Put good fats on the menu every day, exercise, rest and occasionally take a step back to master stress, drink lots of water and tea to detox ... my tips for a body and mind in harmony on every Age.

That omega 3 protects your heart and cardiovascular system (concerning the elasticity of the blood vessels, blood pressure, the formation of plaque, ...) and that it is anti-inflammatory, is generally known. But what not many people know is that it also plays a major role in the construction and proper functioning of the brain. The fatty acids are necessary for the formation of the walls of nerve cells, crucial for the information transfer in the nervous system. Omega 3 makes them smoother and smoother so that the information flow is better, is like a kind of lubricant for the brain and our neurons.

Fatty acids have been recommended for the youngest children at a time when the brain is developing, but today we also know that they can slow down the deterioration of the brain due to age. According to several studies, omega 3 fatty acids prevent or delay diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

How do we get to those precious fatty acids? By regularly putting greasy fish (sardines, herring, tuna, salmon, mackerel, ...) avocado, nuts and eggs with omega 3 on the menu, by flavoring summer salads with cold pressed oils (sunflower, linseed, rapeseed, ... ), sunflower seeds, linseed, hemp seed and chia seeds, by not being sparing with green vegetables, by greasing your bread with margarine enriched with omega 3, and by cooking with olive oil, Original containing 3 times more omega 3.

Omega 6 improves the functioning of the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the resistance and works anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory. But if your take in too much of it, it thwarts its own benefits and that of omega 3. The ideal ratio between omega 6 and omega 3 fluctuates between 1/1 and 1/3, but in our diet the ratio is rather between 10/1 and 30/1.

Cause? The industrialization of our food. Many refined oils are used that are more stable than cold-pressed oils that have a shorter shelf life, but are less rich in omega 3. Intensive cultivation also caused a decrease in the omega 3 content in green vegetables, meat, eggs and fish.

Move, that's good for morale!

Especially after your fiftieth, regular exercise ensures that your muscles stay supple, the oxygen supply to your brain is guaranteed and your mood remains sunny. It is not necessary to over do it but, it is the regularity that counts: 30 minutes of steps a day is already a very good start.
Physical efforts work on the nervous system and bring peace to people who suffer from stress and anxiety. After half an hour the relaxation changes into euphoria thanks to the release of endorphins, those famous happy-hormones that work relaxing and analgesic. If your practice a sport with moderate or high effort, dopamine and serotonin will also release your mood.

A better psychology well-being, less stress, a boost for your brain (memory but also determination), a good self-image thanks to a good physical condition and a healthy weight, ... Arguments enough to get in motion, to take care of your body and to raise your morale jacks. Sports also improves the quality of your sleep, crucial for optimal physical and psychological health. As your recuperate from your efforts, your body gets the chance to relax and let the excess pressure and stress flow away.

But a healthy lifestyle is not complete without drinking a minimum of 1.5 liters of fluid (water and tea) per day, if possible outside meals, to naturally eliminate accumulated toxins in our body. Water also has an impact on your mood, because dehydration is linked to feelings of anger and depression. It also makes your brain function better: it is good for concentration and fights memory loss.

My advice!

WA marketers don't forget your daily physical activity with all your hours behind the screen!

Excellent post. Thanks for sharing.

Aahhhh, the Atkins, Ketogenic and or Caveman Diet.

We talk the same language, Tommy. 17 or more years ago I suffered a mild stroke, I was 235 lbs at 5'-8."

A bowling ball for sure. Wha, me??? How can that be?? I loved sports played a ton of basketball back when. Bu' something made me slow and lazy and fat??

How did this happen? I thought I got it right afterall the "food industry" told me what to eat. Y'know stay away from fat. Eat only "fat-free" foods. They made sure I knew fat makes me fat.

That I logically understood. Stay away from red-meats and eat high-carbohydrate foods such as;

whole grain bread, Y'know the "food-pyramid" we saw at public school cafeterias. A smiling cartoon kid pointing at the pyramid poster pasted on every wall. The kid looked so healthy.

Funny thing as I think about it they too contradicted themselves in that these food snacks they produced even used fat.

Not the kind of fat most understood but

HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN/COCONUT OILS, etc.

These criminals used oils that clog our arteries, yep!
Transfats. Dang, it! Thank you soooo very much.

BTW, Tommy, you do know they use it to keep their food from spoiling don'tchaa.

Yep, we need these foods like we need poison. Thank you food industry, you have our best interest in mind. NOT!

Thanks, Tommy, you struck a nerve with me. Great post!

frank

Hi Frank, I am for about 40 years in the health fitness industry and before that well I started at 7 y/o with sports. But when I started with bodybuilding I learned the real thing about what is important with our nutrition. The food pyramid is set up by the food producing industry and is not 100% correct.
Most important part of staying healthy is keeping balance
