Helping Others

I spent the first hour and 15 minutes this morning helping others. Did I waste my time?

First I helped a new writer, whose native tongue does not seem to be English with her writing. She is trying to earn money on fiverr.com but her writing is sub par. I told her to:

1. Start from an outline and follow it. Make sure the outline contains all important points and areas that must be covered.

2. Use short paragraphs of one or two sentences. Vary the length of your sentences.

3. Right from your own point of view and avoid copying PLR articles and other such sources.

4. Use a keyword tool and a spellchecker. Some might consider a grammar checker but these things are often more confusing than they are worth.

5. Keep things up front and personal.

6. Edit your work. Have a family member or friend read it before you publish it and don't publish it the same day you write it. Let it stew!

Well, that is not what I told her, exactly. But if I can develop her as a writer, I might be able to use her again in the future. I had some of the things I wanted her to do but she is not ready for that now. But I have a new friend rather than a disappointed enemy.

That I filled out Loes survey. She has 25 questions she wants answered.

Following this I replied to WP member who invited to PM me with his question. I told him where to find a free autoresponder that works: http://www.listwire.com/ I also answered a couple of other questions about a list and why he should have one.

So did this keep me from writing the blogs I'm working on? Of course it did. However, I wasn't put on this earth to write blogs, I was put on this earth to help others.

You know the saying:

11 Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.

Ecclesiastes 11 English Standard Version (ESV)

Everyone needs help in this world. When we refuse to give it, we hurt ourselves. I know many Internet marketers who do not want to take the time to help others because it interferes with their work, they may set up some system to help others such as a FAQ page.

The Poor Widow

According to the Gospel of Luke 18:1-8, a judge (who is both atheistic and lacking compassion) is repeatedly approached by a poor widow, seeking justice. Initially rejecting her demands, he eventually honors her request so he will not be worn out by her persistence.

This is the way of some of us.

The important thing is that we give help to others that need it. We learn from this and we make new friends and acquaintances.

That is something I can take with me wherever I go—or end up. LOL

There I go wasting more time, mine and yours, by writing this post.

John

It's a great post and I love the pics!

I sometimes find the greatest inspiration comes when you are distracted and helping others so it's never a waste of time in that sense, and it certainly beats staring at empty screen looking for ideas which could have the alternative for this morning.

lol Thanks!

Hi John,
You didn't waste my time at all - you enriched it.
Thank you,
Lesley

I'm glad!

You are wonderful, there are joy and sense of satisfaction in helping others. Keep it up, God bless you.

I thank you, Peter!

You said it so well. Agree with you completely. Reading your post was time well spent. =)

Thank you, Susan.

Thank you for sharing! It is always a wonderful feeling helping others, and great to meet new friends along the way :-)

And I always learn something too.

Thank you for writing this post. I definitely don't feel I have wasted my time reading it.

I love your sentence 'However, I wasn't put on this earth to write blogs, I was put on this earth to help others.'

Isabella

Thank you, Isabella. I had an aunt Isabelle and I have a granddaughter names Isabella. Maybe Isabelle. lol J

Hi John, excellent post, fill with done very good advice. Which if taken on board will make the journey very pleasant indeed.

Thanks!

Nice philosophy TJ .... for all to consider and embrace. I got so much pleasure from my teaching days, and some lifelong friends.

I taught engineering at Iowa State for 8 years but then I needed to make a living so I could educate my kids so I went back into industry. lol Sometimes I wish I had stayed. lol

Hi TJ, you're a blessing. Good advice for all aspiring writers, new or old. I love the bird-feeder pic. I can speed too much time watching them in the yard which I could use here. But we do need a break at times :) All the best! ~Gaylon

I have four (4) feeders and way too many pairs of binoculars, cameras, telescopes and such. lol

Great advice. Irv.

Thank you, Irv!
