to check several inboxes.

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Hey there Chris,

Well done on working through it...

I would leave the Google account there for now, it might come in handy further on down the track, I know he went through creating a Google account in the Certification course and I'm thinking he will probably do that for the Bootcamp training as well.

It's great for the alerts and keeps you in close contact with what's happening inside your niche.

Anytime I can help I will...

Just send me a message.

Cheers,

Hi there, I'm on Course 1 lesson 3 and I went through the video step by step to set up my site. My problem is that the video dashboard doesn't match what came up on my site. For instance the only plug ins that were loaded were the SEO and Exclude pages plugins. The All in one SEO pack was different too but I think I got it set up ok. There was no plug in for the captcha and I forget the other one, we didn't need it yet anyway. I tried to install the Buddy Press plugin for a comments section but it added two pages to my site. I figured I had better stop and ask for help before I have to start all over...lol.

Hello, I have noticed the same thing, The way that I look at it is that if it's not there, then someone has fixed for you already. These pages are being read by thousands of people daily.
For now, I just keep plugging along thinking that anything that I don't understand will be explained again later. Just jump over the stumbling blocks and keep going...

Hey, you are totally right in that they look different somehow to Kyle's does. I think a couple minor things are not the same in the installed plugins and some of the SEO setup.

The Akismet plugin is the other one that you want to install and activate when you initially set up, along with the other two you mentioned.

I started checking into additional content and whatnot after getting along a ways into the training, and I found it works best to at least have a good amount of content before getting too "crazy" with plugins.

I hope any of that helps. I realize I am commenting two days "late" in a sense.

Also, it's SI CAPTCHA (Anti-spam) that you were missing. I went back to check and see what you were saying in this comment, and found that I had missed it also. Thank you

Help please? I am technically ignorant.

I have all my content for these tabs written and added to my site. I formatted a Word document and include pictures but when I cut and paste the document it loses all formatting and pictures. I've tried attaching the document as media but it then shows up as a link. I also tried saving the Word doc as a webpage and that didn't work either.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can get my Word document transferred to my site with formatting and pictures?

Thanks for your help,
Gloria

You can't Gloria. You can only transfer text to Wordpress. There is a conflict in the code between WP and Microsoft . You can edit your text in visual mode

I have been playing about with my website and added colour and titles bars. After watching and hearing Kyle mention that he prefers the white background so the eye is drawn to the content, I'm wondering if I should change mine.

Is there a reason that white backgrounds are better? I am happy to change it, as I'm learning and want to know what works.

Thanks to anyone who helps me with this in advance. ;)

Awesome video. Does the getting started page have to be called getting started? Also, can the About me page just be called About and explain the purpose and drive behind the website? I guess what I really need to know is if it matters to follow exactly this template of creating the website?

Hi I have questions about this lesson, so there are difference 's here, from my page and your page that I'm not sure how to follow along really. So on the home page settings you have 3 box's home title, home description and home keywords, I have the first two box's, but I don't have the home keywords box. I have a use keywords, and it is at the bottom of the page and it is under keywords settings. It is under the title of Keyword setting and it has a disable, enable button. So I saw that you enabled the keywords in the home page settings, so should I do that at the bottom of my page? I'm not sure if they were changes after you made the walk through video so maybe that is why the page is not the same as your? How can I make sure that I set up the page right? If you could help me I would really appreciate it.

Thank You
Linda

I'm confused, because my all in one SEO set up page doesn't look the same as the one you are showing on you walk through video. Like on the home page settings I only have all in one SEO pack and Exclude pages from Navigation. I don't have the keywords box. It is at the end of the page. So I saw that you enabled that so do I do that also at the end of the page? If you could please let me know.

Is there any recent training (I'm guessing there is) that goes over the newest changes to the All in One SEO? I mean, should I just leave the default settings the way they are? There are brief explanations by way of the question marks on the left of each section in General Settings and Help buttons at the top of each section there as well, but it's over my head.

Lesson 3 starts right out with the following url showing on the video: "waystoavoidascamonline.siterubix.com/wp-admin.index.php" and already logged in. I quickly figured out that I must use "mydomain.com/wp-admin/index.php". I also quickly figured out where to find my login id and password. Those two little things will cost some newbies an hour or more. It is not a minor oversight.

Start with the niche and don't continue until you have something...
