Dear fans and readers,

Do you love to pay taxes? If governments need money, no way is too short to come up with new ideas to tax the people. In todays topic we talk about that.

Taxing Social Media! A New Tax Sees Daylight!

Say what? Yes you read it right! Uganda has created the first Social Media Tax to tax it's citizens for the use of any social media platform.

No matter which platform they visit, per platform per day the citizens have to pay 0.05$!

Will other countries follow? Do you think it is justified and would you accept such a tax?

The reason according to Uganda's government: it is all In a bid to stop “opinions, prejudices and insults"

What'll they think of next to tax??

In china they could make mass money to charge the air, seen it is so poluted there, they sell fresh air in bottles btw lol :0)

rainwater is taxed in some countries...

Those money hungry taxmen!

They know how affiliate marketing works ;0) lol

Unfortunately!

Given most people on the internet look to find a way around paying (movies, streaming and YouTube) I think the government would have a hard time collecting here in Canada.

If it is only 0.01$ per day per platform, no one will say a thing as it is so low that you won't notice it, now the mass makes the money, you can always increase the rate later, look the post office does the same, every year or so they increase, does someone protest? No....

The post office is a good example. With the increase of Whatsapp, IMO and messenger, how many people still post letters or even pay bills through the post? The internet has thrown communications wide open and with the introduction of the smart home assistants you, it would be easier to tax the internet than the millions on line.

That's crazy. Sounds like they're trying quash free speech.

It is a quick way of making money fast, and yes it looks like that.

Oh well we would be snookered then would we not. At least it's per day and not per hour lol.

How greedy do governments need to get these days.

Hope you are having fun this afternoon. I am waiting on this post you promised last night, is it done yet. xxx

Start a government, high profitable niche for you. :P xx

got some stuff on my plate to do first.... will come stay and wait, true fans never sleep... :P xx

You are very welcome friend, start a government for what lol?

OK, I will wait here patiently for you. xxx

To govern chocolates off course... :P xx

Good idea Stefan. Xx

Or clown juice for that matter of speaking, xx

that's crazy! sorry to here that, hope for the best for you and ours eh

For me? You are funny... :0)

Well if they start that in Europe, people probably will jump on the barricades and revolt to protect the internet of things. lol :0)

The people of Uganda won't have it good, many will get disconnected from the social platforms like this, that can even backfire on the countries economical development over a longer period of time, time will tell.

Thanks lol I would be right with ya if they started that in Canada lol as far as economics I agree. I think it will hurt them more than anything.

I just looked it up, Uganda has about 17 million internet users, make your count how much taxes that are... :O

my god, 6.8m in tax if they all end up pay at 40% tax rate.

Yup, very smart to make good money, get rich quick...

woo O.O in American, we have a similar issue, but not taxing like that -.- It's common for the government since they can tax people almost everything -.- Like my old home country....the government takes all tax of people and use for personal purposes...Well, I can say this as I stayed in Seattle since we have more freedom of speech, but it involves to politic... Still need be careful better than sorry later -.-

Thank you Stefan for inform :)

Hi Thong,

Ever considered to choose that as a niche? Sounds like a good money making niche lol :0)

..... I don't know -.- Is every niche potential niche right? :)

If you an audience you have a niche Thong :0)

Thank you Stefan. Where do you find this wacky stuff. This is too crazy to be real, well maybe not.

Have a fun day!

Hi James,

Hehehe I got my sources to find exceptional articles to write about. :0) and it is real, I can assure you.

Have a fun day too my dear friend.

What country is doing this non-sense?

Uganda, and it is for real. Unthinkable, but it happened.

Oman that's crazy. I really hope that doesn't happen anywhere else. I don't think that right though, this world is full of money hungry, control freaks. But I'm sure people will find loopholes

Yup it is, and this new law started on the 1st of July 2018. It will hurt the way and freedom in the internet. Those who can pay it will use the internet as usual, all other won't be able to afford that, does that mean poor people are the ones who give these kind of comments?

Cant see it happening in any democratic country. Maybe other dictatorships may see this as an opportunity?
Watch this space

Well you never know, if Uganda makes huge tax incomes with that, you can be sure other countries may think of that in the time of need of more revenues to pay all the projects the government has. Maybe in a different form.

Did you know there was a talk in the EU about the internet tax? But that one got declined...

So you never know what is next. If the people of Uganda accept the tax, the door is open to anyone else.
