The Joy of Writing

So... I'm surprised. I did not expect to like this 'creating a website' thing as much as I am. Why? I think much of it is because I get to write. And I... like... writing.

Growing up, as far back as I can remember, even in kindergarten, I loved reading and writing. Except for the occasional technical manual written in Japanese and then translated three times before it finally reaches me, I can enjoy most any book or text! And creating something from nothing is a habit of mine I began long ago, at 13, when I started writing my first songs.

But there's another reason why I'm relishing the time spent behind my keyboard - I don't actually have to create from nothing. The Keyword searches are telling me what to write about! I love it that I don't have to sit around and wonder, "Well....what in the world am I going to drone on about today....?!" Because of Keyword searches, I can see exactly what people are dying to know out there based on their sheer number of Googles, and then give them what they asked for. Easy!

I had actually thought many times of starting a blog, or vlog, online, but I would always end my reveries with, "Yea, but....what can I say that hasn't already been said dozens (if not millions!) of times before? Who's gonna want to hear it??" Well, now when I mine Keywords, I know each time I start a written article that, indeed, there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of people that want to hear exactly the answers I'm going to write about. Dude - that's SWEEEEEET!! And so freeing.

If you don't like writing, I totally get it. My wife is that way. I'm that way about math; never could grasp it easily and always ended up spending way more time than others trying to understand the day's homework.

Still, I appreciate math, and actually like and respect it in a more philosophical way. It helps define the miraculous universe that we live in, and shows the building blocks of God, to me at least.

I do find that if I study math slowly, and seek to understand each element before moving on to the next mathematical concept, I do better and progress quicker.

I believe you can do the same in writing. Just slowly try. Find your way by doing. You even will have a style that no one else does. Know your subject. Teach as tho' none of us out here know anything about what you're talking about... and always use spell- and grammar-check!!

As for making a living at it.... well, according to many of you on this site who are doing it, it's a goal worth pursuing and, easily achievable with effort and perseverance. Count me in. I'm now twenty blogs in after three weeks so... time to go write another one!

Here's to great success in your and my efforts.

Hi TJ, great post and I think you have echoed the sentiments of many here at WA. It is indeed a journey for me it was a shaky start but writing has become something that I look forward to doing, probably not as much as I should be, but sticking to it the momentum builds. thank you for sharing your insights and love for writing very motivating.

Thanks, Alex! Appreciate hearing that. The teacher in me always seeks to motivate and inspire. Encouraging to hear when it happens!
