Stuck in the wastelands.but getting on through it

It's that time of year again.

In my day-job, I am a residential property manager. I take care of about 40 houses, cottages and attached dwellings and I answer to 32 or so owners at any given time. Mostly, I make sure the homes are occupied and that they are fit to live in.

Because of my authority issues, this is basically a one-person operation (with a lot of help from friendly neighborhood repair people, cleaners and other service folks). My broker lets me run. (YAY!)

At this time of the year, I have to get out year-end reports to all of the owners of the properties I manage. Basically these are state-of-the-property reports as well as a review and recap of what went on during the past year.

The owners get their 1099s and stuff their accountants or bookkeepers can use to make their reports as well. (This is the URK! part. Math and me are not friends.)

Year-End Hell Month (which absolutely HAS to be done by the end of January because of those durned 1099s) also gives me a natural space to review how I've been walking for the past year and I value that most about it.

It does mean I don't get much time to work on what I'm calling my "Millenium Falcon" -- this online-marketing thing I'm doing.

What I've kind of figured out is that what I'm doing here as I work on creating my blog posts and sharing them is I am creating a face and a presence on the web with which others will interact.

I realized that blogs do not "make" money. They are just an entity that you create out of air. They're kind of like your most-presentable or most-lovable you that you haul out to face a pile of strangers.

They're like the party-girl you or the cool-dude you. That's all.

They don't make money. What you do with the blog once you've got it up and running is the same thing party-girl does -- you use it to get attention and then you use it to leverage that attention to push whatever you're pushing.

What makes money is making yourself indispensible to people who are in need of a solution.

I do that as a property manager. I am good at it. I have clients who have been with me for almost two decades because I can do this well. (Yeah, yeah...I'm old.)

So, the deal is...I have also been working on who I am wanting to help and what problems I am able to help them resolve.

Without having a bunch of people with problems, I have no way to make money being awesome at resolving problems. At least, that's what I figure.

So....that right there is my target audience: people with the same kinds of problems that I've had experience working on. (Also, they have to be people who are willing to open their wallets to buy a possible solution to their problem.)

My niche is the lifestyle thing. The tag I'm putting on it is "Minding Meaning and Mana." My ideal thing would be helping people play mind-games with themselves, allowing them to find ways to make their lives more meaningful for themselves.

I think I'm getting there with the LIFE-BUILT POEMS: Living Out Loud website. At least, I am liking what I am doing with it and I've picked up a bunch of skillful means and tools here at WA as I work on that.

Now I've got to work on the back-end, the business (i.e., the making-money) part.

For me, this is all necessarily slow.

Too much other stuff going on.

And that's all I know so far.

Hope your explorations are going well....

Your idea is an interesting one. I hope it works for you. Seems like you are exploring something with which you have a great deal of experience.

I read Donnie's post, and he has a point. Is the title you gave us your domain name, your website name, or the name of an explanatory post? Did you run it through Jaaxy, to see if it works as a keyword?

Keep moving forward and be sure to follow the training. You can do a lot with that website.

Thanks for your interest and your comment, Fran.

LIFE-BUILT POEMS is both my website name and my domain name.

To answer your question, I didn't run it through Jaaxy, mostly because it is a brand name I've developed playing poet with the Makawao group of "Live Poets" for a number of years and is sort of an identifying "thing" of mine.

My poems, such as they are, arise out of and address the lessons I am learning from my life-experiences. The posts are sort of a broader expansion of the poetry.

(I chose the name mostly so my already-friends could come looking for me and see what I have been up to, to tell the truth.)

The surprise has been seeing how doing this blog and setting my intent on turning it into a money-magnet is helping me to suss out a way to help other people look at their own life-walks and make practical, small-kine changes that might help make their journeys smoother.

I'm trying to figure out how to use this blog to present new alternatives and possibilities for a variety of different mindsets that I've discovered in my assorted explorations to a wider audience.

The making-money part is just regular. I can only do things that will eventually support themselves (and me as well).

Otherwise, I'm gonna have to go be part of the regular minion-hordes. (Horrors!)

I know. I'm doing this bass-ackward, but my mind does seem to run like that.

Thanks for asking, Fran. I do appreciate it.
