Writing Bricolage-Style

When people ask me what my "medium" as an artist is, I tell them I do "bricolage." That's a fancy way of saying that I use whatever I have and whatever is available to me, throw the stuff all together into a pile, and then pick out the bits that work together and figure out how to make the whole thing sort of hang together without falling down into some other mess.

It's a heck of a lot of fun and sometimes people get some good laughs out of what I do.

Probably the other name for that way of playing is "junk art." Often it's part little-kid-art skills, part sculpture, part head-games, and part Trickster jokery. It works pretty good sometimes.

With this blogging thing I haven't been able to do a lot of my art lately, but it occurs to me that the bricolage mindset has sort of infused and infiltrated my writing thing.

In my writing, I notice, I've been grabbing all kinds of disparate ideas, mixing metaphors hither and yon while plopping down non sequiturs unabashedly and mashing them up all together.

I'm never quite sure where the durned post is going to go. There is no set formula or template or whatever. And, very often, I've been able to get the things to hang together cogently enough so that they actually do make sense.

I spend a lot of time just reorganizing my sh*t after the chaos of Making is done. And, somehow, I always end up with a couple or three other new out-there ideas that were not so visible before. Hmmm....

However, doing the writing this way does keep me interested in this thing and keeps me coming back in spite of all the other distractions and such in my life.

It is not the best way to be productive and I'm still not doing the one post a week thing. (Sigh!)

Hope you're having fun too....

Hi
It is okay , it does take a bit of time to do consistent posting of articles to your website.

Practice eventually become perfect as you get better at it as you go along.

It is okay to feel frustrated, this is new and it is unknown.
Every day as you do, you will achieve your goals as you get better every day

Simone, I do thank you for the encouraging words.

I'm actually not frustrated with the progress of my blogging efforts. It's all in the name of gaining mastery, after all.

Because I tend to do lots of stuff, I am (and probably will always be) something of a slowpoke. I'm not racing. I'm savoring the journey, me (as Jessiefido says).

Hope you are too....

If your interest remains, you keep coming back and are making gradual progress daily, then you will get there in the end my friend!

Thanks for the encouraging words, Jessiefido.

Anytime Netta, take care and savour the journey to success my friend.

Hey! Who says it’s not the best way to be productive? What works for you may not work for me but who cares? You do your own thing that makes sense to you!

Thanks for the encouraging words, Feochadan. I appreciate it.
