Introduction

It took me a long time to buy into the idea of joining Instagram simply because I was so hooked on Pinterest.

When I started researching social media channels I chose Pinterest because the half-life of a Pin is 3.5 months which means it takes 3.5 months for a Pin to get 50% of its engagement. In comparison, the half-life of a tweet is only 24 minutes, and the half-life of a facebook post is only 90 minutes.

When I read reviews comparing Pinterest and Instagram they sounded very similar to me. Both are visual platforms driven by beautiful photos.

I couldn't quite grasp why it would be worth my while joining Instagram and so initially I joined just as myself (@laurenjeankinghorn) just to check it out and keep in touch with family.

I looked at few profiles of Instagram influencers in my niche and some of them were gorgeous! The penny dropped and I decided to go for it.

On 3rd February this year (2017), I joined Instagram as Inspiring Mompreneurs and Happy Human Pacifier.

My first goal was to get my Inspiring Mompreneurs profile to 1000 followers so that I could become an influencer on Webfluential.

For interests, sake (and to add some colour), here's my top post so far (posted 9 April)

Great article. I am very new to all this. I have an Instagram account for personal use , just to put on my own photos. My question- where do you get these nice pics to put on your Instagram account and are they free when you are starting out?

Thanks Tracy. A lot of my pics come from the Moms I interview or photos I take myself. Sometimes I download free images from Pixabay.

My phone seems to be too old to be able to connect with Instagram, halfway the sign in the process stops.
Tried to login via FB, same issue

Oh no, Loes. How frustrating. You can login via your pc as well. Adding pictures is a little trickier via pc but its do-able.

I have tried that, but I had a clear moment, I do have a tablet somewhere at the bottom of my drawer, I dusted it off and my daughter just placed the Instagram app on it and it works! But now I have to figure out how to get my website pictures into my gallery to be able to place more on Instagram. I have seen yours now:) Lovely, and I want to make those pictures on Canva too, to make them a bit more interesting.
So I have some work to do:)
First Canva, then uploading to the tablet and place them on Instagram. Pfewww.

update!
I managed to add one picture to Instagram, using canva and my tablet!

Woohooo! Well done Loes! I'll go check it out now - ooh, stunning pic! Left you a comment.
Gramblr is also a great photo uploader if you want to upload directly from Canva on your PC to Instagram. :)
