Adsense Sites – How to Make Your First $1 with Adsense

There has been some discussions, to create Adsense sites or not to create...
Why give away commission for just cents or dollars when you can make more?

I have found some niches to be good for Adsense sites, (not saying I would add Adsense to any niche) or any other advertising program for that matter. In this case we will be talking about Adsense but there are other advertising programs that you can use as well.

If you get decent traffic to your site, Adsense can be a easy way to start making your first money online. I had been playing around with small niche sites and affiliate offers and wanted to try a plain Adsense site out.

I did some research and put my site up, it was a ugly little site, but I got it to rank on first page of Google and the CTR was high... I made $530.52 the second month with the site, this was May 2011, yes I wanted to create more Adsense sites after that :).

Should probably through this in. Disclaimer – this is how I did it, I do not guarantee any results or monetary compensation for anybody

The site has since been up and down in the rankings. I have not added much content to the site and it still makes me money. Last month July 2012 it made me $83.16 not bad for a site that I have not done much with in months.

In this Adsense tutorial we will talk about:

  1. What niches to chose when creating plain Adsense sites.
  2. Keywords - Go for high CPC or low CPC?
  3. Should you combine Adsense with affiliate programs?
  4. How to get the Adsense Code from Google Adsense.
  5. What Adsense Plugin to Use.
  6. Where to Place Your Adsense Ads.
  7. Not Approved or Maybe Banned from Google Adsense.

Lets get started!

What if you choose high CPC keywords with high competition and you won't rank, but you have traffic coming in from social media?

I'm sharing everyday on social media and I'm getting about 100 visitors a day with a few clicks. I can still drive traffic to those high CPC posts and get clicks and make good money without evening ranking, no?

I have another question. Do I have to put the CPC keywords in the title every time? Lets say I have 10 high CPC keywords I want to use. Do I need to create 10 separate posts each targeting a keyword, or can I just stuff them all in the content within 1 post?
Reply
JennH Premium
The purpose of achieving Google Ranking is to get high traffic, which you already seem to have so there's no need to worry about that. that's especially the case if your viewers are sharing your posts and links on their social media pages.

The more posts you have with high SEO keywords, the better off your site will be. Just doing one post with all of them won't do you much good, you need to continue adding content. If you have multiple keywords in one post, that's fine, but make sure to try and put keywords in most, if not all of your posts. As far as keyword placement, each post has it's own website link. I think having a keyword in the title increases your chances of being ranked higher, but it's not a requirement. You can include it anywhere in the content of the post, multiple times if you'd like.

In your Adsense training you stated you checked Flippa and came up with these niches. What does Flippa do and what did you check under at the Flippa site?
Reply
Labman Premium
Flippa is where people go to unload their sites. You can peruse what people are selling and get ideas on where you might get a viable opportunity. Don't buy their sites though. You don't know what sort of history they might have.

In the html view of the post, use the the opening <div> tag right before the image/content you want to add the 'style' to. At the end, close end of the chosen image/content where the 'style' is being applied to with the closing </div> tag.

Very helpful, thank you. I tried copying and pasting manually and using the widget, but got the same result both times. I turned off the widget but left the ad I added manually here:

http://liveinthepoconos.net/the-not-so-dreadful-commute-to-and-from-new-york

The add is all the way in the bottom and shows as a pink bar with no content. Any clues what I need to do for it to actually work?

Does anyone know if you can use BOTH AdSense and say, Amazon Affiliate ads all within the same website? Can you add link ads to text for adsense as well as adding an Amazon ad on same page lower left across from adsense ad? Or, can you put amazon ads on one page and then adsense ad link on a different page within same site?
Reply
DomW Premium
Yes you can do both together
Reply

May I ask you another question? In general, would you say that there is more opportunity for ad revenues over the long run if I create 10 sites, versus only creating 1-2 sites, but focusing more time on those 1-2 sites? Obviously, I know that my niche choice and content is key to this. But, if I can maintain a daily organized schedule to manage and update with posts each day/week ALL 10 of my desired sites....wouldn't that bring me more opportunity to earn revenues? I am just trying to establish my long-term goals. I am only focusing on learning all that I can during creation of my first site so I can use it to build additional sites here. But, my passion is not related to my first site. I have other expertise niches that I would like to build sites for and proceed with them.

Also, is it better to search the lists to find the best niches with the most traffic and then build a site around those?

Or, to go with your niche passion and build around that regardless of how much interest there is in it on google searches?

Thanks a million!

Thanks for this information - maybe you can help me? I have placed an "adsense" ad on my site, then later on went to place another one. The original one was fine, the second one I copied code and placed in "text" wiget for sidebar. It just runs an exact duplicate of the other ad. I did take note that in "adsense" it was definitely a new ad. Please help. Checked the questions above, but just explaining how to ad them. Thanks! and again, thank you for this information. JoEllen

veronica.l Premium
It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Are you saying the same content in the ad is showing? The content of the ad will be based on many things... what's displayed on the site, previous searches of the visitor and so on... what shows for you might not show for your audience, the ads are customer to each visitor.

Or is the issue the size of the ad?

