Wo! LARGE niche here. How am I going to stand out?

Last month, I proudly reported that I think I've sussed out my audience. (Go, me!)

I figured it would also be a good thing to pay some mind to who-all is out there talking at the same group of people. (My niche and my jones is the self-improvement thing.)

Wo! Talk about a crowded field! It's worse than the Swap Meet used to be. Sheesh!

So, then, of course, I had to ponder what I am offering that's different from all these other extraordinary peeps who are throwing out their two cents just like me.

Again, this whole thing feels a lot like the Swap Meet. When you are a vendor at a large, well-organized swap meet, crafts fair, festival or whatever, it is likely that even though the organizers will probably group booths that offer similar things together, your little booth space is going to get lost in the rows upon rows of other booths.

The deal is, though, a good part of the people wandering around in that area looking at the stuff on offer are likely to be for-real afficionados who WANT to find something that they can carry off in triumph and take home and brag on.

My job, as a vendor, is to be in the place where people who are looking for my sort of thing tend to show up, to put together an eye-catching display so they'll come to my booth specifically and then to wow them with what I've got once they get there.

That's Marketing 101, right?

Okay. What makes me different than other bloggers writing about the same thing?

After a lot of head-scratching I figured out that the only thing that's different is that I am me. Nobody else can be me 'cause I already have dibs on being that.

I am female.

I'm a mother and a grandmother.

I used to be a wife and a widow, and now I'm a lover.

I am a friend with a lot of quirks that the folks around me seem inclined to put up with.

I have spent a lifetime being fascinated by the different ways human beings walk and all the various ways they live their human being lives.

I honor the way I was raised, seeing the good in it as well as its weaknesses.

I honor the place where I live and feel I've been exceptionally blessed in this life.

I am a poet and a story-teller and I believe in the power of story and the power of words. I've worked on that a bunch.

I am an artist and I play around with bricolage and assorted other inanities just for the heck of it.

I'm a residential property manager and I have spent years using that discipline to test out assorted theories of life (with decidedly mixed results sometimes, but I do keep showing up for more lessons).

I firmly believe in connection, but that is balanced by my equally firm belief in the need for self-definition and autonomy as well.

I believe that every human being is a gift to Life. Sometimes the gifts get trampled, but the cool part about humans is that we do have agency and a bunch of free will and very often we can develop and use these things much more effectively if we put our minds to it.

I like Life. (I hope that shows.)

I like people and that's who I write this blog for (not robots).

So, for what it's worth, that's what I've got. I put my thought-constructs together in my blog and I try to be honest and balanced and all that stuff. Maybe some people will enjoy the results of my own walk. Maybe they'll start doing experiments too.

Hmmm.... I figured out that, actually, it doesn't really matter what the people around me selling their own wares are doing. My stuff is an exclusive. You either want it or not. Whatever.

As long as I keep doing mine and I keep putting it out there, I am going to stand out. Got no worries about that one!

Hee!

Hope your month's been fruitful too. Thanks for your attention....

And. .speaking of swap meets, no matter how organized, how you attract your visitors will determine how well you do, even when the weekends crowd is finicky.
In the short time my friend and I set up shop, about 2 months later, she had people coming to her space specifically to pick up one of the items they had heard she sold...from word of mouth guess you can call word of mouth the precursor to email communication, eh?...grin.

Ever do math on school? Remember the lowest common denominator - (LCD)?

Find the lowest co.mon denom within the self help topic and find one that hits your heart with such ferocity that it takes your breath away. And then keep breathing....THAT will be your passion, see if there are a few things that bring you joy, then see which one is being searched often by folks looking for solutions in that niche.

THAT is beautiful, Rudy! Thank you!

You're welcome!

Self-development is NOT a niche!

It is a huge, broad area.

You still need to choose a niche which is a tiny fraction in terms of topics covered. In terms of your swap meet analogy, you need to select a small part of a row, that is, in a well-organized swap meet.

Rosana, you're right. That's the next project on my list.

Just so you know: This is a back-to-basics walkthrough for me. I am needing to remind myself of what I am doing with the website I am focusing on, LIFE-BUILT POEMS: Living Out Loud.

In all the press of more and more information this incredible WA platform offers, sometimes I can get confused about what I am trying to do here.

Sometimes the HOW overwhelms the WHY. For me, it's the WHY that is the most important.

There are so many minds in this WA thing here, so many good ideas and ways of walking (some quite alien to me), and I have to clear the decks so that I can figure out what I myself am hoping to accomplish.

This rather simplistic mind-game I just went through helps me focus on my goal of incorporating all of the various facets that I aim to integrate into my posts on my website. (Not all at once for each piece, of course, but enough so that the whole thing hangs together well.)

I need to remember what the elements of my stance are so that I know how to talk. (Does that make sense?)

The real is that I am constructing a book and I need the posts to march right since they are going to be the building blocks for that one book or two or ten.

It's all process.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I do appreciate it.

Self-improcement is something that many people search for at some point in their lives.

With more than half of the country (US) population being over 50, you might find yourself a niche by speaking to those in that age group.
There are plenty of ways to reach them, from the OMG I'm 50, now what, to the old pros who are looking for something new to revamp, so things stay fresh, exciting enough to stay on task.

There are a lot of good avenues to consider when trying to reach people, from self-help to spiritual discovery (not religious-based), exercise, finding your food, tricks on how to be more aware of your surroundings. Just a few things to share with you to hopefully spark some interest.

Self development takes courage to start, motivation and discipline to continue. I have some great sources you may or may not be aware of, that I will share with you if you're interested.
