There's a bit of dissatisfaction with the new Comment Site platform. Apparently some comments offered have not been satisfactory, for one reason or another. Mostly the gripes center around how the expectations of the ones asking for comments for their work are not being met.

I don't know.

Maybe it's 'cause I'm a poet and am used to people not "getting" what I am doing. Hell, I confuse my own self!

I do understand that pertinent and insightful comments are supposed to make the 'bots love you better and lead to greater visibility and so on.

I guess the comments are supposed to provide a springboard so you can be your own brand of proselytizer/evangelist or whatever and pave the way to better earnings.

I suppose it would be nice if they were all grammatically correct, on-topic and just easy-peasy stick-it-in-there perfect.

Ummm...isn't that a heck of a lot to ask for a 50-cent gig?

Just sayin'.....

My own thought on the subject is that, for whatever reason, folks who are moved to respond to posts with comments do so for many reasons. If a post makes them think, I like it. If it moves their heart, I like it. If they happen to come up with an interesting question, I really like it.

If they're doing it for the pittances they can earn, well....I don't know what their circumstances are and I do feel sorry that they need to do it that way.

Comments take a bit of time and effort to construct (even the not-so-good ones) and they take time away from doing other things that are likely to be more effective and more $$$-generative. The ROI for penny bets is mostly not much.

I do know that the comments I get serve my needs well. They show that there are people out there who actually took the time to interact with me.

When I perform my poetry at the Live Poets gatherings, I always make a point to thank the audience for being there, for giving all us poets a chance to say our say.

Without an audience, us poets would just be talking to ourselves. What fun is that?

Comments are the audience engaging with the author, which is why Google rates them important. I have received a comment or two that had nothing to do with the post the comments were placed on. However, I didn't get upset. The commenter might have been having a bad day or distracted or didn't understand what the post was about.
Never Fear, I am here. I fix the comment so it pertains to the post in question. Sometimes the comment could be phrased better or maybe ask a question. I respect the commenter for reading my post and commenting. I don't get ugly with them. I help them to help me.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Thank you, Ken. I agree. Comments are the audience engaging with the author. To me, they are a signal that the gift I fashioned was received.

As a writer and poet, I do believe that one thing is the most valuable treasure.

Great post and you could not have said it any better then what you did. I agree with you the audience is a very important part of our business and we are doing this to give them the information that they are looking for.

This is a job is to help others with information that they need so we have to impress our audience and give them what they want.
