They Left Their Life's Blood
They Left Their Life's Blood
Our country is perpetually in war,
Wars created by the idiots
Who control our destiny,
Wars that sap the strength of nations.
Patriotism can be the source of war.
So can greed and revenge.
The result is always the same,
People are killed, maimed and displaced.
Are men fighting for their country?
That's what the politicians say.
Fighting men say they are fighting for their
Buddies and their survival.
But men and women do fight
For their country
Whether they like it
Or not.
It is popular now
To honor our veterans.
That was popular during World War II
But was lost for Korea and Vietnam.
The veteran organizations
Did all they could
To honor war veterans.
Now, like anything else of value,
It is "good business."
Charities scream at us everyday
To help our veterans.
The government sent these men
To war to get maimed.
So, who should be taking care of them?
War is a disgrace.
In regard to the care of veterans,
Our government is a disgrace.
O.K.
War may be glorius to some.
I have faced the realities.
Will it ever end?

You do not want to hear want I would say about the treatment of our veterans by our government and the American public back then. However, I will say it has gotten better. :)
What's interesting about it is that the people who instigate these wars, aren't the ones out on the battle field. It really shows how evil some people can be, simply to have their own way at the expense of others and that they don't really care.
Our men, women, sons and daughters join the military for many different reasons. I pray every day that it will all end but in my heart, I know it won't. War is not glorious but I honor those that choose to go and back in the day it really wasn't a choice was it? I remember those days when the draft was in place. Greed, revenge and politics will overtake us all.
Most of the men in my outfit in Korea were drafted. They hated being there and wanted no rank. But they were good soldiers.
Neither my dad or uncle spoke about the war much. But they kept their war buddies until they died.

My grandfather only spoke of wwII after my dad came back from Vietnam to help him ( i think), My dad has only recently started talking about Vietnam, and recently started to go to reunions with some of his buddies. My brother who served two tours in Iraq has not spoken much about it. Things have got better, but they still have a long way to go in terms of how we treat our veterans. Thank you for your service John and for your post.
Thanks for that and you are welcome! J
