Is your website secure?
Are the websites that you visit secure?
Is your website secure?
Do You know how You can tell if it's secure?
Look at the top left corner near the URL, when the site is secure there will be a green padlock.
See the screenshot of my website below!
Also look at the top left corner of your screen, Wealthy Affiliate is secure!
Wait a minute!
Don't Hacker accounts sometimes show up on WA?
The answer is Yes but they are dealt with quickly and accordingly when they try to share malicious links!
You can also know that a link is safe when the URL has https:// at the beginning as opposed to just http:// without the s.
See the difference?
Is your website secure?
Does it have the green padlock and start with https:// like mine does?
Thank You Friends for only sharing secure links to sites free of spam, scams, schemes and viruses!

Richard,
If You have an ! instead of the green padlock then click on the ! my Friend and see why and what to do.
Let me know if this helps Richard,
Tony
I think it will be the next version of Chrome that will start to use the words "not secure" next to sites without SSL certificates.
Thank you Marion,
Do you know when the next version of Chrome is expected to be released my Friend?
Tony
It's not official yet but if it's not this year then it should be January 2018.

So here is what I found, the website hosted by WA is secured. I also have another website outside of WA which is not secured. I have it hosted somewhere else which I have to pay extra for the SSL certificate.
Right now I am looking further into how to go about doing it without having to pay extra. I came across a technical blog that helps generate simple SSL certificate for free. However, there's a bunch of technical stuff involved. I am reading and learning them as much as I can right now. I am curious and it's a great learning opportunity.
If there are interests, please let me know and I'll keep you posted to see if I can successfully create a free SSL certificate or not...
Ha,
Is the site not hosted here at WA a WordPress site my Friend?
Yes, let us/me know what you find out about the SSL certificate Ha as it will be important information for anyone not hosting here at WA to know.
Thank you for getting back with me Ha,
Tony
Yes, I have another website which is a WordPress being hosted outside of WA.
I'll keep you posted on my findings...
I will eventually... That is on my bucket list of to dos.
This is an old website and there's a lot of info I have to transfer over. It'll take some time.
Looks like I may need to move my website to WA sooner than later. My current hosting site does not support third party SSL certificate. I have to purchase through them.
WA is an amazing place Ha,
I've been here for over 2 years and never plan to leave!
Talk with you soon my Friend,
Tony
Totally agree with you there. I am just dreading having to pause on writing articles for my current website and learning courses at WA. I just now got caught up with my lessons after the hurricane. Alas, I am just complaining...
My current website with WA has been getting more hits than my old website. I think it's because of the "http" vs "https".
I may need to focus a solid week or more on moving my website. It must be done... Thank you for the insights with SSL for Google.
So here is the detail info as far as I know of http vs https:
As of January 2017, google has made "http" pages be marked as non-secure and "https" as secured. Google rewards "https" and boost the ranking.
I have a website outside of WA that has "http" and the ranking is much lower and less clicks than my website with "https" at WA.
To be with "https", your website host will need to install SSL certificate for your domain name. There is usually additional fee associated with this.
If you have other websites hosting other than WA and have "http" only, look into changing to "https" or migrate your domain to WA.
Here is a blog website I found that may help you to understand more about ssl certificate and how to generate free SSL certificate: https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/how-to-get-a-free-ssl-certificate-and-why-google-is-forcing-you-to.
Also make sure your hosting site support third party SSL certificate. If they don't like my old hosting provider, just move your domain over to WA and save yourself some head aches.
I am just being lazy and trying to find the easiest way. Looking at the big picture, the easiest way right now for me is to transfer my website over to WA. =)
I hope all that make sense and help answer some questions for others...
Thank you Tony again for sharing this information. It is a great help for me!!!

Hi, Tony. Mine doesn't have http:// or even www. It only has ! with a circle round it. Same in both my dashboard and on the website. I clicked on it as you said below, but it looks like making it secure is not a simple thing. Is there a WA training on what to do?
This should help with the not secure thingy SSL: Activation, No Padlock, Mixed Content and Google Search Console
Thanks Marion for the secure thingy
Richard
Thanks, Marion. All good now.
