Thanks for this educational video. I like your style and your content.

I have some questions.

1) Is there a maximum number of words that an article should have? I notice that you said that 1 article of 3000 words is better than 3 articles of 1000 words each when talking about the same topic.

2) If the article is long, should it have a table of contents at the beginning?

3) If so, at what stage should a table of contents be considered? I think that if an article is less than 2,000 words there is no need for a table of contents at the beginning of the article.

There is no maxium, but yes, a TOC is highly recomended, it allows you to add internal links within a particular page, using a method known as Anchor Links, that point to a Heading's ID Tag. The following Training might help, and it also uses a plugin where you can automate this, based on number of headings etc.

Thanks for your reply. I did use a plugin to create TOC table a while back, and now do it by hand. Time to rethink that decision. :)

I had forgotten that plugins use a number of headings to determine this.

So although there is no maximum is there an optimum number of words that a post should not exceed?

It is possible with list type of posts that the number of items in that list grow over time and writing quite a bit of useful quality content about each of those points can turn a 2,500 word post into a 30,000 word post. For instance there might be 4 items in list coming to 2,500 word. This over time becomes a 25 items in list with a 30,000 word post, with not the same number of words per item.

Personally, I think 30,000 words is too much, if each list expands in to 2,500 words, then I would create a new post for that section and link between the two.

Always gauge it by the visitor and yourself, would you visit a website and want to read 30,000 words of text in a single post?

It depends on the Niche, your Audience and your Competitors.

Hi David,

1) I think there is not a specific maximum for an article. Many posts from SEO gurus such as Brian Dean and Neil Patel are over 10,000 words long.

2) Yes table of contents is good in my opinion.

3) I'd recommend putting table of contents after the intro. Get people hooked in the intro and then let them find what they're looking for with the table of contents.

Very useful video, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

I learned the followings:
1. Don't worry about the layout of the website or the Logo, they will not rank you higher.
2. Focus on writing articles or blogs to increase traffic to my website.
3. Focus on useful Title that will increase interest of reader to read the blog.
4. Have long blog, at least with 6 or 7 paragraphs and 2000 words.
5. Have at least two or more internal links to other blogs I wrote and one external.

Blessings,
Vivianne
