On October 4 I used Googleping.com after Jay's webinar yo ping my website and every since then I have lost considerable traffic to my site like over 200 visits per day this mont

Good information, I will make a note to stay away from that site. I use pingomatic sometimes. I also use virus total to scan website. Also you are linking to a website is that do follow or no follow?

Tomm…thanks for giving us a heads up. Let us know what develops.

I am not using the ping thingy and now I am slowly building my traffic back by adding content to my pages and post.

Tomm is this something you do regularly, add content to posts and pages already completed and has it helped to improve the rankings?

I go back and read then add content of change a few words then click update. But my main content that I add to my website is adding another review or blog about something with a good keyword just yo get people to my site thru different post.

Cheers :)

Tomm, have you found out what was wrong?

No I am just working in getting my traffic back up and staying away from ping sites.

Thanks. :)

Thanks for the warning.

Thanks for sharing I'll keep that in mind.

I haven't seen the LVC, but I've long since been aware that pinging sites to multiple destinations is viewed by many as a potential "spam" signal. I've certainly never done it, I've always allowed WordPress to manage the "pinging" itself. Rich.

Yep me also I have never pinged anything until I watched the webinar about it.

That;s not good. Hope someone comes up with a reason - but I would also pm Jay about it because he might have a quick answer. (And he may not see this)

I noticed it took awhile for that webinar to be posted like two weeks and the part where google ping has been removed. But I will talk to Jay thanks Bev

I am curious would it not be better due to the changes in google search. Instead of writing articles and having to wait for them to get approved and published with just two backlin

Writing posts on your site is a must, as the posts will rank which brings traffic, and it also shows consistent attention to your site. If you want to become ranked consistently at the top of your niche, do a post a day and try to update them at around the same time every day. That being said, lets look at why you would also do articles. First, they will also rank on completely different keywords, thus giving you more page one material, which equals, yes you guessed it, more traffic. The more you have out there pointed back to your website the more traffic you will get, and article traffic that is targeted with good low hanging fruit keywords is priceless for sales. You will also get good quality backlinks to your site from the two links in your article. While many will tell you backlinks do not matter as much as they used to, they still matter, and these article backlinks will do the job for you in helping you rank. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you Shawn that does answer my question

Great overview reply to this classroom subject. You clearly helped me understand the difference and importance of each. Thank you.

I would also love to hear what others have to say on this. Personally I started out writing articles only. Then after reading various comments on WA about the latest Google updates I started to write blogs also. I now do the same amount of writing but roughly 66% I write as blogs and 33% as articles. It is early days but writing blogs seems to have had a much more positive impact on my rankings than articles. I am considering dropping article writing altogether so look forward to reading others comments.

I'm waiting to see what Carson and Kyle has to say also

Great question, Tommy. I write more articles than posts but point them back to my website. I've been of the understanding that a balance is best. Would love to hear what others have to say.

Yes me too

Curious about the answer to this... makes sense.
On the other hand, having your info/articles on different venues shows that you're diverse and proves you as a legit person, not just someone focused on his own website and money making...
By having to get approved to publish an article, there's some sort of 'checking you out' being done and google knows that... (I think :)

Has that makes sense
