Adsense Sites – How to Make Your First $1 with Adsense

There has been some discussions, to create Adsense sites or not to create...
Why give away commission for just cents or dollars when you can make more?

I have found some niches to be good for Adsense sites, (not saying I would add Adsense to any niche) or any other advertising program for that matter. In this case we will be talking about Adsense but there are other advertising programs that you can use as well.

If you get decent traffic to your site, Adsense can be a easy way to start making your first money online. I had been playing around with small niche sites and affiliate offers and wanted to try a plain Adsense site out.

I did some research and put my site up, it was a ugly little site, but I got it to rank on first page of Google and the CTR was high... I made $530.52 the second month with the site, this was May 2011, yes I wanted to create more Adsense sites after that :).

Should probably through this in. Disclaimer – this is how I did it, I do not guarantee any results or monetary compensation for anybody

The site has since been up and down in the rankings. I have not added much content to the site and it still makes me money. Last month July 2012 it made me $83.16 not bad for a site that I have not done much with in months.

In this Adsense tutorial we will talk about:

  1. What niches to chose when creating plain Adsense sites.
  2. Keywords - Go for high CPC or low CPC?
  3. Should you combine Adsense with affiliate programs?
  4. How to get the Adsense Code from Google Adsense.
  5. What Adsense Plugin to Use.
  6. Where to Place Your Adsense Ads.
  7. Not Approved or Maybe Banned from Google Adsense.

Lets get started!

What if you choose high CPC keywords with high competition and you won't rank, but you have traffic coming in from social media?

I'm sharing everyday on social media and I'm getting about 100 visitors a day with a few clicks. I can still drive traffic to those high CPC posts and get clicks and make good money without evening ranking, no?

I have another question. Do I have to put the CPC keywords in the title every time? Lets say I have 10 high CPC keywords I want to use. Do I need to create 10 separate posts each targeting a keyword, or can I just stuff them all in the content within 1 post?
Reply
JennH Premium
The purpose of achieving Google Ranking is to get high traffic, which you already seem to have so there's no need to worry about that. that's especially the case if your viewers are sharing your posts and links on their social media pages.

The more posts you have with high SEO keywords, the better off your site will be. Just doing one post with all of them won't do you much good, you need to continue adding content. If you have multiple keywords in one post, that's fine, but make sure to try and put keywords in most, if not all of your posts. As far as keyword placement, each post has it's own website link. I think having a keyword in the title increases your chances of being ranked higher, but it's not a requirement. You can include it anywhere in the content of the post, multiple times if you'd like.

In your Adsense training you stated you checked Flippa and came up with these niches. What does Flippa do and what did you check under at the Flippa site?
Reply
Labman Premium
Flippa is where people go to unload their sites. You can peruse what people are selling and get ideas on where you might get a viable opportunity. Don't buy their sites though. You don't know what sort of history they might have.

In the html view of the post, use the the opening <div> tag right before the image/content you want to add the 'style' to. At the end, close end of the chosen image/content where the 'style' is being applied to with the closing </div> tag.

Very helpful, thank you. I tried copying and pasting manually and using the widget, but got the same result both times. I turned off the widget but left the ad I added manually here:

http://liveinthepoconos.net/the-not-so-dreadful-commute-to-and-from-new-york

The add is all the way in the bottom and shows as a pink bar with no content. Any clues what I need to do for it to actually work?

Does anyone know if you can use BOTH AdSense and say, Amazon Affiliate ads all within the same website? Can you add link ads to text for adsense as well as adding an Amazon ad on same page lower left across from adsense ad? Or, can you put amazon ads on one page and then adsense ad link on a different page within same site?
Reply
DomW Premium
Yes you can do both together
Reply

May I ask you another question? In general, would you say that there is more opportunity for ad revenues over the long run if I create 10 sites, versus only creating 1-2 sites, but focusing more time on those 1-2 sites? Obviously, I know that my niche choice and content is key to this. But, if I can maintain a daily organized schedule to manage and update with posts each day/week ALL 10 of my desired sites....wouldn't that bring me more opportunity to earn revenues? I am just trying to establish my long-term goals. I am only focusing on learning all that I can during creation of my first site so I can use it to build additional sites here. But, my passion is not related to my first site. I have other expertise niches that I would like to build sites for and proceed with them.

Also, is it better to search the lists to find the best niches with the most traffic and then build a site around those?

Or, to go with your niche passion and build around that regardless of how much interest there is in it on google searches?

Thanks a million!

Thanks for this information - maybe you can help me? I have placed an "adsense" ad on my site, then later on went to place another one. The original one was fine, the second one I copied code and placed in "text" wiget for sidebar. It just runs an exact duplicate of the other ad. I did take note that in "adsense" it was definitely a new ad. Please help. Checked the questions above, but just explaining how to ad them. Thanks! and again, thank you for this information. JoEllen

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Are you saying the same content in the ad is showing? The content of the ad will be based on many things... what's displayed on the site, previous searches of the visitor and so on... what shows for you might not show for your audience, the ads are customer to each visitor.

Or is the issue the size of the ad?

Let me know if this helped or if I'm on the wrong track :)

You should not insert ads until you get a steady flow of traffic

What if you don't want to have adsense on every page or post the widget will have it on all your pages. How do you have it on only selected pages? And Where in your text content area is best to place the code. On the top, in the middle, or on the bottom ? Where in the body of your content?

If you put the code in a Sidebar Widget, you will see it on every page. On top, is suggested.

Which is better CTR or CPC? What doe CPC means?
Reply
DomW Premium
You can't compare them. CTR stands for click through rate (number of times your ads are clicked) and CPC stands for the cost per click, basically how much people are paying for those ads.

Hi there, I don't know which plugin you are referring to however, as a general rule, I would look to confirm that the plugin is compatible with my WP version. Secondly I would look to see how recent any updates are, also are there any comments you can read with regard to the particular plugin. I would personally look very closely before installing if the plugin hasn't been updated for so long.
This is just my personal opinion though!

I use this on another of my sites. I have made £120 in 2 years so far lol. Hopefully that will change now that I am here on WA.

You can actually do both. You can copy and paste in the code exactly where you want it, on a specific page or post.

If you use a plugin then you set a specific place to show the ad, at the end of the post, for example. The ads will then show on all posts and/or pages.

Hi Rzhang, if you have just been approved by adsense it can take a few days before the ads show up. Also, you can't see the ads until you publish your post and "visit" your site. They won't show while you are still in your dashboard editing. For me it took 7 days before the first ads showed up on my posts. Hope that helped, if not, ask again :)

Hi Veronica:

I used to have a website called "www.play-solid-golf.com" a while back. It no longer exists and hasn't for at least a year.

I tried to apply for adsense today for "www.shortgameprowess.com" and they told me that I had already applied and had a current adsense account with them. I'm not sure how this could be, since the play-solid-golf site has not been hosted for over a year.

I could not reply to a person and their help files were no help. Can you give me a clear idea how to tell AdSense to disregard the non-existing play-solid-golf.com site and use the existing shortgameprowess.com site instead?

Thanks.
