If you're strapped for menu space, this is a great way to put your privacy policy and affiliate disclaimer out of the way in the sidebar. I forgot to mention in the video that if your theme has a widget area for the footer, you can also put these links in the footer that way.

Even if you just want to make a collection of specific pages on your website, adding a custom menu to your sidebar this way works too!

Hey Nathaniel,

The widget called Custom Menu ... it is GONE! :-O

Am guessing that disappeared (along with Press This under Tools) with their last updated. :-(

Found two plugins available that you can add to your tutorial as an update if you would like:
https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-sidebar-menu/

https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-sidebar-menu-widget/

Thanks for your awesome tutorial.

UPDATE: 26 July 2019

The second plugin linked above now shows a warning: "This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress."

Please do a Google search for this to see if other plugins might now be available.

Hey Trish. I just tried to do this and discovered the Custom Menu was not there. Is this now the Navigation Menu? Hope you see this post as this is back in 2015 and I am in 2019 :). Do your two links you gave still apply?

Nathaniel, I've managed to create a new menu as described and included my privacy policy within it and moved it to my footer.
However as my theme only allows one menu, I cannot erase the policy page from my top menu.
Any ideas?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
You can have multiple "menus", but it sounds like your Top Menu is the only custom menu area (if that makes sense). You just need to select the previous menu you created, and remove the privacy policy from that.
Reply
damienmorgan Premium
How then do I move the privacy policy from the top menu?

Thanks Nathaniell. I don't have a footer widget with my current theme (though I may change it) and this is a really good alternative on where to put some of the pages you mention.

Because of the training here, I also figured out how to create drop-down menus as sub-menus under my main catagories. This is exciting as hell and I see my page starting to take shape. I've been here one week and already have learned so much! Thank you to you, and all the guys and gals here at WA for the most awesome trainings, help and advice.

I have been struggling with this for several hours. Now I did it this way. It showed in my footer but under Privacy there is a hyperlink that says menu items. What did I do Wrong?

Can you post a link so we can check out what you have there? :)
Reply
Shawn Martin Premium
That is downright weird.
This should be pretty simple, just go into your menu section and create a menu with what you want in the footer, then save it.
Go to your widgets section and use a custom menu widget and select where you want it, drag it there and choose the menu you want there, click save and you are done.
I am not sure what happened here.

Ok I am going to delete what I did and start all over..Thanks for checking.Marv. There is one other question about this. When I copy the link should it be in Edit Mode or thru Search ( as in Google) and how much of the link do I take? Thanks again, Marv

Nathaniell, I must have done something wrong. The pages I wanted to move are still in the header. And the new sidebar in the footer doesn't open up to show the move. Help.

So instead of putting my Contact Page in a custom menu, I can just put it in the footer side bar?
Reply
Gregory57 Premium
hello dmpatt. It's easy and saves some space in your header menu. Both options are possible.

Thanks. It worked, but now I have those pages in header and footer. I'm scared to delete from header. Will I screw things up? Is it safe to delete pages from header?

You'll have to upload your content from your backup you did How to Back Up Your Wordpress Site - Using Tools Export

If you didn't make a backup, tech support may have one. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Could you please have a look at my website and see if I can improve it by moving my privacy policy to the footer? Also, I have 10 tips, each one occupying a whole page and somehow, the 10 Tip got put on the opening page (not cool). Is there a way to make it flow better?

Hi Howard, the information in your site is great but there seem to be a few glitches. Your tip #10 is in between tip #1 and tip #2. So, move that and it'll look even better :)
