Go Google Kill That View Image Button!

Dear Readers,

While many of you have spent time writing & reading many Valentine Greeting Messages, you might have missed the important announcement from Google introducing a new change to it's image search.

Google has made a deal with Getty Images, a big stockholder company of images to go on a cooperation between the two giants. Google will improve the search navigation and Getty Images will drop it's complaint at the European Commission for the problem that Google makes it to easy for people to save pictures from Google's search engine and use them for themselves.

Whenever you are searching for pictures on Google Search it offers many search results from Getty Images and others. Now many of those pictures are copyrighted, but there are also many Royalty free images. But that was was often not clear, while searching for images. On top of your search results Google added a search Button Bar for Getty Images to make it easier for you to find Images.

Now if you are using Getty Images is another question. There are many image stockholder companies out there offering high quality pictures against a fee and you receive a so called commercial license that grands you the right of using it for your projects, some licenses include alteration of those photos.

Due to the many issues of stealing of copyrighted photos from Getty Images and others, this new partnership is being unfolded to increase user navigation experience and increase the visibility of copyrighted material to avoid downloads and re-use by violators.

Now you may ask what will you get out of all of this? Probably much less as what you would expect. Google has a fantastic idea how it thinks to improve customer oriented Image navigation and support the photo artists in adding copyright notices to this search.

How does this look like? Well Google is going to remove the "View Image" Button from it's view panel, so you cannot zoom in anymore to get a better view of that picture. If this is an improvement to the user experience, I doubt that. Especially on mobile devices this can be a huge disadvantage.

Furthermore there will be a copyright notice on the bottom of the image search, so you can see right away if this image is copyrighted.

Dear readers, what do you think, is this an improvement for the user experience or will it backfire on Google?

Leave your answers below.

I never get my images from Google, it's too risky

Exactly, thank you for your valued input Loes.

You're welcome Tom;)

Hi Loes, hmm did you found a twin of me called Tom? :)

Stefan

Well, I am not Patsy either, so when you call me Patsy, I call you Tom;)

Ooops didn't see that, sorry Loes lol ;-)

I need more coffee..... I am up since 02:30 can't sleep at night... :O

Relaxzzzzz :))

Thank you for your kind thoughts, you are the best Loes! :))

I may be incorrect in this but I mainly pull images straight from the internet. In many cases if they don't want them used they code so it cant be copied to be pasted!

If you make a screenshot (press prt scr on your keyboard) and you go into your paint program, select past into new picture, you have it too Mike.

Now if this is all correct is a big risk, if you just got a picture which is from a big company and they find their picture back wherever you posted it online, you might risk a lawsuit case. In Europe 6000 Euro for stealing and using a picture is the minimum and common.

So I would watch out for it. That is why I use commercial licensed photos, yes it costs, but avoids these probably problems in the future.

Even with the so called "free" images you need to read what is allowed and what not. It is the wild west out there Mike.

Hope this helps.

A little of both. A bit better and bit more cumbersome.

Hi Phoeby, do you often search for images through Google?
