What Is The Wealthy Affiliate Ranking For?

So now there is a new algorithm in place in Wealthy Affiliate Ranking and many are asking what is the Wealthy Affiliate Ranking for?

Simply put, it is a motivation to Pay It Forward in a world where there is such an emphasis on trying to make money out of the knowledge one has gained.

What does a Doctor do? He attends to the sick by imparting his learned knowledge.

What does a Lecturer do? He teaches students by imparting his learned knowledege.

What does a Lawyer do? He provides legal services by imparting his learned knowledge.

...and so the list can go on.

What do all of these have in common, yes, their learned knowledge, but you have to PAY to receive it.

Wealthy Affiliate is different in that respect as there are MANY learned people who are members of the platform with MUCH learned knowledge and a lot of them impart Internet Marketing Skills to the members within the platform without requiring them to pay.

We call this Paying It Forward with an attitude of gratitude.

This attitude is VERY infectious and many have started earning a good income from gleaning the learned knowledge from within Wealthy Affiliate.

Why don't you try it and see what the Wealthy Affiliate Ranking is for and impart your knowledge to those needing to grow and build their online businesses?

You will see the difference it makes in someone's life and how much better you as a person will be because of it.

Need to know more about how the ranking works?

I think we can all agree that this blog will win you points for engagement. Ha ha ha

Craig, this was not the intent of the blog, it may well gain points or not, but that is not the point.

The point is to explain to people the aim behind the Ambassador Ranking Program

Pay It Forward

I know, that's why I laughed, because I found it ironic.
I fully understand (and support) your original intent.

I like when people help me and I like helping out as much as I can

Keep up the good work and you'll see how rewarding it is.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Ranking is a fact of the community but remember that we are here for other reasons also

Absolutely - you've hit the nail on the head.

Interesting post...

As can be seen from the comments below, between Ambassadors no less, there will always be controversy surrounding rankings here or likely in any system...

The new algorithms have picked up some of the folks that deserved to be in the top 25, and others who maybe should be or could be will have to work a little harder to get there based on the changes...

At the end of the day, I do hope that the top members add value, but do so with a bit of grace and from a perspective not of superiority or we know everything better than you viewpoint, rather with a genuine desire to help people...

It percolates through to the way replies and advice are passed on, the attitude that is reflected in the words used, and in my case, whether I pay attention to the content of what is written or not...

Ranking is important in some systems, here not for money, but real additional value that the person brings to the site. That is good. It is how you present that value that makes a difference too...

I do take umbrage at some of the attitudes I see from the members who have been here a while, whether high ranking or not, and present themselves here in an arrogant manner...That turns me off, I tune them out...

Like some of the semi-famous bands we have here in Dubai, they may be big fish in a small barrel, but in the big pond they are little fish in a huge ocean of fish, and some of those fish out there are REALLY big...

Me? I like fishing, but seldom have time these days, too much going on with my online and offline worlds! Still WA is one of my favorite hangouts...

Good follow up post to Carson's and also some good conversation going on...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Thanks Dave, well said!

Thanks for stopping by Dave!

It's always a breath of fresh air reading your responses and learning from your words of wisdom.

I agree - humility and grace and always key in a platform like this.

Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

Edu

I couldn't agree more Loes!

I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments, Dave. You have a great way of looking at things from different angles...I guess that would be your military background.

Interesting analogy, Edu.

Personally, I like the ranking system. Do I agree with it 100%? Absolutely not! But, that's okay. I came in at # 663,217, so yeah, I wanted that number to improve, lol. But was that my focus! That would be another "no". My goodness, I never even heard of the term "affiliate marketing" before joining WA, so no, the ranking system was not my priority. Did I have moments of obssession? Yep! But luckily, that was short-lived and I was able to refocus. Being stuck with one of the lessons for a few weeks wil do that for you, lol.

For me, the stsyem - the Certification, Bootcamp, posts, comments, questions, Live Chat - that's the 3-course meal. The ranking system would be the after dinner mint. Nice to have, but if it was missing, it wouldn't diminnish the meal.

I like your synopis and it makes me want to eat a 5-Course Meal! :-)

Hahaha...I wish I could prepare one now and share it with you guys!

That would be awesome, but in a manner of speech, you have figuratively done just that - and it was quite appetizing! :-)

Hahaha...you're quite the charmer, Edu!

Thanks for sharing.

You are most welcome.

nice about helping but I don't think we need a rank system for that, and that a. it is still clearly being gamed and b. more than 25 people could be helping big time but only 25 places for #'ambassador'

- but the doctor example - erm - that's a bit of an outdated romantic notion - outside of emergency care where you need a limb reattached after an accident 99% are now secretaries for big pharma which is the biggest industry in the world or right up there and that is the core attitude - money, and many of them now are 'doctor entrepreneurs' where they basically take our jobs as affiliate marketers and boast about their 7 figure passive income while lying on the beach doing damn all work in office any more while we end up scouring blogs written by peeps like us to find the cause and resolution of our illness rather than succomb to a life of medication...

I agree that the new system can still be gamed.... I mentioned that in my blog a while back when I mentioned that those who were upset at the loss of rank could still move forward again. I suspect that is what you were reacting to when you said you were surprised that I cared about rank. I don't care too much, but I do understand how important it is to others.

I wonder what would happen if instead of rank, the "pay it forward" attitude would offer some other sort of reward. Something more tangible, like receiving credits for the feedback/ comment tool , or something that someone more creative than me could come up with.

Hi Craig, I guess it's not so much caring about rank sometimes as caring who and what 'outranks' us and how and why - phew :D

well I'm seeing fb groups out there where people just help help help, it's their nature, whether they even know what they are talking about or not - so the whole reward thing still seems unnecessary...

we would be talking about much more interesting things right now if we weren't all forced into this rank thing - that's why it's such a hot topic, can't shake it off

though honestly there are newbies in here right now, people deciding whether they will take up premium, people wondering if they will stay - we need to see the dashboard filled with material other than posts about wa rank...but as long as the platform tells people to aim for rank and aim for ambassador then how can this whole distraction ever go away

only 25 places = competition, and title = elevation, there's a whole psychology to it that has good and bad apsects, but ultimately responsibility on the part of the owners and the members...

Nothing I can disagree with there.
any time there is something even vaguely competitive, people will compete. Period. When people compete, there will by necessity be "losers" for lack of a better term, and that is unfortunate, because no one here is really losing.

I have seen people say they are reconsidering membership due to losing rank and I just don't get it. I feel that's like dropping out of university because they changed the type of pie in the cafeteria.

LOL! :D

Craig, if you read between the lines of Kyle and Carson's blogs, you'll see that there is something in the pipelines, what it is however, they are not revealing as yet.

I believe it will be revealed in due time.

Keep on keeping on and paying it forward, you will be rewarded.

Mary, this is precisely why I wrote the blog - so that people wouldn't be hung up about it, but would take the path of Paying it Forward and helping others.

You have chosen to linger on the fact that people continue to write blogs about it - I for one, would like to see more people just naturally paying it forward because they enjoy helping others.

Great post well said!

Cheers Gina

Thanks Gina!