Let me know if this helped or if I'm on the wrong track :)

What if you don't want to have adsense on every page or post the widget will have it on all your pages. How do you have it on only selected pages? And Where in your text content area is best to place the code. On the top, in the middle, or on the bottom ? Where in the body of your content?

Which is better CTR or CPC? What doe CPC means?
Reply

You can't compare them. CTR stands for click through rate (number of times your ads are clicked) and CPC stands for the cost per click, basically how much people are paying for those ads.

Hi there, I don't know which plugin you are referring to however, as a general rule, I would look to confirm that the plugin is compatible with my WP version. Secondly I would look to see how recent any updates are, also are there any comments you can read with regard to the particular plugin. I would personally look very closely before installing if the plugin hasn't been updated for so long.
This is just my personal opinion though!

You can actually do both. You can copy and paste in the code exactly where you want it, on a specific page or post.

If you use a plugin then you set a specific place to show the ad, at the end of the post, for example. The ads will then show on all posts and/or pages.

I tried to apply for adsense today for "www.shortgameprowess.com" and they told me that I had already applied and had a current adsense account with them. I'm not sure how this could be, since the play-solid-golf site has not been hosted for over a year.

You have to have a properly built website with some contents.
Google Adsense will come and look at your website first before they approve it.
They will reject if your website is no good.

Update from below: AdSense is on my first site and it makes me crazy!
It's in the way, so I swithed to text ads and that wasn't any good. Plus the ads are absolutely in no way relevant to the site. Well some are but others not so much. Doesn't seem worth letting AdSense take money from me. They give you pennies and some of their ads were my own Affiliate Merchants.

Hi Veronica,ok my site is all about tools, rather it's a drill or laptop a phone or a ipad or book or even a chainsaw, these are all tools that everyone uses, how should I utilize adsense to my advantage? If I ever figure out how to manipulate my content properly in wordpress, I'd like to incorporate this strategy into my site ultimatetoolsource.com to help generate income and make it a useful experience for my customers. I have so many questions I could ask and hope you might take time to respond from time to time(your one of the only successful W.A. members that has actually taken the time and I thank you for that, ultimate success for your and yours thx DaveMc

Hi Dave,
I see that you use Amazon I would focus in on that. Write helpful reviews of the products and then add a product link to Amazon.

You need to stay focused and organized though. Let me use this as an example "barbeque grill, weed eater, blower,t.v., xbox360,iphone and ipad, just to name a few." you need to focus in on one area at the time. If somebody is late in the buying circle (and that`s what we want because they will be ready to buy :) then they are very focused on what they want.

Use iPad for an example, if I am browsing around almost ready to buy an iPad then I am looking for specific information about this product. If I see weed eater and BBQ grill in the same sentence I would most likely leave right away... At that point I want to know pros and cons... why is iPad better then the Kindle, how is the battery life... I want to find out if the iPad is really what I am looking for.

Stay focused and provide helpful info,

Veronica

Dumb question probably, but I have my adsense code and do I just insert it into the text tab and position it where I want it in my post or page or do I need to go into some sort of editor to insert the code? Is it necessary to install a plugin to get the code installed. Currently code just shows up as code when viewing my page or post.

The code absence gives you should only be a matter of copying and pasting into your web page for it to work (in the text tab).

Hi,
Personally I don`t like showing my ads on those pages but that is up to you. I assume you are using a plugin and you can probably adjust it within the plugin settings.

3 ads per page is fine but you don`t want the ads to take over the site... You don`t want your visitor to land on a page and see only ads.

Hi Veronica,
Thanks for the tutorial.
I got approved in Adsense and Infolinks.
Tried to put Infolinks, but they occupied all the terriitory, tried to manage the colour and quantity, didn't work. Probably, takes time, although they say about minutes. So, I deactivated the plugin for now.
Now, while trying to configure the Adsense, I read your tutorial and started thinking about traffic.
Traffic is the main pain for me now, although I have 23 posts and 17 pages.
So, how big traffic is supposed to be to place Adsense?
And, if I install the adsense plugin, wouldn't it go around the whole website and not to the pages or posts I want to place them to?
Reply
veronica.l Premium
Hi,

Here is a post about traffic,
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/veronica-l/blog/5-ways-to-get-free-traffic-to-your-website

I can`t give you an exact amount but if you have no traffic there is no point of placing ads yet, then work on getting consistent traffic first.
You don`t have to use the plugin, you can add the ads manually...

Let me ask in a different way. I have made 4 different websites for various activities and events. I have never placed an ad on any of them. If I were to apply for adsense and be accepted, could I then place an ad on all of my websites? Or, would i have to be approved for each site individually by domain? -or-do I need to set up a "central domain" for future/multiple adsense approvals?
Reply
veronica.l Premium
You apply to Google Adsense using one of your websites. You get your account set up. You can then within that account set up website channels for the other sites. You do want to set up these channels so that you see where the clicks comes from.

So apply with the "best" site and then when you are approved you set up channels for your other sites within that account.

Does that make sense?

