Here at Wealthy Affiliate there are many lessons. classroom tutorials and other resources to ensure that visitors keep coming back to your website. Articles and posts that teach us how to create great content, make it easy for visitors to subscribe and share updates, and have a newsletter. Sometimes everything hinges on a smaall detail - where you place the email sign-up button, the size of the share buttons, breaking up longer blog posts and pages to tease people into wanting part two. Survey data from heat maps (measuring how long people look at different areas of our web pages) shows how human faces faces keep people's attention for longer than anything else, which strengthens the case for showing your face! In digital media, everything gets measured and scrutinized, and data is big business.

But what about on a more human scale? In the spirit of generosity, openness and sharing, what else will help turn your blog into a community where people will return and engage with it regularly?

Recognize and Reward

  1. Everybody loves recognition. Talk about the writers and the work that inspires you. Give space over on your blog to other writers, and link to their blogs.
  2. Support and encourage others you come into contact with, no matter how much of a beginner you may feel in comparison to others - you can still help your readers, commentators, reviewers, publishers, editors and industry/niche colleagues.
  3. Always attribute content that's not yours, and always say thank you.
  4. Apart from goodwill, what else can you give away? You don't have to offer for free something you would normally sell. But you could do it for others, and they for you - in a e-book giveaway swap, for example.

Indeed Mike. It's a great system we have here at WA and it's a classic example of what I am talking about in this tutorial. We are very lucky to have such power at our fingertips.

Lovely post. I think this human approach is one of the points of difference this online community and course/products has. It's not a bad model to learn from!
