Why Backup?

I often see questions from members who have somehow "lost" some of their Posts and Pages.

One reason could be that they have not backed up their websites.

It can be heartbreaking and frustrating to lose your hard work, especially when it could have been prevented.

There are several ways to backup your website, and I recommend that you do not rely on only one method. When you have your website backed up in several ways, you minimise the chance of anything going wrong with it.

So here goes with Method 1.....

Thanks for the tutorial it was great
Just one question do our posts/pages automatically save into the wpclone or do we have to activate it every tome we back up a post ???
Reply
Chrissies Premium
I think they would if you left it switched on, but as we are advised not to have too many plugins, I prefer to activate it just for the update, and then deactivate it till the next time :)

Is it okay to use the Export and Import functionality between 2 different WP themes?
Reply
TopAchiever Premium
Yes it is, as it matters not which theme you use, just save the one you want to keep.
If you want to be cautious, rather test the theme on WreckSite in siterubix - here's a link to more info on a WreckSite for testing all things in WP:

Great tutorial. There are also a lot of free and paid plugins to help backup your website. Wrote an article on it here: http://blog.tbwhs.com/best-wordpress-backup-plugins/

(sorry not trying to highjack your tutorial)

Not at all Garen, no worries! I think the more ways you use to back your website the better! :)

Thanks. Chrissie. I've wondered how well exporting your website material would save it. Still, I took someone's advice and use a plugin. Well thanks to you I now know:)

Thanks Christie. Great training for backup of site. For the content backup, it will backup all the contents at one URL right? Do we delete old backup when you backup again ?
Reply
Chrissies Premium
I would keep a few of them, I keep about 5 or 6 just to be on the safe side, but delete all the older ones:)

Thank you Chrissies but during restoration on wp clone I get an error message. Is there anything else to do aside pasting the link and restoring?
Reply
Chrissies Premium
That is unfortunate Queen, I haven't had that problem.
That is why I would recommend using all the methods, the if all else fails you have got your full posts safely on your Word or Powerpoint program on your computer, and then you would have to replace them one by one. But that is far better than losing them completely :)