Veronica

It's been mentioned that "you need your own domain name to use adsense" Does this mean the website domain which hosts the actual adsense ad or a separate domain that links adsense to multiple websites run by me personally for the purposes of payment and credentials?
Reply
veronica.l Premium
Hi it means that for you to be approved by Adsense you need your own domain. After you are approved you can use that account to display ads on a .siterubix.com site for example. Does that answer it for you?

THANK YOU : I am working with an ARTISTIC WEBSITE [Poetry]. I think, that I can get enough traffic, in order to get an Adsense Income. I have, however noticed lately, that some AD VALUES HAVE DROPPED IN PRICE. I was wondering if Google intend to get more ADWORD BUSINESS by lowering their price ?? This would explain, why they are making ORGANIC TRAFFIC HARDER.
Reply
veronica.l Premium
Hello and thanks for reading this training.
I think that a poetry site would be a good Adsense site. I have looked at some poetry keywords in the past and back then at least there were lots of traffic with little competition.

The way Adsense "set their prices" is by competition. So you might have a keyword with lots of advertisers that drives up the price. If there is low competition then the price will be lower. This is not necessary bad a lot of people stay away from the low price niches but the key here is that you can get lots of traffic...

$0.05 and massive traffic OR $5.00 and low traffic, I have tried both and both can create good income.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Veronica

Reply
You can, but only if you have an owned domain that has been approved for Adsense first. So if this is your first use the answer is effectively no. Once you have been approved on an owned domain you are free to use the same identifier on all your sites even the free ones. I hope that helps.
Reply
I have had some success with Adsense and found that there is no problem in getting paid if you have a Privacy Policy that contains a paragraph about using cookies for this purpose (you can get the wording quite easily by searching on-line), or I can send a copy from one of my sites (message me). This must be on all your sites that contain Adsense.

Google like it if you set up direct payment to your bank account (increases their trust level?).

Very well done tutorial Veronica.

What actually gets a person banned from Adsense?
Reply
Low quality sites that do not offer any solution to the reader and that try to sell too early on the page. If you read the guides on the Adsense site they are fairly specific about what could get you banned. Do not try to get Adsense for any site other than an owned domain, although you can use it anywhere once you are approved! (Another weird Googleism!).

Ok, thank you for your answer I really appreciate it. My question here then is this: Do you place these helpful articles all on your Blog Roll? In other words, you do not put each helpful article on a seperate page? i.e 15 helpful articles = 15 pages for that particular website? I guess the reason I am asking is because I was under the impresion that you can only have so many ads on one page but if all the articles are on the Blog Roll page then only three or so articles could have the adsense in them at any time. Looking forward to your answer and thanks again
Reply
veronica.l Premium
If I have 15 articles I like to organize them in the sidebar under relevant headers. So for the example below organic milk I would have a header say "benefits of organic milk" then the articles could be "organic milk benefits for toddlers" "organic milk benefit for growing teenagers" "organic milk benefits for senioirs"... Sometimes I also add a blog roll showing 5 articles at the time.

Hope that answers your questions, let me know if there is anything else you are wondering about.

Hi Veronica, I was wondering what kind of content you put on your page. Not in terms of subject because you addresed that, but is it more so like a helpful article on each page? How many words is a good ball park length? How many pages do you suggest per adsense site? Am I on the right track here or is your page content in a different format other than helpful article?
Reply
veronica.l Premium
Hi there,
With my Adsense sites I target a niche and I write helpful articles about that topic. So say you are building a site around organic milk and want that to be a plain Adsense site.
Then I would write articles about "benefits of organic milk" "what is organic milk" "should adults drink organic milk" " horizon organic milk"... another topic could be "grants" then possible articles could be "best grants for college students" "what grants to apply for before getting out of college"....

As far as article lenght I want to have at least 400 words on my posts, no more than a 1000.

How many pages, this really depends, but add helpful content to your blog consistantly and it will slowly grow over time.

Let me know if you have any further questions,
Veronica

Hello,
You do not need different code for each ad. Feel free to PM me the site and I can take a look. If you want to email me the code I can take a look at that as well...

It usually takes a few minutes for the ad to "go live"...

Is the Adsense account still good? You can start "earning" before all details are squared away, you might want to make sure the account is still valid.

The trick, as always, is to be able to get it to be #1, so keyword selections is important. I've also found out that people in the last stages of buying don't click on the adsense ads on my sites. People in the earlier stages do.

I've found out, for me, anyway, sites built around: how to kind of keywords get me more clicks. My click through rates on my best adsense site based on late buying cycle stages has a click through rate of 3-4%. My best one built on keywords people use in the earlier stages of they buying cycle gets me 9-11%, one month it got me 5% (which is still higher than 4).

Nice one, Veronica.
Reply
veronica.l Premium
You are right, number 1 keyword is what we want. We need volume, lots of traffic to these sites. It also help when you work with niches that have high CPC (cost per click), but don`t underestimate the niches with low CPC though, lots of traffic can add up.

Just an example, I checked the average CPC and CTR (click through rate) this year on my Adsense sites:

I have one site with a CTR of 21%, CPC is only $0.10 but it still bring me some good money with that high CTR.

I have another site with a 2,27% CTR but the CPC is $3,27 so that brings in some good money too.

Thanks for adding this, think I will have to add this to the training.
